Please visit Andhra Pradesh for a week and you will see what people are doing.
By the way, some info for you:
Andhra Pradesh may become a Christian majority state if the current spree of mass conversion continues.
One of the most powerful men behind the conversions in Andhra Pradesh is the missionary, Mr. D. Ron Watts, a Canadian, who heads the Southern Asia Division of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Mr. Ron Watts is famous for his ‘cluster bombing churches’ with his $10 church programmes. Dorothy Watts, an American, and wife of Ron Watts manages the US finances for the mass conversion programme in India, and Andhra Pradesh in particular. They both have a well-organized network in India, which has the support of the local politiciansas well as his cohorts. It seems that their work became much easier due to official help rendered by Y Samuel Rajasekhara Reddy’s Government. Conversion activity suddenly increased as soon as Congress Government under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi assumed power at Federal Government. .
Here's the latest report where Mr. D. Ron Watts accepts that 600,000 people have been converted ever since he assumed charge as president:
http://www.adventistreview.org/2004-1533/news.html
"In 1998 the Southern Asia Division had a reported 225,000 members. Today, Ron Watts, president of the Southern Asia Division, estimates that the numbers reach 825,000."
In the third article of this bulletin, one will find a photo and report on the 1,119 Conversions in Tanuku village conducted by foreigners under the leadership of Mrs. Dorothy Watts:
http://www.adventistreview.org/2002-1511/news.html
The following report and picture by Mrs. Dorothy Watts will help confirm the truth that foreigners are involved in conversion which is against their visa status.
http://www.adventistreview.org/2001-1515/story1.html
The following report shows the photo of mass conversion under the leadership of D. Ron Watts in Andhra Pradesh. Though India gained Independence in 1947 many haven’t forgotten their obsession for white people (also called ‘Gora Sahib’). It also shows how foreign missionaries, who come on tourist visas/business visas are glorified on pandals:
http://www.global-mission.org/htdocs/co ... ndia4.html
Here is another report and photos of 1,100 people are
getting converted by foreign lady missionaries in Andhra Pradesh:

Photos of village people in Andhra Pradesh, being brought in for conversion in a tractor, and foreign missionaries:
http://www.adventistreview.org/2000-1542/story2.html
Look at the Photos in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. This is how the foreigners bribe poor pastors with motorbikes for catching people for conversions. Naturally, the pastors tempted to convert :

Please read this report by a foreign missionary couple of their successes in Andhra Pradesh:

Photos of mass conversion and a report by a foreign missionary lady in Andhra Pradesh:

A few weeks ago, D. Ron Watts told a meeting in America that Maranatha international was very helpful to his activities. Here is the link: http://news.adventist.org/data/2004/09/ ... ex.html.en
This article under the sub-title 'Southern Asia Division' reports that 15,632 people had been converted during the 2nd quarter of 2003.

Who says Maoists are atheists?
Sonia Gandhi’s Christian lobby and Nepali Maoists have become hotbeds of Christian activities, Sandhya Jain in the Daily Pioneer newspaper rightly said: "While second-in-command Baburam Bhattarai and his family are openly Christian, Prachanda does not proclaim his religious affiliations but his wife's entire family is Christian. His guru, Chandra Pradesh Gajurel, was a Christian preacher. Sources estimate that the 42,000-strong Maoist army would be 30 per cent Christian, but the cadre are kept in the dark that the top leadership is predominantly Christian." The question is, how did Nepal's news media miss this undoutedly a big story?

Then it changed to Rayala Seema (faction villians)
Now it is Telangana turn, I guess (haven't seen any telugu movies recently)
That sadi, didn't we ask for equal development in all regions

Don't need to feel inferior anymore
Man needs his CD. Lets create a sate for it.On my visits to Hyderabad, my hometown, I often find myself looking for a CD or DVD of an old, forgotten Telugu movie
called Maa Bhoomi. Though I come across a lot of old stuff going back to the '50s and '60s, I have never been lucky
enough to lay my hands on this relatively recent 1979 movie.
The sudden announcement of the process of forming Telangana state has, however, raised hopes in me that my search for Maa Bhoomi might end soon. In more than one sense, given that Maa Bhoomi means "Our Land" and I am a native of the Telangana region.
Since a major component of the campaign for Telangana statehood was to give our distinct culture the space that is due to it, I am optimistic that Maa Bhoomi, the first and probably the only ever feature film to be made completely in our dialect, will be back in circulation. Whatever little Telangana heritage is available in celluloid form would anyway be precious to us and should now be in greater demand than ever before.
Much of the psychological gains I made from Maa Bhoomi, however, came unstuck a year later when T Anjaiah, a quintessential Telangana speaker, became chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1980 and triggered a whole lot of jokes about our dialect. There was a veritable industry of "Anjaiah jokes" - much in the manner in which a decade later the peculiar dialogue delivery of a yesteryears Hindi film villain from Hyderabad sparked off "Ajit jokes" across the country.
Making jokes on a CM! We need our own state
This crosses all the limits. They definitely deserve a state.Telugu cinema reflected this bias most blatantly as its heroes and heroines invariably and unmistakably spoke the coastal dialect. If the Telangana dialect made it to those films at all, it was heard from the mouths of villains or comedians.

Re: Redrawing State Boundaries
One interesting aspect is that the Administration, Law-and-Order systems are still under the firm control of Andhra Pradesh Govt. That shows the game is not over for a decisive govt. action towards united Andhra Pradesh. One can see it in Police actions against OU/KU students, their operation LR (Lagadapati Rajagopal) yesterday.
INC leadership is saying that the declaration of Telangana is a GOI decision. Given that various UPA partners are against such a decision, one should assume that it is MMS/PM-da/PC decision. Knowing the capabilities of MMS, I wouldn’t give him credit for this decision. Given PM-da’s performance for the past 6 years on this very issue and UPA bringing him to do damage control, he too cannot be part of the initial decision. It leaves our great PC and his lahori-logic of breakup of law-and-order during KCR fasting. The million $$$ question is, is PC working on his own or being the mukhada for someone else?
Latest news is that Lagadapati escaped (willing or another police action) from the hospital.

Re: States News and Discussions
Swaminathan Iyer is a great hand at spinning the data to the point he wants to prove and he sometimes is woefully wrong. We never have shortage of story-spinners. The new fashion for the story tellers is taking some spinnable data and tell a story as though he is the greatest statistician.Airavat wrote:Economic case for small states
Is there an economic case for carving smaller states out of large ones? Some analysts say small states won’t be economically viable. Others believe small states will fare better, since ordinary people will have better access to power elites. Consider the record of three states carved out of larger ones in 2000 — Jharkhand , Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.
Amazingly, all three new states have grown fabulously fast. Uttarakhand has averaged 9.31% growth annually, Jharkhand 8.45%, and Chattisgarh 7.35%. Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh were the most backward parts of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, which in turn were among the most backward states of India. Yet, after becoming separate states, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have emerged as industrial dynamos. When they were part of larger states, their mineral revenues were diverted to state capitals. This diversion
ended after they became separate states.
Looking at the share of income that originates in the manufacturing sector, these two states have shown higher levels than Maharashtra , Haryana and Tamil Nadu.... Raipur in Chhattisgarh has now entered the top 10 districts of India in manufacturing, with two industrial estates at Urla and Siltara.
Jharkhand is a state that is the revenue earner for Bihar before split. Almost most of the big industires and mines are in Jharkhand. Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, Ranch are few to name. Bihar became revenue nude after the split. Jharkand may be the smallest state with multiple huge steel cities and also massive mines. In case of Jharkhand, it should have grown even more under the current economic model and instead it is suffering from huge Maoist menace and also political instability. In fact when this state split was first proposed, Laloo yadav said "on my death body". To save his chair after he lost the election in combined Bihar, he said okay. After the split he said you are taking away the Lakshmi of Bihar. It is truely a Lakshmi. Jharkand's potential if explored properly, it should cross all rich states of India and may be competing with Gujarat. But the state looks so bad in terms of law and order and thugs-as-politicians.
In case of Uttarakhand also, it is the same story. It is rich region of the poor UP and obviously it will do better as a state.
It is only that one started analyzing the data of these new states and no Swaminathan Iyer never bothered to analyze the data before the split.
In case of Chattisgarh, both Chattisgargh and MP are doing pretty fine and they would have done the same irrespective of the split. Chattisgargh did not get any special except for shortage of police forces. Maoists rule the roost in couple of districts. May be there is a case that it would have done better had there been no split as the combined state could have raised huge resources in combat the menace.
In summary Jharkhand or Chattisgargh did not emerge as any industrial dynamos as he is spinning but they are just as they are like in the past.

Ayatollah Enqyoob, when you delete the offensive posts please leave a copy for us to read. This will help in deciding future action on the user. Past actions that did not receive a warning can have a bearing when in the future a moderator is at the crossroad of "should I warn/ban him or let him have another chance?".
If you had left a copy of the posts "on the other side", I probably would have a better idea of how to deal with the same user the next time they do something contentious.
And chetak, you only have 1 warning left and then you are out. Just FYI.

Re: Redrawing State Boundaries
Another thing my pea brain has been thinking over the past few days is about Sonia Gandhi and the foreign linkages that so often get repeated in select circles. Why would she do something to jeopardize her life and career? She is almost a ruler of India whenever INC wins. India being the most populous democracy. The only other big (hoary) democracies would be UK and USA. There is no way she can be the President of USA. I don't think she stands any chance of becoming a PM in UK or other Western Democracies. India is really the next best and big thing. Based on our leadership worshiping sub-leaders; she is guaranteed of all sorts of respect. Because of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty she has a large clout within INC, she has riches, name, fame ithiyadi. Being a female of the human species, she is going to look out for her kids with great aggression. RG and PG seem to be coasting at the moment.
So what can the foreign linkages give her? EJ? Blackmail?

Quite right. There are some things more important to Rajmata than even the promotion of EJ-ism; namely, securing the gaddi for Yuvraj and eliminating all potential threats and challengers. Those who gain too much local power and demonstrate either genuine leadership qualities or a streak of independent thought somehow end up out of the way.Exciting thoughts. Also consider the fact that the delhi rani and the YSR racket are on the opposite extremes of the EJ spectrum.
No love lost between the vatican and the protestant lot.
From global actions so far, the vatican are strategic plyers and the protestants are tactical players.
The vatican is better organised than even the pentagon and has been so for centuries.
A better job done by you than the RAW and IB.
Sure it is a religious conspiracy? I am sure you cannot divulge your source since it is an undercover job.
Thanks.
How many Christians dotting the Telegana and AP horizon? Nasty chaps, what? The non Christians are not involved? If so, good guys they are. And if they are, have they been bought or dulled with alcohol? Hopefully Scotch and not the local hooch, gurumba!
Check out if Prachanda of Nepal is also a Vatican plant supporting Communist China, hated by the Vatican!!
That will be a great help to India.
Thanks in anticipation!
RayC,
Sorry to disappoint you.
I have close family in AP who have been there and have been socially prominent since the british days. Some elderly relatives can still vividly recall significant events and put in place current ones. Additionally, many of my classmates are from large landowning rural families. Its a democratic country, there are different points of view.
I would love to reply to you in detail but as you can see I am on thin ice.
Some other time perhaps.

I don't doubt what you say.
But is it only the Christians who want Telengana as what I could make out from your post?
The others don't want it?
I may not have a long association with AP as you, no doubt, but I have 'toured' Telegana including confronting PWG. I have seen the villages too.
My meagre experience indicated that the people were not too elated with their existence and they were not Christians either.
So proof is required if one is to feel it is a conspiracy hatched by Sonia G and the Christian conglomerate.
If it is and you have proof, then it should be exposed.
But when straws in the wind is cast, it does not appear fair.

RayC,
Sorry, I may not have been very clear.
Your inference was not the intent of my post. Sorry if anyone got the impression that only the EJs want Telangana.
The EJs have gained extraordinary promininence in AP after the advent of YSR. This has wide ramifications.
There have been other minority chief ministers in AP before him but none had the very prominent EJ agenda.
I have been doing the yearly road trip to Tirupati for many years now. I am deeply dismayed at the rapid changes that I see en route after I enter AP.
Good luck to everybody on both sides of the Telangana divide. There is a lot of pain here.
Seriously, I was only trying to answer this question period.

Re: Redrawing State Boundaries
Actually christians/EJs are less in Telangana region and their expansion is more in other parts of AP. AP becoming Christian state is some paranoidism going on here. Even if we put all the crypto-christians into the mix and then also exaggerate just for pure propagand purposes the total christian population will never reach more than 25% of the population. Couple of districts in the south coastal AP with an "exaggerated count" may reach 35%. (Exaggeration is by putting certain castes all into Christians count even thought they may have 0.0000001% converted).
Having said that one thing related to this aspect is during the YSR+Sonia mafia/cabal regime, the EJs and their international peddellers got a firm foothold with slush money for their activities. That is true and visible. The funny fights that are making grapevine is the fights are between Catholic based mafia Vs. Protestant based mafia.
Yes, it has reached a critical mass/point but not in the way some BRF members are writing here. It is in the form of not-being-able to expand further than what has already been achieved.

Gujarat leads other states in industrial projects: Officials
Gujarat continues to march ahead of other states in terms of industrial activities and setting up of industrial projects in the state, a senior industry department official claimed, quoting figures given by the Central government in the Rajya Sabha.
...
From April 2008 to March 2009, a total of 1,833 industrial projects in the country were granted environmental clearance by the ministry, out of which 401 projects (the highest from any state) were from Gujarat, he added.
As per the state-wise figures, 401 projects were from Gujarat alone, while Andhra Pardesh was second with 184 projects being given the clearance by the ministry.

Take Whatever is Worth.
AP: Congress MPs come to PM for answers
Angry Congress MPs from Rayalseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday, asking him to resolve the Telangana tangle failing which they said it would be difficult for them to go back to the state as emotions were running high and they had no answers to the questions being raised.
The MPs are learnt to have blamed Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for the wording and timing of his announcement on Telangana, which they said has sent the message that the Centre is agreeable to the splitting of Andhra Pradesh and that now it is just a matter of time before the new state is born.
For the last one week, as agitations rage in Andhra Pradesh and concerned and upset MPs wait it out in Delhi -- waiting for the leadership to come up with a suitable follow up response after the home minister's midnight announcement -- Congress President Sonia Gandhi and All India Congress Committee have maintained a studied silence while the prime minister has been busy with global climate change issues in Copenhagen.
Moreover, no other senior party leader has any clue on what to do and how to diffuse the situation.
{ramana predicted this about INC in one of the posts above}
The party has been hopeful that its customary 'wait and watch' response and age-old strategy to let things "cool down" before moving in for a solution will work this time around also. So far there is no let up in the tension in Andhra Pradesh with speculation on the rise of the fate of the state chief minister who is under pressure from his colleagues to resign.
{wtf -They are combining Jagan-EJ-mafia and mining mafia. }
Sources say that the powerful mining lobby of the state is also trying to use this opportunity to get K Rosaiah out of the chief ministerial chair and instead bring in a chief minister from the mining lobby as the stakes are very high and the returns are even higher.
{The following is very important paragraph. A lot in this forum may not beleive but the tussle between Chidambaram and Sonia is a very long term one. Both of them have skeletons from the past and the past is as past as 1985. She may be powerful but she just cannot drop him. He knows that and he stoked this fire as a challenge to Sonia. "Do what you want to do..." There are three tussles inside INC like this Chidu-Sonia, Pawar- Sonia and Jagan-Sonia. The internal wars of INC is what is going on. There is a strong move by certain players to undermine rajmata's power politically as not one can do that democratically.}
Home Minister P Chidambaram is himself not happy in his chair and wants to return to the finance ministry. Sources say he is credited with the view that under him inflation had not risen so much and that the prices of essential commodities were now out of control. Neither the prime minister nor Chidambaram are happy to see Pranab Mukherjee in the Finance Minister's chair and that is another sub-plot, which may create future problems for the Congress leadership.
Sources said that a meeting of the core committee is taking place late Monday night when the Congress leadership would once again put its head together to formulate a response to bring normalcy to the state where the situation is gradually getting out of control and where its becoming difficult to make different sides see reason.
The prime minister has promised the MPs a response by Tuesday. Whether that happens would depend on the discussions in the core committee even as senior leaders have begun to chant the consensus mantra and are at pains to explain that their line is unless there is consensus in the state assembly and a resolution is brought, there can be no question of bifurcation of the state.
But this positioning say Andhra MPs is unlikely to cool the temperature since it would ignite the pro-Telangana lobby, which has been in a celebratory mood every since Chidambaram's midnight announcement.
Within the Congress and the Government the blame game at the highest level is on with a large number of leaders blaming Chidambaram for pushing the party and the government into crisis mode and for misreading the situation on Chandrasehekhar Rao's health.
Senior leaders say that Chidambaram had informed the core committee that intelligence reports were saying Rao was sinking and unless he broke his fast he may not survive. Chidambaram's argument was that this would create a situation, which would be difficult to control.
{ha ha ha - BRF members who talked about Chidambaram as the instigator are not that off the mark as some super-sensitive-BRF members alleged.}
Highly-placed sources say that Pranab, who was travelling that day in Jharkhand for the assembly polls, was of the view that the government should not give in to the blackmail tactics of Chandrashekhar Rao and that governments can neither act nor seen to be acting under pressure. He was also credited with the views that even if KCR is dying, that can be no reason to give in to his demands, as it would set off a chain reaction in other parts of the country.
Important members of core committee argued with Chidambaram that it would create political turmoil in Andhra and Rayalseema districts. Pranab returned to Delhi late in the night and by that time the two core committee meetings had already taken place and the decision was almost done.
Congress leaders are, however, at great pains not to reveal what was said by the Congress president and the prime minister on the issue during the discussions and whether they were in agreement with Chidambaram's line or whether Chidambaram acted after instructions from one or the other of them.
The AICC is continuing to maintain a studied silence, continuing to cancel the daily briefing as the party does not wish to take a stand one way or the other and now with the prime minister back from Copenhagen, the core committee would sit and deliberate on the best way to diffuse a highly volatile and explosive political land mine called Telangana.

"Do what you want to do..." There are three tussles inside INC like this Chidu-Sonia, Pawar- Sonia and Jagan-Sonia. The internal wars of INC is what is going on. There is a strong move by certain players to undermine rajmata's power politically as not one can do that democratically.}
{ha ha ha - BRF members who talked about Chidambaram as the instigator are not that off the mark as some super-sensitive-BRF members alleged.}

From today's Andhra Bhoomi 12/21
GOI is trying to split the state into 3 parts.
1. Greater Hyderabad - Process initiated to include more villages into new Greater Hyderabad state.
2. Telangana State - Senior IAS officers are asked to prepare details on the state formation process
3. Kosta-Andhra state - Includes Coasta and Rayalaseema states.

Then you would have Telengana leaders shouting Samikya Andhra (United Andhra). KCR and Lagadapati would fast together in NIMS.RamaY wrote:From today's Andhra Bhoomi 12/21

To maintain peace, all Congress can do now is status-quo that exists early this year/YSR era with some assurances to Telengana leaders.

Jokes apart, Hyderabad that is built on sweat and money of Telugus cannot be taken away. Taking away Hyderabad by making it UT/state is also killing Telugu economic interests. If that is the case Centre needs to pay fair money to Telugu people on both sides so money can be used to invest in interior development.

Free translation of an article in Andhra Bhoomi 12/21/2009 by Sri Hebbar Nageswara Rao garu. {Site doesn't archive}
I will post next part tomorrow.“Doctrine of Mandate” is losing its prominence in our constitutional system. Few people are becoming the representatives of public opinion by doing fasts and organizing few meetings. If this trend continues, the whole process of “people electing their representatives” will become useless.
It is the fundamental right of the citizens to decide whether to unite multiple states into one or divide an existing one in to separate states. Since people cannot do it without referendum, the “representatives of people” are expected to do this on their behalf. In the current system, the “representatives of people” are getting elected every 5 years, based on their promises to the electorate. Our constitution did not detail the process on how these elected representatives are supposed to do, when issues of importance outside their election manifesto appear. Are they supposed to reconfirm with the electorate? If so, how they are supposed to do it?
In the absence of such clear process in the constitution, the elected representatives are presenting their own opinions as public opinion for 5 years, even when the issue at hand is clearly outside their election manifesto. In the process everyone is forgetting the fundamental principle of “Doctrine of Mandate”.
The doctrine of mandate defines that the elected representatives do not have the right to thrust their opinion on the electorate with regards to any issue that is out of their election manifest. For example it is said that Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad reminded Pt. Javaharlal Nehru about this principle w.r.t the much debated Hindu Civil Act in 1950s.

SwamyG garu - Chidu did so and so things because he is so-and-so will never come in news papers. That is only for the believers and who can read things from that perspective keeping track of things and also anecdotal evidences from the modern-Indian history. I have provided several towards that end staring from Moopanar affair of TMC etc. The whole affair of states-formation from the times of India's independence is riddled with controversies surrounding clouts of sectarian leaders trying to put their linguistic-sects at an advantage using all kinds of means. The erroneous statistics created by British and also the non-democratic resolutions passed by British time legislative setups are also used to prove their points. Charles Darwin's theory worked and leaders who can use their clout better got/slavaged the advantages/disadvantages accordingly. Not everything is completely milk or everything is just water. It is in the similar vein that I mentioned that the agitation by Potti Sriramulu was not some super-uber-fanatic-Teluguland. It has the aspects of let us get out Tamil land first. In achieving certain things the leaders choose certain platforms that will get immediate response. Salt satyagraha by Gandhiji is not just purely opposing salt tax and it is just a platform to unite the masses with a larger goal of getting India independence. Similarly Advani doing Rath yatra for Ram Temple is not for some Temple at Ayodhya. It was to unite the Hindus of India on a political front (everyone is fine in religiosity like going to temples, doing fesitvals and poojas etc.). We can go several rounds without convincing each other in several threads. There will never be something written to prove or dis-prove our points.
So Chidu did this or did that will only come and will never come the Tam angle as I alleged that way in the earleir post. I still stand by that allegation.
From the day of allegations, things came so far in the news itself tells that BRF was able to read things ahead of curve.

Taking out all egos and politics, who will be biggest loser if the above materializes? It will be Telangana and it will be the worst thing to do to a poor man and if someone succeeds with the above the whole division of state is utter-evil with no ethics at all.RamaY wrote:From today's Andhra Bhoomi 12/21

BBC : India new 'Gorkha' state talks to continue
Its campaign was boosted when ministers said they would allow a new southern state of Telangana earlier this month.
Gorkha volunteers ended a protest fast ahead of the talks.
This followed an appeal by India's Home Minister, P Chidambaram.
The government was represented by Indian Home Secretary GK Pillai and West Bengal Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti in the tri-partite talks.
"We have said that the next round of talks should be political, it should involve the Indian home minister and the state chief minister and we are hopeful this will happen," said GJM general secretary Roshan Giri after the talks.
Mr Pillai said he had agreed to "forward" the GJM's request for political talks to the "appropriate level".
Even as the talks were taking place in Darjeeling, Bengali groups who oppose the Gorkha campaign were setting up roadblocks on the road to Darjeeling that passes through the plains of north Bengal.
A day-long strike called by them paralysed life in the northern Bengal town of Siliguri and areas around it.
Passions are running high amongst the Gorkhas in the hills and the Bengalis in the plains over the proposed state of Gorkhaland.
All major political parties in the state also oppose the move.
But the GJM and other Gorkha groups say they will not rest until a separate state is created for them.
However, there is no indication that either the Indian government or that of West Bengal will accept the demand for a separate Gorkha state.
"All such contentious issues can be resolved by discussions. But nobody should try to impose their agenda on the others," Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya has said the government was willing to give "more autonomy" to Darjeeling.
"But a separate Gorkhaland is out of the question," he said.
The Gorkhas in Darjeeling ran a long campaign for a separate state in the 1980s but then settled for considerable autonomy.
But now their leaders say the autonomy deal has not worked and they blame the Left coalition government of West Bengal for its failure.

Konaseema needs to be a separate state or union territory all by itself. People used to make fun of our language, slang, words. I was deeply offended and it left a deep scar on my psyche.
We only have buses and no trains. We have been discriminated and disrespected.

So I take it that people will lose money if Andhra is split. What is the legal position on this - can affected people take KCR Rao or GoI to court asking for financial compensation of losses that are incurred due to the division of the state?ShyamSP wrote:Jokes apart, Hyderabad that is built on sweat and money of Telugus cannot be taken away. Can the reverse also be done? Can the "people of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema" be taken to court for perceived "victimisation?"vera_k wrote: What is the legal position on this - can affected people take KCR Rao or GoI to court asking for financial compensation of losses that are incurred due to the division of the state?
The Supreme Court judgment was nullified by an Act of Parliament, and a Six Point formula was drafted guaranteeing “adequate preference to local candidates in admissions to educational institutions” but “subject to the requirements of the State as a whole”. Similarly, local candidates would be preferred “to specified extent in the matter of direct recruitment for certain posts”. A tribunal was to be constituted to deal with grievances regarding appointments, seniority and promotion.
Rain-fed regions, highly dependent on groundwater, have seen a spurt in suicides by farmers. Lift irrigation is the only way to utilise river waters fully. Geography has been unfair to Telangana, and negligence by successive governments has added to the problem.
http://www.frontlineonnet.com/stories/2 ... 601200.htmYet, the Telangana movement today is not driven by economic grievances alone. It is about a people whose identity has been eroded by dominant narratives. Beyond the many misgivings is a culture smarting from decades of perceived insult. The Telangana tongue has been reduced to a deviation from the “purer” Telugu. Telugu cinema’s classic theme of “Telangana villain versus Andhra (lately even Rayalaseema) hero” has made a parody of the region’s culture. The demand is as much for recognition as it is for separation.

In New Delhi, Congress MP K. Sambasiv Rao said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised a decision by tomorrow to “bring everything in order” in Andhra Pradesh.
Rao, who was part of a delegation of 10 MPs from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra that met Singh today, said the Centre wanted to have a re-look at the problems of all three regions.
“It is possible only through revival of the regional committees to look into irrigation, health, education, social welfare, agriculture and industrial development of all three regions once again,” he said.
The move could help buy peace in the three regions, especially coastal Andhra Pradesh.

I haven't heard of any collective "people" being taken to court. But the persons or institutions that took actions that caused demonstrable harm would be liable, yes.Stan_Savljevic wrote:Can the reverse also be done? If harm can be demonstrated in one direction, lack of social and economic progress over the last sixty years is not harm enough?!vera_k wrote: I haven't heard of any collective "people" being taken to court. Re: Redrawing State Boundaries
That's not the point. To have a case, you'd have to tie it to specific actions taken by the accused while eliminating other causes. In the present circumstances, it would be easier to prove that property values in HYD dropped as a result of KCR's agitation. But if harm could similarly be proved in the other direction, there would be a case I believe (since IANAL).Stan_Savljevic wrote:If harm can be demonstrated in one direction, lack of social and economic progress over the last sixty years is not harm enough?!
Re: Redrawing State Boundaries
how about merging jammu into punjab and ladhak into HP ?? amalmagation instead of divison??
i support gorkhaland... i mean after a short visit to Kolkatta , i can understand why its important to have a Gorkhaland.
Why we cant have some objective targets for new states to achieve failing which the process will be reverted ?
