The rest of world is obviously jealous of the Pakistanis which is why they are being singled out and being treated as untouchable. Due to their great entrepreneurial skills and dedication towards honest, hard work, the Pakistanis are so successful everywhere they go that these countries now want to not allow them in.

Incidentally Patel was initially amenable to Kashmir joining pakistan. His attitude changed only after Pakistan 'accepted' Junagadh's 'accession' (muslim king, hindu population). Patel then said that we would 'accept' Kashmir and unlike Junagadh (where 95 % of the population voted for India in the plebiscite), kashmiris under Sheikh Abdullah were not interested in joining pakistan.

The water situation and resultantly electricity situation looks grave.

Surprisingly there seems to be no accusatory reports in the Pakistani media claiming India is starving Pakistan of water:
Eight hour power outage in offing
By Khaleeq Kiani
Thursday, 24 Dec, 2009

ISLAMABAD: The electricity shortfall is estimated to cross 4200MW, or 35 per cent of the country’s demand, in two days because of massive reduction in water discharges for irrigation and resultant fall in hydropower generation.

This will result in a countrywide loadshedding of seven to eight hours a day.

The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) decided on Monday to reduce water releases from Tarbela dam to 10,000 cusec with effect from Dec 26 from the current flows of 28,000 cusec.

Likewise, releases from Mangla dam would be reduced to 5,000 cusec from the current 21,000 cusec, sources in Irsa said. ………………….

An old friend recounted his horror story of applying to get his multiple-entry, five-year visa to the UK renewed. His passport contained a similar valid Schengen visa to the EU, and one for Canada...When he opened the official-looking envelope, he found his passport missing, and a letter saying the High Commission regretted the loss of his passport....Apparently, only passports containing valid visas for other countries have gone missing.
Sounds like a great strategy to cancel existing visas.

One would have expected in a nation as crisis ridden as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that members of its legislature would have a host of other things to have takleef about rather than a sports team having a post tournament night out at a discotheque.

But then this is the Islamic Pakistan where the merest whiff of indulgence in activity considered normal by Kaafirs gets legislative knickers in a twist
'Merrymaking' hockey stars land in trouble

By Shazad Ali
Wednesday, 23 Dec, 2009

KARACHI: Pakistan hockey administrators are once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports has decided to take action against what it believes were immoral activities by players and officials in Argentina.

Jamshaid Dasti, the chairman of the committee, has taken strong notice of pictures of team officials and players with some local girls. While forward Rehan Butt was pictured hugging a local girl, some were seen drinking in the pictures.

In one of the pictures, goalkeeper Salman Akbar was seen apparently with a bottle of alcoholic drink, while his other teammates and team officials could be seen posing with girls having drinks in a discotheque.

‘First they lost the tournament, but that’s sports. But what is appalling are those pictures in which players were merrymaking and having fun with Argentine girls. We cannot tolerate such immoral acts. And this all happened in the presence of team manager and coach. Were they in Argentina to tarnish country’s image,” Dasti told Dawn on Wednesday. ..................

Meanwhile the head coach of the Pakistani hockey team assuages the takleef caused by a lack of public display of Islamic piety and had this to say:

While this I am sure is written half in jest - it is actually dead serious. I now realise that although the tech jargon for a type of human reaction (cognitive dissonance) may not even have been invented, the fact that humans can be made to react in a particular way (due to cognitive dissonance) has been used for millennia. To call a spade a spade the method is, for example, used in a rigid Islamic upbringing (among other modes of indoctrination) in which a person (often a child) is taught from the beginning that his religion makes him superior to everyone else and that all others, especially opponents are enemies who are hostile and against the religion.

At a later stage in life these people may meet a lot of nice people who do not belong to the same religion but cognitive dissonance will keep these from trusting the other fully. All they need to do is meet one bad person or one act of hostility which serves as "proof" that what they were taught is right. So it is easy to tell these pre indoctrinated people that all others are enemies who need to be fought. Cognitive dissonance is therefore an ancient religious/political tool.

High Drama at Karachi prison over release of Indian fishermen
The move by the jail authorities to free the fishermen followed an announcement on Tuesday that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had “unilaterally” decided to repatriate them to India on December 24. {The PM announces on Tuesday and the very next day, 100 Indian fishermen are released ? When was Pakistan known to act so magnanimously and so quickly ? Obviously, there is something more to it}
the fishermen assembled with their belongings, including farewell gifts from the jail and a non-government organisation for prisoners’ welfare called Saiban.

The NGO had even arranged buses to take the fishermen to Wagah border. The Pakistani media was present in full force, and Justice (retired) Nasir Aslam Zahid, a member of the bilateral judicial committee on the India-Pakistan prisoners’ issue, also showed up to bid them goodbye.

The speed with which the Prime Minister’s decision was being implemented was surprising. There was only one thing missing: the Pakistan government had omitted to tell the Indian High Commission in Islamabad in advance about the decision to release the fishermen.{There are two possibilities here. One is to paint India with a bad brush especially to its own people. The unhappy fishermen, not knowing the complete details, would be thinking that it was all their own country's fault. The second is that this could be an attempt to infiltrate terrorists by rushing things through and not giving enough time for Indian authorities to check the names etc.}
Ashraff Nizamani, the jail superintendent, announced that the fishermen would have to return to their barracks as the Indian authorities had not made necessary arrangements yet for sending them back home.
Added Later: India responsible for delay
Pakistani witnesses said some of the detainees chanted slogans against their government, saying they were “disheartened” by the news.

Chances are it maynot be to unkil's liking. Else the spin would have been more on the lines of 'moderates and democrats have raised the stakes in a bold gamble seeking to guide the destiny of Pakistan towards an enlightened future....' types, perhaps.

Some discussions are highly OT for this thread. Remember this is the TSP thread. So guys, either stop them altogether or post elsewhere and leave a link to it. Even if you have a bulb moment and really want to answer the OT posts, please stop and think - this is the TSP thread. So no more khanettes and bollywood here.

The bomb exploded near a security force checkpoint on the Mall Road, which is also near the city's military area.

Sindh is not a card
Sindh is not a card. It is a proud nation which boasts a rich heritage and culture. It cannot be used like the ace of clubs in a dirty game of power poker to satiate the egos of a few tainted politicians. This nation has been let down by its own representatives who too readily and too often offer it at the altar of power like a sacrificial lamb. It produces over two-thirds of total national income but remains a backward mess with its people living pre-historic lives in filth and squalor, deprived of even the most basic life sustaining essentials like clean water and medicines. It is a land engulfed by desperation and hopelessness, where harsh realities compel men to commit suicide while mothers are forced to either slaughter or sell their children because they are unable to make ends meet.

I think MKB is trying to fulfill some kind of quota of vaguely muscular pro-Indian article so that he can go back to writing stuff that sound like they were dictated by some honcho from Beijing in CHindu. Unfortunately he gets things mixed up, so there is no connection between title and article and in any case he is saying nothing new or different.

If these are the kind of guys that were running our foreign ministry any wonder our relations with neighbors are in such excellent shape and we are in such strategic hole?

MKB's writings need to be parsed carefully. In my view, his articles occasionally have nuggets of useful perspectives that are hard to find in Western media, but far too often these views are drowned in a sea of anti-US Cold War style bilge.

In case y'all were concerned that the Pissahour Porki Police was sitting on their thumbs since the blast, they have since then prepared a Sketch of Peshawar Press Club’s bomber and come up with an overall persona of future suicide bombers. This would help them nab the next suicide bomber that matches this description. Read on and enjoy:
According to sources, the face of the suicide bomber, who blew himself at the Peshawar Press Club, has been prepared again by the doctors. The investigation team has claimed to have make some headway in this case. According to the investigation team, the suicide bomber was possibly a Pakhtun, who was putting on conventional shoe of Charsadda. The footage showed that he pushed the trigger of suicide vest with the middle finger of his right hand.

All pashtuns wearing normal charsadda shoes and showing their middle fingers, please stand up.

Gilani says PPP-Army relationship has improved
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan People Party’s relations with the army have improved for the first time.

In an interview with a private TV channel today, Prime Minister Gilani said that the army had played its role in support of democracy, and that is why Asif Ali Zardari became President.
Top PPP leader says the Army Generals cannot blackmail PPP
PPP leader and Punjab’s senior minister Raja Riaz has said that ‘we will not be blackmailed at the hands of military generals’.

He was addressing a rally taken out as a show of support for President Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore on Thursday.

In an emotional manner, the senior minister said the present government was not formed by any general or given in a charity.

“We have formed this government as a result of long struggle and sacrifices offered by our leadership,” he said.

Riaz said that some people wanted to blackmail us. However, we can not be blackmailed by anyone.
Obviously, the above two reports appearing next to each other in The News, are contradictory. But, more than that, what sort of a nation is this where the political party needs to have a 'good' relationship with the Army ? What sort of a nation is this that political leadership talk openly about living at the mercy of the Army ?

It also suggests that while Gilani feels happy about his proximity with Gen. Kiyani, the Zardari camp feels threatened by the very same General. Hence this contradiction.

Let me state this clearly here. Any user who has a problem with Islam, Muslims or any other community... you have no place on BRF. Making sweeping statements about the loyalty of a "good portion" of Indian Muslims is showing your ignorance and doing an immense disservice to the nation.
There are bad apples in each community. If anyone feels their freedom of speech is being curtailed because they are not being allowed to vent their hatred for a certain nation, community or religion is free to not post on these forums. Hope I am very clear. Manny has been warned, though I am being very lenient here. Such actions should simply deserve an outright ban.

Options for Pakistan ---- Ijaz Ul Haq
Pakistan has vital interests and serious stakes in Afghanistan. Those detesting the doctrine of strategic depth (since abandoned by our so-called contemporary strategists) may draw pleasure by playing opposite, the initiative has been wrested by India. Located geographically to our east, India has moved physically and strategically towards our western borders as well. It has established a strong base to cause us afflictions. Twisting our tail it can hit the nail in our head. Only a simpleton could consider India to be a threat no longer. It is an illusion. With north in snow and south in sea, India now occupying both its eastern and western flanks, Pakistan can ill-afford to be content or complacent for its security concerns.

Instead of fighting the US war and sinking further and deeper into the quagmire, Pakistan must:

a. Evolve its own Afghan policy based on national interests, popular aspirations and collective wisdom through parliament.

b. Seek OIC's assistance as was done in the 80s against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia and China can help coordinate and contribute in our efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

c. Approach the UN for deployment of its peace-keeping force (instead of NATO-ISAF) to stabilise Afghanistan internally. These UN forces may comprise non-regional and preferably Muslim countries.

d. Convince the US that by becoming its ally, Pakistan, as in the past, has suffered enough. We have paid a heavy price. It is now its turn to give enough military and economic assistance. The US must prevail on India to resolve our long-standing mutual disputes, including Kashmir.

Chooha brings out a new analysis. Beware! This one can cause you to fall off your chair with laughter
Strategic Punishment: A Program To Assassinate Pakistani Military Officers
By AHMED QURAISHI

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—The bombings in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan are part of a strategic punishment against Pakistan’s military. This punishment has now entered a new stage: a systematic program for assassinating Pakistani military commanders.

Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was a possible target during the commando-style break-in and siege at General Headquarters in October. Maj. Gen. Mushtaq Baig was assassinated earlier this year, near GHQ. Four senior Army officers were ambushed commando-style on the streets of the Pakistani capital, one Brigadier was killed. Police arrested a suspect who is linked to DynCorp, a military contractor deployed at the US Embassy in Islamabad.
...and so on. :rotfl:
Pakistan, and specifically the military and the ISI, are being punished for a number of things:

1. The attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul in July 2008, which killed the Indian defense attaché. United States and New Delhi blamed Pakistan and ISI. No evidence was presented.

2. The attack on Mumbai in November 2008.

3. The Jan. 2008 attack on Serena Hotel, Kabul.

This punishment is eerily similar to the events of the 1980s when a foreign power occupying Afghanistan decided to punish Pakistan. At the time, India offered its intelligence expertise on everything related to Pakistan. The Soviets were glad and the security services of their client regime in Kabul helped unleash a wave of terror across major Pakistani cities.
US ambassador Anne W. Patterson is personally involved in meeting politicians in private houses recently to rally support for US-installed President Zardari.

Under Ms. Patterson’s guidance, US Consul Generals and other diplomats posted in Pakistan take turns every couple of weeks or so to issue belligerent press statements claiming without evidence that Pakistan is sheltering al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. They indirectly threaten to bomb major Pakistani cities. These allegations draw little reaction from a government in Islamabad that is actively pursuing a US agenda.

Hafiz Gul Bahadur is the darling of many jihad-loving people in Pakistan because he is not attacking non-Pakhtuns on the other side of the Indus. Instead, he is indiscriminately killing Pakhtuns in Afghanistan and committing atrocities on the Pakhtun in North Waziristan, which he is occupying along with another favourite of the Pakistani military establishment, Jalaluddin Haqqani. The same is the case of Turkistan Bhittani. He is the ‘good Taliban’ of the establishments and the jihadi forces in Pakistan, but people of Tank and the Wazirs and Mehsuds in Tank are sick and tired of him. In fact, I have many reports that his armed men have been harassing the helpless Mehsud IDPs who came to Tank following the current military operation in South Waziristan. The writer must know that it is mainly in response to the terrorism of the Mangal Bagh group that people in Badaber and Bazid Khel in rural Peshawar have made anti-Taliban lashkars (people’s armies). People of these areas hold Mangal Bagh responsible for killing and kidnapping for ransom in their area. Moreover, I would challenge Dr Afaq Ali to go to Khyber Agency and observe the reign of terror that Mangal Bagh has unleashed on the people there. I will be writing about these issues in my columns in the Daily Times from time to time. But for now I wish to ask what kind of message this writer is giving to the Pakhtun, i.e. killing and sufferings of the Pakhtun in Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan really do not matter as long as a militant commander does not disturb life on the other side of the Indus and keeps a good working relationship with the military establishment?

I am from Pakhtunkhwa, including FATA. I have been living in the Pakhtunkhwa province and FATA almost all my life. I came to Norway in 2002, but have always kept close ties with my native land since I went abroad.

I am writing in newspapers because I am fed up with people like the writer of this letter who seem to believe that they have a right to hide, ignore or at least tone down the sufferings of the Pakhtun on both sides of the Durand Line with lies, fabrications and distortions of facts and resist any indigenous voices, like myself, with contempt, arrogance and disgrace.
