similarly we may also add some de-escalation points to the threat-o-meter...

(the algebra of the threat-o-meter...)

also, care must be taken so that madrassa math is not used to game the threat-o-meter..

allrightie then - later folks.

No takers for TFTA Pakistani Cricketers

Waiting to read the newspapers from TSP tomorrow.
Here is a sample of reactions from Pakistani cricketers
  • “In the end it is the IPL which has lost out because the fact is our players have star value and are the best in T20 cricket,” - Abdul Razzaq
  • “They mean to say none of our players are good enough to be in the IPL. I am sorry to say the franchisees have taken a decision not based on cricketing sense but on political grounds, which is a shame and has hurt the image of the sport,” - Sohail Tanvir
  • “I think the IPL and the Indian government have lost a golden opportunity to help improve ties between the two countries. I really do believe there were political reasons behind the way our players were snubbed at the auction and it is most unfortunate” - Rameez Raja
  • "It is time the PCB organised its own league. {That takes the cake} If the need arises we should hold this league even at a neutral venue and try to invite as many Indian players as possible to give out a clear message we don’t mix sports with politics" - Abdul Qadir
  • “The fact is the IPL is a private enterprise, and if their franchises are not willing to take our players, what can anyone do. But there is no doubt that our players and Pakistan cricket have been humiliated and insulted at such a big forum in a planned manner. Our players and officials should also not go to India for any reason. But if we want a betterment of ties with India then we should just keep quiet  ” - Zaheer Abbas
For the next month or so, Pakistani newspapers and analysts will simply go ballistic. A lot of Aman-types in India will raise their voice too. But, what is noteworthy is that some of the Bollywood Aman-types have themselves rejected the Pakistani players. When it comes to their personal wealth, they play it very safe; but, when it comes to India they care a da^n. They stand truly exposed.

Arrests Ahead Of UK Flight From Pakistan

January 19, 2010
Five UK-bound passengers have been arrested at Islamabad airport in Pakistan after allegedly attempting to hand over their boarding passes to five others, Sky News has learned.

The five menhad cleared security and immigration checks with British passports for their flight heading to Manchester airport.

The Foreign Office said the five men arrested were Pakistani nationals.

Sky News Asia correspondent Alex Crawford said the men were arrested in the departure lounge.

Airport officials are thought to be investigating whether the passports were genuine or fake

Pakistan TV station’s reporters attacked
A Pakistani TV station says two of its reporters have been attacked and has hinted intelligence agencies were behind the assaults.

On Tuesday, assailants hurled stones at the empty car of Dawn TV reporter Azaz Syed and locked him and his family in his house in Islamabad.

The station also said a stone was hurled at the car of another reporter as he drove in the capital earlier this month, breaking the windshield.

The station hinted at the involvement of intelligence agencies, but did not make a direct accusation. A military spokesman was not available for comment.

Pakistan has several powerful spy agencies that operate outside state control.

Even as the GotUS allocates USD 200 M under KL Act for reforming madrasseh, the Wafaqul Madaris (the apex body of madrasseh) warns government angainst interference
The Wafaqul Madaris general secretary said intelligence agencies’ officials were raiding madrassas and harassing students. “After raiding seminaries in the NWFP, now the government is planning to target madrassas in southern Punjab, which would not be accepted and there would be retaliation against any unjust action,” Jalandhari warned. The chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Samiul Haq, on the occasion warned that the government was falling into the trap of foreign propaganda. “They [foreign forces] want to create turmoil in Pakistan and the government is following their directions,” Haq said.
The present civilian government can do nothing against Wafaqul Madaris. A powerful General like Musharraf himself had to beat a hasty retreat after announcing with great fanfare such reforms.

Meanwhile, senators demand compulsory Arabic & Quran teaching in mainstream schools
Members of the Upper House on Monday demanded of the government to make learning Arabic language and the Holy Quran mandatory and introduce a uniform system of education based on Quran and Sunnah for all institutions, whether in the public or private sector.

During debate on a motion to discuss the government’s education policy, the Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek also proposed the parliamentarians to move bills in the House to make Arabic language as a compulsory subject and bring the syllabus in accordance with teachings of Islam, Holy Quran and Sunnah of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

“Why have you not so far brought bills to make learning of Arabic and of Holy Quran mandatory in educational institutions,” Senate chairman while responding to speeches of senators Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Hafiz Abdul Rasheed said.

Some admission
He had a few things to say about our culture also: "Most of us are descended from Hindus converted to Islam. We tend to deny that and pretend that we come from Bukhara or some such place. The result is culturally we tend to be nobodies. We tend to adopt Arab culture mistakenly believing it to be the same as Muslim. The two, however, do not equate for Arab imperialism is still virulent and rife."

HAHA what an insult indeed.

This was no doubt well planned - well done Lalit Modi and the franchise owners. Make the Pakis beg to be included in the auction then blank them completely when it actually takes place.

Now it's time to finish the PCB and bankcrupt cricket in Pakistan. The last time they were broke we arranged to play a test and odi series with them - I hope the same mistake isn't made this time.

Pakistan accuses Indian troops of killing soldier
ISLAMABAD-Indian troops fired across the border running through the disputed territory of Kashmir on Tuesday, killing one Pakistani soldier and wounding another, said the Pakistani military.

The Indian military said its troops fired in self-defence after coming under attack from Pakistani soldiers, the second such reported incident in as many days.

“Pakistani troops fired at our forward post today, and we returned the fire,” said Brig. Gopala Krishanan Murali, a top army official in Indian-controlled Kashmir. “It’s a cease-fire violation on their part.”

More likely and better - it was totally unplanned Do you think that such a conspiracy could have been kept secret with Bollywood team owners?

Added later - I don;t think IPL has forgotten that Pakistan was responsible for kicking IPL out of India last time.

Actually, the Pakisatans should read the message clearly.

Of course it was not planned. There is no way in hell that government would get involved in something like this. Nor would the entertainment machine that is IPL entertain any such conspiratorial thoughts. This was a reflection of the popular will through the most unlikely of instruments - bollyket - which, ironically, happen to be the two major softhammers banging away at the hate reservoir that is the Pakisatanic establishment. And who delivered the message, three women - Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty and Tina Ambani. And the icing on the cake? Ness Wadia, the great-grandson of Jinnah  You got to love the twists of fate.

In that case, in order to ensure IPL stays in India this time without any terrorists threats, IPL should be actively recruiting more pakis. My instinct tells me that the pakis "non-state actors" are likely to issue terror warnings now, based on this humiliating rejection.

I think this wholesale rejection of paki players was based on the low likelihood of these purelanders getting visas in time and thus, not showing up. That would mean money down the drain for the IPL franchisees as the porkis would certainly sue IPL for money unearned.

IPL and India made fun of us and our country: Afridi
Captain Pakistan Twenty20 cricket team Shahid Afridi reacted angrily on the auction of the Indian Premier League and said that not only he but the Pakistani nation has been made fun of. Talking with Geo News from Sydney, Australia, Shahid Afridi said "The way I see it, the IPL and India have made fun of us and our country by treating us this way".
I feel bad for the Indian people who I am sure wanted to see us play in the IPL this year," said all-rounder Afridi, who was on offer for the relatively low base price of USD 250,000. :((
Afridi said that the cricket lovers wanted to see Pakistan players taking part in the IPL. He said that the Pakistan team is the T20 world champion and every member of this team is valuable but no franchise offered any price for them which reflects their intentions for Pakistani players.

If you look at it from that POV why is SES so special?

It's a pity isn't it that the folks in India don't even know who are the right people to vote for?

However, I find that in your eloquent reply one crucial element missing which is relevant to this particular discussion. And that is what you think of the Foreign Sec's interview about relations with Pakistan.

Do you think she was meek? Use ineffectual language etc?

If you agree to the later I would be curious to know what kind of language would have been considered effective? I asked this from one of the BRFites who shares your POV but he shied away saying he's no Word Smith. However, you are one of the most eloquent posters here so it would be interesting to know your POV on this.

Cheers!
Thanks for the post-facto edit of your post (NB: AFTER my reply to it). I see that, despite your request to the Admins, it hasn't been deleted. How embarrassing.

I rather think the following
Look Rudradev, you've already convinced yourself that the Maino-Manmohan cabal is out to screw India on the behest of the US, Pakistan, Evangalists, the Italian Mafia and whatever.
constitutes at least as much of a personal attack as being called a "shill", no? Especially when it is an entirely fictitious point of view you have attributed to me. But of course, you are merely following Congress Web Warrior Manual Directive #163.2 which is:
When the facts don't add up to your convenience, resort to an ad-hominem attack, which is archaic Italian for "smear the messenger!"
Admins, please to take note, I was merely responding in kind.

As to Nirupama Rao, I did not address that part of your query because I have immense respect for her, deriving from years of following her statements as a senior IFS officer (not affiliated to any political party as far as I know). She said what she had to say despite of Karan Thapar's leading questions, designed to extract the maximum degree of masala. I think she made her point clearly enough. I have nothing to add to that.

I responded to your intellectually dishonest attempt to sweep Sharm-el-Shaikh under the carpet by asserting that remembering when the national interest has been "sold out", in full public view, constitutes a "time warp". Too bad for you that people don't watch the Telescreen closely enough... they still remember.
I asked this from one of the BRFites who shares your POV but he shied away saying he's no Word Smith.
Do you have any more presumptions about what constitutes my POV?

While on the topic of cricket, just as ICC salivates at the prospect of India Vs TSP, wouldn't it be great if UK-eleven played with Al Queda elevel, and that too at Lords cricket stadium. And maybe India should offer to facilitate the garnd evet, with Bush & Cheney also as chief guests. And on the sidelines, resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and announce Israeli withdrawl from all of occupied territories at the end of the match. What more can contriibute to "world peace" than such a grand gesture by US/UK?

Guys, could TSP's humiliation be reversed. The Beeb is reporting that visa problems were the issue, and not any patriotic reasons for the rejection of the Paki terrorists

It was a major surprise that none of the Pakistan players were snapped up, but fears over visa problems may be to blame.
Wold it be possible for MMS/Sonia to intervene and reverse the situation?

To paklurks, just to rub it in.
India cold shoulders Pakistan as harsh reality bites the IPL auction
With the auction taking place in Mumbai, a city subjected to the worst terror attacks ever seen in India, there was little doubt that the story of the day was the shunning of the 11 Pakistan players on the auction list. When Richard Madley, who usually helps sell antiques and carpets, started proceedings by inviting bids for Shahid Afridi – an absolute steal at the base price of $250,000 – not one of the paddles shaped like the Olympic flame went up. There was only silence, an emptiness that echoed around the room at the Trident Hotel later when names like Umar Akmal and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan came up. Clearly the decision to boycott the neighbours was based on political realities and not cricketing form. Anyone who considers Kaif a better batsman than young Umar or Martyn a better Twenty20 bet than Afridi has been on mind-altering substances for far too long.

It is not clear to me that:
1) an open exposure to India, and the prospect of monetary benefit, would impact Pakistani cricketers to have some loyalty to India;
2) Nor would the frustration and anger of being unable to participate & prosper in India would turn them into "Erin Brokovich of Pakistan" fighting against the feudal power structure that led to such a terrible isolation.

But it is very clear to me that the hurt "Honor and Dignity" of such a denial would absolutely unite the RAPE's, and strengthen the feudals. This will indirectly lead to call for retribution (violence) against India.

While it was a strategic mistake to have moved IPL-2009 to South Africa as it failed to assert the message that "India will prevail". India seems to be making another "tactically pleasing but strategic mistake" by denying access to Pakistani cricketers, India (IMO) is helping RAPE class to fortify because of a hurt H&D and missing a potential opportunity to "confuse and divide".

Minister complains over Pakistan snub (Times Live)
“I have phoned the sports minister of India and recorded a protest over the unjust and discriminatory treatment meted out to the Pakistani cricketers,” sports minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani told AFP. “It is indeed a matter of disrespect of Pakistani heroes, who are the champions of Twenty20 world cup,” he said.
We applied for the IPL only on their insistence and not on our own,” Afridi told AFP from Australia, where he is featuring in the domestic Twenty20 competition.
Bari refused to comment on whether the IPL snub will further damage the relationship between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which tends to mirror relations between rivals India and Pakistan.

Do you belong to the elite list of WKKs? Only a complete deracination hindu hatred from TSP minds will have any positive impact. Inviting a few TSP players will have no impact. On the contrary, it will only solidify the racist equal equal outlook of US/UK. TSP will play cricket, worship Bollywood etc; and in the same breath dispatch medival Islamic barbarians to maim and slaughter under the backdrop of nuke blackmail, and all India will get is symptahy, and "Al Queda is out to disrupt peacfeful relations between India and TSP". If this doesn't make you puke, I urge you to get a reality check.

Pakistan offers friendliest investment atmosphere (Daily Times)
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has one of the friendliest foreign investment regimes and public-private partnership frameworks in the world, Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Abdul Basit told a meeting of envoys representing the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) on Monday.
The FoDP representatives were informed that four sectors, namely energy, infrastructure development, agriculture and agro-based industry and social sectors had been identified for public-private partnerships.
The FoDP representatives expressed their full support to the vision of PPPC and vowed to make it a success.

Extremely appropriate that they would snub the pakis at a venue where pakis massacred innocent men, women and children.

What we tend to miss when we read such news is that the Pakis are telling the truth - in a sense. Kickbacks are rampant in Pakistan, and any company with guts can set up shop and make whatever profit they can from Pakistan as long as they pay the necessary kickbacks. That is what they mean by "investment friendly".

A whole lot of quickfire Paki defence deals are kickbacks based.

Pakistani neuroscientist says boycotting NY trial (Reuters)
The trial of Aafia Siddiqui, a U.S.-trained neuroscientist charged with shooting at her U.S. interrogators in Afghanistan, began on Wednesday with her announcement to potential jurors she would boycott the case. "I'm out of this," Siddiqui, 37, told about 100 potential jurors as lawyers in the case began selecting a jury at Manhattan federal court. "I'm boycotting the trial, just to let you know. There's too many injustices."
Siddiqui told U.S. District Judge Richard Berman she would not cooperate with her attorneys and repeatedly denounced the proceeding. She told Berman she would offer her side "whenever God wills, but not in this courtroom... There's too much lies and hypocrisy here."
Family members in Pakistan have said they believe she was raped and tortured at Bagram. Parliamentarians from Pakistan who have visited Siddiqui have called for her to be repatriated to Pakistan. Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani met with Siddiqui's sister at the prime minister's residence last month. He assured her that Pakistan would seek here release from U.S. detention and had approved $2 million for her defense, Pakistani media reported.
Justice is not served unless a Pakistani terrorist is acquitted of all charges regardless of substantial evidence. She probably wants a personal apology from POTUS for her arrest/trial and an expression of gratitude from GOTUS for her jihad.

Crazy neuroscientist!

Folks the bidding was on at the Oberoi Trident, where the PA/ ISI combo indulged in mass slaughter just months ago. I am not too unsure if the atmosphere there would have had an effect on bidding for Paki players. Paki sports ministry has no right to complain. Noone is gonna miss them for sure.

Minister complains over Pakistan snub
“I have phoned the sports minister of India and recorded a protest over the unjust and discriminatory treatment meted out to the Pakistani cricketers,” sports minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani told AFP.

“It is indeed a matter of disrespect of Pakistani heroes, who are the champions of Twenty20 world cup,” he said.
Pakistani players said they felt humiliated.

“We applied for the IPL only on their insistence and not on our own,” Afridi told AFP from Australia, where he is featuring in the domestic Twenty20 competition.
Zaheer Abbas wrote:The fact is the IPL is a private enterprise and if their franchises are not willing to take our players what can anyone do. But there is no doubt that our players and Pakistan cricket have been humiliated and insulted at such a big forum in a planned manner," he told The News, a Pakistan daily.

It was a business decision tempered with the location of the auction.

Absolutely agree Krithivas jee. Everyone knows that whenever Purelander cricketers have graced India with their presence, good terrorists have never hurt Yindians, now that we have pissed them off, retribution is coming our way.

I am sure it is a RSS-BJP conspiracy to shatter the peace between the two brotherly countries. Narendra Modi - Lalit Modi, hain jee?

Well there is nothing to be sad or happy about this decision but one development is very gladdening to my heart, that is nowadays anything India or Indian organizations do or do not do it ends up with a lot of :(( :(( from across the Ravi. In other words India despite the best intentions of pure establishment affects them in ways real and imagined that they find it hard to admit or reconcile to. I liked the part where their sports minister called up Modi only to be rebuffed, got the visions of brown sahibs petitioning to burra sahibs of London. India has started to become a player in Pakistan, too early to tell but let us see where it goes.

PS: They will get some crumbs (from IPL 2010 too) but no equal seat at Indian republic's high table, that matter was sealed in 1947. I think this is the message that GOI wants to send out across the border.

IPL and India made fun of us and our country: Afridi
You get what you deserve Mister, Personally I want to send you to your brother/half brother/quarter brother or 10% brother who was turned into a pesticide by IA!!
This is a great shot in the balls to the Honor and Dignity of Pakistan. Mind you folks, Pakistan has a great fan base for IPL. The sponsors do know this fact. Still we have this snub. Wonder who threatened these franchisee owners? I am sure these owners are no patriots. I am sure all of them must have got a call from some BIG gun. Question is Who called these people?
