WCH is coming to Dilli even if the taleebs want to ensure that mayhem is in the air. The captaincy issue is aside, or so I hope. HI elections are a god forbid for anyone with a keen sense of health consciousness. The ddm is keen on creating sensationalist headlines highlighting dumb and dumber issues. Fck em, truly and honestly, for hope is in the air. The rest of the country is busy watching crikkit matches, I hope they will have the stomach to watch some real kickass akshun on the hockey pitch soon. The refurbished Dhyanchand stadium is gleaming. Folks are a-hungry and rage is the in-thing today. Rage of the angry young man, who has been ignored consistently and treated petulantly for long since he has known. With two middle fingers raised high above the clouds, the angry young hockey man is waiting to give a hell-yeah to everyone with a short attention span and an unimpressionable dictum on what is good and what is passe, welcome to WCH time folks. One week left, if you did nt know that....

Demographic Breakup of Indian Men Hockey Players
http://www.bharatiyahockey.org/calendar ... emographic
Hockey has been, and still is, Indias national game, because it has alway been more inclusive and more representative of real India than any other sport. Though no study has been done yet on the sociological aspect of hockey, its difficult to miss the fact that the game has been dominated by minorities: Ango-Indians, Jat Sikhs from Punjab, Muslims from Uttar Pradesh and Bhopal, Catholics from Mumbai and Mangalore, and tribals from the Orissa-Jharkhand heartland. Even the Northeast has produced players like Thoiba Singh. Indian hockey has been a great social equaliser. According to S. Anand, the publisher of Navayana books, one can't miss the caste equations in sports. Hockey is predominantly played by Other Backward Classes, Dalits, Adivasis and Sikhs, who are used to sweating it out.

Worst organized, with that clarification aside, any WCH is only as good as how well the Injun team performs. Yes, the preparations and organization are tardy, so much infighting etc., but so what? Has hell frozen over, the WCH will still take place, school crowd will still come in, big deal. As and when the Injun team moves ahead into the semifinals spot, the slumbering Injun mass will wake up. Even during the 1928 Amsterdam olympics, with the all-powering Anglo-Indian team, there was a soliloquy that was sung till the finals played and noone still has a clue why Jaideep Singh Munda left the capitancy baton minutes before the finals was played. Even the vintage Dhyan Chand, Roop Singh, Leslie Claudius crowd got attention only after the league games were won over by a billion goal margin. We are like this onlee, more power to the Injun team.

If I find any, I will let you know. s2h should have "live" text commentary.

In India, TEN sports should have it live. In oz, fox sports. From an ad in s2h, "In USA watch all matches lives on (Cricket Plus) channel on DirectTV. In Canada, watch it live on (Cricket Plus) on Rogers cable and shaw cable."

Check for more details here in a few days, there may be updates.

Kiwi striker pulls out citing security as teams trickle in
New Zealand striker Simon Child has pulled out of the Hockey World Cup citing security concerns even though the rest of the squad departed for India for the two-week tournament which starts on February 28.

Child said he took the decision because he felt he could not give his best under a heightened security environment. “It’s not an ideal environment to be trying to play your best hockey,” he was quoted as saying by the New Zealand Press Association. “I think that was the major issue that swayed me when I made up my mind. It was extremely tough, probably the toughest decision I’ve had to make in my life,” he said.

India start practice on a right note
http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_in ... te_1351799
India defeated Argentina 2-1 in a World Cup practice match at the Dhyanchand Stadium here on Tuesday. The hosts scored their first goal in the 49th minute through a penalty corner taken by Sandeep Singh, while the second goal came in the 57th min through skipper Rajpal Singh’s solo effort.

There is the Uber Cup Asian rounds taking place in Thailand. Saina Nehwal is doing all the best she can to prop us to the main rounds.

I had quite a bit of stuff on the hockey WC, but the bleaping stickykey means that I lost all the data. Anyway,
. Doordarshan -- all matches live
· Ten Sports (cable and satellite; India Subcontinent) – all matches live
· Astro Super sports (cable and satellite; Malaysia, Indonesia) – all matches live
· Starhub – (cable and satellite, Singapore) – all matches live or delayed
· PTV (terrestrial, Pakistan) – PAK matches and final
· NOS (terrestrial, Netherlands)– extended daily highlights and live coverage of selected matches

shivendra singh and sandeep singh scores ! we had 3 penalty corners in all, sandeep was not on the field for the first one and we failed to score though it was a good shot. sandeep came on for the next two and shivendra scored from a rebound from sandeep's shot. sandeep scored the second one just before the break. we had two very good field chances but the paki goalie saved them. our defence has been excellent minus a couple of lapses. they have kept complete control of the midfield and all long shots are being intercepted before they reach the paki players.
on another note, this is the first time I think I'm watching rajpal, he has some nifty stickwork !

Pak trying to come back into the agme in the 2nd half. Putting some pressure on India. But defense holding good so far.

The Pak Goalie is having a great game. Has made 4 saves till now.

BTW Pak is ranked 7th in the world, while India is ranked 10th. By the performance in today's game, it doesn't look like their team is any better.

I don't know how we stand against Aus, Ger or Hol though.

we played a bit loosely in the last 20 min of 2nd half. still won 4-1. 1 goal conceded from penalty corner.sandeep scores two from PC and had 1 assist. the other was a field goal, I think pravjyot scored it, not sure. I missed that part due to my cablewallah flipping channels. :x

eat that ddm, open your wide moth-balled mouth and eat that.

sdres are giving everyone goose-jitters by sitting on their fat-ass cushions and chilling down. go man2man marking. prabhjot hugging and kissing brasa after the goal would nt send great signals to RS or SS. DR still seems edgy in PC conversions, definitely not the calibre of SS. Seems like JB's moment of madness resulted in AdS getting replaced with PRS, tru-blu sdre. BS must be sitting at home wondering what hit the team today. SA, who is big daddy now? 8).. And Salman Akbar, ye suck, big daddy o r back.

meanwhile, the white pakis lost to the albions. Hahha, opens up the field like nothing else. Esp given that this is a sucky side of the field. How I wished we were pooled with the sorry-asses from Nz, Can, SK, etc.?

Onwards, hell-fire owise :).

PS: RahulM, when did hickey have "assists"? 2 much "total foosball " in the name of Johann Cryuff gotten you too?! 8)

The brave Tableeghis can't lose.

The bhindians used made in Israel( by joos using American money) goal posts that repelled the ball when the Tableeghis took a shot at the goal.
