Excerpts from:
Angered by Pakistan, PM rejects all talk of talks
Angered by Pakistan, PM rejects all talk of talks
NEW YORK: Prime minister Manmohan Singh was so irritated by Pakistani prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s remark at a media roundtable seeking more evidence from India against the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) that Singh, on Tuesday, ruled out talks with Pakistan until it took “credible steps” to prosecute the LeT leadership which masterminded the Mumbai carnage.
....
Gilani may well regret shooting his mouth off. Diplomats say the Pakistani foreign office has been in overdrive, trying to set up a meeting between Singh and Gilani on the sidelines of the Saarc summit, a mere fortnight away in the Bhutanese capital Thimpu. Now that meeting could be twice as hard to pull off
“If we have more effective evidence, certainly they will be brought to justice,” Gilani said. His remark did nothing but vex India which has already answered a set of 30 questions that Islamabad put to it regarding 26/11.
India ... provided bulging dossiers with telephone conversations with their Pakistan-based handlers, fingerprints and other details of the terrorists who struck in Mumbai, besides forensic analysis of GPS, ammunition and other equipment used by the terrorists.
“So I do not think there is any need for me to produce additional evidence to prime minister Gilani about the role the LeT, Hafiz Saeed, Ilyas Kashmiri and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi are playing in fanning terrorist acts directed against India,” Singh said tartly.
Pinning the responsibility on Pakistan for mending ties ruined by the Mumbai attacks, Singh pointed out that “there are still people who are named as part of the conspirators, but are roaming around freely” in Pakistan. The PM said the LeT hand in the Mumbai attacks was established by American intelligence; “Not by our investigations and our intelligence but by the intelligence of our friendly countries.”
“We would like Pakistan to at least bring all of these perpetrators of these horrible crimes to book and do so effectively. That’s the minimum that we expect from Pakistan. If Pakistan does that, we will be very happy to begin talking once again,” Singh told reporters.
Singh also told Obama on Sunday that Pakistan’s government lacked the will to punish those responsible for the Mumbai attacks. Obama responded by pressing Gilani to take action against the LeT. Gilani confirmed that Obama raised Singh’s concerns to him.
Singh ran into Gilani twice during the two-day nuclear security summit in Washington, but Singh said “there was no serious discussions” during the encounters. Clearly, the PM doesn’t want anyone reading anything into a perfunctory handshake at a working dinner on Monday hosted by Obama.
“I complemented the prime minister on the passage of the constitutional amendment bill which I think makes the prime minister a more powerful personality in Pakistan’s political system. But beyond that there was no serious discussion,” emphasised Singh.
Separately, Singh got an assurance from Obama that India would get access to LeT operative David Coleman Headley. “The president is aware of the legal position and we will get access to Headley,” Singh told reporters.
In a veiled reference to Pakistan, Singh added that the summit had addressed India’s fears; “We have been voicing our concerns regarding nuclear proliferation, clandestine activities and nuclear trafficking for some time,” said Singh. “This is the first time the international community has come together to recognise that these are serious concerns and that’s a matter of satisfaction.”.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Apr. 11, 2010
Singh's back-handed compliment to Gilani
There are few more items above, worth reading...Turns out Manmohan Singh "ran into" Yousuf Gilani, the Pakistani PM, not once, but twice. Talking to journalists, Singh said, "In fact, I complimented the prime minister on the passage of the constitution amendment bill which makes the prime minister a more powerful personality in Pakistan's political system." Was the PM sarcastic? It's not Singh's style, but nobody is in any doubt about who is calling the shots in Pakistan anymore, and its certainly not Gilani.
Chorus against nuke deal for Pak
The prospect of Pakistan getting a nuclear deal from the US has exercised more Indians than even the non-proliferation ayatollahs who pepper Washington DC. Even those Indians who had bitterly opposed the Indian nuclear deal are now implacably against Pakistan getting one, to the extent that even foreign minister S M Krishna was forced to comment on Pakistan's "past record". When questioned, the PM took a philosophical stand. "Who am I to interfere in what goes between the US and Pakistan? That's for those two countries to consider."

The message that the latest change sends out is a dangerous one. It comes at a time when we see at periodic intervals orgies of violence that involve the burning of houses belonging to non-Muslims or the torture of members of minority groups, often after charges of blasphemy have been brought. We have seen lynching carried out in public on these grounds. All around us we see in fact a kind of 'cleansing' on the basis of religion that should leave us ashamed. Hindus from Sindh – sometimes even from communities where they had lived in peaceful harmony with their Muslim neighbours for years – have been forced to flee to escape forced conversions or the kidnapping of their daughters. The few Sikh families who still lived in the tribal areas have been driven out of their homes by the Taliban following the imposition of 'jaziya' taxation on them. Christians have, since the 1980s, begun disappearing to escape discrimination; the names on school registers even at missionary-run institutions in Lahore reflect the change and the monolithic nature of the society we live in.The attitudes that have created this are for a large part the product of state policies. The laws against Ahmadis, the separate electorate for minorities and the 'Islamisation' policies have all encouraged social and economic discrimination. Opportunities available to non-Muslims have closed down. Employers are less likely to grant them jobs or offer promotions; schools deny them admission. The Basant festival has been labelled as being 'Hindu' and, therefore, undesirable. Even the simple act of flying a kite has been given a religious overture. There can be little doubt this has been a factor in the ban on Basant and the sport of kite-flying that has led to the fluttering paper shapes vanishing from the skies over Lahore, a city that once observed the only secular festival on our calendar with unrivalled passion. There is evidence too that the unpleasant process of creating a kind of sterile uniformity by rooting out diversity is growing. Muslim sects have confronted the wrath of those who hold they are non-Muslim. The mass killing of Shias in Karachi on two separate occasions as they marked Muharrum is just one example of this. Other groups have faced threats of many kinds. Some indeed, to protect themselves and their children, have chosen to disguise identity. Other groups, such as the small number of Jews who once lived in Karachi, have simply left the country.

US to channel more aid via Pakistan govt
ISLAMABAD: The United States will channel more aid to Pakistan directly through the government, the new head of the US overseas aid agency said on Wednesday.
On his first visit to Pakistan after being appointed US Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator in December, Rajiv Shah, said the US was “incredibly” serious about changing the way the USAID used to work in Pakistan, Reuters reported.“Our investments have often gone to US-based contractors and US-based organisations, and too much of those resources have landed back in the US,” he told a news conference.“Our team is committed to increasing the proportion of spending that we provide directly to the government and directly to the Pakistani institutions.”Shah said the US was willing to initiate high-impact projects in various sectors of Pakistan to address critical development and needs of the country. He said it was willing to demonstrate strong relations with the political leadership of Pakistan by initiating projects in the energy, agriculture, water resources, education, and health sectors through a long-term partnership over the next few years.

As for culture did not the founder of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mohammed Ali Jinnah claim that there was no such thing as a shared culture when he said :
"We are a nation with our own distinctive culture and civilization, language and literature, art and architecture, names and nomenclature, sense of values and proportion, legal laws and moral code, customs and calendar, history and tradition, aptitudes and ambitions; in short, we have our own distinctive outlook on life and of life. By all canons of international law, we are a nation"

Suddenly, the 'boys' became abominable 'intolerant terrorists', she led protest marches in Islamabad etc. BTW, she cannot, on her own, go to Paradise but that is OT here.amit wrote:I'm waiting but am pretty sure the terrorists will soon come calling on the Madam and her family. Pakistan uses giant scanners to stop truck suicide bombers
Islamabad, April 14, 2010
Police in Pakistan have deployed two giant bomb detectors on roads into Islamabad in their latest efforts to stop suicide truck bombers striking the capital.
This is the first time Pakistani authorities have used the Chinese-built devices to protect a city since Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked groups went on a bombing campaign, killing more than 3,200 people in three years.
Checkpoints have mushroomed over the last year in the capital, where a suicide truck bomb demolished part of the five-star Marriott Hotel in September 2008 killing 60 people, and there are frequent alerts about possible attacks.
Police say 1,000 officers are manning more than 90 checkpoints at entry points, along main roads, outside sensitive targets and in residential areas.
The scanners resemble giant airport security arches, mounted on wheels so they can pass back and forth over stationary vehicles.
On a dusty road outside the capital, the pale grey arch of one scanner, standing more than 15-feet high, checked a brightly painted truck.
Inside the control booth, Muhammad Afzal, the officer in charge, kept a close eye on a bank of computers analysing the image. “The scanners have a 100-per cent accuracy rate,” he told AFP. “We detected 20,000 bullets in a private vehicle yesterday,” he added.
It turned out the ammunition belonged to the paramilitary and was being legally transported.

Islamabad has two roads. Both have scanners. Islamabad is secure from Islamic bombers. Chinese truck scanners are 100% efficient at finding vehicles with 20,000 bullets.

Nuclear deal for Pakistan = CRE. Period fullstop.
1. Pakistan might get a few nuclear light water reactors in return for CRE (This was the same deal massa was working on with N korea - reactors for N bums)
2. Pakistan doesn't have the money to buy even one 1 GW reactor. All investment money will have to be funded by the company that builds that reactor.
3. The world needs to do something about the three N plants at Kahuta. One is operational, the second is in testing phase while the third will be completed shortly. They will all be used to extract Pu and I am sure that the chinese have given the pakis a Pu bum design too to put that Pu to good use.
Thing to note is that once the pakistanis start using that Pu, they will be one more step closer to being independent as a N bum power.

I was always under the impression that MMS was a straightforward by-the-book babu who will follow the 24 rules, 3 notifications, 2 summons before blowing his top. He is now blowing his top. This has happened before in his dealings with the opposition.
Also you have to realize that (it is a good thing that) the guvrmand has both camps. The peace pipe camp and take action camp. Based on events, the hands of one camp vs the other is strengthened. The Pakis regularly misread it and think "This MMS fellow is meek, let us do some bravado". What happens then is that the peace camp loses their leverage and the kick musharraf camp gets strengthened and ultimately reacts. Similarly there is Unkil lover camp and there is a Unkil hater camp (who realizes that Unkil is not around to take care of India's requirements & needs). Again one or the other camp gets strengthened based on events. The Unkil hater camp will be getting the upper hand -- the recent statement that India will protect its interests vis a vis Afghanistan and is not going to play by Unkil's rules is an indication of this.
This is what makes me keep my faith in India.

I don't know why this writer is blaming the 18th amendment for denying the minorities a chnce to become the PM of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. How incongruent it would be if that were to happen ! In a country that admitted the first Sikh soldier into its Army only after sixty years, and where a Hindu is yet to be admitted, a minority can only dream of reaching that position. Yet, Z.A.Bhutto, to whom the title of the modern-day Caliph should go for Islamizing the Pakistani society, had ensured that only a Muslim could occupy that exalted position of Prime Ministership. This is how he did it, surreptitiously, in the oath that a PM is supposed to take (3rd Schedule of the Pakistani Constitution):One of the more insidious doings of the 18th Amendment has been to seal off the office of prime minister to non-Muslims by declaring that the post will be held by a Muslim. The presidency has, since 1956, already been reserved for Muslims alone. The original justification given for this was that the post was a symbolic one. While in the kind of state we live in today, there was little practical possibility of someone from a minority religious community moving into the office of prime minister, the existence of the theoretical possibility was important. Indeed it is ironic that this opening has been closed just as real authority has been shifted to the prime minister. It is also ironic that a measure aimed at strengthening democracy should reserve the most important political office in the land for a specific community. The exclusion of all other citizens is, after all, most blatantly undemocratic.
While insiders say the proposal came from the PML-N, the fact is that parties like the 'secular' ANP and the 'liberal' PPP are both guilty of going along with it. One of the legacies of the Zia age has been that, once a 'religious' tint has been placed over any item – no matter how rotten it may in reality be – no one dares speak out.
I, ____________, do swear solemnly that l am a Muslim and believe in the Unity and Oneness of Almighty Allah, the Books of Allah, the Holy Quran being the last of them, the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the last of the Prophets and that there can be no Prophet after him, the Day of Judgment, and all the requirements and teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
How can a non-Muslim take that oath to become the PM in the Land of the Purest ?
In any case, I have a fundamental question ? Who is a Muslim ? A Court of Inquiry set up in 1953 with CJP Munir and SC Judge M.R.Kiani came to the conclusion that it was impossible to define a Muslim ! It said "neither Shia nor Sunnis nor Deobandis nor Ahl-i-Hadith nor Barelvis are Muslims and any change from one view to the other (murtad) must be accomplished in an Islamic state with the penalty of death " In present day Pakistan, an Ahmeddiya is obviously not a Muslim as the Constitution itself states. Can a Shi'a become a PM in the predominantly Sunni state ? No, not possible at all. SSP, HuJI, LeJ, JeM and various others will vapourize Pakistan if that were to happen. What about Ismailis, Bohras and Bah'ais ? No, they are not Muslims if one were to listen to Deobandis, and Ahl-e-Hadees.
A day will come soon, Insha Allah, when only a Salafi Sunni will be defined as a 'Muslim' who can become a PM there. That will be the golden day. AoA.

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Apr. 11, 2010
What is this UN investigation into BB's assassination ? We have already solved the case: Punjab Police
As Pakistan and the world wait for the UN report on Benazir Bhutto’s assassination today (Thursday), it has been revealed that the Punjab police had already told the UN Inquiry Commission that the murderers of Benazir had been traced, arrested and are being tried.
Her assassination was an open and shut case for the Punjab police, which had instantly solved it way back in February 2008 by tracing the mastermind of the Liaquat Bagh suicide attack as well as the suicide bomber, who had blown himself up on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi, the UN has been told.
Whether the UN report takes this investigation into account and how much importance it is given will be seen in the report of the UN commission.
According to well informed diplomatic sources in Islamabad, the United Nations Inquiry Commission, headed by Heraldo Munoz, was informed by the CID officials during the course of its investigations that the assassination of Benazir Bhutto had been masterminded by the slain Ameer of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Commander Baitullah Mehsud and the bomber, who exploded himself outside the Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, was one Saeed alias Bilal, a resident of South Waziristan Agency.
According to official documents provided to the UN Inquiry Commission by the CID Punjab, a group of 12 militants was actually dispatched to the garrison town of Rawalpindi, a day prior to Benazir Bhutto’s December 27, 2007 election rally, to physically eliminate the PPP leader, who was touring Punjab in connection with her party’s election campaign. The FIR of the Benazir Bhutto murder case was registered by the Rawalpindi police under sections 302/324,435,436,120-B/4/5ESA,7/ATA while investigations were carried out by the Additional Inspector General CID Punjab Chaudhry Abdul Majeed.
According to the CID documents, four of the 12 militants tasked to kill Benazir Bhutto belonged to Madrassa Haqqania in Akora Khattak near Peshawar, which is also referred to as Darul Uloom Haqqania. The Madrassa is being run by Maulana Samiul Haq, the pro-Taliban Ameer of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Three of the 12 TTP militants have been shown in the CID documents as already killed, including the suicide bomber. Of the remaining nine accused, five have already been arrested by police while the remaining four are still at large.
Additional Inspector General of the CID Punjab, Malik Mohammad Iqbal, when asked if the Punjab CID still owns its findings into the Benazir Bhutto murder case, said the assassination inquiry was actually conducted by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which was headed by the then additional DIG CID and representatives of the Rawalpindi police.
He said it was a joint probe on the basis of which the challan of Benazir Bhutto murder case had been submitted with a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court, which still holds ground and the trial of the arrested accused is still on.
The three accused shown as already dead include the human bomb Saeed alias Bilal (r/o Waziristan), Nadir alias Qari Ismail (r/o Madrassa Haqqania, Akora Khattak) and Nasrullah r/o Madrassa Haqqania, Akora Khattak). Four other accused in the Benazir Bhutto murder, who are still at large and have already been declared proclaimed offenders include Ikramullah r/o South Waziristan, Abdullah alias Saddam r/o Mohmand Agency, Faiz alias Kiskit, an ex-student of Madrassa Haqqania, Akora Khattak and Abdur Rehman alias Noman alias Usman, an ex-student of Madrassa Haqqania.
The remaining five accused already in the custody of the Rawalpindi police and being tried for the Benazir Bhutto murder include Rafaqat, Hasnain Gul, Sher Zaman, Rasheed Ali and Aitzaz Shah.
According to the findings of the CID, Baitullah Mehsud had given Rs 400,000 to one Qari Ismail, who subsequently dispatched a group of suicide bombers and shooters to Rawalpindi to kill Benazir Bhutto.
The UN Commission was told by some senior CID officials that the TTP militants had planned to target Benazir Bhutto in different cities, wherever she was going in connection with her campaign, until she was finally killed.
According to the CID narrative, 15-year-old Aitzaz Shah from the Mansehra district of the NWFP, and his co-accomplice Sher Zaman, reportedly trained at Miramshah, were the first ones to be arrested after the Benazir Bhutto murder from Dera Ismail Khan by a joint investigation team of the Punjab police, headed by Chaudhry Abdul Majeed. Two more suspects, Hasnain Gul and Rafaqat, were later arrested from Rawalpindi. Rasheed Ali was the last one to be nabbed but Aitzaz was the first one to have furnished some vital information to his interrogators pertaining to the Benazir murder.
As the police obtained physical remand of the arrested accused and broadened the scope of investigations, it was learnt that Aitzaz Shah had actually obtained Jihadi training from a well known Deobandi religious school in Karachi — Jamia Binoria, also referred to as Jamia Islamia and known for its pro-Taliban leanings. As per the CID report, after being brainwashed and trained to kill, Aitzaz was sent to South Waziristan from where he had travelled to Darul Uloom Haqqania Madrassa in Akora Khattak. {One thought that these wonderful seminaries only taught its students the peaceful religion of Islam, madrassah math etc.} Afterwards, Aitzaz was taken to a Jihadi training centre in Akora Khattak - Wali Mohammad Markaz and tasked with the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
According to the CID findings, Baitullah had provided Rs 50,000, a suicide jacket and other necessary items to someone else, but he could not attack Benazir Bhutto. After his suicide bombers’ failure to hunt down the PPP chairperson in Karachi, Peshawar and other places, Baitullah Mehsud had assigned Qari Ismail of Akora Khattak and given him Rs 400,000 to execute the Benazir assassination plan. After reaching the Rawalpindi bus stand on December 26, the assailants had stayed at a Quaid-i-Azam colony house. In the evening, they visited the Liaquat Bagh site in a taxi and decided after surveying the area to hit their target from different directions during or after the public meeting.
As per the assassination plan, Saeed alias Bilal was to carry out the suicide attack in case he failed to shoot down Benazir while Ikramullah was to detonate himself if Saeed failed. Both Saeed and Ikramullah were provided logistics by Hasnain Gul, including an explosive-laden suicide jacket, a pistol and an optical device.
The assailants had reached the Committee Chowk in a taxi and later gone to the Liaquat Bagh via Iqbal Road and College Road. An unarmed militant went inside the Liaquat Bagh to give his accomplices updates about the movement of Benazir Bhutto, especially about her arrival and departure from the venue of the rally. As per the CID claims, the assailants had first attempted to enter the Liaquat Bagh to carry out a suicide attack close to the stage, but they had failed in their designs, chiefly due to foolproof security arrangements.
The UN Commission was further informed that several suicide bombers and sharp shooters were waiting for the PPP leader at the crime scene outside the Liaquat Bagh after their failure to enter the venue. Going by the CID account, the assailants had started chasing Benazir Bhutto as soon as she came out of the Liaquat Bagh and it was none other than the fearless PPP chairperson, who actually provided them with a golden opportunity to target her, when she decided to come out of her bullet proof vehicle Toyota Land Cruiser from its sunroof to wave to her cheerful supporters. That was the time gunshots were fired, aiming at Benazir Bhutto. As Saeed alias Bilal failed to hit Benazir Bhutto, he blew himself up, killing the PPP leader and 23 others, mostly on the spot. However, the Dopatta, which Benazir Bhutto was wearing at the time of the blast, could not be traced despite frantic efforts by the investigators.
Narrating the motivation of the crime, the CID findings say the accused had said during interrogations that they were annoyed over the pro-West approach of Benazir Bhutto who had returned to Pakistan at the behest of some foreign powers and, therefore, they feared a strong government action against the militants if she was allowed to come to power after the elections.
However, the fact remains that much before coming to power after the 2008 general elections; the PPP leadership had rejected the confession made by Aitzaz Shah and his other accomplices about their involvement in the Benazir Bhutto murder.
The then PPP spokesman and now presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar had described Aitzaz’s confession a cock and bull story intended to reduce pressure on the Musharraf regime, saying the arrested youth, who has already been declared a juvenile by the court, had been made to narrate exactly the kind of things the Pakistani authorities wanted to hear, backing up their earlier conclusions reached within hours of the Benazir Bhutto killing.
The trial of the five accused in Benazir Bhutto murder case was deferred on August 22, 2009 by the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court following a federal government request to transfer the case to the Federal Investigation Agency so as to enable it to arrive at a definitive conclusion. Subsequently, on August 25, 2009, the federal government had formed a high-level team to re-investigate the Benazir murder.
The Special Investigation Group of the FIA was assigned the task to fix criminal liability on the assassins and planners of the gun-and-bomb attack on Benazir Bhutto. It was announced that the SIG’s investigation would be parallel to the probe being carried out by the United Nations Inquiry Commission.
“The main reason for the fresh probe is that the inquiry report to be prepared by the UN Commission can’t be presented before any court of law as desired by the UN. The government requires a separate investigation report for a proper trial against the criminals in the court”, a senior FIA official had said on August 25 in Rawalpindi, adding that the United Nations report would have no legal standing and it could not be used for prosecution.
When this correspondent tried to take version of Jamia Binoria, Karachi, no responsible person was found. However, the person present there termed the Punjab police-CID report malicious and baseless. Expressing similar sentiments, a person in Madrassa Haqqania, Akora Khattak, said this report is part of the campaign to discredit religious schools.

Interesting article Pakistan "Quite Satisfied" by Nuclear Discussions With U.S.

New Delhi reacted with trepidation to the news that Obama officials were going to listen to Pakistan's nuclear request this week, the Australian reported.
Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna called on Washington to have a "holistic view ... the U.S. should consider Pakistan's track record before any deal."
"We can tell (the U.S.) you're free to go back to your mistress but there will be certain consequences," former Indian Ambassador to the United States Satish Chandra said.

What rhetoric and what was notched up? A measure of the contempt TSP holds India is evident in the manner in which jihadi Gilani asked for "evidence" to prosecute the LET pigs responsible fo Mumbai.V_Raman wrote:am i hallucinating or has MMS really notched up his rhetoric over the last few weeks?
I would have like MMS to have used this occasion to dent this nonsense coming from Masa that India poses a threat to TSP, India must do this, must do that bla bla. He could have said in a press conference that India's battle with terrorists is equally important if not more than US's battle with terrorists. And that India will not entertain appeasing the terroroists attacking India so they take on the terrorists of interest to US.
Finally, if you watched that show hosted by Bakara, US still seems to believe that India suffers from some kind of lover's syndrome and feels jealous at the US TSP love affair. It is MMS's job to disabuse the world of such insulting forumations and instead point out that US's appeasement of TSP cannot be at the expense of sacrificing India's interests in taking on terror. It is this strategic issue of paramount importance that MMS should have emphasized and as you said should have nothced up rhetoric on this count.

Chinese firms boost nuclear threats
Washington Times
Washington Times
Unchecked proliferation by Chinese firms has undermined a global effort to keep nuclear and missile technology out of the hands of terrorists.
A report by the CIA's Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation and Arms Control Center (WINPAC) this year linked Chinese companies to nuclear and missile programs in Pakistan and missile programs in Iran. It said China was a primary supplier of advanced conventional weapons to Pakistan, which it described as China's most important partner in military technology cooperation.
One of the clearest transgressions in this relationship took place in 1995, when state-owned China Nuclear Energy Industry Corp. (CNEIC), a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC), exported 5,000 ring magnets to the A.Q. Khan Research Laboratory in Kahuta, Pakistan.
Mr. Fisher, meanwhile, noted that China's export-control laws came onto the books "years after it had undertaken a large part of its proliferation activities." He contends that China has sold enough nuclear and missile technology to Pakistan, Iran and North Korea to spur secondary proliferation among those states.

http://pitafi.com/Whereas sovereignty over the entire universe belongs to Almighty Allah alone, and the authority to be exercised by the people of Pakistan within the limits prescribed by Him is a sacred trust.” Thus begins the Constitution of the Islamic Democratic Republic of Pakistan. I have read these lines again and again throughout my life and have never been able to divine their meaning. Sovereignty, I take it, is a mundane, human concept. Why do we then need to drag the name of the Almighty into every line that we write? This question takes my imagination to the Almighty Himself. Would He, in his infinite wisdom, really care what these tiny insects crawling on a small blue-green planet write in a constitution that is seldom enforced? I think not. He could have forced us all to spend every single moment of our lives in worship. He could have advised us all to tattoo His name and attributes on our foreheads, but He did not command us to do that. Then why do we have to start the constitution of a republic with words that tell us that we have responsibilities to uphold but no rights whatsoever? That the sovereignty we are so vociferously protecting from Blackwater, and other waters, does not even belong to us?

Okay fellows, if you are interested, this page http://www.un.org/webcast/# has UN webcast. On channel 2, at 5:30pm massa time (Eastern I think) there is a press conference with BB assassination investigators. I have a meeting, so can someone watch and summarize?
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Apr. 11, 2010
The webcast is on now. Heraldo Munoz is coming down like a ton of bricks on Mushy government. He is sparing no words and blames federal government, ISI and Punjab Government. Didnt use diplomatic language at all!! Was fully expecting a few M-cho and B-cho thrown in, based on his tone. Looks very angry and serious.
Has special words to say about Cheema and sunroof lever
and says that this press conference was ordered by Mushy and allegation were made without any basis and hindered investigation. Keeps repeating the words "Brigadier Cheema!! Brigadier Cheema!!"
He says ISI, MI and IB hindered investigation at every point without mincing words. Says there are three aspects.
1. Who did it - which is not his mandate
2. Failure to investigate - which according to him was deliberate. (used the word deliberate)
3. Failure to protect - Says that he cannot categorically call this deliberate, though wishes to note that given that an attempt was already made on her life, the failure to protect was quite surprising.
Other things: The soosai bomber was apparently only 15 years old. And apparently after the attack, the damaged SUV had trouble moving after the blast but her bulletproof Benz backup car drove off and didnt take her to the hospital!! Apparently Rehman Malik and Babar Awan were in the benz and sped off for 20 minutes because they were not "aware that BB was injured in the blast"
(He does point out that even if she wasnt injured in the blast, the Benz would have been needed to take her to safety). He says that pervasively, every Paki investigator was unsure how much to dig, and whether there would be political repercussions if the police investigators dug further. He makes OT observations of the pervasive influence of the "establishment" and "intelligence agencies" in Pakistani society and has a few choice words to say about it. He had a look of surprise and disbelief when he make OT observation that these two are pervasive in Pakistan. Says that during every key evidence collection exercise, ISI was around. Completely trashes the Punjab police claims of arresting the culprits (news article that came out yesterday and was posted in this dhaaga). Says even if they were involved, they are small fry. He says that a total of only 23 pieces of evidence was collected from the crime scene, when thousands should have been collected.
Methinks Mushy's political career is finished after this. He pretty much blames his government, if not for cooperation, atleast for acts of omission. "Very clear to us, Mush govt did not carry out an investigation, not only at the federal level but also at the provincial level." Confirms that US and UK through ISI arranged negotiated with BB

Anujan, thanks for summarizing the UN report. That Mushy should be receiving all this verbiage was a foregone conclusion. He was not part of the solution. He was part of the problem, like he always had been. As I always believed, the BB assassination was a joint operation by the Chaudhries of Gujrat, Mushy, and the ISI. Mushy and the Chaudhries would have been the immediate beneficiaries of the elimination of BB. Or, at least, that was their (mis)calculation. The ISI made use of the suicide bombers and sharp shooters of some Taliban group and conveniently shifted the blame on them. Though the Taliban are not averse to even falsely owning up such acts, Baitullah realized that he had been 'used' up by the ISI and so refused to accept the blame later on.

Benazir Bhutto 'left to mercy of assassins by security chief'
"on the night before the rally, Ms Bhutto had been visited at her residence by the head of the ISI intelligence agency to warn her there was a threat to her life and that she should cancel the meeting in Liaqat Bagh."
If so,that the ISI knew about the plot, why did they not arrest the leaders or sabotage the event? From this report,it is crystal clear that Gen.Musharraf also knew about the plot through the ISI chief and that he also did nothing to stop the eventTherefore, the regime of Gen.Bandicoot is culpable in Benazir's assassination and he and all his cronies in power at the time should be arrested and put on trial in the International Court at the Hague.

Chaudhry Mohummad Aslam, one of Ms Bhutto's protocol officers who was guarding her vehicle when she was shot, said that Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik and current law minister Babar Awan were to blame for security lapses which allowed her killers to strike.
1Ms Bhutto was killed on December 27, 2007 as she left an election campaign rally in Rawalpindi's Liaqat Bagh. She was standing through the sunroof of her Pajero jeep waving to supporters as she left the venue when she was shot through the head by a marksman. She slumped down into the car and died in the arms of her political secretary Naheed Khan. An explosion which followed the gunfire left more than 20 people dead.
Her death convulsed Pakistan and provoked a series of claims that establishment figures, including then president General Musharraf, one of his intelligence chiefs and Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi were part of a conspiracy to kill her. All have denied the claims.
But according to Mr Aslam, who was himself wounded in the bomb blast, Ms Bhutto's killers were able to get close to her because of the sudden departure of Mr Malik and Mr Awan in a private Mercedes reserved as an alternative car for Ms Bhutto. .
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph, Mr Aslam said there was a car was in front of Ms Bhutto's Pajero as she prepared to leave, and that the two ministers commandeered it in breach of protocol rules and ordered the driver to speed to the home of her husband Asif Zardari, now the country's president.
When the police and private security teams saw the car speed away, they followed quickly behind, he said, leaving Ms Bhutto with no security protection.
"Rehman Malik and Babar Awan forced the driver of the Mercedes to leave immediately. When the [motorbike] pilot saw the car was going at full speed, he drove his bike to lead them. The police security squad and private security also followed them. When the Mitsubishi Pajero in which Benazir Bhutto was sitting came out of the gate there was no police, no private security, nothing was there the security thought she was in the Mercedes," he said.
Mr Aslam said he saw laser beams flash past his party leader's car and that she slumped down inside the car as the sound of bullets flew around. An explosion followed the shots, leaving 35 people dead, he said.
He had been just in front of Ms Bhutto's car when a bomb exploded a few metres away. He was seen in television footage at the time sitting bewildered among dead colleagues and stray shoes with an open leg wound.
Fauzia Wahab, the Pakistan Peoples Party's information secretary and a close aide of President Asif Zardari, confirmed that Mr Malik and Mr Awan had left Ms Bhutto behind in Liaqat Bagh. "Once she [Ms Bhutto] was down [from the stage], they grabbed the car and rushed to Mr Zardari's house to welcome her," she said.
She said on the night before the rally, Ms Bhutto had been visited at her residence by the head of the ISI intelligence agency to warn her there was a threat to her life and that she should cancel the meeting in Liaqat Bagh. It is not clear whether Mr Malik, as her head of security, was aware of the threat when he left Ms Bhutto's convoy.

Here is a link from the UK’s Times confirming that today’s (Friday) Quetta attack was indeed a demonstration of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan targeting the minority Shia Muslim sect.Anujan wrote:IED Mubarak in Quetta. Outside a hospital in a procession.
Edit: Apparently Shias were targetted
The IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan took place when people had gathered outside the Hospital emergency ward where the body of a Shia man who was killed in an earlier drive-by shooting had been brought.
For a self proclaimed homeland for South Asia’s Muslim the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is certainly an insecure place for minority Muslim sects:
Suicide bomber kills eight in Pakistan hospital attack
Meanwhile there seems to be something about Friday, the Muslim Sabbath, that seems to frequently bring out a lot of viciousness in some citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
On Friday March 13th, 2010 we had this:
57 killed in Lahore suicide blasts
And earlier on the Friday March 5th 2010 we had this:
Hangu: suicide bomber kills 14, hurt 25
And yet earlier on Friday February 5th 2010 we had this:
Bomb attack targets Shia Muslims in Karachi
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Apr. 11, 2010
Friday noon time is the time a lot of Muslims go for prayers, even if they don't regularly go for namaaz on other days of the week. Those who are more pious can therfore dispatch a large number of less pious to jahannum. Of course, a Muslim won't kill another Muslim, but the less pious are already non-Muslims by virtue of their lesser piety. That's the idea of choosing the Friday. This report opens a can of worms. The official UN report says:Anujan wrote:The report is here: http://www.un.org/News/dh/infocus/Pakis ... il2010.pdf
"The Pakistani military organised and supported the Taliban to take control of Afghanistan in 1996. Similar tactics were used in Kashmir against India after 1989. These policies resulted in active linkages between elements of the military and the Establishment with radical Islamists, at the expense of national secular forces . . .Therefore, a discussion of the threats to Ms Bhutto and of the forces that felt threatened by her potential return to power in Pakistan must include the following: Al-Qaida, Taliban and local jihadi groups and elements of the Establishment."
. . . "The Pakistani military and ISI also used and supported some of these groups in the Kashmir insurgency after 1989. The bulk of the anti-Indian activity was and still remains the work of groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has close ties with the ISI,"
. . . "A common characteristic of these jihadi groups was their adherence to the Deobandi Sunni sect of Islam, their strong anti-Shia bias, and their use by the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies in Afghanistan and Kashmir," . . .
"It was such links and connections between elements in the intelligence agencies and militants, which most concerned Bhutto and many others who believed that the authorities could activate these connections to harm her. Given their clandestine nature, any such connection in an attack on her is very difficult to detect or prove,"
"the ISI cultivated these relationships, initially in the context of the Cold War and the anti-Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980’s and later in support of Kashmiri insurgents. While several Pakistani current and former intelligence officials told the Commission that their agencies no longer had such ties in 2007, virtually all independent analysts provided information to the contrary and affirmed the ongoing nature of many such links."
