^^^ The absence of a sectarian or ethnic motive in today’s demonstration of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan at Kohat is indeed perplexing. You are pretty likely to be correct that this will turn out to be a case of Muslim on Muslim sectarian violence with Sunni Muslim’s taking a swipe at Shia Muslims.

X Posted. Iranian press article reporting among other energy related issues about India sourcing electricity from Iran via an HVDC transmission line running through the Islamic Republic of Pakistan:

Iran, India reach electricity deal

Seems like this scheme reported in the Mint on February 02, 2010 has been resurrected:

Future looks dark for NTPC-Iran 6,000MW project

Ever since the Shahbaz Sharif government took power in the Punjab, they have been deliberately encouraging the activities of the sectarian organizations. Those arrested for terrorism and sectarian violence are being released one after the other from the Punjab jails. The joint election campaign in Jhang of PML-N & SSP and the visit of the Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah to the tomb of Haq Nawaz Jhangvi recently were the signal that the old days are back again in vogue. The recent spurt in sectarian violence is proof of the growing power of SSP & LeJ. Serakistan and Bahwalpur are the emerging FATAs of the Punjab. They are being deliberately nurtured so. Again, the calculation of the PA and the Establishment seems to be that the new wind of violence and terror from South Punjab will only affect the Indians and the non-Sunni Muslims in Pakistan. This is even a tactical miscalculation of the highest order.

Win Some, Lose Some - Ayesha Siddiqa
Pakistan and the US concluded their first round of talks under the auspices of the US-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue in Washington last month.

Did the delegation take anything substantial home?

The highlight of the visit was said to be General Kayani’s PowerPoint presentation, which he made at several places. The Americans seemed impressed with the presentation – and the fact that he operated the slides himself. The crowd did not ask him too many difficult questions

Both Admiral Mike Mullen and General David Petraeus are impressed with General Kayani and believe that Pakistan’s armed forces have taken a U-turn as far as fighting terrorism is concerned. Consequently, the queries were relatively less tough, except at the armed services committee meeting where there were some probing questions to which the Pakistani general responded in his usual nonchalant manner – but he did hold out some verbal assurances.

The army chief seemed to be in charge, with the foreign minister being strategically kept away from the secret parleys at the Pentagon and left to field political questions.

It was not surprising then to see Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani, seemingly changing sides, swinging from Asif Zardari to General Kayani. The army chief, who, otherwise, presents a cold demeanour, was seen warming up to Haqqani, which could be an indicator of the fact that the ambassador has managed to save his job. After all, Haqqani, with his tremendous insights into life on Capitol Hill and his amazing contacts, is a valuable asset. {Really difficult to understand the Pakistanis. This Haqqani guy pretended to be a firm supporter of democracy and an exposer of the PA-jihadi nexus through his writings and speeches. Now, he has changed tack. The same thing happened with BB, Nawaz Sharif et al. No wonder, the PA absolutely rules the country.}

At the end of the day, the writing on the wall was clear: the army chief is in charge of strategic matters and Asif Zardari will now be left to donating his body parts.

SSridhar-ji

Do you remember that youtube clip of Najam Sethi's interview where, when asked about Hussein Haqqani he smiled and said in Urdu, "Well he is a survivor, he has no problems in saluting everyone to keep his job. He would have gone to GHQ, saluted everyone and kept his job safe" and laughed?

Burqa bombers kill 41 at Pakistan camp - AFP
Body parts of the bombers were recovered and most of the victims were members of the Mani Khel and Baramad Khel tribes who had gathered for registration after fleeing fighting in their home district of Orakzai, he said.
“The two tribes raised a lashkar (tribal militia) to fight Taliban in Orakzai,” he said adding that security forces suffered no casualties.
Sridhar ji ,now it appears the attack along with the sectarian angle was a case of collective punishment meted against an erring tribe by the talibunnies. The brits made these laws sanctioning for collective punishment on erring tribes (of NWFP). Now these are implemented by both the pakbarian army and the talibunnies with equal fanatic vigor onlee.

My last post on this as this is the TSP thread. Its not about physical consumption of Iraqi oil alone, although that will be coming too, but the control of oil politics. With Iraq in US pocket, and its oil reserves essentailly under US control, US gets to play a big role in the oil market downstream. Enough said. If you believe gang raping of Iraq by US/UK was with the benign motive of bringing democracy and had nothing to do with oil, we then, I guess we live on different planets :-).

Paranoid about Pakhtun ethnic identity —Farhat Taj
The Pakhtuns are subservient and loyal citizens of Pakistan and yet there is no dearth of fellow Pakistanis who doubt their loyalty to the state the moment they refer to their ethnic identity. They are not even welcomed to celebrate the belated state recognition of their right, i.e. their ethnic identity being reflected in the name of their province. Politicians and news analysts have condemned the ANP for the celebrations. Rana Sanaullah, provincial law minister Punjab, holds the ANP celebrations over the renaming of the province responsible for the protests in Hazara. There are also those who cannot even tolerate the celebrations and have killed tens of Pakhtuns in Timergara by attacking the celebration rally. The media and politicians of Pakistan have forgotten the martyrs of Timergara, but continue to criticise the Pakhtuns who celebrated the renaming. What kind of state-citizens relationship is this where the Pakhtuns cannot even express joy?The ANP has already announced to welcome a separate province in Hazara through constitutional means. Now the PML-N must show the grace to accept the Seraiki demand of a separate province in south Punjab.
I am afraid peace is not going to come to the Pakhtun land as along as our fellow Pakistanis in Punjab are caught up in fear of the Pakhtun identity. They have to get rid of their paranoia for a durable peace in Pakistan

My last world on this, less than 3% import of Iraqi oil and 97% from other sources (80% from non middle east sources) does not support your claim.

The demonstrations of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan by burqa clad suicide bombers at a registration centre for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Kacha Pakha area of Kohat has been claimed as targeting Shia Muslims by the Punjabi Taliban outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami.

Residing in an Islamic Republic supposedly claimed to have been created to provide a safe haven for the Muslims of the Indian Sub-Continent apparently carries no reasonable guarantee of safety of life and limb if one happens to belong to a minority sect of Islam like the Shiite:

See this report in DT
The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s Al-Aalmi group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the bombings, and cited the presence of Shias at the IDP camp as the reason for the attack.
From the link posted by 'arun' above,
A dreaded militant organisation of Punjabi Taliban, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami, has claimed responsibility for the two consecutive suicide attacks in Kohat.

“We claim responsibility for the two Fidayee (suicide) attacks in Kohat. The Shia community was in fact our target that our two Fidayeen (suicide bombers) achieved,” explained a caller, who introduced himself as Usman Haider, a spokesman for the outlawed outfit.

Today’s vehicular borne suicide attack on the Police Station in Kohat completes a hat trick of demonstrations of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan.

On Friday there was this demonstration of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan in a Quetta Hospital:

11 killed in Quetta hospital suicide blast

That was followed on Saturday by this demonstration of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan by burka clad bombers targeting an internally displaced persons (IDPs) refugee camp in the Kacha Pakha area once again of Kohat:

Taliban chief Omar ready for talks: UK paper
The supreme leader of the Taliban, Mullah Mohammed Omar, has indicated that he and his followers may be willing to hold peace talks with western politicians.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, two of the movement’s senior Islamic scholars have relayed a message from the Quetta shura, the Taliban’s ruling council, that Mullah Omar no longer aims to rule Afghanistan. They said he was prepared to engage in "sincere and honest" talks.

I might have been as sanguine as you had Sohail Tanvir said “Christianon ki zahaniyat hi aisi hai” , but then he did not. He specifically said “Hinduon”.

My sense is that GOI and IPL, as suggested by Sridhar in his post diectly above this post, will put on a stiff secular upper lip, dish out absolution and leave us to see a lot more of Sohail Tanvir.

^^^I differ on that Sohail Tanvir fiasco. Much as desi sekulars would love to gift forgiveness to Tanvir's holy backside, his righteous words have left his holy mouth and ended up on youtube and lawd knows how many HDDs.

When the time comes, they will be pulled up, presented and playbacked for the benefit of any sekularist franchise owners who may entertain fond thoughts of enlisting this holy toad. Too juicy a sensational story for our aajtaks and timesnow types to give a miss to, regardless of what spin they choose to put on it.

The web cuts both ways. Film cuts brutally besides. Ask ND Tiwari. Holy words are now out in cyberspace. Ablution, even escape won't be that easy anymore. Or so I hope.

Hari Seldon has a very valid point. This creep has recorded his sweet voice on tape for all to hear and enjoy.

The media and gobernment types are sekoolarists and might believe in forgive and forget onlee, but mango junta, and the upholders of the moral fabric and balancers, in this case the hindutva brigade, will ensure that his goose is cooked as far as chances in IPL are concerned.

No IPL walla is going to touch him.

The sekoolarists need to be balanced at times, and the hindutva brigade does a fine job of that.

KKR with SRK as the team manager! Perish the thought. SRK is not that crazy. SRK will not touch that idiot. SRK is all about sekoolarism, and a muslim abusing hindus is one thing that he will NOT tolerate - at least someone as busted as Tanveer.

Musharraf may sue UN panel that looked into Bhutto murder: Aide
Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf may sue members of the UN commission that probed the assassination of ex-premier Benazir Bhutto for holding him responsible for her killing, one of his aides has said.

"In the report, Musharraf has not been accused personally but it has been mentioned that his government failed to protect Benazir Bhutto," Chaudhry Fawad, a lawyer for Musharraf, told 'The News' daily.

During a news conference, a member of the UN commission mentioned Musharraf's name while responding to a question.
If I understand correctly most of the threats to sue at least in India go unexercised. Wonder what happens in Pakistan. Oho, he is not in Pakistan. Well I hope when in UKStan he does like UKStanian.

See http://forums.bharat-rakshak.com/viewto ... 11#p857811 - apparently they were trained in "Al Qaeda" camps in Afghanistan - which could mean with people like Ilyas Kashmiri and David Headley. That is not implausible, IMHO. Pak was involved, but it would not be surprising if UK-US agencies were also aware of what was happening.

The problem with mushy was always his bluster. That was a result of him utilizing his musharraf for thinking (or not thinking before acting). Thus we had strategic brilliancy like Kargil, media grandstanding that fell flat on its face as in Agra, and now this.

Fat chance he is going to sue the UN! The UN investigation team will come out with why the said so and so, and rest assured, THAT is what mushy doesn't want. :rotfl:

Everyone knows who killed the daughter of the Beast and why. Mushy is just grandstanding. Unfortunately he shaves daily otherwise someone will point out "chor ki dadhi mein tinka"
