If Poak Head Zardari wont travel to London , who will carry the begging bowl to beg Kuffar money.

Death toll in Pakistan floods hits 800
Reporting from Islamabad, Pakistan — As the death toll from this week's flash floods rose to at least 800 Saturday, authorities tried desperately to rescue thousands of stranded villagers and deliver emergency relief to stricken areas.
The country's hardest-hit region was the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the record-breaking monsoon rains had trapped at least 26,700 people on the roofs of buildings and mud huts.

By a general rule of thumb one could multiply it by 10. So that gives a figure of 8000.

We had discussed this but people ignored this.

1965 was supposed to be beginning of the end of India as it was. The British system of rupee which was used in most of the Indian ocean region was changed to a dollar based system. ME countries started earning money in petro dollars when the oil barrel was $2 in the international market. India without any support from major countries was faced with major wars in the 60s. The wars- 1961,1962,1965,1967,1971 - five wars in 10 years is a lot for a developing country just out of independence.

India, poor with huge populations was supposed to be completely crippled under its problems leading to revolution and change in govt. They waited until 1975 to instigate strikes and general anarchy in India which triggered emergency. A movement was created to target IG which peaked in 1984. Then they tried social revolution and also media based campaign against Indians in the international scene. PRC and Pakistan was provided with enough resource to grow and dominate the economic and military area from 1980 to 1997. They got confident to challenge India resulting in India going nuclear in 1998. Rest is history.

The short answer is 1965. This brief, pointless war, needlessly provoked by Pakistan, destabilised Ayub Khan’s government, and set in motion a chain of events that had far-reaching consequences that haunt us still. Without getting into the causes leading up to this military disaster, I do see it as a hinge moment in our history.

The rise of the middle east was planned after 1965 war which was a event to show the Muslim countries that they are superior and will be successful countries. Pakistan was to shown as the model country and was to become like South Korea

Vir Sanghvi is correct in his analysis that the increasingly powerful and educated Urban Indian middle class is staunchly against talking with TSP as of now given their devious agenda against India. MMS has to change his line and foreign policy initiate wrt to TSP or risk being isolated on this issue by the Educated Indian as well as within his own Party.

Another thing which I never understood is how on earth is pece with TSP a necessity for India to achieve its full potential. Did the United States not emerge as the only superpower in the world after an intense 60 year long Cold war with a Giant like the USSR and the looming threat of imminent nuclear war. During the period they used a combination of Rapid Economic growth , aggresive foreign policy and Extensive military build up to expadite their way to the top.

Here, we are only talking of a puny TSP which lives on borrowed money , is almost always on the brink of disaster and looked down upon by the civilized world. Surely we can brush them aside if we show a little initiative and MMS not insist on his lovemaking agenda with TSP.

2 out of the 3 above stated dimension are in place for India in the form of Economic growth and fast increasing military capability, what lacks is an aggresive foreign policy.

Unkil: we are investing in Af-Pak because we have selfish motives

US Admits Investments In Pakistan Driven By Selfish Motives
“A – kind of a zero-sum mentality that we think is – cannot be the equation in the region,” PJ Crowley said, adding, “We are investing in Pakistan because it’s in the United States’ interest to do so.”

Crowley continued, “We have a presence in Afghanistan because it is our interest to do so. We are working cooperatively across the region, including with India, because ultimately, these are countries that have to live together and find stable relationships that serve their own interest and a collective interest.”

And I was listening to NPR this morning, and knowing Pakijabi RAPE, they must be furious at Allah on this latest flood, he spared India; because all the news reports say "South Asian" floods, but they talk of only TSP and Afganisthan. One report on NPR talked about how bad the situation in TSP is; once again no equal equal. The report went on to say US is provdiing life-saving boats, and up to 50,000 meals. Now WTF does 50,000 meals mean :-)? And to add further insult to Pakijabi H&D, the NPR report said 50,000 meals are not enough; more meals are needed but no menition of any drones, no f-solas etc for flood rescue operations that Pakijabis badly need :-).

There's a beautiful equivalent in Tamil.

"Naaya kulippaatti nadu veetla vechaalum, adhoda buddhi *** thinna dhaan pogum"

Even if you bathe a dog and keep him in the middle of the house, its thought will go back to eating musharaff-output.

Airblue black box found
A seven-member investigation team of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), accompanied by a five-member French team, supervised the search for the black box at the crash site. The black box was found from the bulkhead of the crashed plane. French experts had suggested that the black box of the doomed Airbus A321 was located in the bulkhead.

Interestingly, CAA officials could not identify the black box once it was recovered from the wreckage. “They did not know that it was the black box. The French experts identified it,” said a police official who participated in the digging work. “Had there been no French experts, our aviation officials would have not been able to identify the black box,” he added. The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of the plane, which records conversation between a captain and his co-pilots, was also recovered from the site.

The CAA officials said the two devices would be sent to France for interpretation of data since Pakistan does not have the facility to decode the black box.

Dara Shikoh: still persecuted

History heads the list of disciplines that have been grossly exploited and abused worldwide, but its treatment in this region has been especially brutal. Historians served the rulers or their own prejudices and in both cases, truth and justice became the primary casualty. Historical narratives wilfully misrepresented some personages and to add insult to injury, this went hand in hand with the glorification of the most undeserving and iniquitous individuals.

Dara Shikoh, Emperor Shah Jahan’s heir apparent, has been undeservedly maligned or entirely neglected by historians who found the cruel and bigoted Aurangzeb and marauders before him as true icons of manliness representing, according to them, true Islamic glory and grandeur. Accused of apostasy, he was murdered on August 30, 1659 by his brother Aurangzeb.

He patronised fine arts, music and dancing, which were frowned upon by Aurangzeb. His paintings compare well to professional artists of his time. He commissioned several exquisite examples of Mughal architecture, notable among them the tomb of his wife Nadira Bano and the tomb of Hazrat Mian Mir, a famous Qadri sufi saint whose follower he was, also in Lahore.

His most famous work, Majma-ul-Bahrain (‘The mingling of the two seas’), was devoted to the mystical and pluralistic affinities between sufic and Vedantic speculation. Dara Shikoh championed cultural interaction among people of all faiths. Quintessentially a liberal, he understood the need for harmonious coexistence of heterodox traditions on the Indian subcontinent and as such he presented a serious threat to orthodoxy. Dara was not just an individual; he represented a world outlook that bigotry detests. The elite have invariably supported bigotry and Dara’s agony continues unabated, but the struggle continues.

Ajoka Theatre deserves credit for initiating the historical rehabilitation of Dara. I was graciously invited to the play’s recent presentation in Karachi. ‘Dara’ is exceptionally well written and directed by Nadeem Shahid and extremely ably acted out by the entire cast. It keeps the audience riveted for over two hours with its powerful dialogues, excellent music, a wonderful mix of Amir Khusro’s and Sarmad’s poetry, flawless choreography, enchanting lighting effects and seamless stage management, and all this with minimum props. It is a political and social statement, which needs to be supported for its implications for efforts to recognise and understand history in its proper perspective. Ajoka, in its effort to challenge the existing social and political norms, has faced a lot of opposition, including a ban on one of its plays, but commendably it has shown courage under fire.

Dara, born in 1615 AD, was to succeed Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan was not an epitome of generosity and benevolence that his buildings like Taj Mahal would symbolise. He was cruel and unforgiving. Shah Jahan’s sudden illness in 1657 triggered a war of succession between his offspring. Though he recovered enough from his illness to remain a strong factor in the struggle for supremacy, Aurangzeb at the battlefield of Samugarh defeated Dara, 13 kilometres from Agra on May 30, 1658.

Aurangzeb then deposed Emperor Shah Jahan on June 8, 1658 and incarcerated him at Agra fort. His eldest daughter Jahan Ara Begum chose to stay with him. He died aged 74 after a confinement of seven and a half years on January 22, 1662. Aurangzeb never forgave him for supporting Dara. He was buried by eunuchs and menial servants beside his beloved Mumtaz Mahal.

Defeated, Dara went to Gujarat and then to Sindh but was betrayed and handed over to Aurangzeb. He was brought to Delhi and paraded through the streets in chains. This inflamed the people who attacked some courtiers. Fearing a people’s rebellion, Aurangzeb summoned a convocation of spineless nobles and clergy that expediently declared Dara as an apostate from Islam. He was beheaded on the night of August 30, 1659. His popularity among the people and the threat that he posed to Aurangzeb’s bigotry had decided his fate.

Sarmad, the naked mystic poet, who had a huge following among the people of Delhi, would come to Dara. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, in his biography of Sarmad, quotes a pro-Aurangzeb historian Sher Khan Lodhi, the author of Mirath-ul-Khayal, “Sultan Dara Shikoh had an affinity for mad people so he became friends with Sarmad.” Maulana comments that “he (Lodhi) does not know that there is a set of scales in which this madness would outweigh all the wisdom in the world”, adding that “anyway he (Maulana) prefers the madness of Dara over Alamgiri wisdom, which is tainted with the blood of innocents”. He adds, “Dara was probably fed up with the pernicious wisdom of the likes of Aurangzeb that he preferred the company of Sarmad.” Sarmad too suffered the same fate as Dara, but more on Sarmad in another piece.

Maulana also says: “Dara Shikoh had a unique mind and temperament and all should forever mourn the unfortunate day when his enemies triumphed.” Maulana Abul Kalam understood that Aurangzeb’s victory meant the supremacy of intolerance and bigotry, not only in its immediate aftermath, but also the ominous implications for the future of the region and religion. It was for this reason that he minced no words while presenting Aurangzeb, though a hero for others, in his true colours. It should be understood that the day Aurangzeb succeeded, the die was cast for eventual ascendancy of the bigoted ideology.

History’s false and biased version has fully been exploited for the ulterior motive of strengthening the elite’s hold over all facets of life and implementing their version of Islam. To add to the woes, this distorted history has been made the staple diet of all students since 1947 and has had the expected results. Those who are surprised at the intensity of the bigotry and intolerance that is the hallmark of all relationships in our society should take a closer look at the way history has been presented and revisit the deeds of all who have been projected as heroes of Islamic history.

History, true or fabricated, moulds attitudes, sets values and creates mindsets. The potential of it being instrumental in moulding mindsets has been used in a sinister manner by our rulers and they have created Aurangzebs in their millions. People emulating Aurangzeb certainly cannot be expected to be benevolent to their Daras. And Daras will remain persecuted as long as fabricated history reigns supreme.

Floods coming down to Sindh
Officials said that 1,000,000 cusecs water are expected to reach Guddu Barrage on the midnight of August 3, and will flow on to Sukkur Barrage and then pass through Kotri Barrage on August 10.

According to engineer Khero, gates to all canals forking off the Sukkur Barrage will be closed down. Meanwhile, all 66 gates of the barrage will be opened up so that the flood water can flow downstream. Many of these protective embankments have eroded over time because of low water levels. The engineer explained that people kept stealing mud from the banks, which also weakens these embankments.

The Sindh government was informed two days ago about flooding and rising levels in the Tarbela and Mangla dams. The two rivers that Punjab uses for irrigation, the Chenab and Jehlum, also have low levels of flooding. When Sindh’s apparatus met, officials assessed that about 900,000 cusecs of water will be flowing this way and precautionary measures will have to be taken.

Nightwatch on the Pew Research poll:
Pakistan: The Pew Research Center's Global Attitudes Project released a poll yesterday (29 July) on various Pakistani attitudes, based on a limited primarily urban sample taken in April 2010. A summary of the findings follows.

- An overwhelming number of Pakistanis polled continue to have a negative view of the United States (68 percent);

- A majority of Pakistanis (53 percent) see India as the greatest threat to the country, over the Taliban (23 percent) and al-Qaida (3 percent).

Much like last year's Pew survey, the majority of Pakistanis polled say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the country, citing terrorism, crime, and a lack of jobs as very big issues.

According to the findings, "Pakistani Muslims overwhelmingly welcome Islamic influence over their country's politics. Nearly nine-in-ten (88 percent) of those who see Islam playing a large role say that is a good thing."

Many Muslims in Pakistan say there is a struggle between groups that want to modernize their country and Islamic fundamentalists (44 percent), and of those who see a struggle, most identify with the modernizers (61 percent).

However, an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis polled said they would favor making gender segregation in the workplace a law in the country (85 percent), as well as punishments like whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery (82 percent), and stoning people who commit adultery (82 percent).

According to one expert, when many Pakistanis think of "modernizing" their country, they think primarily in terms of economic development and technology -- both of which can comfortably coexist alongside conservative religious attitudes." They want air conditioners and corporal punishment. They see no inconsistency in the two positions, except that they want the best of both worlds for themselves and their families and not necessarily for others.

In the last 2 days I have read 2 articles that answer the question "Whose side is Pakistan on?" with the answer "Pakistan is on Pakistan's side"

The first article was by Irfan Hussein ("Supping with the Taliban") where he says that the Pakistani army and ISI are somehow being forced to be in bed with the Taliban (Haqqani and Mullah Omar) because they wil definitely come to power in Afghanistan once the US leaves and that the US is due to leave sooner or later.

The second article (Newsweek: "How Pakistan helps the Taliban") suggests that the Taliban are totally under Pakistani control.

In a third article (Politics of Taliban Reconciliation - by Bhadrakumar) there is a statement that the US is building a huge military base in Mazhar e Sharif, and pairs that info with the Afghanistan Pakistan supply route agreement indicating its intention to stay long term.

So the picture is (to me) a bit fuzzy. The only thing that has come out into the open is what we all knew - i.e that Pakistan is not 100% on the side of the US in this game.

If that is so, then what is the US paying Pakistan for? Is there some deep cooperation from the Pakistan army that we do not know about? If such cooperation is being bought, it certainly does not seem to be fighting the Taliban or stopping terrorism. Pakistan is being paid despite that. What are they giving in exchange? Just transit facilities?

I dont know what pouring faster in pakistan, rains or foreign aid?

EU gives $39m in aid to Pakistan
BRUSSELS: The European Union (EU) has given 30 million euros (about $39 million) in aid to Pakistan so it could help the most needy, including those hit by the current floods in the country, a media report said.
TSPA can easily buy 1 bandaar for that price from dong fang company and then drop some cluster bombs as alternateive to packaged meals since that will make abduls dance with joy

Coming to think of it more unkil should modify droneacharya to carry 1 narakfire and 4 meal packets at the same time. So that way jehadis who come to recover the body of their kin who has gone to meet his 72 can enjoy some shraddh food here on earth :rotfl:

However, till late Saturday evening, the Foreign Office had not put out any details of the U.K. visit as is wont though Mr. Zardari heads off on Sunday for France and from there to U.K. The Foreign Office is apparently caught between demands for a forceful response including cancelling the President's visit and Mr. Zardari's own insistence on proceeding with the schedule which includes launching his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman in Birmingham. {Zardari will be forced by the PA to cancel or at least make it as a personal trip}

Commenting on Mr. Cameron's observations while addressing a gathering in Sargodha, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani wondered why his British counterpart had been silent in India about human rights violations in “Indian Occupied Kashmir” by the Indian armed forces. “It would have been better if he had talked about the issue there and won hearts of the Pakistanis,” Mr. Gilani was reported as stating by the Associated Press of Pakistan.

After considerable deliberations, Pakistan has also decided to seek an explanation from the British High Commissioner here. This was disclosed by Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Meanwhile, other political parties have also joined the chorus. Coalition partner of the PPP-led federal government, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), and principal opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), leaders said Mr. Zardari should cancel his U.K. visit. {Mr. Altaf Hussain can set an example by leaving the UK and returning to the Land of the Purest}

Describing Mr. Cameron's statement as “lamentable”, the MQM chief Altaf Hussain — who lives in London — is reported to have said that Mr. Zardari should review his U.K. visit; adding that Pakistan has made many sacrifices in the war on terror. Similar views were expressed by Punjab Chief Minister and PML(N) leader Shahbaz Sharif.

What has peeved Pakistan the most is that Mr. Cameron made such a comment in India. This was made clear by Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit on Thursday when he said these statements could have been avoided; especially in India.

The photo along with that news item is interesting because we hardly get to see the 120 million rural folks of Pakistan. The woman has fear written on her face. Does the man have a hint of a smirk on his face?

She almost looks like my aunt (bhua ) in terms of features etc. Only difference unfortunately is she has the one and only one oppurtunity and that is giving more sooi bummers where as my aunt watches each and every Telugu movie and all crappy TV serials.

No point in making these resemblences as they are all central asian nature and they drifted so far away in the rot that they did not create and probably they don't even know that they are in rot.

How did they find out he was the Son of Soil, Child of immortal Bliss and not the member of alien ideology currently polluting that sacred land ?

Paaki viewpoint
Excerpt from the NYT article by Mohammed Hanif on the India obsession of the military of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan:
Pakistan’s military-security establishment has only one ideology, and it’s not Islamism. It’s spelled I-N-D-I-A. It will do anybody’s bidding if it’s occasionally allowed to show India a bit of muscle.

X Posted from the Pakistani Role in Global terrorism thread.

The Islamic Terrorism fomenting ways of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

District Governor of Nad-e-Ali, Helmand Province, Habibullah Shamalany:

"It is Pakistan that trains, funds and leads them. When we capture their fighters they confess that they are trained in Pakistan. The Pakistanis find religious boys, give them weapons, and send them across the border into Afghanistan to kill us, and to kill your British soldiers."

Lieutenant-Colonel Lincoln Jopp of the British Army:

"We do encounter some evidence of Pakistani involvement in the insurgency in Helmand,"

Read it all in the UK’s Telegraph:

Helmand despatch: 'Pakistan is the true enemy'
