Major railway mishap averted in Kannur (Malabar).....
http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_dis ... p+Averted+
The driver’s presence of mind averted a major railway tragedy that would have occurred with the collision of Netravathi Express arriving from Kannur to Mangalore.
It is learnt that some unknown miscreants damaged the railway signal point near Kannur railway station using stones and it is suspected that the act was done so that the signal wouldn’t be available and the trains would collide.
Fortunately, the driver sensing that something was wrong when the signal was vague as the train crossed Calicut nearing Kannur Railway Station stopped the train. Then he immediately informed about the same to the Railway Security Force officials who on investigation found that the 64 number signal had been damaged. Soon they alerted and repaired it making way for the smooth movement of train.
In a similar incident that was reported two months ago, the signal at Kannur South Railway Station too was destroyed calling for tight security.
This area is pretty much in the heart of the caliphate.....

actually Kannur is a contested area. The heart of the "caliphate" is very much mallapuram.

Sohrab case key-accused's U-turn to hit BJP's Shah
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/sohra ... ah/651868/In a shot in the arm for CBI, N K Amin, a former police officer and an accused in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, today decided to turn approver that could spell more trouble for Gujarat's jailed former minister Amit Shah, a key accused.
"We are going to file an application in the CBI court on behalf of Amin to turn him into an approver in the (Sohrabuddin) case," Amin's lawyer Jadgish Ramani said while emerging out of the CBI office in Gandhinagar.
The decision of Amin, a former deputy superintendent of police, came a day after an elusive Shah, who was the minister of state for home, was arrested and sent to jail. All the 15 accused faced charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and extortion.

Sohrabuddin encounter: Action sought against Andhra cops
The fact that 3 states coordinated their actions to get rid of him shows the kind of guy he was... If this trend continues, we may reach 3 figure IPS level officers prosecuted for the "great martyr" Sohrabuddin...
With the arrest of Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah in connection with the Sohrabuddin fake encounter, the heat is on for some officials in the Hyderabad police department.
In a letter written to Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi [ Images ], the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee has claimed that many officers in the Hyderabad police department had provided logistical support for the encounter.
The letter says that the Hyderabad police had even halted traffic on the Hyderabad-Mumbai highway to ensure that the operation to nab Sohrabuddin was conducted smoothly.
The letter, which quotes the statements of the witnesses and the accused, states that in November 2005, Gujarat IPS officer Raj Kumar Pandian had visited Hyderabad to conduct a series of meetings with counter-intelligence, special task force and city police officials.
The AP police allegedly arranged for cars for the Gujarat police team to follow Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi, who were traveling in a bus to Mumbai [ Images ] from Hyderabad. Minutes before the operation, traffic was stopped along the highway for a couple of hours so that the bus could be intercepted at a lonely location.
The police team reportedly took Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi to a farmhouse in Gujarat, where they were killed and their bodies were disposed of. The Gujarat police later claimed that Sohrabuddin was a Lashkar-e-Tayiba [ Images ] operative who was killed in an encounter.
Pandian, during interrogations, stated that seven officials of the AP police were present at the time of the operation. They had even visited the Anti-Terrorism Squad office in Gujarat in connection with the case.

Kerala CM unfazed: stands-by his PFI remarks
Unfazed by criticism from the Opposition and Muslim outfits, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today stood by his remarks that radical outfit Popular Front of India was aiming at "Islamisation of Kerala". The veteran CPI(M) leader told the Assembly that he stood by what he had said on PFI and attempts to misinterpret it as a remark targeting the Muslim community as a whole is meant to spread misunderstanding.
Achuthanandan said his intention was to expose the "subversive activities" of PFI and his statement was based on evidence recovered by police during the probe into the chopping off of the hand of lecturer T J Joseph.
"We (CPI-M) are firm in opposing the Sangh parivar outfits like RSS and Bajrang Dal. Could anybody interpret it as an attack on Hinduism or the entire Hindu community?" he asked.
On the attack by Congress and its ally Indian Union Muslim League over his statement, he said, "I am at a loss to know as to why they are getting worried when I sought to expose the nefarious activities by a miniscule group in the name of religion."
Describing PFI as just another version of the Sangh Parivar, he said "the politics of violence" indulged in by the Hindu outfit in Gujarat and other parts had come to light with more evidence these days.
The effort of the LDF government was to root out the extremist and communal forces and the intention of his statement was to give a warning to the people and democratic forces about the dangers posed by PFI, he said. The content of pamphlets seized during the raids on the offices of PFI were "highly communal" and challenged the democratic set-up with some of their literature even advocating rejection of democracy holding that "Islam and democracy" are two opposite ideologies, he said.
The PFI pamphlets said it would be difficult for the Muslims in India to gain majority in Parliament, but no force could prevent installation of an Islamic rule in the country if hard work was put up to secure this goal, he said. Despite the Chief Minister's clarification, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy demanded withdrawal of the statement arguing it amounted to insulting the entire Muslim community. {Mr. Chandy has to respond to the CM's questions.}
He, however, offered the Opposition's support to the government in suppressing PFI's "subversive" activities.
Re: Internal Security Watch
The only problem is of course that in north malabar they are not a miniscule minority...
Re: Internal Security Watch
Can you imagine the NDTV/CNNIBN/TOI etc outrage had this been said by a BJP CM - we would never hear the end of it and it would be 'breaking news' for days to come.

And the "silent majority" (I like this word - can claim majority while taking no responsibility) is comfortable with the dilution of constitution. One fine day the sh*t will hit the fan and a new era dawns

And by that time, they would have gotten rid of all true secular leaders and people who could help them in that situation.
The problem has always been that true nationalists in India have been slowly sidelined(Patel, Bose, Rao, Shourie, Modi etc.) whereas the 2 bit chamchas live in Golf Links, Malabar and Banjara Hills.

No complaint on Taliban-style courts yet: Kerala Home Minister
The Kerala Government must not wait for complaints. Such complaints may never come because of fear. Mr. Kodiyeri must really raise the red flag and take suo motu action based on press reports. The police have, so far, not received any complaint on the functioning of ‘Taliban-model' courts in Kerala, State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a submission by Aryadan Mohammed (Congress), Mr. Balakrishnan said the police was, however, keeping close tabs on the activities of organisations such as the Popular Front of India that were reported to have organised parallel courts called ‘Dar ul Khada' in different parts of the State. The police had so far received such information only from media reports, he said.

Re: Internal Security Watch
Some more information on the Parallel Courts of PFI
He said that as per information, the cases which came up before these religious courts were mostly of family disputes, border disputes, property disputes and cases relating to a particular community.
He also announced a probe into the functioning of these courts. Appropriate legal action would be taken if these courts were found to be violating the law of the land. {No sir, these 'courts' simply cannot exist. Period.}
Kodiyeri said that as per information, the Popular Front of India (PFI) had 20 feeder organisations. The PFI claimed that a committee under Imams Council, one of its feeder organisations, was functioning to resolve personal disputes of the community with the recognition of the Muslim Personal Law Board. Kodiyeri said that parallel courts could not be allowed in Democracy.
He said that ‘Darul Huda’ was inaugurated last year in Malappuram district by All- India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Secretary Maulana Wali Rahman.

An interesting observation that I once read - India is not secular because it's constitution says so..it is secular because the vast majority is secular and the day this majority decided to give back in the same coin....no one will be able to stop the bloodbath.
I hope we don't reach this stage...but the way things are being handled, there might be blow back sooner than later.

Re: Internal Security Watch
When I hear the whines of the Kerala Home Minister, it is just getting more convincing that Kerala communists do not have the where withal to resist RoP fanatics whose penchance for violence is reknown. The commies as I said can target RSS activitists and the poor Kerala policemen and break their heads as part of the revolution. The Chief Minister being the old die-hard communist spoke his mind out, the last time I heard some thing similar was when A.K Antony was the then CM. He too opined that the organised minority communities are taking the unorganised majority folks for a jolly good ride. He pretty much lost his chair for that.
These "Darul Khudas" may be very much existing and doling out mafia justice. The Kerala HM can wait for eternity for some one to give a written complaint (with copies in triplicate). Honestly, I feel it is the PDP and NDF who did a mistake of chopping of the professor's hands. Because of that alarm bells started ringing and the present HM and his police pals were forced to take some action. If that had not happen, PDP and NDF could have continued their nefarious activities without any checks.

SoKo only has EJs, we have 3 fronts internally, the MMM brigade. Besides, from a post on the UK dhaaga about Japanese society & its retention of local culture, this struck me as weird that Japan & SoKo both underwent hell during WW2 & Korean War resp. Both came under unkil's influence, EJs would have definitely landed on the Japanese shores like they did in SoKo, yet how is it that SoKo is fast on its way to becoming an EJ hellhole while Japan seems to have survived the onslaught? Can we learn from Japan? Does the Japanese govt. intervene to clip the EJs wings? Does the society at large ostracize the EJs & their converts? Japan doesn't encourage immigration, is that the key? So would purging the illegals & shutting down the border work for India (of course we all know about the probability of that happening)?

the accused have been identified as Kulwant Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Jagtar Singh, Darshan Singh Dhadi and French citizen Pal Singh.
After Kulwant's arrest, he spilled the beans and revealed Narain and Pal Singh's plan for revival of terrorism in Punjab. The SP said, "Pal Singh is a French national and has lived there since long.
He had visited Pakistan as part of jathas in 1989, 1998 and 2002 and met terrorists there. He was given the job of recruiting unemployed youth and later using them for terrorist organisations.

A teacher says no to burqa in a West Bengal Muslim university, isn’t allowed to teach
“There are eight women teachers at the university. It was decided through consulation that the women will observe purdah, and most teachers agreed. Only this lady has a problem,” Ali said, adding that they were ready to welcome Middya back as long as she adhered to the “decent” dress code.
The university has chosen to play safe, putting the issue on the backburner and hoping it dies down.
“This is a stray incident... we tried to nip the problem in the bud. There is no dress code in our university. Since there was a problem, we asked the teacher to report to the Salt Lake campus,” said Vice-Chancellor Syed Shamshul Alam.
The university was set up in 2008 by upgrading the famous Calcutta Madrasah which was started in 1781 by Warren Hastings, Governor General of Bengal. One of the oldest centres of higher learning and culture in the country, the institution has had many eminent scholars in its ranks. Aliah University was expected to harmonise tradition and modernity, and while its Islamic cources are run in the Calcutta Madrasah building, the other academic activities are conducted on different campuses at Salt Lake.
Middya joined Aliah University after an M.A. in Bengali from Jadavpur University. Having refused to kow-tow to the union, she has been unable to go to Aliah’s Calcutta Madrasah campus, and reports to the university’s library at Salt Lake. “Without taking any classes, I am given the full prescribed salary by the university,” said Middya.
“Most of the teachers do not like the diktat of the students to wear burqa. But they have no option but to accept it. This is Talibanisation of educational premises and there is no one to our rescue,” she said.
Prior to this episode, Aliah University had faced another row when the students’ union held protests demanding that the word “madrasah” be added to its name.

SDPI plans marches
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) will organise ‘people's marches' from August 2 to 6 demanding that the “oppressed in the State should not be denied democratic rights.”
....
However, he alleged, the police and the government were trying to portray parties like the SDPI as terrorist groups.
The local vernacular press also has reports in which NDF head-honchos are now ranting against the Intelligence Bureau
. It seems the entire plan behind raids, preperation of leaflets with inflamatory messages etc. seems to be cooked by IB.
Kerala's communal situation alarming: Dr. Panikkar
Historian K.N. Panikkar has said there has been no serious thinking at the intellectual and political levels on the reversal of the secular traditions of the State over the past few years.
....
While irrational allegiance to the ideas of one's religion without applying logic was a cause of religious fundamentalism, religious extremism also emerged as a weapon against the imperialist interventions in the Muslim world, he said.
I am currently reading a book authored by this very historian in which the idea was to justify the 1921 Mopillah Riots as a riot for freedom from the British and exploitation. The book has sections after sections in which atrocities committed by Muslims are said to be not religiously motivated or were revenge taken for some previous insults. I am taking too much time to read this book as some of his justifications makes me puke and spoil the whole home.
1. Look out notices have been issued for two more chaps wanted for the Professor's Hand chopping incident. They have been declared as proclaimed offenders. The police is planning to wait for the mandatory one month period before seizing their movable and immovable property.
2. Allegations are now floating around that the investigations have lost their speed, and about pressure from all corners to get the case moving with the current set of arrested people (and not to follow up on the remaining lot).

Tribune Punjab: BKI roped in arrested youths online
Make the border more secure, pleads Punjab
ANDKhanna, July 30
The terrorist outfit, Babbar Khalsa International, used YouTube to rope in three youngsters, recently arrested in Shingar cinema blast case along with their mastermind Harminder Singh.
The police said BKI workers came across a video of the three youths on YouTube. Three accused Jaswinder Singh of Rajpura, Manjinder Singh of Hussainpura village and Gurjant Singh of Jangpura village got injured while protesting against Ashutosh of the Divya Jyoti Jagran Sansthan in Ludhiana in December 2009.
“Their photographs, videos and contact numbers were uploaded on the website through which terrorist outfits in Germany, England and Pakistan contacted them. First, money worth lakhs poured in for them following which the BKI contacted the three youths over phone several times and instigated them to plant bombs at Shingar cinema in Ludhiana,” the officials said.
The same accused were roped in to conduct blasts in Ambala on April 13 and on April 21 near Sat Narain Mandir in Patiala. Fortunately, not many got injured in these incidents, a senior police official said. He said there was no specific motive behind these blasts; it was just aimed at creating disharmony, panic and disrupting peace.
During the investigation, the three arrested accused admitted to have received money worth lakhs from political and religious leaders (in India and abroad) immediately after receiving injuries during the protest in Ludhiana. However later, they allegedly received money with explosives from Harminder Singh. Harminder handed over the latest haul of explosives to these youths at Rajpura in March.
They also received funds to contest the coming SGPC elections and were confident of becoming members of the Sikh body. Meanwhile, SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann said the police would soon present a challan in court.
Make the border more secure, pleads Punjab
Alarmed at increased militant activities in the state, Punjab is pleading with the Centre to plug the international border with Pakistan ‘more effectively’.
Seizures of narcotics, arms, fake currency, point out senior officials, have all gone up in recent months, indicating heightened activity from across the border. And although much of the border has been fenced, more effective measures are needed to curb infiltration, they felt.
Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal told TNS on Thursday that he would be writing to the PM and plead for more intensive patrolling. “We have reports that militants as well as drugs are being pushed into Punjab from Pakistan,” he said , and added that, if necessary, more security personnel need to be deployed on the border.
Punjab would also demand better use of technology and more sophisticated cameras on the border, he said.
Police and Intelligence sources said that recent arrest of militants indicate clear attempts to revive terrorism in the State. They claimed that radical elements across the border were feeling the pressure from the ISI and were trying to increase terrorist activities in Punjab.
Emerging trends show that youngsters who are desperate to settle abroad are being instigated to indulge in terrorist activists. Rattandeep Singh, who had planted a bomb in a car in Amritsar recently, was found to have his family in Canada and he himself was keen to save enough money to enable him to migrate.
The sources said militants also wanted to take their families out of the country while citing the case of Harminder Singh, who was involved in the Shingar cinema blast of October 2007. It is claimed that Harminder returned to make arrangements for his family to migrate.
Most of the militants are flying to India from either Malaysia or Nepal after procuring travel documents from Pakistan. Sources said the militants now prefer to land in South Indian cities and then make their way to Punjab, making it a little more difficult for law-enforcement agencies to nab them.

The accused have been suspended from the party, and PF leaders say that the party will not give them legal or financial help. The NDF had called for a press meet at New Delhi where party chairman EM Abdul Rehman, Gen. Sec. K.M Sheriff, National Coordination Committee member P.Koya were present. Twin-blasts at Kozhikode - Chargesheet submitted in court (Mathrubhumi: Malayalam)
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted the charge sheet for the Twin-blasts case at Kozhikode which happened in 2003. There are 7 accused, the #1 being the Thadiyantavida Nazir who is already in police custody. Two people are declared as absconders. 7th accused Shammi Firoze had told that he was ready to reveal every thing in the case (and become an approver), but he is also now included in the list of accused.
One more arrest in the 'hand chopping incident' (Mathrubhumi: Malayalam)
The arrested person is one Ali. Ali had helped the criminals to meet up after the crime had been committed.

New is just out that the Anticipatory Bail Plea of Abdul Nassar Mahdani has been rejected by the Karnataka High Court. (Mathrubhumi:Malayalam). Funny part is that our man gets a kind of dream that his bail plea is going to get rejected
. Last time also, a day or two before the Magistrate Court was to give its verdict on the bail, Mahdani had told that he does NOT expect to get bail. Yesterday also some news papers had reported that he said the same thing. In the mean while PDP folks have said that they are planning to try for anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court. I dont know whether we can give pleas at the division bench and full bench levels. The arrest warrant for him is also getting extended on and on.
Mean while the Police Commissioner, Kochi City reveals that a 3 member team was involved in the blast at the Collectorate at Kochi (Mathrubhumi: English). The three are now abroad.

Wipro to develop Crime & Criminal Tracking Network System for the central government
Conceptualised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the CCTNS aims to create a nation-wide, IT-enabled criminal tracking system.
"Wipro Infotech has been selected as the Software Development Agency (SDA) at the Centre for the CCTNS project," Wipro Infotech said in a statement.
Under the project, Wipro will develop the core software to be used by the states and another core application to be used by the Centre for digitisation of crime and criminal records.
The project, covering all states and Union Territories, will electronically link over 14,000 police stations and 6,000 higher police offices across the country. It will also present a citizen-interface to provide basic services to citizens.
Once implemented, a database of criminal records will be created at the state and national level, which can be accessed in real-time from any police station across the country.

The interesting point is none of the "silent majority" representatives speak against Taliban-style courts. This is what we know all along; there is no moderate/enlightened Islam. When push comes to shove, every one is obliged to accept the religious diktat.SSridhar wrote:No complaint on Taliban-style courts yet: Kerala Home Minister
The Kerala Government must not wait for complaints. Such complaints may never come because of fear. Mr. Kodiyeri must really raise the red flag and take suo motu action based on press reports.
A lesson for all the optimists in the world

Shunned, Will He Bolt?
Shunned, Will He Bolt?
Every few years, India's chattering class annoints a golden boy. It's PC's turn now. Erudite, articulate, armed with a Harvard MBA, he is what every middle-class Indian mom wants her son to be. A reputation for administrative zeal combined with impeccable personal integrity made him the obvious choice to straighten out the country's internal security apparatus after 26/11. But PC must be ruing the day he made the move to home from his previous perch at finance. So swift and relentless has been his fall from grace
With Manmohan Singh faltering, an opening of sorts has been created for the prime minister's post until Rahul Gandhi decides to take it on. PC made for an ideal stop-gap, which is what causes his colleagues to perspire. Intellect and integrity he has in common with Manmohan Singh but he promises to be much less accommodating of sleaze and incompetence. A party where sycophancy and expedience thrive, with performance and rectitude often serving as liabilities, is revolting against a man they consider with a bee in his bonnet. And, now that he has fallen afoul of his even his prime minister on the thorny issue of Pakistan, the knives are out. Fed up with the daily strife, PC has thrown his hands up in the air.
Waiting with open and expectant arms is the BJP. Snaring him would be a veritable coup. Only when led by Atal Behari Vajpayee, whose soothing influence moderated their extremism, were they able to capture the Red Fort in Delhi. With him gone, they have become consigned as the party of perpetual opposition, barely able to win a fifth of parliamentary seats
