Re: J & K news and discussion
The only way to stem the rot is to divide the state this would at least release the people of Jammu and Laddakh region from the clutches of 'Kashmiriyat' spouting dogs and limit CON party's antics to the valley. Lastly the b@$%^ by the name of Geelani be tried for 'Sedition' if Gobermund cannot even do that then how is J&K different from PoK ?
Re: J & K news and discussion
I think both parties are playing to their respective galleries before the elections in Bihar.I would not be too worried about these theatrics.

Re: J & K news and discussion
Lets not even bring in the excuse of elections in UP/Bihar those have got nothing to do with the mess in J&K. The mess in J&K is a direct result of some feeble man's 'healing touch' policies the worthy in charge not only did falsely concede to the high handedness of the security forces but also dropped his guard by allowing the mofo to address rallies and make anti India speeches in Jammu back in 2007 . The support to closet terrorists like Mehpooba Mufti government only gave the separatists more encouragement. I have always believed the GOI and its apologists have always overstated the role of ISI in the valley (some of these worthies were some time back claiming that Geelani was in fact a RAW agent
) , the fact is some of the lowlifes in south block have brought this $hit upon us.

Re: J & K news and discussion
^^^ Totally agree with you sir, I was only referring to dilution of power of armed forces which I believe won't happen and is just a political football.

Current problem is due to Omar Abdullah betraying his backers due to lack of experience in dealing with slime ball opponents and terrorists. OA is not usited for the cauldron of Kashmir politics. By calling for the removal of Indian military without realising the 'quiet' was temporay, he has scored a self goal. Now every person opposed to his family rule is working overtime to make him fail. I think there were fellow travellers in New Delhi(INC and babucracy) who also misread the situation due to too much Roof Afza in the WKK mushairas.
If the IA is sent back to restore order then it becomes a face losing exercise. Fortunately the 'stone throwing' tactic a la 'intefada' was defused by allowing it and showing the press that it was the security forces were the ones suffering the injuries.
Need to send him out as Ambassador to New Zealand or Fiji and bring back his papa.

there is only one way to OA's salvation. Turn into a Cashmere ata-Turk.
Take all the separatists and separatism down with you and your phamily. Bharat will recognize your sacrifice and will offer a wothwhile reincarnation, somewhere sometime
come to think of it - how about pakistan joining Cashmere instead of the otherway around

Re: J & K news and discussion
OK here is Nightwatch account of the events in J&K :
3 Aug 2010
Confirms my theory.
3 Aug 2010
India-Jammu and Kashmir State: After five days of widespread civil disorder in which 33 people are known dead, the Indian government decided to re-deploy more paramilitary police to Jammu and Kashmir State, Geo TV reported 3 August.
About 2,000 central paramilitary force personnel will be deployed in the state, as requested by state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Sources stated that 19 companies, comprised of 1,900 personnel, of central paramilitary forces are expected to reach Kashmir over several days. Another 32 companies, with 3,200 personnel currently posted in different parts of the state, will be redeployed in 10 districts in the valley.
Comment: The accidental death of a student on 11 June, after he was hit in the head by a police-fired tear gas canister, sparked a wave of protests against Indian rule in which15 died and 270 security police injured by rock throwers. By mid-July that wave spent itself, but another began last Friday, again after another police action that killed a local youth.
Until the June disorders, Kashmir was enjoying a relatively peaceful spell in which violence was down and tourism was increasing. The government was slowly reducing the number of security forces in the state and commercial activity was reviving. These appear to be mainly self-inflicted troubles, caused by sloppy police procedures. Disregard for and mistreatment of civilians has been a common failing of Indian security forces in Kashmir.
{No need for judgmental comments. What about the BART shooting in Oakland California?}
Another factor is demographic. The protestors are primarily youths who have not experienced the war weariness of their elders, after a generation of non-stop violent protests and insurgent attacks. Each youth cohort has to learn the hard way that stone throwing and economic disruption will make life harder in Kashmir. Hindu nationalists today criticized the government in New Delhi for withdrawing security forces prematurely.
Confirms my theory.
Re: J & K news and discussion
If the leader of this nation makes one statement tomorrow to the effect that "Kashmir Bharat ka Atoot Ang hai" this bullshit will die down.
Right now all kinds of jokers are exhorting people in the valley to believe "Victory is near"...
Some young dufus may actually end up thinking that they'll make the Indian state withdraw by throwing a few stones...
Its time to show the iron fist again.

Re: J & K news and discussion
MMS will make a statement at 6 pm today.
Re: J & K news and discussion
A misguided youth who was looking for trouble, and got it.Fida Nabi, 17, son of Ghulam Nabi Lone of Umarabad, HMT Shalteng, was laid to rest at Martyrs' graveyard Iddgah in the wee hours on Monday. He was hit by a police bullet in his head when protests were going on at Qamarwari on August 3.
At Fida’s home, his mother Zahida wept inconsolably as she recounted how he had told her a week ago to drape his body in an Islamic flag and “not to weep in case I am martyred.”
“While youth were getting killed all across the Kashmir valley, he gave me the flag, and willed that Syed Ali Shah Geelani should lead his funeral prayers if he was martyred,” a shattered Zahida said.

MMS's speech , posting in full
Text of PM's speech on Kashmir
Text of PM's speech on Kashmir
"I welcome you today with grief in my heart, but hope in my mind.I grieve for all those who have lost their near and dear ones in Kashmir and in the Ladakh region.I propose that we rise to observe a minute’s silence to pray for the departed.
The Government of India will continue to provide relief and other assistance and help the State Government in providing rehabilitation for all those affected by the unfortunate natural disaster in Ladakh. The whole country is with the people of J&K in their hour of sorrow.
The events in Kashmir over the past few weeks have caused me great pain. I share the grief, the sorrow and the sense of loss of every mother, every father, every family and every child in Kashmir.
I can feel the pain and understand the anger and frustration that is bringing young people out on to the streets of Kashmir. Many of them have seen nothing but violence and conflict in their lives and have been scarred by suffering.
Today I wish to share with you my sense of hope for the people of Jammu and Kashmir that I have long nurtured.
The State is only now emerging from the shadow of more than two decades of a deadly insurgency, which brought only death and devastation to the beautiful State. These were two lost decades in the history of Jammu & Kashmir’s development.
Let us make a new beginning. I appeal to the youth to go back to their schools and colleges and allow classes to resume. I ask their parents: what future is there for Kashmir if your children are not educated?
I am convinced that the only way forward in Jammu and Kashmir is along the path of dialogue and reconciliation.
Our Government, more than any other government in the past, has invested heavily in the peace process in Kashmir. The brave rejection of militancy by the people opened the door for us to pursue an unprecedented and intensive internal and external dialogue on the issues that have bedeviled Jammu and Kashmir for six decades.
With Pakistan we took a number of bold and indeed historic decisions. A bus service was started. We facilitated trade across the LOC. We facilitated arrangements for divided families to meet. We changed the policy on allowing people representing different shades of opinion to visit Pakistan because we wanted to involve all sections of the people in the peace process.
We set up a number of round-tables and then working groups in which many of you participated actively. Recognising the diversity of the State, we tried to address the problems of the Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh in a comprehensive manner. We committed unprecedented financial resources for the State’s economic reconstruction.
I repeat all this to remind you of the many positive things that have happened as a result of the peace process and the sincere efforts we have made to bring about a durable peace in Jammu & Kashmir.
Nothing will give me greater satisfaction than to see a permanent and just settlement of all outstanding issues that protects the honour and self-respect of all sections of the people of the State.
But even with the best of these intentions, I cannot say that a complex problem that has defied resolution for 63 years can be solved easily or quickly. We need patience, wisdom and a spirit of conciliation to guide us through ups and downs in the process.
I urge the people of Jammu and Kashmir to give peace a chance. There is a lot of hard work that needs to be done to rebuild the State and its institutions. We must promote economic activity and create opportunities for employment. We must build physical and human resource infrastructure.
But I recognize that the key to the problem is a political solution that addresses the alienation and emotional needs of the people. This can only be achieved through a sustained internal and external dialogue. We are ready for this. We are willing to discuss all issues within the bounds of our democratic processes and framework.
But this process can gather momentum and yield results only if there is a prolonged peace.
I believe that the vast majority of the people want a peaceful resolution of all issues. Let us recognize that repeated agitations whether violent or otherwise only obstruct this process.
The cycle of violence must now come to an end. We must collectively ensure that no innocent life is lost again. It is, of course, the bounden duty of the Government to maintain law and order. We cannot allow the turmoil to continue.
We understand the prevailing public sentiment on the issue of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Eventually the J&K Police has to take on the burden of normal law and order duties. They do not require special powers to discharge their functions. We will help to accelerate the process of strengthening and expanding the J&K Police so that they can function independently and effectively within the shortest possible time.
The J&K Police and other security forces are performing an extremely challenging task in difficult circumstances. Many of them have been seriously injured during the past few weeks.
There are elements that are trying to weaken the resolve of the J&K Police and trying to undermine their lawful efforts. I urge the State Government to take effective action to protect its policemen and their families. We should not do anything to demoralize the security forces.
The State Government and the Chief Minister are making efforts to renew contact with the people. The Central Government is fully supportive of these efforts, which should be intensified. I believe that all of you have the solemn duty of reaching out to the people and reinvigorating peaceful political activity on the ground, which is lacking today. The youth wings of your parties should be activated. In a democracy leaders have to listen to the voice of the people and gain their trust and confidence.
I believe that local body elections should be held early to increase peoples’ participation in democratic governance and to ensure political empowerment at the grassroots level.
I would urge you to build a consensus on a practical and realizable vision of Jammu and Kashmir’s future. And the people have to be convinced that this future has to be grounded in political and economic realities of our time.
Recently, young MPs from all political parties made an appeal to their brothers and sisters in J&K to exercise restraint and have trust in the power of dialogue. I fully endorse their call.
Every possible effort should be made to reach out to the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. We must respond in a sincere and substantive manner to their genuine aspirations for freedom from fear and for freedom to build for themselves a life of dignity, security and well- being.
I assure the youth of Jammu and Kashmir that their genuine empowerment will be accorded the highest priority in our Jammu and Kashmir policy.
I recognize that the benefits of the large economic reconstruction package for J&K have not been fully felt on the ground. We will quicken the pace of its implementation in cooperation with the State Government.
Based on the experience gained, I am proposing to set up an Expert Group headed by Dr. C. Rangarajan with Shri N.R. Narayana Murthy, Shri Tarun Das, Shri P. Nanda Kumar, Shri Shaqueel Qalander and an official representative of the J&K Government as members to formulate a Jobs Plan for the State, involving both the public and the private sectors. To increase employability in the State the Group will interact with the National Skill Development Mission and submit its report within three months.
But to show results of such efforts on the ground, you will have to engage actively with the youth and give them the sense of purpose, hope and direction they need to make use of the many opportunities that our economy provides.
I am optimistic about the future of Jammu and Kashmir. India’s democracy has shown that it has the resilience to accommodate a diversity of aspirations and unique circumstances and the capacity to solve complex problems.
If all sides show wisdom and restraint, I believe that we can put the bitterness and pain of the recent past behind us and breathe new life in to the peace process. I urge you to carry back with you a message of peace and reconciliation, a message of our serious will and intent to solve all problems through dialogue and a message of deep empathy for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir."

What farce ! to quote Kashmir News which btw is as pro-Kashmir as one can get (circa 2007)
GOI ,yellow journalists and fellow chankians can always pat themselves on the back and claim "Oh but this is stone pelting onlee still better than the 90's" but what these worthies fail to understand is in 90's most of the ruckus was created by 'gunmen' (that is what our media uses , haina ? ) who had little sympathy/support of the locals and outsiders ,this time however it is by and large the locals who have taken to the streets on Geelani's(RAW agent
) call . Now with the media on their side the issue has already started making waves in International fora, tomorrow if ISI slips in a cache of guns and grenades we will require a BENIS for Kashmir.
PMji saysThe percentage of population living below poverty line is however better than the national average.
The very fact that this has not been resolved in 63 years is a testimony to the fact that either there was no serious attempt made on part of the GOI to bring peace to the region or the approach itself was flawed , what is concerning is the PM still talks about the same old stuff about opportunity to youth, development and similar mumbo jumbo and fails to address the main issue i.e. failure to gag the voices of separatists who have cunningly resorted to the new ploy of using kids and youth as human shields to wage their war.But even with the best of these intentions, I cannot say that a complex problem that has defied resolution for 63 years can be solved easily or quickly. We need patience, wisdom and a spirit of conciliation to guide us through ups and downs in the process.

Btw the usual dog and poney show goes on
Geelani's appeal works, protesters stay home
Meanwhile afaik stage is being set for pup's trip to the valley , makes sense specially when PM talks about early polls (wonder what is this fetish about polls)
Geelani's appeal works, protesters stay home
A bundle of notes and a desperate plea from HMO/PMO to the rat must have bought this temporary peace.Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's appeal for peace had a dramatic effect on agitating Kashmiris who, after weeks of violent confrontation with the security forces in which 49 people have died, obeyed curfew orders on Thursday and remained off the streets, providing a desperately needed break from the vicious cycle of protests and killings.
Meanwhile afaik stage is being set for pup's trip to the valley , makes sense specially when PM talks about early polls (wonder what is this fetish about polls)
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked J&K Congress leaders to reach out to the people and "dry their tears". The state Congress delegation also met Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister A K Antony besides Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. According to the statement, PM told the party leaders to keep themselves connected with Kashmiris in their hour of need.
Re: J & K news and discussion
stone throwing journalist
DDM at its best with no one to counter his bile.
The firing was on jeehards -conveniently blaming the security forcesOn July 4, I went home on a vacation. Driving me home from the airport, my friend and Outlook's Kashmir correspondent Showkat A. Motta told me about the horror he and some other journalists had to face the day before. While following a procession on its way to Sopore, they had been fired at by a policeman on the Srinagar-Sopore highway. They had shouted out that they were reporters. Only a hail of abuses was returned. Taking cover in a nearby field, they were wondering how the bullets had missed them. I don't blame Showkat's wife for asking him to quit journalism and raise chickens.
The reporter is from national media. Is he saying he a kashmiri and different from being an Indian. does he support terrorists? This time, I realised soon enough, people want, for the lack of a better word, revenge — being totally aware that their acts of revenge will result in more deaths. It's a rage more directed towards one's helplessness than towards any armed soldier or policeman. Why else would, as the national media describes them, these "frenzied mobs sponsored by the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba" not kill a soldier they had cornered on a road? Why would they just beat him up, strip him and let him go?
Will hindustan times take action against him and strip him of his job. bloody rrsss whole.I picked up a stone from the debris of a housing cluster burnt by CRPF soldiers in 1990 and hurled it at the soldiers, a few of whom were filming the stone-throwers with mini-cams. Caught, I could have been booked under the Public Safety Act and jailed for two years without a trial. I would have been jobless because no news organisation would have a felon on its rolls. But I threw more stones.
As I was hurling the stones it felt like this was the only legitimate thing to do in that cursed place. And after being restrained by my fellow journalists, disoriented, I walked to Nawab Bazar. In the Old City, where I was born
selective memories to justify your actions. Go tell that to families of security forces and citizens killed by you scumsA short distance away from it, the Dogra king's soldiers had shot my great-grandfather dead in 1931.
DDM at its best with no one to counter his bile.

Hinting at the gradual withdrawal of the AFSPA, he underscored his government's desire to see a strengthened and expanded J&K police assuming “the burden of normal law and order duties” within the shortest possible time. “They do not require special powers to discharge their functions,” he pointed out, while stressing that nothing should be done to demoralise the security forces, which were “performing an extremely challenging task in difficult circumstances.”
Re: J & K news and discussion
The Prime Minister feels the pain of those who take to the streets to try and kill people with stones. That is touching.

PM offers jobs, asks Kashmir to give peace a chance
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reached out to the Valley on Tuesday, urging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to give "peace a chance", while recognising the need for a political solution that addresses their "sense of alienation".
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 289948.cms"I can feel the pain and understand the anger and frustration that is bringing young people out on to the streets of Kashmir," he said. This marked a change of tonality; also because the PM refrained from mentioning the role of outsiders -- a euphemism for Pakistan's well-known role in stoking trouble.

Valley cash scanner on embassies
ARCHIS MOHAN
New Delhi, Aug. 10: Security agencies suspect development aid from north European countries is being routed to Kashmir NGOs with links to militants. Some embassy officials of South Asian origin, who are first or second-generation migrants to Europe, are thought to be behind the funding and are being watched for the past few months, sources said.
“Their activities and modus operandi are suspect to say the least,” a source said, citing how the embassy officials under the scanner change their cellphones frequently.
The NGOs receiving the money claim to be working for human rights in the Valley, but youths employed with them have been involved in the ongoing street violence, sources said.
Suspicion has centred on funds from specific Christian aid agencies. But the government is treading softly because India has extremely cordial relations with the countries in question.
Security agencies are confident the mission officials of South Asian origin and not the donor country or agency are behind the funding. “These officials have influenced the decisions of these donor agencies,” sources said.
The government may soon relay to the mission heads the “undesirability” of keeping these embassy officials in India.
Security agencies have already been investigating a money trail from Spanish cities and towns to Kashmir. Home ministry sources say this cash from Pakistan’s ISI — mostly small amounts — is being paid to stone-throwers in the Valley and is even financing gunrunning.
Minister of state Ajay Maken told the Lok Sabha that “militants/terrorists active in India are also funded by their outfits based abroad, particularly in Pakistan, often routed through third countries”.
India, the minister added, has “recently become a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)”.
Maken said central intelligence and security agencies, working in tandem with their counterparts in the states, had arrested “a number of persons involved in facilitating funds/financing of terrorism”......

Please Mr. PM, no more useless gov jobs and aid money. These lazy a**es need to start working 8 to 5 producing something of value. Why the f*ck should the Indian tax payer subsidize these sloths. Once these people have to start thinking and making money on their own, they wont have time to indulge in acts of violence and vandalism. Let market forces and people from the rest of India pull the valley away from the clutches of Islamic fundamentalism.sunnyP wrote:The Prime Minister feels the pain of those who take to the streets to try and kill people with stones. Re: J & K news and discussion
Another bit of clap trap from DDM dorkette Sagarika Ghosh. She starts off with the faulty premise that these stone pelting-louts don't want separation, and then she disingeuously suugest that Kashmiri Muslims must given their right to regional pride. And we all know what that means.

Kashmir separatists reject autonomy offer

I think PM statement is the right starting point. India should not be bothered about what the local separatists and proPakistani groups are saying. They should initiate a political process which India can maximum give to Kashmir within her consitution. For those who cannot accept it should realise that the problems cannot be solved in their terms. But if an autonomy within constitution is considered then people may find it their status is returned to preindependent which is better than a war between two countries and wiping out of both sides of Kashmir in war and so on.
Even the opposition parties should study it carefully and critique only if there are serious issues in the proposals. Even what Vajapayee offered was more than what MMS is offering. It will be good for all national parties to sit together and see whether this proposal is genuine and work together to sort out this problem so that even the considerable minority which is supporting the separatists movement will support Indian proposals and leae altogether their demands and ask remaining Kashmir to enjoy the freedom and development as being part of India's progress. Even if Advani's turn comes into governance he too needs support from all parties if he wanted to sort this issue in a similar way.

Anindya - your article is probably pointing to Norway, the only nordic country with a large expat pakistani population.

Things slowly hotting up in J&K ( these headlines remind us of the daily headlines 5-6 years back) :
Ultras kill 3 policemen in Sopore
Militants attack Army convoy, one killed, 9 injured
Ultras kill 3 policemen in Sopore
Do we have a witness protection type program in J&K?Reports said the militants equipped with automatic weapons and grenades targeted Sopore police station, CID office and a protected person. In the shootout, three police men were killed.
“Reinforcement of police and security forces was rushed to the affected area, which has been cordoned off,” said a police official. The attack on police came hours after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his statement directed the state government to take due care of police men and their families in the ongoing unrest and keep their morale high.
Militants attack Army convoy, one killed, 9 injured
A woman was killed and nine others, including two Army jawans, were injured when a passenger bus was fired at by militants during an attack on an Army convoy in Rajouri district on Wednesday.
A group of militants perched on hill tops fired at the vehicle of a Commanding Officer of Rashtriya Rifles. A bus passing through the area got hit in the attack, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rajouri, R K Jalla said.
In the firing, one woman died and 9 others were injured, two of them Army jawans, he said.
Army troops returned the fire and a heavy gunbattle followed which was continuing till last reports came in.

Next time we should organize CWG in Kashmir. kalmadi and his cohorts will feel at home with all the corruption and free money.
Re: J & K news and discussion
This, attack on Security Forces convoy, is happening after a long time. And given the fact that it was an IA convoy, the lady in question is most likely to be relative of some IA soldier/officer.sum wrote:<SNIP>

But IMO, if this is an indicator of TSPA increasing the pressure on J&K and getting to stage II of this drama (stage I being piss full stone throwing) of increasing the pressure on GOI, then it is shooting itself in the feet, again. These piglets are not going to survive beyond couple of weeks after IA gets at them. The fate of piglets in 'stronghold' of Sopore is one small example.
However, what this may do is get GOI/IA to re-deploy IA in certain areas; combined with intifada and movement of troops back in earlier vacated areas, pic of unstable Kashmir can be portrayed. All depends on how the GOI tackles the situation. The speech by MMS is a good indicator that things are going to stay status-quo....all this autonomy and associated BS is for chai-biskoot session and aimed more at western audience.
By rejecting this offer, piglets in Hurriyat have again done brilliant soo-side - Indian Babu to world press, "We're flexible and willing to accommodate all demand with-in Indian constitution, but they don't want to talk. What to do?"
And no one, I repeat no one (Millipede is an exception) is going to ask India to do any more on this issue....after all, haven't we ourselves offered to talk with all and sundry?
The real crux of problem with hurri-rats is this - they don't have to offer any thing to the GOI. All they dois ASK for this and that. And hence, they simply cannot come to any negotiating table--what will they offer? Nothing. Any GOI offer to talk with these idiots always end up this way. The NSCN at least can offer cease fire....what can these puppets offer?

It all boils down to GOI's clarity of thought IMHO. If India shouldn't be bothered about what the local/sponsored separatists what is the need for separate treatment to JK state?
If cashmere "silent majority" is truly is what separatists say, MMS' strategy will not succeed. If separatists are the minority then MMS's strategy is wrong as he is mixing the "silent majority" with those separatists and making wrong assessments.

Ramay
We have to address the issue in a genuine way. Autonomy within Indian constitution does not mean we are giving them an independence. We are respecting the aspiration of the people who wish to have a kind of autonomy within India which would lead them to say that we are fine with this level of freedom rather than supporting the separatist movement. We cannot say there is none who wants a bit of autonomy in Kashmir. If we grant it there is a bigger opportunity for us to be morally high internatinally even to claim we have respected the aspirations of the people. In this way this kind of solution will not lead to a complete session of Kashmir rather an autonomy similar to some autonomous parliaments around the world but within one single nation. In this way we achieve two things - one is the issue is settled from our side once for all and also we are able to say to the outside world we have met the aspirations of the people within our own constition. This is better than what Vajpayee and Musharaff nearly agreed upon.

Re: J & K news and discussion
JJ garu,
I am all for autonomy, if and only if that comes AFTER we clean the valley of local/sponsored separatists.
What I would like to know (especially GOI's position) is whether the cashmere issue is a separatist issue or a genuine demand for more autonomy? To my eyes it is nothing but a separatist movement by local minorities with external support. If I am correct then no amount of autonomy will solve the problem as long as these separatists remain alive.
What bigger opportunity Cashmere can get in Indian constitution that is over and above A370? What about other states/regions? What would be the intended and unintended consequences?
AFAIK India doesn't have to convince outside world about whether we met the aspirations of the people within our constitution. Our constitution is written by, for, implemented-by Indians.
Do you really believe that India will be able to "convince" the outside world on any issue, ever?
