Surely MMS will not loose sleep even if his co-religionists are threatened. Sekoolaarism indeed.

Situation seems pretty grim if a "secular" paper like the Hindu is putting out article after article detailing the way the valley has turned completely Islamist.

I am sure that no action will be taken to protect the rights of the Sikhs in the valley. Only some justifications will be provided as to why this is a correct act and why the Sikhs should submit to these MOFOs.

Someday , Inshallah - when the situation in the valley is one of near collapse and utter chaos, the govt. will realize the need for forced secularization of Kashmir. Since the "ethnic cleansing" started off the trouble , only conclusivly reversing that process (manifold) will get the situation back to normal.

When the Pandits were thrown out of the Valley, a disinformation campaign was launched that they themselves chose to leave the Valley or the then J&K Governor Jagmohan Singh instigated that etc. I am waiting to see what twist will be given to the above news now. I hope that the powers that be realize the true nature of the danger that is staring at us. The recent statement by the Kerala CM, most secular among all the p-secs, on what is happening in his State must be an eye-opener.

ssridhar, you probably have the data to do this, have you looked at a timeline of crisis events in pakistan and events in j&k and also other parts of india?... i mean, the correlation between x and y and the need to cause y to divert from x or enable x

might make for an interesting graphic

Sridhar Saar,

No amount of evidence or words will wake up some one who is pretending to be asleep. P sec croud will try to pin the blame of this threat to an earlier incident where a Sikh youth was beaten up by the ROPers.

i think its a controlled escalation by the jehadi brains behind the stone throwing mobs. so far the indian state hasnt budged, its offered talks, offered compromise, been reasonable. so now, they are trying to agitate against a specific minority to create a hot-blooded response and escalate the law and order problem, or encourage a heavy handed state response

i fear difficult times for the j&k sikh community in the days ahead

If there are too many atrocities on the Sikhs in J&K, then it would be the most opportune time for Indian Security Forces to behead the whole Jihadi and Pro-Pakistani Infrastructure in J&K along with their families, in the garb of civilian Sikh backlash.

That would teach the pro-Pakistani and Islamist-minded KMs a lesson, that there are consequences to their allegiance to Rawalpindi, and dancing to their tune.

It's a deep game plan and a carefully calibrated escalation. Their propagandu machinery will blame the Indians for the attacks on the sikhs.

MMS will offer more autonomy and form another committee.

The pakis will stir up the usual unrest among the separatists in Punjab.

Usually Hindus and Sikhs hang out together in such circumstances.. How come there are still Sikhs in valley while all hindus fled in late 80's. Weren't the Sikhs threatened too? Or were Sikhs left unharmed by Islamists to fuel the Khalistan Issue?

Read Jagmohan's book "My Frozen Turbulence in Kashmir" on how Simranjit Singh Mann (a rogue former IPS officer turned Khalistani) was repeatedly visiting Kashmir in late 80s and early 90s. There was a coordinated move by the Khalistanis and K-terrorists in early 1990s to deliver the final push and break India up like Eastern Europe and Soviet Union.

I guess during early part of this decade, Sikhs in the rural areas were actually given arms and ammunition by the security forces to protect themselves. The rural areas' Sikhs were severely targeted by the terrorists.

From http://pakistanpal.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... es-salute/ we see that the other part of the equation joins up - first, it was the ISI support for the naxalites and now the naxalites pay back the favor with open support for the Kashmiri terrorists err... stone throwers.
Kashmiri agitators get Naxalites’ salute

TNN

NAGPUR: The central committee (CC) of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) has given its thumbs up for the Kashmiri protesters clashing with the security forces in the valley. In a scathing criticism on the role of the central and state governments, the Naxals have claimed that the enemy was the same, be it at Dandakaranya or Kashmir.

Through a two-page release, the rebels have extended their ‘revolutionary salute’ or Inquilabi salaam to the Kashmiri protesters fighting for their rights. The Maoists were critical of the use of force by the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government to crush the resistance of the people.

The CC, along with the people’s army and other revolutionary outfits, has vowed to continue supporting the valley protesters.

The naxals dramatically equated the stone throwing youths of Kashmir to the bow-and-arrow equipped tribals of Dandakaranya. The CC “believes that the Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris”. It has also appealed to all to support the ‘just national liberation struggle of the people of Kashmir’.

The CC has lashed out at the media for distorting Kashmir’s history. Naxals have also urged citizens across the length and breadth of the country to raise their voice against the ‘heartless killing of youth’ by the security forces.

They have also made an appeal to the activists and right bodies to demand the withdrawal of the forces from Kashmir. The rebels had made a similar demand several times in the Dandakaranya region in the past too.

One Kashmiri on why they are sooooo different.....

http://blogs.hindustantimes.com/the-del ... %E2%80%9D/
He is half Delhiwalla but the 18-year-old Mr Peerzada Shah Fahad avoids the label. He may have two homes but he says he belongs to only one.

Mr Fahad’s handicraft trader father has a six-room house in Srinagar but each winter they migrate to this four-room rented apartment in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, home to Kashmiris, Afghans amongst others. Here Mr Fahad has made many ‘Indian’ friends. Here his older brother is a call centre executive in Gurgaon. But Mr Fahad doesn’t think he is an Indian, much less a Delhiwalla, thank you very much.

“I’m Kashmiri and we’re different from Indians,” he told me one day as we were sitting at Central Park in Connaught Place. “Our life, our food, our language is very different.”

“So is that of a Tamilian,” I said.

“But our religion, too, is different,” argued Mr Fahad, “We’re Muslims.”

Aamir Khan, Agnivesh, and a mufti from Deoband as part of the group to do "dialog" with the Sunni trouble makers of Srinagar..and the group to be led by Shri Kalam (who's already done his bit for the nation and now has to return to herd this bunch of cats)....words fail me as to the wisdom of Mr Athales suggestion

Been with many Muslim folks over the years. Some good, some bad, disturbing issues around literalist positions amongst many thanks to the state in which their faith is vis a vis the mullah hierarchy, communal views are also common, but there are also positives amongst several. Ambitious, ok with Indian identity and moving forward. But amongst them, never have I seen a bigger bunch of pretentious, puffed up, and rabidly bigoted types than the well to do, urban Kashmiri types. Poke a bit and the anti India bile comes out, all in fervent religious terms and they'll proudly speak of how Kashmiriyat is secular. Brainwashed Twits.

Whether it is Pak or JK mullahs - I just don't get it. What is there for India to talk? This talk and mollify etc. for what? India is 60 year old nation and both the problems has no change except the usage of latest technology in terms of weapons and killing mechanisms. Even status-quo has certain limitations and we are at a state and it just may be not sustainable. Idiots write reams and reams of involve Kalam, bring back kashmiriyat etc. WTF is that Kashmiriyat. It it time to kill some Orc. It does not matter if that Ork is FIVE year old or Fifty year old. If the world calls it as genocide and let it be genocide. It is too much of bull that India is taking everywhere.

Another one of those helpless groping in the dark BS. And the good colonel also contradicts himself. First, he does hit the right button, namely, the KM stone-pelting louts want out of India. Then he suggests a panel that includes Kalam to find out what KMs want. Give me break.

I don't know with what conviction MMS said so on independence day, but he did say that Indian govt will hold talks with those KM perverts only within the ambit of the Indian constitution. I think this message must be delivered with a bit more punch. And at some stage shoot to kill the b@stards is the only option left. Let the world scream "human rights". But at every stage India must emphasize that secession and any role for TSP in the valley is simply not on the cards. If India caves in on these sacred principles, I would say thats the final nail on India's coffin as worthy of some kind of a power, Mumbai has exposed the hollowness of India's "great power" claim; matter of fact, if TSP & KMs bully India into submission, it would be the beginning of the end of India as we know it.

I must admit, I have only read excerpts of the book, but isn't it more the economy at all costs, and nothing about India's security environment? He must be told that if TSPA/ISI dispatches 2 dozen LET cadres into his Infosys campus Mumbai style, as Mazari and even TSP ambassador to US, Hussein Haqqani once threatned; there will be nothing left to imagine anymore.

IMO, the high tide of Kashmir intifada has ebbed and here is why - the deaths in these agitations were novelty in the circus of violence and death in the valley (after a long time - there were such instances in 1989-91 period). As this violence has progressed, it has moved beyond the 'new' uprising and become par for the course - just another statistic.

Where IMO the strategy has gone wrong is in scaling the escalation ladder too soon - there is no stage 2 in this drama. And once MMS made that speech - he took the sting out of the agitation. That MMS speech was the 'result' achieved by the stone pelting strategy. What now? More stone-pelting and more deaths.

And this letter to Sikhs is a complete 'shoot in the foot' step - what was once cry for self determination only by 'restless' and 'jobless' youth takes on religious colors and shows the hands of islamists in this nonsense. Islamists, who are not excatly toast of the town these days.

This newer strategy of Intifada style demo is going to give diminishing returns with each passing day. As I said sometime earlier, Hurriyat has nothing to offer in talks - their bargaining chips are these violent protests and hope that GOI scumbs to this. No give and take, no parleys.

Grave consequences indeed.
At most we will read about offers of peace and reconciliation with another warning of grave consequences if the offer is rejected accompanied by Sikh community organising another of its highly annoying and disruptive blockade of highway through parts of Jammu city. I am unaware of any other measures that they can take, none in Kashmir

Err Jamwal you should know that Punjab VS elections are due in Feb-2012 and Punjab BJP was one of the key supporters of Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti from Pathankot side. Any harm brought upon Sikhs in J&K will definitely lead to a mass mobilization by SAD-BJP that will not only blockade valley but also Dilli. If the government will refuse to perform its duty then it will have to face a Gujjar Agitation plus plus this time. Badal is not making empty threats. The feeling against the centre is at an all time high due to a variety of issues, I hope sanity prevails and government does not allow opening of an old wound.

Also do not forget that Badal made this statement at an NDA rally commemorating Sant HS Longowal and where he launched a bitter attack on INC in presence of NDA leaders like Rajnath Singh, Sharad Yadav and Manoranjan Kalia. There are undercurrents and trends to the happenings, hope the situation diffuses.

OT but those fools in Urban Development Ministry have recently denied Heritage Status to Amritsar Sahib on some flimsy technical grounds and Badal has been constantly pleading with central government to better tighten border controls and keep some rogue elements in check. Punjab Police has been regularly hauling some of the largest arms caches in recent past, clearly the central government can ill afford to treat Punjab as a pushover. This letter by fundoos in the valley has provoked the memories of Aurangzeb and Guru Tegh Bahadur ji to come alive. Not done simply not done.

Badal getting an election issue to beat Congress in state election 2 years from now in Punjab ? That doesn't seem like something that'll galvanize MMS to take firm actions against KMs or make KMs behave.
How is this blockade of Valley going to work without affecting people of Laddakh and Jammu ? What is blockade of Dilli ? How'll it help India without making life hell for Indian citizens ? Is there any thing apart from bandhs and strikes that can make govt take some action ? Jat-Gujjar agitations for reservations are too trivial, stupid and unrelated to be included in this issue. Govt will find a way anyhow to keep the KMs well fed during any blockade. In 2007, Army was brought in to restore the supply lines within 2 days of attempted blockade by AYSS and KMs even got relief package worth 100s of crores for all their peacefool protests.

Jammu BJP is biggest part of Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti. Pathankot BJP being a part means nothing. What do Punjabi Sikhs care about J&K, AYSS and related issues ? Where was any support in 2007 when it was needed ?
What was the reaction of Sikhs when 30+ Sikhs were gunned down in Chattisighpura and a few Sikh truck drivers lynched by K-Muslim mobs in 2007 ?
Sikhs in Jammu blockaded roads and went around shutting down shops. Just the usual stuff. Did KM terrorists suffer for their actions ?

This so called "warning" by Badal means nothing. At best he will possibly gain some points against Congress and win the election in Punjab. Can he do anything about KMs who shave off hair of Sikhs and convert them or drive them out of valley ? IMHO, he can't.

2 years? What two years 16 months from now Election Code comes into force (extremely significant for me). Bandh and blockade is just one step short of an all out shooting match and any democracy will prefer to have these rather than settling issues Khyber style. No blockade will work without affecting all parties concerned but this is like saying that let us have a conflict but please ensure that none of our soldiers come to harm.

Either you fight for it or leave it. Damage will be on both sides. Bandhs and Strikes are the best ways to get the GOI to fall in line. The recent anti-inflation rally has proven that people have developed an appetite for taking to streets in wake of recent happenings in the nation, mind you this was not the case even after Mumbai attacks. Of course the suited booted ity-vity folks and well fed middle classes will hate these tactics but then they are not the ones whom we we expect to heed the call of motherland.
Jat-Gujjar agitation was actually an old trick used in a new way, the best ever mass mobilization was by Ram Janmbhoomi folks in 1990s when a mixture of issues like reservations, Shah-bano case, insurgency in J&K and weak economy led to people coming out on streets. The rest is history.

Govt will find a way anyhow to keep the KMs well fed during any blockade. In 2007, Army was brought in to restore the supply lines within 2 days of attempted blockade by AYSS and KMs even got relief package worth 100s of crores for all their peacefool protests.
Well till now the GOI could get away by playing minority majority card but by taking on Sikhs they have bitten more than they can chew. Time will tell.
Jammu BJP is biggest part of Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti. Pathankot BJP being a part means nothing. What do Punjabi Sikhs care about J&K, AYSS and related issues ? Where was any support in 2007 when it was needed ?

Well please go through the news archives and find out Punjab BJP's role in Amarnath Sangharsh, you will be pleasantly surprised. Karan Thapar hollered against Punjab BJP leaders on national TV that these folks were mobilizing resources, sending money and coordinating the blockade and threatened Arun Jaitley to rein them in. Some of the best langars each year at Baltal are run by folks from Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar (I have accompanied a lot of them and did "seva" number of times). Punjabi Sikhs are also a regular part of the yatra and my friends have accompanied me to Baba Barfani a lot of times. Regarding Chattisingpura and individual lynchings yes these were acts of terror but nowhere was religion an explicit angle nor was it a question of Islam Vs Sikhi. The call and threat to convert has touched a raw and primal nerve in the populace.
Sikhs in Jammu blockaded roads and went around shutting down shops. Just the usual stuff. Did KM terrorists suffer for their actions ?
Yes, internationally and nationally the Jammu Vs Valley divide has become cast in stone and valley fundoos have lost the assiduously built perception of representing Kashmiriyat yada yada.
This so called "warning" by Badal means nothing. At best he will possibly gain some points against Congress and win the election in Punjab. Can he do anything about KMs who shave off hair of Sikhs and convert them or drive them out of valley ? IMHO, he can't.
Let them try it and take him lightly

In conclusion I will assert that gobermund and KMs or any other party can treat CM of Punjab as lightly as they want  . My final post.

^^^ Well, while I firmly hope n pray sri munna knows what he is talking about, I fear that what I read about this GOI's past record is not inspiring (in fact its decidedly expiring only).

I expect gubmint's WKKism to shine through loud and clear only.
I hope it doesn't.
Nothing to do but to wait n see who wins this round of hope vs experience.

As this violence has progressed, it has moved beyond the 'new' uprising and become par for the course - just another statistic.
What is the number of people who are agitating. Valley is only 120 sq km
Since the older generation is fading away and the memory of 1947 is also fading they are working on a new generation to keep it going.
But the hardcore Taliban is being fed from Pakistan and that needs to be cut off
