In deference to this being the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramzan aka Ramadan, I trust that the American’s were considerate enough to release the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s National Bird for “feeding” during the halal period between Iftaar and Sehri.

As a clarification is the Predator the Islamic Republic of Pakistan's National Bird or the National Bird of Prey?

More on the Vatican statement about Paki discrimination against Christians in aid relief.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... ctims.html

Excerpt:
Pakistan relief organisations 'discriminating against Christian flood victims'
Relief organisations in Pakistan are discriminating against Christians when they distribute flood aid, the Vatican said on Friday, as one million more people were displaced by fresh floods.
By Rob Crilly in Islamabad
Published: 5:31PM BST 27 Aug 2010

On Friday officials warned that the death toll was expected to rise significantly as many people remained missing Photo: GETTY Christians and members of other minority religions are being treated as second-class citizens, said Father Mario Rodrigues, the Lahore-based director of Catholic Mission.

"They often receive little assistance or are excluded altogether," he told Fides, the Vatican's news agency.

Aid is being delivered by "government officials sympathetic to Islamic fundamentalism or by Muslim relief organisations", Fides claimed in its report, citing other unnamed aid workers.

About 200,000 Christians in Punjab province and about 600,000 Christians and Hindus in Sindh province have been affected by weeks of monsoon rain.

Ahmad Kamal, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority, denied the accusations of prejudice.

"We have no discrimination, no requirements, no checklist. Aid goes to everyone," he said.

However, Nazir Bhatti, President of the Pakistan Christian Congress, urged donors to make special provisions for Christians.

"I appeal to organisations and countries which are giving aid to government of Pakistan for flood victims to allocate separate or special funds for Christian flood victims and transfer it to Caritas Pakistan or Bishops Conference of Pakistan for food, tents and medical facilities," he said in a statement

Saar,
If anything, theses floods have only managed to widen the disparity. All good onlee!
Coming from a rural background, I feel the floods have shaken up a large % of the population. As mentioned earlier, we will see more and more people moving to the cities and smaller towns. Here is why.

TSP is by and large an agrarian economy. The floods have wreaked havoc on the single most important part . Now , what does this mean to the average abdul in the village? During normal times, there is some work throughout the year. Crops are planted and there is usually a yield 2 or 3 times a year. This keeps average abdul (and ayesha) busy. A meagre existence but average abdul is content.
The floods have made the land unusable for the next 2-3 months. First, the flood waters must subside. Then the existing rotting crop must be removed. New crop must be planted. Harvest comes a good 4 months later. There is some work during the beginning, little during and lots of work during harvest. Even the first part requires seeds, fertilzer etc . Seeds are very sensitive to humidity and they simply germinate and die if not planted in time.
Road and rail networks, the vital lifeline of rural parts are destroyed. So nothing is going to reach the rural parts. So nothing is going to happen in the fields. Abdul has nothing to do and no income! He thinks the cities are a better place and heads there.
Add to that the incompetence of TSP. They simply will not care about the rural populace.
Add to that limited suplies of food items:=> inflation. Abdul will start really wondering about Allah and his mysterious ways!
Add to that the limited time aid agencies will be there. As it is , large tracts of the population are still not being reached.
When aid agencies leave, they are mighty phucked!
The situation is very strange because you do not see the number of deaths being reported anymore. What in reality I think is happening is babies and old men are already falling like dead leaves!
A mini-vacuum exists in rural parts . ..the parts which supply food to the cities. With no activity there, there is going to be enormous pressure on scant resources in the coming months.

Two points

1) Road and rail may not be as badly damaged as is being claimed - it may be for "more money"
2) The rural refugees will be housed in camps where firangi photographers will publish close up pictures of houseflies on babies' faces and Pakistan will ask for guess what? More money

In the end Pakistan will recover. Nobody will worry about the dead kids and old men. And Pakis will have got - you guessed it. More money.

I share Shiv's view.Abdul will continue to wail for years to come and there will always be sincere warm-hearted humans like Angie Jolie, donating more than the chateau-owning
"Count of Money-Crispo",the Zardar of Sindh;who will always be ever-ready to part with their money for such professional beggars like the paki ruling elite.Add to these charities and charitable human beings, will be found the "strategic vultures" of the US of A,who must be joyous at the suffering of the Pakis because their subservience is guaranteed for yet another decade or two. Thus fed with crumbs from the rich-man's table, the Pakis will survive much in manner that forced labour did during WW2.tThe Nazis were excellent at establishing just how much food and sustenance was required for a worker in a concentration or labour camp to survive. The Pakis, especially btheir ruling elite will certainly be fed much better, but their servility will be available to their rich benefactors for a goodly part of this century.

The only way in which this applecart can be upturned is if the ungodly fish in these troubled waters. As someone quoted,"fishing" is becoming a vital part of the Paki economy thanks to the flood waters. We saw pics of this on telly. However, these latter day fishermen are not of the Christian faith, where Christ asked his disciples to be "fishers of men" with fisherman Simon Peter to lead to spread the gospel of Love. They fish for men who will eventually become suicide bombers and defenders of their warped faith, based upon the message and doctrine of jihad. From the disastrous way in which the Paki establishment is handling flood relief, where powerful individuals are getting first peck at the picnic, these latter-day bearded fishermen are going to bring in nets overflowing with their "catch"!

Captured militants attack guards in NW Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- Captured Islamist militants seized weapons from their guards and took them hostage during an interrogation Saturday in northwestern Pakistan, setting off a gunbattle that paralyzed parts of the city, officials said.

Police officials initially said militants had attacked the army intelligence office from outside, but other officials later said there had been no external assault.

Hostage crisis in Pak military compound after militant attack
Captured militants, who were being interrogated at a Pakistani military intelligence compound near the US consulate in Peshawar, overpowered their guards on Saturday, sparking a hostage crisis in the northwestern city.

The militants overpowered guards at the army detention centre located within Peshawar cantonment and took two sentries hostage, said chief military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas.

The militants, who were being investigated by a law enforcement agency, also took control of the building located a short distance from the U.S. Consulate and an office of the Intelligence Bureau.

Earlier reports had suggested that a group of militants had entered the high security area and engaged security forces in a gun battle.

However, General Abbas clarified that no terror attack had occurred and that no militants had entered the area. {Obviously, then, they were insiders. Their own armymen}

“No terrorists came to the area from outside. Security forces have cordoned off the building and all-out efforts are being made to free the hostages,” he told reporters.

“We are hopeful of resolving this problem soon,” General Abbas said.

He refused to give details due to security reasons.

The number of militants in the building too could not be immediately ascertained.

Local residents said they heard gunshots in the area near the U.S. consulate at 6 a.m. local time.

Large contingents of soldiers and policemen quickly moved into the area and sealed it off. Key roads were blocked and traffic was diverted to other routes.

“All resources are being put in place to deal with the situation,” General Abbas told media.

He avoided giving additional details and said that more information will be provided to the media later.

Peshawar’s military airbase and the city’s international airport are located a few kilometres from the building occupied by the militants.

Witnesses said the militants and security personnel had exchanged fire several times but there were no reports of casualties.

Security forces conducted a search operation in the area to check if any persons were helping the militants, sources said.

On April 5, militants armed with automatic weapons and suicide car bombs tried to storm the consulate, killing three persons. At least six attackers were gunned down or blew themselves up in that incident.
The US Consulate was deliberately co-located with the army compound in hops of better security within the Cantonment. Last year, the American Consul was attacked as she set out but she escaped.

DAWN report on the Peshawar situation
Bashir Bilour, a provincial cabinet minister whose home is nearby, told AFP that the first round of firing continued for 30 minutes.

“Soldiers have also entered my hujra (visitors’ compound). I cannot go outside,” he added.
Oh, the terrorists have a 4-in-1 target. The US Consulate, PA camp, IB building and Bilour's house.

What I see is a lot of chaos in the rural areas. After these floods there is going to be an enormous redistribution of land, and not the kind where land ownership is transferred to the poor.

No, already big land owners are going to hire muscle-men, and forcibly take land away from the poorer farmers. The poorer farmers too may try to get their land rights somewhere else leading to chaos. Ultimately there are going to be many people who get entangled in this land-ownership struggles, which are going to turn nasty and violent, forcing people from their villages into the cities with a lot of anger at the rich. That anger is going to come on top of anger at the authorities who did not come to help as their children and elders were dying and then there is going to be anger after hearing rumors of how all those waters were diverted to save some big sharks lands.

On the other hand, there is going to be sufficient work in the rural areas paid by the large land owners in cleaning up the mess, so some will definitely be staying back in the rural areas.

In Karachi one hears of how nationalist Sindhi groups are directing Sindhis to settle down in places which are still under construction. So people are working in shoring up their vote banks by resettlement of flood refugees.

Look at Altaf Bhai, asking for patriotic generals to impose martial la. Is that any talk? Four times in 63 year history of Pakistan we have tasted martial la. Faujis have ruled us openly for 32 years and from the behind for 26 years, accept for 5 years Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto interrectum.
>>Whats interrectum? Its not a dictionary word for sure... unless its inter-rectum and a Paki way of doing things best left unmentioned  ?[/quote]

Well, if you look at it closely, it is clear he meant "interrectum". Note: "Faujis have ruled us openly for 32 years and from the behind for 26 years" ... so, that being the case, what could the 5 years of Zulfuqar Ali Bhuttu be other than "interrectum"?

No change seen in PA's view of India's threat
“These are two mutually exclusive threats. The magnitude, the type, is quite different. One is an internal threat which is insidious, difficult to quantify. It is a clear and present danger. This is a very serious threat,” he said. “The other is a conventional threat. What has India done, politically and militarily, for this threat to have been reduced?” he asked.

Another official said the threat from India had, if anything, increased into both a conventional and unconventional threat, as it used its presence in Afghanistan to support those fighting against the government in Balochistan.

Analysts see no chance of India exploiting Pakistan’s current vulnerability by raising tensions on the border.

“At this time, no one is thinking of anything other than how to help them get over the suffering and the damage,” said Brigadier (r) Gurmeet Kanwal at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies, India.

But the security official said that Pakistan’s military deployment was based on its assessment of India’s potential offensive strength. “The configuration of any defence force is based on the enemy’s capabilities and not intentions,” he said.

Yet for Pakistan to drop its guard against India would require progress on political disputes, including over Kashmir, officials say. “This enforced attention to the western border has made the Pakistan Army reassess its priorities,” said Western military analyst Brian Cloughley.

“But it still does not wish to drop its guard to the east, especially as there is still the threat of a swift and dramatic attack if a terrorist outrage in India is determined by India to have been planned in Pakistan,” he said.

Pak's defences designed to counter threat posed by "India's military offensive capability"...What about Pak's defence against the offensive capability of Nature? Nature has done more damage to Pak than India could 1 million times over.If misplaced priorities and acute psycopathic paranoia deserve a Nobel Prize, then the Pakis win hands down.

can some geologically orientated folks figure out if the flooding is being affected more by goings on in the NA than the regular river flows? is it deforestation? is it glacier tampering? is it building lakes and diverting flows?

the more we find out, the more we see TSPA haath and dragon ungli... something untoward is going on and dragon's fingerprints are all over it and the khakis have sold out their own country men for the pleasure

At least now, having experienced the floods first hand, Pakistanis would be wetting their pants, thinking what it means living next to India which has dams on the rivers passing through their country - How much damage India can do, if India wanted to!

Is that what India means when India says Cold Start? Would India attack by a two-pronged Cold Start?

Animesh - Thanks for posting that link.

As usual its interesting to see - how causally the "beard" at 4:30 mentions that he would like the children to maintain their hatred for the Hindu religion. Sadly the commentator sees absolutely nothing wrong with this - a perfect sign of the bigotry inherent within Pakistani society.

Pakistan: General's Son-In-Law Kidnapped
August 27, 2010 | 1123 GMT

The civilian son-in-law of Gen. Tariq Majid, chairman of the army’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, was kidnapped in Lahore in Punjab province, a senior official said on Aug. 27, heightening concerns about security as Pakistan grapples with floods and militants, Reuters reported. The kidnapping motive is unclear, said Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah.

More deaths feared in Pakistan as flood waters recede
More than 17 million Pakistanis -- about the population of the Netherlands -- have been affected by the monsoon floods that began a month ago.
Homeless families stomped through filthy waters as clean water remains a scarce commodity. Hundreds of thousands of victims have acquired transmittable ailments such as acute watery diarrhea, scabies and respiratory infections.
expected after calamity like floods
Acute malnutrition was high in much of Pakistan even before the floods. For instance, 27 percent of children under 5 in Baluchistan province were malnourished, as were 17 percent of children in Punjab, according to the U.N.
No prizes for guessing which province is better. Now look out for news about begging and children statistics.
At least 200 health facilities across the country have been damaged or destroyed, according to the World Health Organization.
liars- only 200 health care facilities affected. Must be more otherwise how will bakis ask for more money. The CNN report is a conspiracy onlee because of kuffar that too a SDRE.
It is unclear when displaced Pakistanis will be able to return to their homes. But many will have no house to return to. About 1.2 million homes have been destroyed from the flooding.
likely mudhouses in low lying areas built by poor abduls. again the demand for more money by RAPEs.

All in all whatever happens in land of pure, money has to go to the RAPEs as it is written in the holy book and poor abduls know this :(( .
Abduls believe in Allah,
TSPA believe in Amreiki
and Amreki believe in TSPA.
sometimes I wonder who is the donor and who is the receipient.

New Delhi: Government sources have told NDTV that Pakistan has refused to accept flood aid directly from India.
Islamabad wants the aid routed through the United Nations. Government sources indicate that the $5 million in aid will be sent to the UN.

Probably has to do with your browser/operating system/flash plugin. If you need help with that, please post in the IT/Linux thread.
That video is indeed worth a watch! :rotfl:

1) First the paki motorham thinks that India makes these programs only for the pakis! she would probably like to ignore how many of us are sick of those dramas and how cheesy most of them are. But anyway, like a paki's sense of entitlement to all the riches in the world, pakis like to live in delirium that the world revolves around them. India makes star plus programs just to influence paki womrn and children! hahaha...

2) Second I could not but see the irony when the documentary starts with the songs "tip tip barsa paani". Pakis can do with less tip tip these days!

3) Motorham complains about contamination of Urdu by Hindi words. :rotfl:
Why don't poakroaches simply adopt Arabic as their one and only language? Try as much as you want, one of the parents of Urdu is Hindi and guess what, Urdu is an Indian language!

4) I liked how the mullah coolly says that these kinds of shows will reduce our hatred towards Hindus! now a normal society would be happy to see a reduction in hatred among its youth... but we are talking about poakroaches here.

All in all, well worth the watch!

TOI

WASHINGTON: Indian-American US aid chief Rajiv Shah has said that he had to leave a relief camp in flood-hit Pakistan in a hurry, after being threatened by extremist elements present there.

Shah was the topmost US official to visit Pakistan this week in the aftermath of the devastating flood that has engulfed more than one-fifth of the country affecting over 20 million people.

Talking to foreign journalists on his return from Pakistan, Shah, who is Administrator of the US Agency for International Development ( USAID), said the incident happened during his visit to a site in Sukur where the World Food Programme was distributing relief material and was talking to women standing in line.

"I really did want to listen to the people standing in line and learn about how we, together with our partners, can mount the most effective response on their behalf.

I had hoped to spend more time talking to the people in line," he said.

"But within a few minutes of being there, our Diplomatic Security detail informed me that there were some suspicious individuals in the area and we needed to leave.

So we tried to make as graceful and appropriate an exit as possible," Shah said.

"I understand, in this situation and perhaps in others, that TTP (Tehrek-e- Taliban Pakistan) and others have actually been threatening aid relief workers and international aid relief workers," he noted.

"I can't tell you how disappointed and inappropriate that feels, when you've been there and you've talked to people who've literally lost everything and are just trying to survive.

"The fact that suspicious individuals had been in this site, in part because they knew I was coming, and the day before, our security folks who had gone out there, of course, hadn't seen any signs of them, is an indication.

These are open sites. People can get there. The whole point is to have people who are in urgent need come and get food," he said.

"It is deeply saddening that others would choose to use these environments to propagate themselves or to threaten international aid workers.

But, you know, I'm happy that I had a chance to talk to a few women. I would have liked to talk to more. I think the stories you learn from them really motivate and provide information that can help us do a better job. Our goal right now is just to make sure we're feeding and saving as many people as possible," Shah said.

More money.
I agree with shiv here. Nothing of any significant seems to be ruined. This is nothing more than exaggerated irrigation. The so called bridged washed away are 3-foot crossings, a few rocks have failen on kKh. Some random mud huts have lost their thatches. In fact people are likely kicking out the poor to clear out space. Hyderabad sits on the Indus, and has seen nothing. This is all just a long long drama, they could have very well handled this themselves, buts is some weird sort of image deficit repair exercise for all involved.

New Delhi: Government sources have told NDTV that Pakistan has refused to accept flood aid directly from India.
Islamabad wants the aid routed through the United Nations. Government sources indicate that the $5 million in aid will be sent to the UN.

Unbelievable.

You offer a beggar money and then let THEM dictate the terms to you. Wonderful stuff from the government. Jai Ho.

Brilliant! It may well turn out to be exaggerated irrigation. Now wait for the exaggerated drought next year. What would we do without Pakistan?

Leaving MMS types in the Delhi establishment aside...I am sure that we have nationalist types too and culmination of these peoples' thoughts will lead to any decision w.r.t our foreign policy. MMS types will anyway sell of their soul....but don't nationalist types anticipate the outcomes of such decisions (in this case AID to pak)?? these nationalist types must have had their inner desire of supplying relief aid with Made In India directly to pakis.....do they even think that relief aid of 5 million USD to Pak should achieve something in favor of India? if they don't foresee consequences like these(danda in this case) why announce the aid at all?

Another city under assault by Sindhu mata

Another levee breach threatens south Pakistan city
THATTA, Pakistan — Floodwaters made another break Saturday in the levees protecting a southern Pakistani city, as thousands of residents fled for high ground and left the city nearly empty.
I think Thatta is the last place in pak before Sindhu enter the arabian sea.

Well I don't know... desis might have negotiated some favor from unkil in return but who knows. I'd not wonder much on it because it won't be long before the dreaded c-word comes out in this thread.
