From daily times

With such a blinkered worldview there is nothing wrong in engaging in activities that cannot be condemned from a purely religious point of view. There is nothing wrong in match fixing or ball tampering if it does not dissuade an individual from fulfilling one’s obligations to Allah. Further, a victory in sports against the non-believers is a desirable goal and, thus, the rules of the game take a back seat in their priorities.
What are the Pakistani's obligation to allah?(seems like honesty, morality has no value in Pakistani society)

Match Fixing: What's Happening - DT Report
A source in the Pakistan High Commission who is familiar with the high commission’s probe into the match fixing scandal described the face-off between the three accused cricketers and the High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan as more of an “interrogation session” than a briefing, “where the high commissioner pressurised the cricketers to accept their wrongdoing and come clean” the source confirmed.

The three cricketers, Salman Butt (captain), Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir, who are named as the prime suspects in what is described as “the biggest scandal in the sporting world” are said to have broken down in front of the high commissioner and pleaded with him to “rescue them”. The High Commission, in consultation with the PCB and the Foreign Office was the one to ask both the PCB and the three accused to “drop out” of the upcoming T20 and one-day series although Salman Butt, allegedly the ringleader of the gang as the source described it, “wanted to play and looked confident”. “Yes he did dial some 051 and 042 numbers and has called some politicians in Pakistan to rescue them but as far as I know, no one wants to come close to them: it would be political suicide,” the source from the High Commission with an intelligence background confirmed.

In another bizarre incident, the accused are said to have consulted a local PR publicist to counter the media campaign. Daily Times can confirm that at least one of the three players had consulted a barrister specialising in immigration about filing for “political asylum” on the grounds of life threats and prosecution in his homeland.

When contacted, a Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed, “More players could be questioned if there is evidence and we will get to the bottom of this.” On the peculiar silence on the role of the Akmal brothers, Wahab Riaz and Umer Amin, Scotland Yard said, “We are looking into everyone’s role in the scandal.”

AoA!! Ukstan gets more Bakis. 8)

ANALYSIS: Cricket, youth and social responsibility —Dr Hasan-Askari Rizvi
Such incidents can be traced partly to the shift in the Pakistani youth’s mindset over the last two decades from social responsibility and societal good to religious obligations. The Islamic orthodoxy-dominated worldview emphasises an individual’s obligation to God Almighty (Allah) as the primary concern. This requires the strengthening of ties with Allah by pursuing prayers and other basic rituals of Islam. The obligations to the community are secondary and flow completely from an individual’s obligations to Allah. The notion of humanity is replaced with the idealisation of the Muslim community (ummah) and the scope of societal responsibility is articulated with reference to Islam. All matters relating to individual and collective life, and domestic and international politics are viewed as a function of religion.

The News reporter tortured, humiliated after abduction
“I was held in illegal captivity for 6 hours during which I was continuously tortured and humiliated in nude. They stripped me out of my clothes, hanged me upside down and shaved off my head and moustaches,” the senior reporter of the country’s leading English daily recounted.
Umer Cheema quoted the captors as saying: “Do you intend to have Martial Law imposed in the country by publishing anti-government reports?”

He said the captors warned: “Stop writing against the government, if you cannot bear this torture and that Ansar Abbasi will be next target if I failed to stop.” They were also aware of my arriving in Gujranwala, Umer Cheema added.

Dawood Ibrahim. Possibly with the connivance of gulf Sheikhs and their relatives. With the support of iSI and Jamat-ud Dawa?

What's in it for all these parties?

The gulf sheikhs who own private banks are useful to do bank-to bank fund transfers which makes the transfer "legal". Much of it can become the personal wealth of individuals including D company and jernails and be shunted towards terrorism.

The cricketers in the betting scam are only the tip of the iceberg.

From the article:
Although a Pakistan international cricketer might expect to earn about £25,000 a year, that figure is dwarfed by the millions on offer through the IPL. Some commentators this week have suggested that this might be one of the reasons Pakistan's players might have been more open to financial inducements.
See! It is all the evil Yindoos fault! :(( :(( Now hand over IPL contracts and cash...and oh BTW while you are at it, give us Cashmere too :(( :((

The Pakis really take the victim mentality to new heights!

The current case is an example of how Pakistan gets it wrong. There was something tragic and deeply shameful about Pakistan's ambassador to Britain going on TV to stoutly defend the cricketers against whom such a strong prima facie case exists. Worse still, patriotism has suddenly become the last refuge of the cricketing scoundrel. Pakistani papers have blamed the incident on a conspiracy to defame Pakistan, of machinations by Indian bookies and even R&AW! (For the record, Mazher Mehmood, the News of the World journo who broke the story is a British Pakistani.)
Just captures the mood perfectly.

Then goes on to sound scantimonious with the following passage.
Let's stop gloating about the Pakistan cricket scandal. I agree that the evidence seems compelling and I accept that some Pakistanis (administrators, government, media etc.) are behaving like idiots.

But the scandal does not tell us much about the state of the Pakistani nation. All it does is to remind that when modestly remunerated young men are placed in an environment where lakhs can be made off each ball by non-participants in the game, then the temptations placed before them can be irresistible. The only way to ensure honesty in such circumstances is to pay the players well and to then watch them like hawks.

That's what we've done, and so our cricketers play a straight game. But while they go out and bat for India, crores are still made off that game by non-participants: the cricket administrators.

You tell me: do we really have the right to be smug or to feel superior?

Hate to disagree with you of all BRites, but I think there was no need for Vir Sanghvi to drag India, and even worse do an equal equal towards the end. As far as I am concerned, this spot-fixing crap has no bearing on TSP's strategic position visa vi India, and neither have the floods. It should not be on India's radar screen. TSP has its guns pointed at India ready to unload.

Question for you boss. What are the chances of this TSP demand being met by its 3.5?

Call for writing off Pakistan's $55b debt.

I agree. It is not as if Sialkot is as peaceful as heaven.

Thus, I can also understand what got the Pakbarian goat. How can these two brothers commit barbaric crimes without invoking ROP? After all had they done so, it would have been counted as one of the zillions of crimes committed in the name of RoP and forgotten in a few minutes. But these brothers committed secular crime, were not pious, and hence have been punished.

Need further proof...
However, on his intervention the bodies were brought down and people refrained from burning the dead bodies
Clearly the mob, full of pious did not believe that the boys were ROP. Hence the decision to burn..
.
Nuggets
when a pick-up with 8/10 males and 6/8 children turned up on the same link road while returning from a religious gathering
people of the area, general passers-by and the people of village Boottar who were coming back from the city after attending a “Dars-i-Quran’ got assembled outside the building of Rescue 1122
Obviously they were oozing from all pores with spirit of peace, humanity and welfare of all living beings, after attending these gatherings and listening to ROP mullas.

The Pakistanis don't have any intention of ever paying off their external debt. That $55 billion could easily be $550 billion and it won't matter to them. They will continue to get loans and aid under soft terms so its generals and elites can continue to buy arms and live high off the hog. Even their treasury is in effect a personal bank account for the leadership.

A dated report - on how the Chicoms and Pakis are collaborating hi-tech criminal efforts.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... ppers.html

Chip and pin scam 'has netted millions from British shoppers'

A sophisticated "chip and pin" scam run by criminal gangs in China and Pakistan is netting millions of pounds from the bank accounts of British shoppers, America's top cyber security official has revealed.

Published: 4:31PM BST 10 Oct 2008
Dr Joel Brenner, the US National Counterintelligence Executive, warned that hundreds of chip and pin machines in stores and supermarkets across Europe have been tampered with to allow details of shoppers' credit card accounts to be relayed to overseas fraudsters.

These details are then used to make cash withdrawals or siphon off money from card holders' accounts in what is one of the largest scams of its kind.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph, America's counterintelligence chief said: "Previously only a nation state's intelligence service would have been capable of pulling off this type of operation. It's scary."

ISI and Chicom intel siphoning of money for terrorist activities?

An organised crime syndicate is suspected of having tampered with the chip and pin machines, either during the manufacturing process at a factory in China, or shortly after they came off the production line.

In what is known as a "supply chain attack", criminals managed to bypass security measures and doctor the devices before they were dispatched from the factories where they were made.

The machines were opened, tampered with and perfectly resealed, said Dr Brenner, "so that it was impossible to tell even for someone working at the factory that they had been tampered with." They were then exported to Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium.

An investigation launched by Mastercard International is understood to have discovered several of the corrupted machines at British branches of Asda and Sainsbury's.

In all, hundreds of devices in Britian and other affected countries had been copying the account details and pin numbers of thousands of credit and debit cards over the past nine months and transmitting the data via mobile phone networks to underworld electronic experts in Lahore, Pakistan.

Once MasterCard had uncovered the scam it alerted stores which set about examining tens of thousands of chip and pin machines to find out which ones had been tampered with.

The corrupted devices are an extra three to four ounces heavier because of the additional parts they contain, and the simplest way to identify them has been to weigh them.

A MasterCard International investigator said: "As recently as a month ago, there were several teams of people roaming around Europe putting the machines on scales and weighing them. It sounds kind of old school, but the only other way would be to tear them apart."

The Chinese scam, which the investigator said had creamed tens of millions of pounds from British and other European accounts, came to light at the start of the year. MasterCard's network experts picked up anomalies in charges being levied on its card holders and those from other issuers, including Visa, which suggested fraudulent activity.

They realised that card details were being stolen and used to produce "white"- or cloned - cards, which were in turn used to fund purchases from countries around the world. Sometimes the criminals used them to make "card-not-present" transactions – by phone or internet – for goods or services, often travel tickets.

On other occasions they would simply withdraw cash. The illicit transactions took place at least two months after the information had been stolen, making it difficult for investigators to work out what had happened.

But after six months of fruitless investigation, investigators spotted an attempt at a similar fraud on a card which had only been used in one location in Britain. The chip and pin machine from the particular store was passed to MasterCard's international fraud lab in Manchester for inspection.

Dr Brenner, whose job is to unify counter-intelligence policy and strategy among the CIA, the FBI and US defence establishment, said the scam should act as a wake-up call to chip and pin machine manufacturers. "They have to do more testing. They have to guard that supply chain in ways that people guard the movement of jewellery, because this is value," said Dr Brenner, who now has a group of experts dedicated to analysing this kind of threat.

Shoppers at Asda in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, last month reported that their cards had been used to make unauthorised withdrawals overseas after they had visited the store. One customer said 25 withdrawals from his account, totalling £1,400, had been made in the US and Pakistan.

In a statement MasterCard UK said: "We are not able to comment on specific cases or give out any details as to their specific fraud investigations."

The Metropolitan Police referred all enquiries about the scam to Apacs, the banking payments association, which sponsors the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit investigating card fraud in the UK. A spokesman for Apacs said: "We have no evidence, data or intelligence pointing to a Chinese link to chip and pin fraud." A spokesman for Asda said: "We are not aware of any new units being compromised." A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "We have not had any issues with chip and pin machines being compromised at the point of manufacture."

Seven killed, four injured in US drone strike in North Waziristan
A US drone strike has killed seven more people, including some suspect terrorists, and has left four others wounded, at Maizer village in North Waziristan.

This was the third strike by US drones in Pakistan in a span of 24 hours, The News quoted government officials, as saying.

Two missiles were fired at a double-cabin pick-up truck, which was reportedly carrying militants at Maizer village of Dattakhel area in North Waziristan, said tribal sources.

Pakistan wants Law Minister Sanaullah ousted for links with terrorists: Taseer
Lahore, Sept 5 (ANI): The Governor of Pakistan's Punjab province, Salmaan Taseer, has claimed that the entire country wants Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah removed, for having links with terrorists.

Taseer added that the entire nation was now aware of Sanaullah's alleged relations with militants and wanted him to be removed.
The law minister himself has terror links. Not news worthy in a nation like TSP where every one and his uncle is connected to one terrorist or other.

Floods Give Renewed Clout to Pakistan Army
By REUTERS

Filed at 4:14 a.m. ET

MULTAN, Pakistan (Reuters) - The message in black Urdu lettering on a white sack of supplies for flood relief says it all: "In tough times, the Pakistan Army is with you."

The powerful military has taken the lead in providing relief -- dwarfing the civilian government -- and in doing so has greatly enhanced its prestige and influence.

And while nobody expects it to take over, the renewed clout of the army is perhaps the biggest political change brought by the floods, one likely to define its relationship with, and leverage over, the civilian government for years to come.

"The military has in fact expanded its interests through the distribution of relief aid," said defense analyst Ayesha Siddiqa. "There is nothing today which does not fall within the military's purview."

But in the flood relief it has become very visible as the only national institution with the manpower, the organizational skills and the equipment -- including helicopters and boats -- to help some 20 million affected by the floods.
That is in stark contrast to the sluggish response of the civilian government, and the departure of President Asif Ali Zardari on a visit to France and Britain when the floods began.

Technically, the army is working on the orders of the government, and at the operational level, civilian and military authorities are working together closely.

"There is co-operation going on at every level," says Brigadier Zahid Usman at a field turned helicopter base in the town of Jampur in south Punjab. "We know where they are going; they know where we are going."

But the subtlety of that message is often lost in a country where much of the media
The next election is not due until 2013 and the main opposition leader, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, has shown no inclination to try to take power. He also has reasons to be wary of the military -- he was ousted in the 1999 coup.

But in the meantime, some officials speak privately about the possibility of a realignment among political parties to weaken Zardari, who cannot be dismissed by constitutional means.

What is clear, however, is that the popular refrain in the last years of Musharraf's rule -- that "the worst democracy is better than the best dictatorship" -- has lost its sheen.

And the army, which has ruled Pakistan on-and-off since independence in 1947, has been able to present itself again as the savior of the country. Or as a banner says on one of the colorfully painted trucks packed with relief supplies: "The Pakistan Army and the people are together."

Feast for the pak lurkers eyes

India's RAW accept its role in Pakistan Cricket 'Spot-Fixing' Scandal

Hold your breath. What I am going to tell you is something you have never imagined.

Yes, India's RAW Agency is behind the current 'Spot-fixing' scandal involving three Pakistan cricketers, Test Capitan Salman Butt, pacers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer. It took Pakistan High Commissioner to Britan Wajid S Hassan courage to expose India's sinister design...............

And here's more you can think of RAW involvement in Pakistan Internal Affairs. Just few days ago Pakistan was suffering from their worst water shortage in history. Actually RAW Agency has built an invisible dam on the Indian side of rivers to block the flow of waters to Pakistan. On their wimp and wisp, they can anytime break down this invisible dam to flood Pakistan. And this is exactly what happened in Pakistan. One-fifth of Pakistan has been flooded by waters.

This part must hurt the paki H&D:
It is hard to think, when you look at today’s Pakistan team, that Pakistani cricketers were such sex symbols in India in the 1980s that Imran Khan was able to brag to an interviewer “Indian actresses are chickens. They just want to get laid” (In all fairness, Imran later said he had been misquoted.) Get laid by today’s team? You must be joking. Even the Pakistani playboys who are still around no longer seem exciting or glamorous. Poor Imran just looks tired. And the rest look like Asif Zardari — pretty much the archetypal glamorous Pakistani of the Eighties — though perhaps not as disgustingly sleazy.

I believe - without evidence - that the massive cricket fraud is used for money laundering and money transfer by interests that use some of this money in anti-India activities. This Guardian story was already noted:

Indian judge alleges betting rings are supporting terrorism

Therefore a deeper dive into the gambling world, especially the establishment in Pakistan on this thread, is IMO, entirely justified.
