Sodhi and Asher got Silver onlee :(

Cant believe that feeling sad for India getting a silver in a multi-nation event...guess just shows the slow rise of India in some events where we expect the best nowadays unlike earlier..

daymn just one point loss in double trap pairs..still a medal any medal helps the dharmic cause.

cong(I) has vast experience in trucking in rural people for boat club rallies and such. all a question of whether to spend that money or not. the
rented spectators might actually be quite unruly esp in events in swimming or gymnastics where 'gori flesh' would be seen. probably safer not
to rent anyone for such events.

ACGA to take action against Fkiri: Aus Sports Minister
Terming the Australian wrestler Hassene Fkiri's indecent behaviour during the 96kg title bout in Commonwealth Games as "unfortunate", the country's Sports Minister Mark Arbib on Wednesday said the CWG Association back home has decided to take action against him.

"Australian Commonwealth Games Association today decided to take some action against our wrestler, it was an unfortunate action on his part," Arbib, who is here for the October 3-14 event, told reporters.

ACGA held meetings following Fkiri's behaviour during the gold medal bout against India's Anil Kumar on Tuesday.

During the bout, Fkiri was cautioned thrice by the umpire for dangerous play. But the Australian repeated the mistake, forcing the umpire to disqualify him and ask to leave the mat.

While leaving, Fkiri showed the middle finger to his opponent and the judges which eventually cost him his silver medal.

TV host calls Delhi CM ‘Dick-shit’

Wellington, October 06, 2010

A New Zealand television station has suspended its breakfast show host Paul Henry for mispronouncing Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s name several times in a crude manner.

Henry’s slurs featured as a clip on TVNZ website in which he ridicules the name of Commonwealth Games troubleshooter Sheila Dikshit.

The Video Extras section of TVNZ’s website promoted the Dikshit clip, which now appears to have been removed, under the heading “Paul Henry laughs about the name Dikshit”, Stuff.co.nz reports.

“The dip shit woman. God, what’s her name? Dick Shit. Is it Dick Shit ... it looks like ‘Dick Shit’. It’s so appropriate, because she’s Indian, so she’d be dick-in-shit wouldn’t she, do you know what I mean? Walking along the street ... it’s just so funny,” Henry said.

TVNZ has received at least four complaints about the clip, in which Henry deliberately mispronounces Dikshit, despite being told.

New Zealand Indian Central Association president Paul Singh Bains said the fact TVNZ was still promoting the clip on its website showed it had “totally lost the plot” and was insensitive to the offence Henry had caused.

He said that had been worsened by subsequent comments in which Henry said Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand did not look nor sound like a New Zealander.

8th Gold, 50m Rifle, Omkar Singh. Looks like shooting is going to be India's favorite Olympic sports in times to come.

Boxing is yet to start. Lets see what we do in boxing. That is another very interesting area for India

By the way what is the standard of competition in CWG in the overall Olympic games circuit. Looking at the best haul of 69 medals for India looks like it is a fairly easy competition. We should look at competition in Asiad also

CWG is close to Olympics, but not quite as high (maybe 80-85% of Olympic levels)
i guess the main missing contenders are the USA, Ru and China
but many of the EU and CAR nations also pick up lots of medals

interestingly, our luge dood came 28th or something in the vancouver winter olympics but was only about 0.5 secs off the gold medal speed... scary

Indian wrestler Rajender registered straight win in two sets over his opponent and assured at least a silver by making to the finals in the the 55-kg category. Manoj Kumar also entered the finals without even facing challenges from his opponent, as the Pakistani grappler didn't turn up for the fight. The two wrestlers have ensured at least two silver medals in wrestling, but they would definitely go in for a kill for the ultimate glory- Gold!

Two other Indian greco roman wrestlers have lost their bouts :(

No,I've posted info from our local TV channels too on the CWG fiasco! "A picture speaks a thousand words",and this was a report within 24 hrs of the track and field events taking off, which showed the stadium resembling a contruction site, grass being laid,a dozen idle workers sitting on some sheets, the track being repaired in everal places,,etc, etc.

Here's a great video clip of Kalmadi report on how "Prince Diana..." was present at the opening ceremony! He must be in an acute mental state of mind having to face the media every day and BS to the media on how everything but for some "small" matters, is OK.

Great show athletes, kudos to Indian medallists! After all this is what the Games is all about, the sportsmen and women who take part. They are the heroes and the likes of Kalamadi & co. the zeroes

PS:Winston Churchill.....
"When I am abroad, I always make it a rule never to criticize or attack the government of my own country. I make up for lost time when I come home."

If nothing else, there might be the "handlers" from different agencies to ensure that few of these "athletes" disappear inside India in different nom-de-guerre for the service of Poakland, like what happened with the Paki "tourists" in the last Indo-Pak cricket series in Desh

prasanta kumar is first ever swimming medal
meanwhile manjit kaur has qualified to next round of 400m - coming first
(another indian lady qualified in previous heat, missed her name)
more depressingly, looking at the ladies 50m butterfly timings - the leaders are clocking 30-31s and the best Indians are clocking 35-36s
big gap

quershi equals indian national record (10.3s), just pipped by the bahamian to qualify
he might make it as fastest losing qualifiern still

England is tied with India. But remember that they separated Wales, Scotland, and Isle of Man from England. So if it was just UK, UK would be ahead of India. So we still have a long way to go.
