Post by Rahul M »

the ladies missed silver by a whisker, they were well ahead till the last couple of seconds when the silver medalist accelerated from behind.

in hockey we are going down 2-1 to england. absolutely moronic tactics by the coach, they were dominating entire first half when they suddenly went into a shell and allowed one in at the last moment. another penalty corner in 2nd half has eng leading by 2-1.

india - england hockey going to extra time, 2 classy goals by India pull the score back to 3-1 when england looked home and dry

its golden goal time now, so very risky...

Great performance in the 4 x 400m

BBC commentators saying they have never heard an atmosphere like this in an athletics arena. Top stuff. It sounded like a Sachin century listening on tv.

Chetan leading with 16-14. Another close games. There is not much support from the crowd here.

Tomorrow lot of boxing and shooting. So let's expect a lot of gold. Also what's the chance of a gold in hockey against Aussies. The kind of spirit is very high. Aussies are also the same. So what's the chances any experts?

very difficult but not impossible. we have to play intelligently and make no mistakes. unlike the poms the aussies won't allow you to come back if you make mistakes.

May be more. That's for sure. But I'm more worried about gold to stay ahead of England.

Englandistanis are now whining about hockey penalty. From Al-Beeb
Acrimony over England-India shoot-out

England's men's hockey team are not impressed by the umpires in their defeat by India. This was alluded to in one or two texts and tweets earlier - if you watch Arjun Halappa's penalty, India's fourth, that's the one England say was against the rules and should have been disallowed.

"The way he dragged the ball for five yards, it seeemed the rule had been changed," is the verdict of England's Richard Alexander. "It was unbelievable. It was up to the umpires to stand up and take a call. We are pretty annoyed that there is no video technology. That one goal changed the game. We invested our lives into the game and then to lose like this really hurts."

LOTS of track and field medals today:

Women's 4x400m : GOLD
Women's 4x100m : Bronze
Men's 4x100m : Bronze
Men's Javelin : Bronze (Kashinath Naik)
Men's Triple Jump : Bronze (Renjith Maheshwary)

After decades of remembering a solitary medal (or narrowly missed, as in Milkha Singh at 1960 Olympics), it's hard to wrap one's head around so much achievement, including in TFTA events like Javelin and Discus.

India seem to have arrived finally in sports, despite lacking in widespread sports infra. The next ten years money should be spent on improving this and we shall see better results even at the Olympic level. All those jingos who said Athletics (gati) ones are not for India, should eat crow soup as penance. ;-)
