I think we can safely say the CWG was indeed a Coming Out Party. However, not for Delhi, not for the old farts who ran/run the show, guys who can't even run to the bathroom to take a crap. It was also not a coming out party for great but suave sportsmen like Bindra.

It was a COMING OUT PARTY for these unheralded youngsters, mostly from the countryside, young men and especially women, to whom winning meant everything because they have the hunger. Its not often I've heard hardboiled jingos on this forum admit that they cried profusely.

But I must say that video of the relay race gave me the goosebumps (and watery eyes), especially the third runner. When she saw it was slipping away with the Nigerian moving away, the way she gave a kick forward was awesome. And to think that the commentators were commenting on that Sally what's her name Aussie who was doing some nautanki after coming in fifth or so. The do or die was done by the Indians, they went in front only from the third home stretch.

4X 400 - Third lap of relay is supposed to be weak but our wimmen did not believe in it. they did well in the third lap. in the forth lap the nigerian wanted to overtake but the punjabi sohni kudi did not allow the nigerian to do so.

Not good: Unnamed Indian track and field athlete tests positive

The Commonwealth Games Federation says an unnamed Indian track and field athlete has tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone.

The athlete is the third to be caught for doping at the games. Two Nigerian runners were found to be positive for the banned stimulant Methylhexaneamine, with Osayomi Oludamola being stripped of her gold medal in the women's 100-meter race. Hurdler Samuel Okon also tested positive.

Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell says he cannot yet name the athlete because he is not sure the person has been notified of the positive result.

He says "all we can tell you is it is in the sport of athletics and the country is India."

Apologize for posting this, but TimesNow is reporting that an Indian athlete has failed Dope test and they are awaiting the results of B sample before announcing the name.
TimesNow is showing the 4x400 pictures while carrying this breaking news.

Added later: Allah is gracious, it seems it is not Medal winning athlete

Who is the athlete? The CWG Chief Mike Fenell is an idiot. He should ensure that the athlete is notified first before announcing it to the world.

The gora press is milking this to hilt.

More on the report.If the name is withheld it might be because of an appeal as sometimes medicine taken for minor ailments can carry traces of a banned substance.Until the CGF is absolutely sure,why should an athlete come under a cloud?AS for Indian athletes/sportsmen and women taking drugs,we've a poor track record with some disciplines and drug taking is rampant worldwide.

One Indian athlete has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance. The name of the athlete has been withheld by the CGF. The 'B' sample report is still awaited for further confirmation.

An Indian athlete has failed the dope test at the Commonwealth Games, CWG Federation president Michael Fennell said.

"We got the reports of the doping test late last (Tuesday) night. We have informed the Indian chef de mission at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) about the athlete testing positive for a drug," he said.

The athlete has been named as Rani Yadav, who finished 6th in the women's 20km walk. She has been provisionally suspended from the result list, pending the B sample analysis.

we stand a reasonable chance of finishing 2nd in the rankings now... good luck to all of today's competitors
whilst the press have already started dismissing the games as 2nd rung, it has been a huge boost to our athletes, to compete at an international level and to win
this will do their confidence a lot of good, and we should have a good crack at the olympics
10-12 medals may not be unreasonable in 2012

We're well on our way to winning the Test match. I would be fab if we win in the hockey final too! Would compensate grandly for all the nonsense the Aussie media wrote over the past month or so.

instead of quietly accepting our SDRE fate of paltry rankings, we are currently anxious to see if we can beat a T(F/D)TA nation in the rankings and take 2nd place in the overall rankings

we have had teams in almost all events, in our core events we have good success, in many others we have gone from 'also rans' to creditable middle ranks, and in some events we have shown up and been counted (e.g. rugby 7's) where we have no pedigree

massive improvement all round

well done to all the participants and competitors!

(another 2 days and we can start disecting kalamundi)

Earlier we were not sending such large contingent to these games for want of FUND. and being jealous sports officials would not allow more to go phoren , less players and more officials. That prevented exposure.

We are winning despite kallu mama and his ilk.

New Delhi: After some hair-raising and heart-warming wins in Hockey and Athletics on Tuesday, India's sportspersons take the field all set to garner greater glory as the hosts eye another 11 gold medals in the final two days of the Commonwealth Games.

India's shooters will hope for a final flourish with at least two Gold medal chances on Wednesday with Heena Sidhu the favourite to win the Women's 10m Air Pistol event, and Gagan Narang eyeing his fifth yellow metal in the 50m Rifle Prone event. Melbourne Games' hero Samresh Jung, who is participating only in two events this time, will hope to hit the bulls eye in the 25m Standard Pistol individual event.

Even though India's boxers have disappointed the fans, there are still three in the fray in the title rounds. Suranjoy Singh in the 52kg category, Manoj Kumar in the 64kg and Paramjeet Samota in the 91kg category will look to outpunch their opponents and add another three gold medals to India's tally this evening.

India can also expect two more gold from their shuttlers who have been in supreme form throughout the competition.

Saina Nehwal will take on Mew Choo Wong in the final of the women's singles event, while the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will look to seal the gold in the women's doubles event.

India's paddlers too are within striking distance of a couple of gold medals with Achanta Sharath Kamaland Soumyadeep Roy both in the semis of the men's singles event, while Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das are in the semi-final of the women's doubles event.

The big medal match though is slated for Thursday when India take on Australia in the final of the Men's hockey event. This is one game and one medal that will really put the icing on the cake for India. And for once, the organisers' much-mouthed statement that 'this will be best games ever', might just actually come true.

So what of India’s Commonwealth Games?

With everything that’s gone on in Delhi, I’m happy to say that Tuesday was a great day for the Indians. They came out in force to support their athletes and they were rewarded for their faith.

I'll even go so far as to say the athletics competiton has saved these Games.

Krishna Poonia led a podium sweep for India in the women's discus, but more importantly India's 4x400m women's relay quartet won their country's first Commonwealth Games track title since Milkha Singh won the 440 yards gold in 1958.

They also picked up medals in both of the sprint relays.

It has shown the Indians themselves that they can excel. I hope that after these Games they will start to believe that they can be a successful nation in track and field.

I salute everybody who took part in these Commonwealth Games. It’s been a fantastic competition. For the spirit displayed and people just going out there and achieving.

If nothing else we’ll leave New Delhi with new names to look out for in the coming years and new heroes to follow.
