a bit strange since the saudis have also signed a deal to upgrade their E3's to a newer standard.

perhaps its a way of subsidizing the pakis by stationing it in pakistan with a saudi offshore unit kind of singapore or germany having permanent detachments in usa.

Guys,

I have had the naging doubt in my head ever since I first saw the concept sketch of the DRDO AEW. That it is a copy of the erieye as implimented for the SIVAM programme.

I know that there are some diffrences betweent the two. Such as the DRDO system having 360 deg ability as compared to 240 for the Erieye. But my doubts persist.

Some interesting write up on Tu-214SR Special Mission Aircraft

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT FOR TU-214

Pics Tu-214SR 1
Pics Tu-214SR 2
a month ago these airplanes proved their worth in a long-haul mission when they flew 13 hours non-stop, over the Far East, Extreme North, then Moscow and back to Kazan. That time everything worked well, and according to the specification.

Taiwanese Defense Ministry to Review French-built Fighter Jets
Image
Taiwanese Defense Ministry to Review French-built Fighter Jets
Taipei, Oct.18, 2010 (CNA)

By Emmanuelle Tzeng and Lilian Wu

National Defense Minister Kao Hua-chu said Monday that he will ask for an overall review of the country's French-made Mirage fighter jets after a lawmaker pointed out that the flight hours of the fighters have been reduced due to concern about a possible engine problem.

Legislator Lin Yu-fang of the ruling Kuomintang told a legislative committee that during maintenance operations in May 2009, the Engine Rotors were Found to have Cracks, Resulting in Reduced flying hours.

In May this year, a Mirage Fighter Jet belonging to the French Air Force crashed in southwestern France, possibly due to the same engine fault.

For this reason, the total flying hours of Taiwan's Mirage jets were reduced to less than 5,000 this year from the original target of more than 10,000 hours.

"The flying hours of the Mirage pilots were also reduced from the standard 15 hours per month to 10 hours, even lower than the 12 hours per month logged by Chinese fighter jet pilots, " Lin said, adding that this has affected the nation's air defenses.

Taiwan purchased 60 Mirage-2000s fighter jets from France in 1992, the last batch of which was delivered in 2001.

Fifty-six of the planes remain in service, with four having been lost in crashes.

Some astonishing figures ! Looks like they're getting an unbelievably large number of weapons to stockpile for a possible future confrontation with Iran. They're getting the AIM-9X and AIM-120-C7 variant..the bhikhaaris next door got the AIM-9M and AIM-120-C5. Anyway, a total bonanza for the US and its weapons suppliers.

most likely these munition stockpiles are for US use but paid for by saudi money and held in saudi facilities. works out cheaper for US than maintaining all its own stockpiles there. recyling of petro dollars + less opex.

anyone know how good the "kongsberg NSM" missile is. euro fanboys are fond of claiming in web fora that its the bestest missile around and all others are obsolete. ofcourse its left as an exercise for the operator how a low flying IIR missile will pickup targets at long range ... I see people still buying harpoons in droves ... so what gives?

Boeing Chinook Pilot Reaches 10K Flight Hours
Image
"That’s a lot of Helicopter Time," said Jack Jordan, Boeing’s CH-47 Test Pilot, on reaching the 10,000 hour flight milestone.

" It’s better than spending an entire year of your life in the sky."

In Fact, It is the Equivalent of Spending 24 Hours per day, Every Day in the Air, for More than a Year.
10,000 Hours = 416 days

1 Year = 365 days

With his feet firmly on the ground¸ Jack Jordan stands in front of one of his favorite aircraft¸ the CH-47F Chinook.

seems UK's combat system to control the aster missiles + Sampson radar on T45 ships is undergoing tests. I would not hazard to guess with what the T45 is actually running with today - a couple of bren guns and the main cannon maybe? this is not a peripheral thing...seems no harpoon asm's either to save on cost.

then why build such a giant ship ? a 3000t FFG would have sufficed...built the villa but no $$ to live in it properly

I was some what surprised while watching this Sukhoi Superjet Video , the test pilot mentioned that in one of the AOA test they switched off some instrument ( presumably that overrides normal FBW ) then puts the Superjet through an AOA of 34 to 35 degree and it controlled well and did not stall , though in normal passenger flight it will be soft limited to 11 degrees AOA

It is normal for civilian aircraft to be designed with such high AOA ?
Isn't Civilian Test pilot job much more riskier than military ones considering they do not have any ejection seat for emergency ?

Watch it in HD

Good in context of noise in areas with deep fiords and consequential
requirement to cope with unique reflection characteristics. Else pass time

A new derivative of Igla-S Manpads "Barnaul" ( via WAFF )

1. New laser targeting feature, including laser rangefinder. No more waiting for chirps from the missile. The soldier can now look at a display and know if the target is in range and locked.
2. New thermal imager channel good to 8km
3. New IFF interrogator. Over half the airplanes lost in Georgia in 2008 were shot down by friendly fire due to MANPADS with no IFF interrogators installed on them.
4. Fully integrated with C2I systems so when the MANPAD operator finds a target the info is transferred automatically up the chain of command. The system comes with a GLONASS locator

The Government deliberately suppresses or falsifies information on UFO , Perhaps to avoid panic or they dont have a clue themself

for A2G it might be possible earlier, but for A2A the idea of distant AWACS controlling swarms of long range UCAVs is still decades away imo...

on dpsa missions without awacs inputs, it will need a full fledged AI brain to survive a multitude of threats and make human quality decisions...

Sir, I remember seeing such wing design in a book related to design of F22s. Perhaps that was Lockheed's Shun Works. I barely could remember it.
