Looks all right to me. :-?
Notice that the back of the helmet is slightly curved to a lower position in the first picture. So it could not have been worn backwards.
BTW, can anyone id the unit? The Naga regiment of 66 Mountain Brigade was one of the unit that had participated in the excercise. But these soldiers carry different gear from them. Are they Para?

I do not know about this particular case, but talking in general terms, IA has a very robust intelligence setup in J&K. For eg: JAKLI TA is mostly comprised of ex-militants who are very highly regarded for their information gathering capabilities.
I guess that BSF and J&K police also employ similar methods.
Ex-militants or military?

Ex-militants. IIRC, J&K police also employ ex-militants. BSF also has a very good intelligence network but I am not sure whether they employ ex-militants or not.

Just look at above photograph and rainy wears of our soldiers. It just look plain hilirious in this modern age to wear something like this, heck even soldiers of World Wars had better gears when it comes to dealing with wet conditions.
I know, plain bloody hilarious. Not to mention, as far as I know, ALL the living soldiers in World War II had heads. Look carefully, it appears one of our soldiers has been sent on patrol without his/her head even... what a shame...

It is always good to meet another LOTR nerd. :D

Back to the topic, I have never heard of jawans having any problem with these raincoats. The only nitpick that one can make is that these raincoats are a lot heavier than those we frail civilians use. But considering how rugged they need to be, this is not even an issue.

Gaur,

what you saw in the videos posted earlier was a prelude to the "interaction" with our special forces.

That was a warm up with elements of 2 Naga who were armed with standard IA infantry issue - INSAS , INSAS LMG , Assault rifle ( black furniture with telescopic sight capable of full auto and drum magazines. For extended firepower they also carried the OFB's Milkor MGL derived multishot grenade launcher.

The Indian SF we see seem to resemble the Golani brigade in their equipment fit.

ponchos are also used as ground sheets or bivouacs when out in the field, they have many uses... hence their sturdiness
and if engaged, can be easily thrown off to allow the soldier freedom of movement

anybody who has trudged through mud and rain or done any camping can tell you that those thick sheets are far more effective than any fancy raincoat.

Do Indian Tavors even use Trijicon sights? :-?
AFAIK, Indian Tavors always use MARS sight as its optics. Nothing particularly "designated marksman version" about it.

The BSF intel wing wing( G-Branch) was particularly feared in J&K for its effectiveness ( The current CRPF problems in J&K are due to lack of good CRPF intel branch). They seemed to be more reliant on TECHINT rather than informers , IMHO...

Well its a designated marksman because of the bipod. The STAR-21 usually comes with Trijicon opitcal but it may also be one that uses the MARS red dot.

A designated marksman after all is supposed to be a squad integral sniper-lite who is also capable of laying down standard fare. So bipod Tavor qualifies as "designated marksman version".

there is a lot of similarity between the story of origin of the orcs and pakis. orcs are after all descended from elves who were tortured to that hideous condition.

It crossed my mind that with a statement like this you don't even deserve to be a BRFite, therefore the mods on request give your IP address, you get tracked, pulled out into the street, stripped naked, video'd before been shot.

But then I realized that your statement was probably pun intended!

The one below? A tank that uses a 120 mm rifled bore for its main gun?

A tipper being off loaded from a M1-26 helicopter at a remote area of Reasi district in J&K.

Indian Air Force’s MI-26 helicopter took off from the Technical Airport Jammu this morning with Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Northern Railways, R K Gupta and senior officers of the Konkan Railways Corporation Limited (KRCL) on board and airlifted heavy machinery like dozer, tipper and excavator etc in two sorties to Surukote area of the Reasi district where the Northern Railways has already constructed a helipad with the assistance of local populace.

This was for the first time in the history of the Indian Railways that Indian Air Force help had to be sought to airlift machinery for the construction activities. As soon as the machinery was off loaded from the helicopter, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Northern Railways performed ‘pooja’ and got the road construction work formally started from Dugga towards Sangaldan.

An Indian army soldier stands guard outside as Kashmiri separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, unseen, launches a signature campaign on a petition to President Barack Obama in Srinagar, India, Sunday, Oct.24, 2010. The petition sought intervention by Obama on the long standing Kashmir dispute ahead of his upcoming visit to India. The conflict over Kashmir has been the main source of friction between India and Pakistan since they won independence from Britain in 1947.

^^I would expect the cage around the pilots and the frame to be metal - so metal must be yellow.

As shiv mentioned, the yellow frame visible across the fuselage is metal, while the golden-brown looks like composite. Based on this diagram for Dhruv, it seems the grey is also composite (of different formula).
