Indian Army: News & Discussion
Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
^^
You misunderstood me. Why would "India" want to construct training facilities for Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is as much a langotia yaar with Pakistan as one can be. They had even helped Pak during 1971 war. Naturally, Pakistan has extremely close military ties with SA.

^^ Engage and wean them away from Pakistan, perhaps?
Realistically, U.S. pressure on both India and KSA.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
well, perhaps al saud does not trust either the chowkidars he has received from langoti yaar or does not rate their capabilities? or keeps them in their harem in riyadh to entertain the nobility
Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
Lalmohan is right. BTW despite all the yarana, the Arabs dont trust TSP cooks in their kitchens.

Three of the leaders have made a difference in Saudi. One is Jaswant singh. Second is E Ahmed. The third was Manmohan sings trip to Saudi Arabia. It been 10 years of engagement to make a difference. Also, the US action in India acts as an pointer to rest of the world.
===== Corrected from Abdulla Kutty to E Ahmed. Thanks Hiten.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
its also an indication that house of saud which knows that they are who they are thanks to unkil can no longer trust the TSPA as their hired guns... which means that they think that the TSPA == al-qaeda
quite significant IMO

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
Good news. This is something I have been harping about for a long time. Who better to ask help for mountain warfare than the Indian army who have been slugging it out in the mountains for the last 6 decades.
BR Ahead of the curve as always.
Let's see what the analysts say. Think about it, they had the french, americans, paki's, morroccans in. They still couldn't defeat the Houthi's.
They had an absolute ass kicking. So there is a lot of re-organising going on within the saudi national guard.
Why now?
Saudi's are really worried about Yemen. Its becoming a TSP type platform for KSA. Where AQAP is using yemen as a base for training and launching attacks in the Kingdom
And for the last maybe 5 or 6 months, KSA is building up purchases for action in Yemen. KSA will intervene to help keep AQAP out and protect the current Saleh regime in yemen.
Now this is just the first step. Indian army will become advisors to the MoD of KSA. The fact that KSA wants a mountain school means, they want India's expertise for a long period.
Of course, GoI will ask for a lot of $$$ if they were smart.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
An excellent interview by Gen V K Singh. He talks about Adarsh Scam (obviously), how to preserve ethos in IA, promotion policy, Infiltration and IASF in Afghanistan among other things.
http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/news/a ... ent/174934
The COAS has really tried his best to handle the image beating that IA has taken due to Adarsh scam. Even in his other interviews (and he is giving many post adarsh scam), he has been giving really honest and intelligent answers.

Yes. And it riles me that folks want to tar the whole insititution at the drop of a hat.
Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
^^^How many here remember the controversy about date of birth of General VK Singh when Deepak Kapoor was COAS and Avdesh Prakash was Military Secretary? And when, inspite of knowing that VK Singh was most lkely to become COAS, Deepak Kapoor got Lt. General Bhardwaj as VCOAS - a post normaly reserved for COAS designate to help him learn the ropes of South Block?
Guess, it's things coming full circle for General Deepak Kapoor.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
My one concern is in the zeal to clean house, there shouldnt be precedent to have police perosnnel(CBI etc.) question senior military officers. I think the chief Gen Singh should think it over before getting gung ho on going after former chiefs.
The precedence issue already is very bad. No need for self goals.
And Surya could stop making such remarks.
You have some standing unlike others.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
People might call me insensitive but imho more than Deepak Kapoors or NC Vijs what IA should be concerned about is the clearance given to a 'civilian' structure in the close proximity of the defense station in Colaba in all this ruckus we seem to missed the fundamental fact that objections raised from within the certain quarters of IN/IA are not with regards to the ownership of the flats but at the very presence of a 30+ storey building in close proximity of the defense station I don't see how the situation would have been any better if the flats would have been actually allotted to the family members of the Kargil martyrs , you see rules and laws cannot be applied selectively the family members of the bereaved could have been easily allocated flats in any other location in India the very fact that an already cramped and expensive Colaba area was chosen to settle the family members casts doubts over the very intention behind the Adarsh residency. Announcing welfare schemes or even flats for family of the armed forces personnel is all fine and dandy but one cannot violate basic protocols and undermine security concerns in the name of a noble cause for in the end one may end up risking the security of both the beneficiary as well as compromise the security apparatus like in this case.

Now Unnithan should have dug deeper and traced back some of these guys -
People like these Generals and Admirals do not become corrupt overnight.
like crime which starts with small acts of vandalism etc this starts with little things - gifts for contracts, favors etc.
So while Gen VK singh is a good man - not sure how these other little acts will be controlled is not clear.
it all requires personal integrity
And yes one should hound these guys out setting an example - and allowing the vast majority of uniformed men who serve the country honesty to retain the one thing they have had - Honour

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion
Absolutely, and IN has been complaining about this for the longest time.negi wrote: the very presence of a 30+ storey building in close proximity of the defense station
The initial idea was a 6 story humble building for the noble purpose, what ever permissions were given by IA initially were for this structure.
The mess is because the whole thing changed step by step as the files made their way through the Maha Govt.

Recently English language classes were also started at the Embassy with the assistance of officers of Indian Military Training Team.

Ex-army men run BRTS with military precision
Link
Link
After serving in the Indian Army for 24 years, Havaldar Devendra Pal Singh, 44, has now taken-up the challenge of managing the traffic on the BRTS routes in the city.
Like Singh, there are more than 300 ex-army men, who have been deployed on the 31-km RTO-CTM BRTS route to manage traffic and deal with public. This is a part of an initiative by the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), which strives to provide alternative career opportunities to its members. Maximum army men are employed with BRTS
Offering a helping hand
AWPO is a welfare and non-profitable organisation which has been providing jobs to veterans, widows of army officers and their wards since 1999. More than 1.5 lakh personnel are registered with the organisation and it has 40-45 per cent placement record. The organisation covers the entire country with 12 placement nodes and 47 placement satellite nodes. AWPO has an exclusive web portal, exarmyplacement.com, for its online activities.
“I am happy to get an opportunity to work with the BRTS. Such alternative job opportunities give us more financial stability. However, the job is not easy. People hurl abuses and insults at us while we do our duty. It leaves me feeling helpless. We have no authority to deal with misbehaving crowd. I think ex-army personnel should be given some power to deal with miscreants rather than be dependent on police,” Singh says.
The ex-army personnel work in two eight-hour shifts and earn Rs 8,000 a month. “Working is always better than sitting idle. But the salary we earn is insufficient to run a household when the prices are soaring. We also have to pay 10 per cent professional tax when we should be paying only two per cent,” says retired Havaldar Hareshwar Pandey, who is a traffic assistant on the BRTS corridor. With the commencement of the second phase of BRTS, another 700 personnel will get jobs.
AWPO has been successful in generating job opportunities for its members in various sectors like security, which has the second highest number of army personnel employed in, hospitality, education, marketing. The non-commissioned officers (NCOs) earn Rs 8,000 and above, while the junior commissioned officers (JCOs) earn Rs 12,000 and more. The commissioned officers earn more than Rs 35,000 and are assigned to various managerial posts.
Director of APWN, Gujarat and Rajasthan, Lt Col (retd) N S Gajjar says, “Our army men constitute of a well-trained, self motivated and highly skilled work force which is result oriented. They generally retire in their late 40s, hence they seek avenues to rehabilitate themselves in a second career. We try our best to get them placed at the right place so that their skills and abilities are used to the optimum for the welfare of the society. However, if any candidate is found violating or bringing disrespect to the Indian Army, he or she is immediately black-listed. We also make sure that none of our men are exploited by their employers.”
