Village pond

Can anyone here provide me with any information on how to refill/ rejuvinate a village pond.
My ancestoral village in Punjab (Hoshiarpur) has a village pond or rather used to.
It is now empty.
My relations have asked me to help them to rejuvinate it.

I live in London and I am researching any information that may be available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you remove encroachments, houses nearby, it's going to be impossible.
