Even in a tight job market, a citizen can find an IT job much easily than an H1. Any IT job pays better than waiting or barista. All Iam saying is its hard for an h1b worker to replace a citizen who is equally knowledgeable.Vayutuvan wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 01:01That is all true but there are not too many IT jobs now, especially entry level. At the entry level, like testing or documentation or support, salaries are quite low. Where Indians H1Bs shine are in mid level jobs which require a couple of years of experience. But they are also willing to work anywhere in the country, unlike Americans who want to live in cities and/or close to their family.
I myself worked in a 3K town 60 miles south of DC where SWIFT has a development center. Entire SWIFT development was done by Indian H1Bs. Max time for GCs was 1.5 years to 2 years in NY/NJ/CT least was in CA 4-6 months. MI too has similar wait times.

Looking at X and other places, I'm shocked to see blatant racism in American against Indians. Is this something seen on a daily basis, or is this limited to online channels alone ?

OM never read the proclamation before he signed it, I suppose.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
And the proclamation does say that the fee applies to aliens outside the country, which they had to clarify that it is not for existing visas.
Now clarified.

I read somewhere a few years back that the US Tourism industry is the second most valuable export after weapons. It weighs in at $250B. So they lost ~7.5 - 9 B USD.uddu wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 12:56 Overall 3 percent drop in Total Tourist arrivals in the U.S

Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Turkey is middle east lol nor middle west lolwa . Even in Yankee Midwest the larger cities are very diverse like Chicago suburbs , Urbana , Columbus /cleveland /s.louis ,omaha etc . Even in deep deep red states like iowa ,cedar rapids /Des Moines have diversity. As such most of midwest isn't all that racist . Pockets being exception . Deep south is a different story .
I am concerned about spillover in real life . There have been studies that show that does happen . Also the current government is influenced by online trolls and there have been obvious instances where online campaigns have led to official statements and likely even policy influence . Like that lady who was caught shoplifting in target on Chicago. It was pretty unusual for a desi to be involved in such things but DOS issued a visa /travel advisory.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Tongue in cheek because Turkiye is in NATO which is associated with the West. Israel for all cultural reasons, is in the West. So is Jordan and Cyprus. Ofc I live in a twin of the one of the midwestern towns you listed above. I don't see any more racism than say in your city.

Turkey has an application open for EU, doesn’t it?
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Yes, he definitely is the target, And, this one is out there with far reaching consequences, but not yet a law and odds of passing seem small. Since everything these days is done by President's executive order, what do the 535 members of US Congress do? may be chai, biskoot and lots of work from home.
New Moreno Bill Would Crack Down on Outsourcing, Fund American Workers
Today, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) introduced the Halting International Relocation of Employment Act, or HIRE Act, to protect American workers from outsourcing by disincentivizing U.S. companies from chasing cheaper wages and hiring foreign workers. The legislation will impose a tax on any company that employs foreign labor instead of Americans and will use the generated revenue to fund workforce development programs to help the middle-class.
...
The HIRE Act:
...
- Creates a 25% tax on outsourcing payments, defined as any money paid by a U.S. company or taxpayer to a foreign person whose work benefits consumers in the United States.
- Creates a “Domestic Workforce Fund” to collect any money raised from the outsourcing tax, which is used to support apprenticeships and workforce development programs.
- Prohibits companies from deducting any outsourcing payments.
