Congratulations to Mrs Ranjani Balasubramanian avl and Mrs Gayatri Balasubramanian avl on receiving the Padma Shri, a recognition for their extraordinary contributions to Carnatic music.
As the illustrious duo “Ranjani–Gayatri”, they have elevated India’s classical heritage with soulful renditions and a deep spiritual connect to every note they sing.
They stand as torchbearers of tradition, taking Carnatic music from Chennai’s sabhas to global stages. This national honour will inspire many young musicians, especially women, to pursue classical music with pride and devotion.

At the At-Home Reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan today, the theme was the North-East. All guests, from PM to E.U leaders, foreign envoys were given a North-Eastern Patka. Only Rahul Gandhi chose not to wear it despite being reportedly reminded by President Murmu twice.

Canadian PM coming to India. South Koreans should also join the line to New Delhi. India-Canada Relations Turn Page as PM Mark Carney Plans India Visit Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney is likely to visit India in the first week of March, signalling a major reset in India-Canada relations after nearly two years of diplomatic freeze. India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, confirmed that talks are moving with urgency, citing a changing global order and renewed political will on both sides.
The visit comes after strained ties under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who accused India of involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in 2023—claims strongly denied by New Delhi. With Carney now steering Canada’s foreign policy, both nations appear keen to turn a new page.
Officials say India and Canada could sign a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) within a year of resuming formal negotiations. The development also coincides with India’s broader trade push, including the expected conclusion of the India-EU free trade pact.
The visit could mark a turning point for trade, diplomacy, and strategic cooperation between New Delhi and Ottawa.

Has anyone being following the UGC affair? In a nutshell, UGC has put out a circular that what is in essence the SC/ST act on campuses with strict punishments on violations.
Given the large number of false cases that are filed on SC/ST act, students and parents are upset and blaming BJP.
BJP is studiously quiet on the issue.

Tanaji saar,
It's a major cockup.
These guys have become too complacent and uncaring.
The work of the NCERT and UGC has been left to woke and commie babooze and office peons, and there is an unchecked and malevolent influence of FFNGOs in many ministries. The BJP has known of such shenanigans for the longest time and yet unfailingly falls into the very same ditch every time. one can never be all things to all people.
BTW, no one had even asked for this new UGC BS, the old one was rattling along and doing just fine
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is not something that these guys understand
mumtaz begum is already off and running with this UGC BS in her bengal tirade against the BJP
the BJP has woken up too late and, as usual, landed themselves in a soup of their own making
A larger conspiracy may be in play with Yogi Adityanath being the target in a regime change attempt using that fake shankaracharya. There seems to be an active bid to separate the brahmin and/or OBC votes from the BJP.
This UGC BS ties in quite neatly with such a narrative, which, in some quarters it is being touted as a "gift" of the culinary institute
It has now been supposedly handed over to a "high-powered committee." and possibly put in abeyance for the duration

Chetakji,
You have summed up what I have heard as well. There was absolutely no reason for this circular - no one was asking for it except the usual jitni azadi utna haq gang. But now the cat is out of the bag…
BJP has let the commie gang run loose for far too long in education.

the elections in UP next year seems to be the objective.

the mafia need to make a decisive entry into UP to push their agenda and clear their path to dilli

Ajit Pawar dies in plane crash in Maharashtra's Baramati
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar died after his aircraft crashed during an emergency landing attempt at Baramati airport on Wednesday morning. The two pilots and Ajit's security personnel also died in the crash, which happened as the chartered aircraft was attempting an emergency landing at Baramati airport.

I wonder what happens in Maharashtra now. While the state government is not in danger, its likely that Ajit Pawar MLAs and other elected representatives of various bodies will revert back to Sharad Pawar. This may cause some changes in some bodies…

Can anyone post these UGC Equity guidelines ? I've seen excerpts of it but can't find the full doc now.
From what I've seen these are very divisive, go against every principle of fairness, presumption of innocence and natural justice. They even mandate "equity squads" on every campus for some kind of vigilantism.
It won't serve anyone's interest, forget about GCs, even OBCs, SCs and STs can use it to settle scores with each other.
The education minister (for letting this happen) and law minister (for not reviewing before issuance) must be held accountable.

But I am deeply worried and concerned that Deep State or whoever is getting pretty desperate.
Given our experiences with previous plane crashes and some shadowy figures involved, can this also be one of those!!
Didi is already off the block giving some impetus to the rumour mills.
If there is an element of truth then serious efforts are being put:
SIR, UGC, the Shankaracharya who's become a stooge of INC, this, Tarrifs etc.
Litmus would be the three elections : Assam, Bengal and UP
Given that people could not target NaMo directly and do much with 50% and Pakis, or the previous failed attempts
Is this the new Mantra : alienate upper and lower classes from BJP, start the rumour mills about targetted killings (like the change of reservation during previous elections)

there are some sickuler leaders waiting to muscle in.
Let's wait and watch, because the uncle is politically PNG for the nationalists
With the main link to the nationalists gone, and any hope for a post in the union cabinet on a family and friends quota may just have become a bridge too far because some of the alliances that were made recently went directly against the nationalist grain

Why Modi and Jaishankar Are Hosting Arab Foreign Ministers From 10+ Countries in Delhi | Explained India is set to host a major diplomatic gathering as foreign ministers from across the Arab world arrive in New Delhi for the second India–Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on January 30 and 31. Only the second such meeting since 2016, the engagement signals a renewed push by India to deepen ties with the Arab world amid regional and global uncertainty.
Foreign ministers from Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Sudan, Palestine, Somalia, Mauritania, Comoros and Libya have confirmed participation, with Saudi Arabia represented at the vice-ministerial level. Representatives from nearly 22 Arab League countries are expected, alongside Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, highlighting the meeting’s political significance.
The talks, chaired by External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, are expected to focus on regional stability, the Palestinian issue, and emerging geopolitical challenges. Economic cooperation will be a major pillar, with discussions on trade, investment, energy security and the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor.
Adding momentum to the engagement, India and Arab nations will also launch a new India–Arab Chamber of Commerce, aimed at institutionalising economic cooperation. Together, these developments underline India’s expanding diplomatic and economic footprint in the Arab world.
BJP has not come out of this looking good at all. Bizarrely self inflicted wounds.
There was apparently a report in Swaraj mag saying that these rules were essentially written by Indira Jaising. The original draft was more or less unremarkable and somehow this lady inserted herself into the drafting process. I can’t vouch for the veracity of this statement but would make sense..

Tanaji saar,
for your info, this is the kind of scum that one is dealing with
Indira Jaisingh: “The UGC rules are still not sufficient. They don’t cover the private sector, IITs or IIMs.”
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has STAYED the UGC Regulations 2026. Until then, their operation remains in ABEYANCE.
Vikas Divyakirti (this swine runs "coaching" classes and is not only politically active, but runs a you tube channel to air his nonsense) supports new UGC Regulations:
— New rules are BETTER than the 2012 regulations, with 2–3 KEY improvements
— Discrimination cannot be a feeling; it has to be an act
— Protests aren’t ORGANIC & are driven by principals & vice-chancellors
— Penalties for fake cases were in the draft but REMOVED in the final version
— Regulations are NOT CRIMINAL in nature
politicians from every party are trying their best to do a large scale political whitewash of brahmins and kshatriyas of India with the aim of disempowering them.
in all other issues they are against each other, but when it comes to general caste these greedy and anti Hindu agendas, all these politicians are one
This is a blatant BIF originated agenda to alienate the BJP supporters and set the narrative for the UP elections next year to hobble the govt at the centre and remove YA.

CPI(M) opposes India-EU FTA, calling it a “wholesale surrender.”
The same party’s 2024 manifesto seeks to restore Article 370, scrap CAA & UAPA, exit QUAD and abolish nuclear weapons—raising questions on its vision for India’s economy and security.

Menu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan reception for the european union guests
On 27th January, when the entire country was busy calculating what all foods and beverages would become cheaper after the much-coveted Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union, the world leaders were busy enjoying an innovative feast inspired by Himalayan culture at the state banquet dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.
The menu was inspired by the Indian Himalayan belt, and each course of the menu was a tribute to the wisdom of mountain communities, their landscapes, and their time-honored relationship with food, while presenting these traditions in a contemporary and refined form.
The dishes were made with ingredients sourced from Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and the Northeast too and mostly used slow-cooked preparations.
As per the menu card footnote, the menu was created and presented in collaboration with Chef Prateek Sadhu and Chef Kamlesh Negi and their team, based in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh.
They represent a new generation of dynamic young Indian chefs and researchers bringing Indian culinary tradition into global fine-dining conversation, not by altering its soul, but by presenting its authenticity with clarity and confidence.
The menu served at the banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in honor of European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen featured a blend of Indian flavors and global cuisine.

My read on the situation:
Ajit Pawar was Charade's only hope of continuing the family business/"dhandha" via politics. Now he is gone. Charade himself is at end of career and there is no future of NCP with him.
It seems like the widow of Ajit (Sunetra) is being pushed into a leadership position. She would contest byelection on Ajit's seat and also possibly replace Ajit in the MH cabinet. So obviously it looks like they will stay in NDA.
According to media reports, Ajit's "last wish" expressed in meetings was to merge Charade's NCP (SP) with his party (NCP), given the results of the recent assembly and municipal elections. My interpretation of that is "the united/merged NCP would continue in the NDA with Ajit as leader".
On Charade's side, there is only Supriya Sule, who is a total disaster in politics like U/R Thakre...all useless and entitled dynasts with no capability of their own. Let us see what her moves are. My guess is that Charade will tell her to throw in the towel, join NCP, ride piggyback on NDA, and just maybe one day break away as the principal opposition.
As for BJP, they have absolutely no need for NCP, Ajit, Sunetra, Supriya et al. NCP is existing in NDA and MH sarkar as a BJP courtesy.

All the goodies remain with the BJP which has controlling interest all through the political chain.
All "partners" are bit players and no one will leave because everyone thinks that each will have something to gain.
if anyone outside the established chain tries to muscle in, that branch will be amputated without mercy. Parts of this branch are already radioactive with the dilli brigade, and the local branches have strong ties with sickulars, with a history of repeatedly demonstrated inclination for gaddari
No matter who said what about "iccha" for merger, the reality is that the fadnavis led dispensation was going to cut them out of the BMC administration because they fought the mayoral polls separately, aligned with jihadis.
At stake are the RS seats, MLC seats, chairmanship of various committees, govt companies etc, along with other sundry "malai" positions that come with car, house and security attached. No one is going to leave, not when such largesse is visible to them and everyone in the ecosystem will be hoping to get something for themselves
But alienating the gaddar branch at this emotionally surcharged time will be political suicide.
The son is enmeshed in a land scam and so he becomes a non starter because of some "thick" files that exist. The other runs the family business.
The scramble has already started to fill the political vacuum that has been created. grandpa and daughter are unacceptable contenders currently but one never knows how the chips may fall, especially in family politics but the beti has been intemperate in her behaviour towards the current CM and has no demonstrated capability for govt work or or even the hint of any sort of administrative competence
"Outside" support for the ruling dispensation is looking more than likely, even as the clock ticks and reality starts to bite, and that is what fadnavis may possibly do to counter the blackmail of a greedy ally
