Cannot rule out Maoists' role in Bodh Gaya serial blasts: officials
Even as the central agencies gun for the IM, police officials are not ruling out possible Maoist involvement in the Bodh Gaya temple complex serial blasts carried out on Sunday.
They base their observations on the fact, that IM or even the al Qaeda, have had no specific interests, engagements or fraternal relations with Kachin or Karen rebels in neighbouring Buddhist Myanmar, which
could have rendered Bodh Gaya a target to send a message across.
Debriefings based on interrogations of IM operatives arrested from various parts of India, had indeed delivered an input of possible IM strikes in Bodh Gaya and other religious places in Bihar.
SP’s in Naxalite affected districts say, the Maoists had all the logical reasons to decide on such a strike, especially in Gaya-the hotbed of Red activity- to relieve themselves of the immense pressure now upon them due to concentrated police drives in Gaya-Jharkhand border areas and other parts of Bihar.
Their take merits a re-look for the spate of recent Naxalite strikes in Jamui, adjacent Jharkhand district of Dumka-Pakur, diversionary attack planned in Champaran and sporadic encounters in Gaya area, especially in Imamganj-Dumaria regions.
Only last week, the Gaya police and CoBRA batallions of the CRPF managed to establish a permanent camp at Dibra-Deo area, bordering Aurangabad in Jharkhand on the exit and ingress route of Naxalite squads, bottling several groups on either side to be targeted and weeded out.
Magadh Range DIG, Nayyar Hasnain Khan admitted that this would be an operational camp, where 600 jawans drawn from the district police and CRPF would permanently camp.
The forward base, designed specifically for area-domination exercises and aid forward policing without exposing long range patrols to risk of Red ambushes and mine blasts has taken away a major advantage of the Reds and brought the ‘war’ home to their own bases for the first time.
The permanent base has also obviated supply and stock replenishment lines, while baulking frontal and tactical strikes by Maoists on isolated pickets in the area.
The camp located in the deep jungle of Muhlang region and touching Red controlled villages of Seora, Barha, Subaicha, Tarachuan, Chakerbanda, Moharam, Kharhaon Tola, Islampur, Pichulia and Baltharwa in the Dumaria police station area, effectively prevents Maoist crossovers into Bihar and Jharkhand to escape police pressure and bottles their operational freedom. It also lays them open to well concentrated police strikes.
Commanders on the ground told HT, that Maoists managed to evade operations by sneaking into Aurangabad through villages in forested areas like Kachanpur, Bhaluahi, Bahadurdih, Jharna, Baklol Bigha etc.
With forward CRPF camps also coming up in inaccessible Lutua under Bankey Bazar police station, Sevra and Chakerbandha under Dumaria police station, the power of security forces to strike at will has unnerved the Reds.
SP”s say, “With supply lines snapping and movements restricted, a Bodh-Gaya like strike would have been a diversion”
Khan agreed, that CRPF forces have been thinned out as security concerns in neighbouring Bodhgaya mounts. “That”, top cops say, “would have relieved the Maoists from the security advance and allowed bottled Red squads to slip out. In that sense, the Bodhgaya attack could have been a diversionary one”.
They add: “The use of cyclinders with crude timers to set off Bodhgaya blasts is another Red signature as also the fact, that the bombs were placed at Temple Complex peripherals, indicating that a massacre was not intended.
The time picked at dawn would also indicate that the attack was designed for surprise maximum publicity besides to draw away the CRPF. In as much, the Reds, if they are involved, have succeeded.
The IM would have targeted the town closer to noon, when foreign nationals and domestic tourist traffic would have been highest, that too on a Sunday”.

Re: Bodh Gaya Blasts : July 7 2013
The Nepal border is a standard route to push in Islamic militants into UP-Bihar. Don't see why this dumb attempt to make it into a false flag op by Maoists. People who deal with this stuff there surely know what goes on through Aararia or Jogbani sectors for example.
PS: Nothing has been done since the 2000 Border Management reports and the 2004-2006 meetings between the two countries to tackle the "problem" of a fantastic growth in madrasahs on both sides of the border. The communist overthrow of the monarchy takes on a new angle - with the ISI+Guylf and Saudis investing for a long time to increase their reach in the country, and who traditioanlly saw the stricter 1853 codes [against conversion - a punishable offence, etc] partially overturned by the 1863 reforms and then ofc ourse the 2006 "secular" constitution - as obstacle towards jihad.
The islamics base in Nepal is now quite strong, by some estimates - over 12%. The adjoining areas on both sides of the border I track - ground sources indicate - more likely 15-17% in places, and ever increasing madrassahs and lots of funds flowinginto an area that generate little indigenously. Its primarily arms, female and boy flesh, and drugs.
The Indian side of the border cannot control the madrassahs because of gov and political intervention to protect the mullah - both the two major ulama manufactories in UP have branches all the way into Nepal side of Terai.
So, yes, in spite of the diversionary tactics unleashed by gov - the Islamics could very well have the capability to do the blasts - with a well defined network extending all the way across the northern border.

Green strength is not low in Bihar. It will be a mistake to think that. If you comb many blogs and tea houses on the net, you will find a prominent family who migrated from Gaya to TSP in 1971-1972 phase (pay close attention to the year). They of late have lamented on how that was a bad move. There has been some movement in the background....who knows the new poster boy of secularism will invite him back to Gaya, promise prominent land as sweetener. Let's see how this one plays out.

Low in the sense of say roughly 15-17%. Neighbouring WB has greater than 30%. Also they are stronger onlee along the river and Terai sector. I don;t hold any of the four states as safe anyway - but fans of GOI and admin knows-best posters on the forum think that I make an insignificant problem into a significant one. I believe that the faster the situation worsens the better it is in its consequential impact to break the hold the mullah has on the Delhi coterie.

They have a serious problem : they cannot tar and feather either the mullah or the Maovadi. Both have images to be respected. Can't show the mullah as intolerant to Buddhism - the onlee "indic" religion the Nehruvian can acknowledge as positive. Nor can the Marxist be shown to be hating the "anti-Brahminical-liberating" buddhism.

This is pure speculation:
I am now beginning to believe there is a link between IM, LET and some Congress members. I referred back to Mumbai attacks and viewed the photo of Kasab wearing the red thread on his right wrist. I co-related this image with sound bites of Digvijay Singh prior to 26/11 and post 26/11, Wikileaks of Prince of India Rahul telling US about Hindu terror, NIA, Hindu terror etc. Does Congress pay LET to strike India to propagate Congress agenda?
Now this blast, prior to this Digvijay said watch out for series of riots and bomb blasts by BJP. Now after the blasts he blames BJP and sounds his support for Bihar govt. This man is no small fish in Congress and it is ironic that Congress is quiet on this.
Prior to 1993 blasts, Mumbai's top cops were transferred and you had the blasts, 26/11 entire ATS team was wiped out, now prior to this blast IB, CBI are in tug of war due to Irshat case. This is getting comically dangerous.

Patni, I read that report accusing the Maoists of the blasts. From the text its pure conjecture on part of the 'officials' who make the accusations. So let us see what the facts will turn up. Unfortunately with NIA in the picture they will all be muddled and the evidence points everywhere.
Deepan also recall after the Batala House incident Digvijay Singh made a beeline to the terrorists villages and assured the families that INC hand will be with them.
Even before this attack he made some noises about to expect BJP to launch terrorist attacks.

Could be the handiwork of Saffron terrorists outraged by the fact that Ishrat Jahan case is getting more attention. It could also be Veerappan's gang who I hear is getting a resurgence. Maybe LTTE remnants. Also Pholan Devi's cousin's brother cannot be ruled out.
Ofcourse, rogue IB agents, Military Intelligence have quite a motive.

Bodhgaya blasts: Police release CCTV footage; suspect arrested
Here are the top 10 updates in this story:
The police are analysing footage of the last 48 hours from about 15 CCTV cameras that are installed inside the temple. They are questioning the man they have detained. No sketches of suspects have been released so far.
Three live bombs have reportedly been recovered from the temple and defused. Police sources said that about two to three kg of ammonium nitrate and urea were used in the bombs. They said gas cylinders might have been used in the blasts and are also investigating whether RDX was used.
The bombs found had inscriptions in Urdu, the police said. One had the words "bada Budh (big Buddha)" inscribed on it and another, the word, "bus." Police suspect that the first referred to a big Buddha idol at the temple and conjecture that "bus" could refer to a tourist bus.
A suspected Indian Mujahideen man Anwar Hussain Mallik has been arrested from the Nadia district in West Bengal and will be questioned on the multiple blasts. Mallik was arrested yesterday with Rs. 1.9 lakh in fake currency. The police allege that he had supplied explosives for the 2010 Pune German Bakery blasts which killed 17 people.
Security was lax at the temple. This despite the special cell of the Delhi Police having sent an intelligence input in October last to Bihar about a possible strike on the Mahabodhi temple by the Indian Mujahideen.
After the alert, the temple had hired a private security agency, but there was allegedly no initiative by the Bihar Police to secure the important religious and tourist spot. After the blasts, Bihar Chief Minister said the Bihar Police would have charge of security at the temple.
Lalu Prasad's RJD and the BJP, which ruled Bihar as a partner of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United till last month, have slammed the state government's "failure" to prevent the terror attack in Bodhgaya despite prior information from intelligence agencies. They have called a bandh in the Magadh division.
The Home Ministry yesterday confirmed it was a "terror attack." The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the blast. An NIA team reached Bodhgaya on Sunday evening. The National Security Guard too will investigate the blasts.
The first blast took place inside the temple at 5:30 am on Sunday, followed by nine successive explosions in the next half hour.
There has been no damage to the shrine. "The holy bodhi tree is safe and there is no damage to it," Bihar police chief Abhayanand said yesterday. Experts say the damage was limited because it is a lean tourist season and there were not too many people inside the temple during that time. The two injured, reportedly a Buddhist monk from Myanmar and a pilgrim, were rushed to a hospital.

Is there a connect between Modi's speech & blasts: Digvijay
I do not see how this is not related to serial blasts? Is Congress General Secretary not a part of power group that "guides" current government? Meanwhile cops have detained a suspect as they found his ID card in temple complex yesterday.New Delhi/Gaya: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday today questioned whether there was a connection between Narendra Modi’s teleconference with Bihar BJP workers & Amit Shah’s Ayodhya visit to the Mahabodhi temple terror attack.
"Flip side of this (Mahabodhi temple blasts). Amit Shah (BJP UP in-charge) promises a Grand Temple at Ayodhya. Modi addresses Bihar BJP workers and asks them to teach Nitish a lesson...Next day bomb blasts at Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya. Is there a connect? I don't know. ALLOW NIA TO COMPLETE INVESTIGATION PLEASE!," Singh tweeted this morning.
The Congress leader also blamed the BJP of politicising the blasts and said it is too early to jump to conclusions that there was an involvement of a certain community.
The tweets were in response to BJP leaders who asked why repeated intelligence inputs of an attack on the temple in Gaya were ignored.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said that rather than the government trying to tackle terrorism, they are repeatedly targeting the BJP.
One person detained for questioning
Police have detained one person for questioning in connection with the Sunday's terror attack on the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya.
The suspect named Vinod Mistry, detained last evening from Barachatti block of Gaya district, is being quizzed by investigators in the attack which injured two persons. His ID card was found in the complex.
