Bodh Gaya blasts live: High-level meeting on in Home Ministry
10.10 am: High-level meeting on in Home Ministry
According to reports on Times Now, there is a high-level meeting underway in the Home Ministry. It is being chaired by the Home Secretary and is taking place in the north block.
10.05 am: Lalu and BJP exchange slings over law and order situation in state
Times Now also spoke to Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the BJP spokesperson, who placed the blame squarely on the Nitish government which he accused of participating in “appeasement politics” rather than taking care of law and order. “This was a low-intensity but professional blast…Since the BJP has gone out of power, the law and order situation has gone back to the Lalu days,” asserted Rudy. “The central government is also ineffective.”
Lalu, on the other hand, also condemned the state government. “Internationally, this is a very important spot…and this has send a very wrong message to the international community. We strongly condemn the act of violence on a spot which represents peace and non-violence…What was the state government doing? What did the IB do after the report?
10.00 am: Bodh Gaya blasts a terror attack says Union Home Secy
Meanwhile union Home Secretary Anil Goswami said that the blasts were indeed a terror attack.
Meanwhile the latest reports from Bodh Gaya indicate that some Burmese and Tibetan monks have been injured in the Bodh Gaya blasts. No further information was immediately available.
The additional DIG of Bihar has meanwhile admitted that terror warnings were received six months back, but blamed the private security organisations in charge of protecting the Mahabodhi temple for allowing the blasts to happen.
9.53 am: Nothing was done despite terror warnings, says BJP Gaya MLA
Hari Manjhi, BJP MP from Gaya has slammed the state government for inaction, saying that despite receiving warnings of a terrorist attack, no action was taken and ‘only numerous meetings’ were held. “This is the first time such an incident has taken place in Bodh Gaya”, he said, adding that four blasts took place at the Mahabodhi temple complex, and another four took place in the monastery.
9.45 am: MHA seeks report on Bodh Gaya blasts
The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report on the Bodh Gaya blasts from state security organisations. This comes even as reports emerge that there had been numerous warnings that a terror strike would be attempted in the area.
Meanwhile Times Now quoted sources as saying that the role of the Indian Mujahideen was being probed.
9.20 am BJP reacts to the blasts, says terrorism needs to be taken seriously
Ravi Shankar Prasad, “If there were intelligence reports about a possible terror attack, then why was no action taken. Those who are trying to control the Intelligence Bureau for vote-bank should think about this.”
“It’s disturbing that such an important temple site was attacked. This temple is an important site for the whole nation.” he said.
Prakash Javadekar also reacts to the Bodh Gaya blasts. Says both Centre and the state government should taken stern steps to ensure that this such acts are not reports. “BJP condemns the dastardly attacks,” he said.
“Central agencies had warned about the intelligence attacks, both agencies have to step up. If something that is happening in Myanmar is getting reflected in Bodh Gaya, this needs to be investigated,” Javadekar said.
9.10 am: Sri Lankan President expresses concern
The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed concern over the attack. Bodh Gaya is a popular tourist destination for Sri Lankans and the President had himself visit the temple complex in February this year.
8.45 am: Blasts took place at about 5.40 am
PTI has reported that while four serial blasts took place inside the Mahabodhi Temple complex at about 5:40 AM, three blasts took place at the Terega Monastery. The eighth blast took place near the famous 80-foot statue of Lord Buddha.
DIG Nayyar Husnain Khan said, “The sanctum sanctorum of the Mahabodhi Temple is intact. The identity of the injured monks is yet to be ascertained. They have been rushed to the Magadh hospital for treatment.
It seems intelligence agencies had tipped off the state government about the possible threat to the Mahabodhi Temple. The state government and district authorities had beefed up security measures following the warning, police sources told PTI.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reached the spot.
8.30 am: Blast was of high-intensity say eye witnesses
According a monk who saw the blasts take place said that they were of high intensity. He told CNN-IBN that, “The blast took place behind the Bodhi tree and the place where we distribute lamps. The attack was of high intensity.”
Another witness who was injured in the attack told, “I was moving around panch karma when the blast happened. I heard a loud noise. I got injured in my leg.”
Meanwhile the City SP for Bodh Gaya Chandan Kushwaha has said that for now three low intensity blasts have been confirmed while two live bombs have been recovered.
The shrine in the temple has not been damaged, he added.
8.00 am: 9 bomb blasts reported from Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar
According to news reports, 8 bomb explosions have taken place at the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. This is a key religious site for Buddhists as this where Lord Buddha is believed to have gained enlightenment.
CNN-IBN has reported that 8 explosions took place while one live bomb was recovered from the site. The blasts took place inside the temple complex. The initial reports suggest that crude bombs were used in the attack. The report also adds that 5 people are believed to have been injured and one of them is seriously injured.
PTI had reported that 2 monks were also injured.
The explosions have raised the question of whether this was a terror attack. While an NIA (National Investigative Agency) team is leaving for Bodh Gaya to gather forensic evidence, the government has not yet called it a terror attack.
The Mahabodhi temple is about 2500 years old.

Re: Bodh Gaya Blasts
Everyone is screaming about intelligence input and specific warnings to State Govts like AP and Bihar. Blast took place in AP, dilsukh nagar, and now in Bodhgaya , Bihar.
Well one can expect least from Bihar Police , incompetent as they generally are, What about NiKu who is pally pally to such elements. The whole establishment of current dispensation is seriously engaged in dismantling security apparatus all over the country, why they expect officers to act on input or to provide any input.
And how long will it take sickular forces to blame HTA since NiKu recently broke off with saffron elements.

This is probably revenge for what happened to Rohingyas. The only problem is that the Buddhists are no pushovers like the Hindus are, expect more anti-Muslim violence in countries like Burma, Thailand, and SL.
Re: Bodh Gaya Blasts
Strangely , Statements came from Union State Home Minister RPN Singh while Shinde is keeping studious silence on the incident. No Statement from NiKu as yet. some chota mota ministers speaking.

Too early to say, but its definitely being picked up by news media in Buddhist countries - and linked with the Rohingya problem:
Bangkok Post: Blasts at one of Buddhism's holiest sites in India

Attacks on Buddhists are rare in India but there have been tensions in the wider region recently following clashes between Buddhists and Muslims in Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

That is one possible motive, but IM / SIMI do not need any new excuse, they have plenty.
Sharad yadav on TimesNow says 8 blasts and not saying about involvement of any elements, keeping it for later.

Now, the 'secularists' could be in dilemma. Will be interesting to watch their reaction.
But, on a very serious note, India is becoming the play ground for various forces to settle their scores in matters unconnected to India. The attack on Israel embassy staffers by Iranian intel groups and now this. This is because of the weak response to terrorism by India. Chennai's arterial Mount Road stopped for three days when 'Innocence of Islam' was released elsewhere.

I have this gut feeling that Islamist actors in HYD had played major role in these blasts by terrorists.

Too many coincidences:
1. Ignored warnings
2. Chota blasts
3. Conveniently chota bums left around
4. NIA rushes in immediately
What will HM say soon? Do not want to predict that HM will soon tie it back to hindu terror onleee....

I suspect some sort of coming together of Burmese muslims and IM/SIMI kind of outfits.
I don't think this will be used by DVS fellow types against the Sanghis.
Looked like Pipe bombs. Local gangs make do with Sutli bombs.

Maj Gen Gagandeep Bakshi
http://t.co/znndCfCXZpThere are Muslim- Buddhist riots in Mynmar. Where do the terrorists retaliate with 8 bomb blasts? In Bodhgaya India. Why? Because we have created the most permissive environment for terrorists to flourish and pursue their plans. If our Intelligence and security agencies seek to stop them, the govt cracks down hard on our intelligence and police. It embroils them in legal cases and paints them as villains in the media. What is the message? Is it the govts job to facilitate terror and create a highly permissive and enabling environment for the slaughter of our citizens? That is what happens when we play politics with a dangerous issue like terror. There is a highly misplaced emphasis in this country and our media on the human rights of the terrorists. Some lawyers have enriched themselves by defending terrorists and demonising and thoroughly demoralising the security forces. For god sakes this needs to stop. We can not wilfully destroy our own country. We are living in the most dangerous neighbourhood in the world. In such a situation to disarm our security agencies and demoralise our intelligence people is to invite a catastrophic attack. We have already lost some 90,000 Indian citizens to the ISI enabled terrorist violence in Punjab, J&K and the rest of the country. Isnt it enough

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today strongly condemned the terror strike on the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya and said such attacks on religious places will "never be tolerated".
"The Prime Minister has strongly condemned the blasts in around the sacred Mahabodhi Temple at Bodhgaya. He has said that our composite culture and traditions teach us respect for all religions and such attacks on religious places will never be tolerated," a Prime Minister's Office release said.
The Prime Minister also wished speedy recovery to the people injured in the attack.
Nine serial blasts took place inside and outside the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya early this morning in which two people were injured.
Congress General Secretary and communication department in-charge Ajay Maken said, "We condemn this horrific incident in Bodhgaya. I urge the state government and other agencies to bring the guilty to justice as soon as possible. We also wish speedy recovery to all the injured."

I seriously feel numbed and terribly sorry for all the human loss (of my fellow country men) this nation will have to bear till someone higher up takes cognizance of situation and does something about this jihadi infestation in across India.

Buddy I am on your side. I want to make India a Dharmic republic and I detest secularism. The pattern for Islamic terror is to first wipe out kafirs and THEN wipe out heretic Muslims (we see that in Pakistan). And you know how Muslim identity is. I was reading an article by Aakar Patel (one of his saner pieces) that said since 2000, 1000 more Muslims in the subcontinent have died at the hands of fellow Muslims than the Hindus.
Re: Bodh Gaya Blasts : July 7 2013
A view of a terror attack can also include a humane viewpoint of citizens who were harmed/killed. So also how come there are wild allegations floating around when investigations are ongoing - is it to cover something which is what and why is it made inconvenient to discuss.
There is such difference in approach about colors of terror on one hand when investigations are going on while on the other hand there is complete lack of substance and misinformation campaign when it is clear in many beasts why and which community/temples are targeted.
This difference in approach can't be explained as practice of secularism but perhaps dhimmitude even after a terror attack.
