He pushed for everything, so that he can peddle that figure to the American people.

The US is pressuring India to take back undocumented immigrants.

India has said, yes, it will cooperate in taking these people back - BUT - if such a person took asylum in another country (say, Canada) and then went to the US then they should be returned to the country they took asylum in.

I genuinely wanted to know. He makes so many announcements it is tough to remember if he specifically pushed for some items or just made a general statement.

He can't push for strategic products like subs or bombers or ACs. He pushed for the teen series probably as the F35 is of the menu thanks to S400 systems. Missiles we don't need. Tanks neither.

Helicopters, UAVs, Transports (air, land, sea), artillery, small arms etc would be my guess.

There goes the BRICS dream of dumping dollar.
We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs
There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, or anywhere else, and any Country that tries should say hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America!,
With this, India's dalliance to ditch USD will firmly come to an end.

There was no plans to create any BRICS currency from the Indian side. Seems Trump will force India to fasten the usage of multi currency trade. Even EU may join in trading in their own currencies. He was foolish in his first term to club India with other nations that are hostile to the U.S. He is repeating the same mistake means, the U.S turning into U.K is inevitable. Even if there is an agreement to use the U.S dollar it will be or max 4 years during Trump presidency, after which everyone will ditch it forever. Trust is something that need earned rather than threatened. The goodwill for the U.S as a nation build up over the years in India even under their deep state policies of hurting India will vanish.

Govt seems to be optimist about good relationship. If things go south, then alternate steps will be taken by the GoI as well. Tit for Tat will be there if Indian interests are harmed. Sometimes visibly if need be or even without showing aggression in public domain.

US deports Indian migrants on C-17 military aircraft
A US military plane has departed with illegal migrants to India, a US official told news agency Reuters on Monday. The C-17 aircraft departed with migrants aboard but would not arrive for at least 24 hours, he added.

They can leave the C-17 in India. The IAF needs to buy it. The crew can fly home on UA or AA back to the US.

LoL ! MEA officials in the US would have verified the identity of the deportees before they went on the military aircraft.

The question is what will we do with them once they land in India? In the absence of any relevant laws (which I suspect will be the case) they will just be let off to go to Mahakumbha Mela to wash off their sins and merge into the swirling crowds !

If they don't have any criminal records, then they are free to do whatever they want. If they do have criminal records, then some action needs to be taken.

Also we should be able to get valuable information to figure the human trafficking handlers if any and go after those thugs.

Sort out the criminals and just let the others go.

Their digital identities like finger prints, retina scan, (DNA?) will be permanently held in US records, slamming the door on any hopes of sneaking back

According to Rajeev Shukla, a Member of Parliament in India, the US plans to deport approximately 725,000 Indian nationals deemed illegal migrants . This move has raised concerns about the fate of deportees who have been living in the US for years.
The Indian government has acknowledged the issue and expressed its commitment to handling illegal migration responsibly . However, the mass deportation is expected to disrupt the lives of thousands of Indian migrants and may have a broader impact on global migration patterns.

I do not get it. If an Indian citizen has overseas criminal history, under what laws do you want India to take action against them? Let's say, if an Indian citizen commits murder on foreign soil. He's sentenced and after serving the sentence is then deported to India. Since the crime happened on a foreign jurisdiction, and the victim was also not Indian, what or why would India need to resentence them? I mean if the crime was something like 'destroying indian consulate', then yes. But in other cases I do not think India will do anything.

Hafiz Saeed's LeT kept bleeding India, USAID kept funding it

Hafiz Saeed's LeT kept bleeding India, USAID kept funding it
Over half of American international funding is channelled through USAID, which is in US President Donald Trump's crosshairs. Despite red flags, USAID ended up funding the Pakistan-based Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), a front for Hafiz Saeed-led Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
What is more shocking is despite coming under probe over funding of an Islamist charity with links to terror organisations, USAID kept releasing funds to it.
The USAID aid to FIF was routed through Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), a Michigan-based Muslim charity that has ties with jihadist outfits operating in South Asia.
Taha said USAID provided $110,000 in funding to jihadist groups in South Asia, including the FIF, which targeted India. "When exposed, they merely launched an internal investigation," he added.
In October 2021, USAID awarded $110,000 to Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) through the Ocean Freight Reimbursement Program. This award was made despite longstanding, detailed allegations that HHRD is connected to designated terrorist organizations, terror financiers, and extremist groups," wrote McCaul.
Despite the HHRD being under probe for funding terror organisations and risks being flagged, the USAID released another tranche of funding in 2023.

Under the Biden administration in 2023, the USAID gave $73,000 to HHRD.
Such funding of outfits designated terror organisations by the US government itself couldn't have taken place without people in top positions pulling the strings. There is a need for detailed, transparent investigation. So, the dismantling of USAID by Trump has a silver lining for India.

I would be very interested in the educational and economic status of these potential deportees with respect to state of origin.

The US has every right to deport them but I suspect the gujaratis are contributing disproportionately to the US economy. And staying out of prison.

The deportations could be done with more grace and humanity. Using civilian aircraft and not making tik tok style chest thumping videos after the fact would go a long way. The way its going the administration appears to rub everyone’s nose in the dirt to show its dominance.

According to India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the use of handcuffs and chains is part of the standard operating procedure (SOP) for deportations by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities. This procedure has been in place since 2012.

Here are the key points about the deportation process:

Use of restraints: Handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chains are used to restrain deportees, but women and children are exempt from this.
Detention facilities: Deportees are held in one of over 100 ICE detention facilities across the US, with a capacity for up to 41,500 individuals.
Deportation process: Deportees are flown to one of four staging locations along the southwest border, where they stay for a few days before being transported back to the airport for deportation.
In-flight procedures: Deportees are allowed one 18 kg bag, but no carry-ons. Meals are provided during transit, and medical staff are present on board. Between 13 and 20 guards accompany each flight.
It's worth noting that the Trump administration has started using military planes for deportations, which has raised concerns about the treatment of deportees.

<link>
From the above link (Jaishankar in the Upper House):
"It is the obligation of all countries to take back their nationals if they are found to be living illegally abroad. This is naturally subject to an unambiguous verification of their nationality. This is not a policy applicable to any specific country nor indeed one only practised by India. It is a generally accepted principle in international relations."
"The House will appreciate that our focus should be on strong crackdown on the illegal migration industry while taking steps to ease visas for the legitimate travellers. On the basis of information provided by the returning deportees about the agents and others involved, law enforcement agencies will take necessary preventive and exemplary actions,"
