Was it a suicide bombing? Or accidental explosion on the way to another target? No reports of passengers in that car getting out.

Blast Near Delhi's Red Fort A Terror Attack Using IED; Suspect Held: Intel Sources

Delhi Blast: The powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening is being investigated as a terror attack, sources have told CNN-News18. Preliminary reports suggest that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used in the blast, which ripped through a slow-moving car around 6:52 pm, killing at least ten people, according to sources, and leaving several others injured.

According to sources, one suspect has already been detained and is currently being questioned by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell. The suspect is believed to have possible links to Jammu and Kashmir, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police is also on the spot. Security officials are not ruling out the possibility of a wider network being involved in planning and executing the attack.

This is the first attack of its kind in the national capital since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.

All attacks in public memory are Pathankot, Uri, Pulwama, Pahalgam were in J&K or nearby.

The enemy has delivered a message;
the message has been received in Delhi.

Breaking: The car involved in the Red Fort blast an i20 (HR 7674) has been traced to Mohammad Nadeem, reportedly a resident of Faridabad.

Earlier this morning, Dr. Adil and Dr. Muzzamil were arrested from Faridabad, with 360 kg RDX and 2,900 kg IED seized from their possession.

The investigation into Monday's explosion near Red Fort that claimed eight lives has revealed the white Hyundai i20 involved in the blast, bearing a Gurugram registration number, was last owned by a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

Based on inputs from Delhi Police, Gurugram Police detained Mohammad Salman, a resident of Gurgaon, for questioning.

During interrogation, Salman disclosed that he had sold the car about a year and a half ago to one Devendra, a resident of Okhla in southeast Delhi, and handed over all sale-related documents to Gurugram Police, sources added.

Further probe revealed that Devendra subsequently sold the vehicle -- a Hyundai i20 with the registration HR26CE7674 -- involved in the blast to a buyer in Ambala, Haryana. Investigators said details of the transaction and ownership trail are being verified and shared with central security agencies.

According to sources, the car was eventually purchased by a man named Tariq from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

Delhi Police are now treating the Red Fort blast as a terrorist attack.

They have added terrorism-related charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) -

Section 16: for committing a terrorist act,

Section 18: for planning or helping in a terrorist act.

They also included charges under the Explosive Substances Act for using bombs or explosives, and added murder and attempted murder charges for the people killed or injured in the blast.

The Hyundai i20 that exploded was originally owned by Md. Salman but was sold to Nadeem, who then sold it to a used car dealer, Royal Car Zone, Faridabad. It was later bought by Tariq.

Tariq was living in Faridabad but was originally from Pulwama. Dr. Muzzamil Shakeel, from whom 2900 kg of IED-making material was seized, was also living in Faridabad and is also a native of Pulwama.

All of this appears to be linked. It looks like Tariq panicked after Dr. Muzzamil was arrested and carried out the Red Fort attack, possibly as a fidayeen act.

- A major joint operation.. spanning J&K, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh: a cache of about 2,900 kg of explosive-/IED-making material was seized, and eight people arrested including three doctors.

- Investigators are increasingly describing what they term a “white-collar terror ecosystem” — involving educated professionals (doctors, academics) being recruited or radicalised, and using relatively common dual-use materials (e.g., fertilizer-grade ammonium nitrate, timers, wiring) to build devices.

- In the Faridabad operation, one of the arrested doctors, , had been teaching at a university near Delhi and had rented accommodation in Dhauj village where ~360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate, an AK-47, ammunition, timers and electronics were found.

- A separate arrest: a woman doctor from Lucknow, , is also under investigation in the same module; an AK-47 was reportedly recovered from her car.

Delhi Police has recovered CCTV footage showing the car entering and exiting the parking area of RedFort. The suspect appears to be alone in the footage. The route towards Daryaganj is now being examined. In total, over 100 CCTV clips are being reviewed, including footage from toll plazas.
