So this proves that Paki can talk about "Indian perfidy" all day long, and all a US senator hears is "India yaddadyayyadadyyayd India yaddadadyadda", and in the end confuses the Paki for an Indian :rotfl:

Dhume-ji is just practicing some taqqiya as CRamS correctly deduced. Have to have something out there to show he is even handed.

But then again, Pakis seem to be destroying themselves even more efficiently when America stays engaged with them, so what is not to like?

A pawki is immune to reality, all the Pawkis I have met believe that they won 4 wars with India, defeated the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and that Pawkistan would have been a superpower if not for Zardari and the Joos. If the idea is that JA made Pawkis see the reality then that idea falls flat on its face. JA's comments would be dismissed as the comments of a lower caste Muslim trying to please his Hindu masters in India.
Pawkistan is beyond redemption, the only solution is a break up of Pawkistan and Brinda Karat type of detoxification of text books campaign.

Mahendra - I did not bother watching more than 2 minutes of one video. I am getting my inputs from others on the forum whose opinions I trust. Javed Akhtar and MJ Akbar are very interesting examples of Indian Muslims because they represent an intellectual book-writing opinion expressing class of Muslim that India lacked after partition. Most of the book-writing opinion expressing elite class went off the Pakistan to create the RAPE class there, leaving the people whom you say the Pakis call the "low caste Muslim" in India.

Here are Muslims who have grown up with India as their motherland and see its warts and pearls just as we do and do not need a Packee to tell them what they should like or dislike in a sanctimonious "I represent Muslim more than you because I am a Paki ba$tard" fashion. They are able to see what Pakistan has done and have the intellect and an Indian education to tear Pakis a new one. I know Indian Muslims who are like this and I even sent my Paki book to one for review. This thing to do is just to get the beer and popcorn out.

I agree with the points you have made and thanks for linking the speech. But "fail/success" is not the point. That speech has been archived forever in the archives of the UN and is a historic document on which future knowledge and judgements will be based.

Few have the opportunity to present a case that is bound to go down in history. Fewer still will have the intellect to make sure that all that needs to be said is said.

May be OT but can't help observing that there is a kind of == between America and Pakis with respect to aversion to open takedown of H&D, as noted above. The reason for this seems to lie in good old fashioned tribal chieftain symbolism: if you have pretensions to being the boss-man, then losing H&D openly is bad because aam aadmi, or aam client country, will stop obeying you. On the other hand, in the covert chess game of power politics, H&D has no place, as it is all give-and-take only and both parties understand that.

Juicy juicy pisko stuff. And digressing OT for a bit there is an exact description of the US equivalent of this in a book I am currently reading (It is a famous one "Men Against Fire" by "SLAM - SLA Marshall)

Pakistanis too play their part in twisting Amricans around their fingers. Imitation is really the best form of flattery and Pakistanis have developed an uncanny ability to do convincing looking exact imitations of Americans. Paki feudal lords who sit in that pretend parliament are called "Senators" in the Senate. And looky here at this - Packees offering UAVs for sale. Check the bottom like. Paki chutzpah is amazing. They manage to stick a candy bar on a turd and boast about it.

The family of a civilian contractor killed in a 2008 truck bombing in Pakistan has sued the Marriott International hotel chain. The suit was brought by the family of Albert DiFederico, a Virginia man who was in Pakistan as a civilian contractor for the State Department. The lawsuit claims the Marriott in Islamabad failed to adequately protect its guests and evacuate the hotel after an initial explosion that caused a fire in the truck's cab.

Regarding JA. The =/= really hits home.

For the Paki, RSS/VHP etc. represent the shudra oppressing, evil Hindu, (put in your favorite stereo-type here...). In the Paki world-view, the mere existence of these organization is proof that TNT is alive and necessary; they are evil incarnated.

Now JA says that the ML the creator of Pakistan, the savior of Muslims, is nothing but the other side of the same coin. So the evil RSS is nothing but the Hindu version of the sacred, savior of Pakis! He added another spanner in the cognitive dissonance the Paki psyche wrestles with everyday.

Gagan wrote:The reason why I liked Javed Akhtar's talk, is because he showed the Pakistanis what they were.

I saw indignation on his face when the Pakistani tried to talk about there being more religious freedom in Pakistan. The look of indignation on JA's face clearly indicated his sense of Patriotism for India.

Beyond that his rebuttal was precise, and he deeply understands the Pakistanis.

His views on the RSS, I won't comment on, other than to say that his viewpoint is shared by a lot of people, across all religions in India. His theory on doing an == perhaps stems from his beliefs, and I guess he is entitled to them. I know a lot of people who have similar beliefs and no one's questioned their patriotism or their general knowledge yet.

He openly undressed the Pakistanis until their bigotry was naked and there for all to see. Here was a guy dismissing their two nation theory, their false religious tolerance, and Jinnah's excuse in creating Pakistan.

The best part was the way he told the guy, "You have to have minorities left in your country to be generous to them". Is this fact about there being 10% hindus in Pakistan at partition, and now down to some 1% a widely known fact? I don't think so, but JA knew this! If that isn't perceptive, then saars what is?
I liked it, I would give the guy 4.5 stars out of 5. (Half mark deducted for bringing in the RSS too much)
+1

I just like to add that if we talk about institutions bought up in that video by Javed Saab then there were two major ones. One is of course the RSS but the other and more important one was India itself - or rather the Idea of India as Sunil Khilnani wrote so many years ago.

This idea of India as a bastion of religious freedom was espoused very forcefully by Javed saab and his facial expressions was interesting to watch:the self-righteous zeal in his face said it all.

For those who are finding his RSS comment offensive, I'd like to say this: When Javed saab said that Indian Muslims are the most free in the world and that they enjoy more religious freedom than in any Muslim country in the world including Pakistan, just whom was he praising? Was he praising Indian Muslims or was he praising the 83 per cent of other Indians who are not Muslims who allow them more religious freedom than any other Muslim country? When that Pak toady tried to say minorities in Pakistan also have freedom he told him, to give freedom to minorities you have to have one in the first place, after Partition there were 10 per cent Hindus now its less than 2 per cent. Wasn't that also a compliment to the tolerance of Hindus in India? Remember the entire discussion was centered on whether the Two-Nation theory, with the idea that Muslims are different people and different race was justified or not and Javed Saab prefaced his comments with the point that all that was bull crap.

Bottomline I'm willing to live with his RSS comment because to me at least the far bigger institution which Javed saab defended with such passion was the tolerant aspect of Hinduism.

RSS is only a small subset of Hinduism and there is no == between RSS and Hinduism.

X Posted from the ISI History and Discussions thread.

Snake Oil salesman Mansoor Ijaz in the Daily Beast excoriates the intelligence arm of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Inter Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI / ISID ).

Manoor Ijaz states that the enemy of the US in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is not apparently “the people of Pakistan” nor is it the “incompetent and toothless civilian government” nor is it the “ politicians and officials love to line their pockets with our taxpayer dollars “, it is the ISI / ISID:

The enemy is the ISI—it runs Pakistan from the shadows like a puppet master. The ISI is a danger to civilized societies everywhere, because it nurtures and breeds hatred among Pakistan's Islamist masses, and then uses their thirst for jihad as a foreign policy sledge hammer against Pakistan's neighbors and allies, often for no purpose besides just creating chaos. Its financial, logistics, and intelligence support of myriad jihadist groups in Kashmir thrice brought India and Pakistan to war—once a near-nuclear confrontation. Its S-Wing planning and logistics support for Afghanistan's Taliban from Pakistani soil has so muddied the waters in Afghan-Pakistan relations that President Hamid Karzai turned to India to counterbalance Pakistan's negative influences on his country. War, against both its neighbors, may be big business for Pakistan's army and intelligence organs, but the damage to civil life is nearly catastrophic—and it must now stop.

This may be OT by now, but adding to debate on the Javed Akhtar interview.

You cannot buy such commitment as he displayed, nor indoctrinate it, nor credibly put the fear of god into someone to spew it out. It is a beautiful thing because the man clearly believes it with a passion stronger than most people, and the man's very existence and views are a paean to India and a flat out negation of the Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakjabistan. I'll take that in a heartbeat, regardless of what he has to say about the RSS.

Pakjabistan will never, not now, not in a couple of years, not even in a decade when, Inshallah it is sliding down into oblivion, ever manage to produce someone like an Akhtar saab.

In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, a nation claimed to have been created as a safe haven for the Mohammaddens of the Indian Sub-Continent, teaching Islamic Studies seems to offer no protection from targeted killing if one happens to be a freedom loving Baloch / Baluchi seeking to escape the yoke of servitude under the Pakistani Punjabi :

This is part of a series, that has been posted here earlier. Someone has been kind enough to extract just this speaker's views.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-0 ... ishra.html Pankaj Mishra's opinon.
Are India and Pakistan likely to stumble into nuclear war? This appalling possibility has long been kept alive by conflicts between the two historical enemies, but it may have been pushed closer to fulfillment by a catastrophic failure of U.S. foreign policy in South Asia. This isn’t just playground posturing. Soon after conducting nuclear tests in 1998, India’s Hindu nationalist government threatened Pakistan with an "all-out war." The rhetoric on the other side of the border was no less temperate. In 2001, the Hindu nationalist-led government responded to a terrorist attack by Pakistan-trained militants on India’s Parliament by mobilizing hundreds of thousands of troops on the border. Both nations eventually pulled back from the brink.
Singh knows that the long-unresolved issue of Kashmir lies at the heart of the tense relationship between India and Pakistan. More than 70,000 people, mostly Muslim, have died in India-administered Kashmir as troops have battled an insurgency backed by Pakistan. Any "Idiot’s Guide to South Asia" will tell you that peace in the region will remain a distant dream until India and Pakistan reach a solution acceptable to Kashmiri Muslims as well as nationalists in both countries.

This will initially require, at the very least, India to shift it troops out of the Kashmir valley, where during the past two summers hundreds of thousands of Indian soldiers have confronted increasingly nonviolent and overwhelmingly young Muslim protesters. Unfortunately, India’s new image in Europe and America as a rising power has diminished the Indian appetite for compromise and negotiation.
Pakistan of course has been readying itself for a military incursion across the border. Last month, it tested a remarkably mobile missile system designed to unleash low-yield nuclear weapons on tank formations. The bin Laden killing and successive attacks by the Pakistani Taliban and al-Qaeda have left its military and intelligence establishments humiliated and seething with anger.

Faced with a rash Indian strike, it might well behave even more recklessly -- an increasingly plausible scenario that America’s rigidly compartmentalized policies in South Asia have done little to thwart
He goes on to say that, "common dost of kutta, dragon and elephant is responsible to bring peace".

Gasp!
Hazrat Jahil Hamid (Piss Be Upon Him) was correct about Ajmal Kasab being a Hindoo named Amar Singh.

Here in this video according to some wise pakistani gent, Ajmal Kasab's Amar Singh is heard praying to one Bhagwan, who it is alleged is a hindoo god, and Amar singh does not pray to allah.

Watch at 3:00 onwards.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naX7lV3neX0

So now we have two proofs 1. Saffron Band and 2. Ajmal Kasab's Amar Singh praying to one Mr Bhagwan that Amar Singh is Amar Singh and not Ajmal Kasab.
Now mind you all if this was the Pakistani police or the ISI, they would have proven this in a few seconds by doing the lungi test. The much acclaimed Lungi test is copyrighted by the ISI, Army and other Law Enforcement agencies of Pakistan, and is widely used to identify criminal intent, and criminals. Even MI6 and CIA and FBI don't have such high technology.
Here is a how this test is done:
Image

Mind you: India does not have this technology or the ability to use this sophisticated test.

I never understand why these 'retired' gentlemen suddenly turn so rational. When they had the power, not a peep of rational thought out of them.

One of the consequences of the Westphalian Nation State consensus is that unsustainable warts such as TSP persist. In an earlier time it would have been dismembered and incorporated into one empire or the other.

I'm right now reading a book on the Paraguay war of the Triple Alliance by Christopher Leuchars. The parallels with TSP are staggering. Back in 1865 tiny Paraguay declared war on Brazil, Argentina & for good measure Uruguay as well at the same time. Over the next few years it proceeded to raise an army bigger than those countries combined, lost 60% of its population in war mortality. Most astonishingly it lost a staggering 90% of its adult male population.

- Paraguay was a Army with a state.
- The people were strongly supportive of the war to the end.
- The church convinced fighters they would go straight to heaven.
- There was a righteous sense of being superior to Brazil and Argentina.
- Brazil intervened in Uruguay to stabilize it but Paraguay felt it was its strategic depth to the ocean.

End result was the leaders were shot, the army disbanded, the population revised its ways, and the country dismembered. It was never a problem again.

fighting in tropical south america seems like fighting in bangladesh but scaled up in distance by a 1000 times.

we should likely hook up with the brazilian army to see what lessons they learn in the deep forests of the amazon...

ISLAMABAD - The man who made sensational claims about the PNS Mehran base attack has turned out to be a disparate lover who fabricated the story just to revenge his failure in marrying a sister of an army man. Muhammad Junaid in an interview with Waqt News confessed that he had nothing to do with the Karachi naval base attack. “I am not a witness to it and totally unaware of the facts about it,” he said.
Junaid had claimed in a programme of a private TV that some army men were involved in the attack on Mehran naval base in Karachi.
Giving details, Junaid said that he was engaged with a girl, but her brother Arshad, who is a Hawaldar in the army, had been creating obstacles in the way of their marriage...
See, it was a simple case of a young pakistani man in love. Pakistan is a normal country where love and peace flourishes. There are no terrorists in Pakistan, only crazed lovers.

Meanwhile the pakistanis all over the world are spreading love...
Pak woman charged for adultery in UAE
Abu Dhabi, June 01: A Pakistani woman convicted of adultery begged a criminal court in Abu Dhabi not to deport her to her home country, saying she could be killed by relatives, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The unnamed woman told court she is willing to spend any jail term in the UAE but appealed for the judge not to deport her.

“She told court that her family and relatives of her husband are waiting for her at home to avenge their honour after she committed adultery,” Alittihad said.

“She said that her husband had already killed her lover after finding him in her bed…the court decided to adjourn sentence to June.”

The paper said lawyer for the woman’s husband had told court that the families of her husband and his victim had agreed on a reconciliation at their home country.

Regarding the Border clash, Fellow BRites Notice the magical number in the Headline

At least 72 killed at Pak-Afghan border fight.
At least 27(Nos. 7& 2 from 72 in reverse) Pakistanis, including four civilians, were killed in the fighting, as were 45 insurgents, local police officials said
