shiv wrote:It would seem like this is a good time for India to win some Paki hearts, unsavory as that may seem. But given that India is starting from a negative score where there is an active hatred of India in Pakistan (and also a resultant hatred for Pakis among mango Indians) the possibility of influencing mango Paki Abduls to become pro-India seems remote. The best we might get out of this is to lie low and let the hatred burn out. Pakistan is now not fully in anyone's control.
There are ways of doing this. We should entangle the Pakjabi Feudals in a deal, where they become dependent on their access to Indian market for their agricultural produce.

Secondly we should try to take over the Urdu press, by pushing India-friendly content, by supplying advertising money, by partially buying into the Urdu press media groups, by partially dictating who gets to be on the staff. I spoke of this earlier. Of course it would be better if Indian hand in the Urdu press remains not all too well-known.

Thirdly we should consider giving refuge to some Pakistani Critics of Pakistani Establishment.

Listening to Hajam Sethi, one would believe, that he is indirectly giving Pakistanis the feeling that Indians have money and Pakistanis are bhikhari. That message needs to sink in, so that the mango abdul loses his awe for the power-brokers in Pakistan, who have not done anything for his well-being. Such Hajam Sethis need to be encouraged. That too would open up the mango abdul to the thought that his predicament is due to Pakistani Elite and not due to India.

We should keep on projecting India's soft image into Pakistan through Bollywood, Cricket, etc. without necessarily allowing Pakistanis to come to India.

I was surprised to find Subramanyam Swami's name there. Here is his explanation.
In a statement, Dr. Swamy said he delivered an address on Kashmir in the seminar held in the U.S. Senate Building in Washington in the summer of 2003. At that time, he was teaching economics at the Harvard University. He had checked with the Indian Embassy about the organisers and was told that ‘it was an anti-Indian gathering but not that it was ISI-inspired.”

Dr. Swamy said his friends also did not know that Dr. Fai was working for the ISI but had assumed that a meeting at the Senate Building would not have been permitted without security clearance. He had, however, requested the Embassy to send an official with him to take notes and for consultations. His speech had since been published in the print media in India and that it made the point Kashmir was part of India. “It is impossible to know unless briefed who is an undercover agent of a foreign power.”

Gola is visiting Khanate. In defending the bakistani position on Osama being found under their very nose, this is what he said (not able to find it verbatim) - "...Pakistan should not be accused of hiding Osama ... Osama not being found in bakistan by ISI is a case of gross negligence on part of ISI. They have been so negligent that CIA could set up a station under their very nose., and hence it is a case of negligence on behalf of ISI ...", this was followed by the anchors drivel of the standard quote "... US officials say that the top leadership of pakistan did not know the whereabouts of Osama ..."

Now why is this important? First we had Pasha going to DC. Now Gola is in DC and all this talks about hiding vs. non-hiding, finding vs. not doing enough on Osama and negligence etc. and ISI being singled out and within that this fai incident.

There are so many twists in this "aao twist karein" (lets do twist) song. First of all, the fai fallout is not because of some large heartedness off US., it is more like a wheel within wheel within wheel thingy where Hillary to shore up her credentials in India (after Mumbai blasts and needing to show something) sacrifices fai (his shelf life is over)., which also helps CIA get ISI chaddies in twist and the reason to do that was not because Osama was found., but because how Osama was sheltered and where those connections began or ended. Most likely Pasha and Gola were read the riot act and this guys are caught between an increasingly Jihadist Army and the Deep Khanate. I think the moves are being made to show ISI as the "out of control" boy and bring it back under control so the great game dance begins again.

Now add to this the curious news items:

1. Bakistan protests against the arrest of fai (Fai is a US citizen residing in Bakistan and Bakistan protests US arresting its own citizen)., and now Fai has to be extradited to US and there is money to be made.

2. The polio cases in Bakistan has shot up (doubled since last year) and the UK singled out India for praise., since only 1 case has been found since last 6 months. If this is the trend, then soon India will be polio free but bakistan will be a hotbed for polio and this disease may never be eradicated from Earth, all thanks to bakis (India should deny visa to bakistanis if they carry any polio antibodies). More importantly the praise of India in the WHO circles on how India handles the Polio eradication campaign (it is something to be proud of for a nation of 1.2 Billion with limited resources).

This Resurgence of Polio in Pakistan over the last 6 months looks surprising, one reason attributed is the non-administration of polio-drops due to Taliban pressure... I think there is something deeper/sinister here.. Another possibility is the floods of last year.
There was a major expose in CNN about Female Infanticide in Pakistan... this is another instance of "testimonial squeeze" bu uncle.

speaking of polio in pak. All is CIA conspiracy

fake polio drive
There are only four countries in the world with endemic polio - India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan – with Pakistan accounting for 60 percent of the total polio cases. As if all the conspiracy theories against polio vaccination weren’t enough to keep the anti-polio campaign off track in the country, we now come to know that the CIA carried out a fake vaccination drive in Abbottabad in an attempt to obtain DNA samples from members of the Bin Laden family. The Americans may have genuine reasons to authenticate the information about Bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad before attacking the compound. But, did anyone among the CIA high-ups think for a moment about its long-term negative impact on the vaccination drives in this whole region, including Afghanistan? Such an operation on the part of western intelligence agencies has in fact strengthened the hands of extremists who had long been involved in propaganda against vaccinations.

Though the Pakistani doctor who worked with the CIA to run this vaccination campaign in Abbottabad has been arrested by our intelligence authorities, what we need from the government is to convince the people of the effectiveness of the vaccination. It needs to act quickly to check distrust of these vaccines which have already been termed ‘infidel vaccines’ by some clerics. {and so the every medicine except unani } :rotfl:

In my opinion flood was a hype. If the conditions were so bad we should have seen some kind of epidemic in pak, or else we have to accept their disaster management is super efficient compare to the hoax in polio vaccination drive.

the failure of the floods in pakistan to cause an even bigger humanitarian disaster than the one which occured (i.e. disease and famine) either suggests that the place was flooded with aid and NGO's in a million refugee camps pumping out free meals and vaccines or...

that it was hyped up for maximum dollar extraction opportunities

evidence for the former is medium-low

There is nobody quite like the US among the 3½ Friends of Democratic Pakistan. Uncle has been lavish with funds, slush funds, arms, R&R for top Generals and officials etc. Funds from KSA had dried up for some time now. Even during the financial crisis two years back, KSA did not act much like the Chinese. The Pakistani economy requires IMF and ADB, both of which would heed American advice. The Chinese may give arms and ammunition but there is a big qualitative difference in war-fighting machinery between those of the Uncle and the Chinese. All in all, PA's bravado of standing up to America cannot last many days. But, they have to do all these because of relentless high-pressure from the Islamists and the general public.

Shashi Tharoor on Aatish Taseer's article and the reactions to it.
As this otherwise minor editorial spat demonstrates, Indians need to put aside their illusions that there are liberal partners for us on the other side of the border who echo our diagnosis of their plight and share our desire to defenestrate their military. Nor should we be surprised: a Pakistani liberal is, after all, a Pakistani before he is a liberal.

What the Chinese must be thinking? I mean the lavish 'yeh dosti' routine must be tiresome for Biejing Mandrins to watch time and time again. It's a kind of friendship offensive which puts Chinese in a rather difficult position. God forbid something goes wrong and Chinese do not come to aid they will lambasted by Paki for last minute dhokha.

I remember in the Def and dumb forum during the floods Pakis were talking as if the Chinese treasury belongs to them. Initial days when the funds weren't coming they started talking about breaking the 'janamon janamon ka pyaar' because chinese were n't giving much moollah ....

It's like going to a bar with one's mistress and she kisses and cajoles like anybody business but all that poor fellow wants is quick drinks and sometime alone. On top of it the bar tender comes to your table with mistresses old bills and mistress kisses the fellow even more to show the bar tender that the bill could be charged in the poor fellow's card.

Such a long column by @ShashiTharoor to rebutt Ejaz Haider column!! YAAAWWWWNN!! Yours sachly had done it in two teets. Joo are welcome.

My 2 part summary of Ejaz Haider rebuttal-"Aatish Taseer is wrong! Reason is geostrategic temporal hermeneutics of spatial metamorphosis"...

.....If joo think "WTF does that even mean? How does that constitute a rebuttal" then that is precisely the effect I intended.

Sydney speculation:
Mrs Khar replaces Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is reported to have differed with the President over whether Raymond Davis - the CIA contractor arrested in Pakistan for shooting two men dead in January - was entitled to diplomatic immunity.

It was learnt that six youths Bilal Ahmed, Aamir Rehmat, Muhammad Nouman Yousaf, Zeeqaad Iqbal, Pervaiz Inayat Imran Tufail of Sialkot district had been intending to go to Greece for pulling out their families from the economical crisis, but unfortunately, they lost their lives at the hands of international human traffickers, after being suffocated there into a tightly-closed small sized container near the Turkish border on Wednesday. They also urged the federal government to ensure early arrival of the dead bodies. The atmosphere remained gloomy in Sialkot district, especially in Daska and Pasrur tehsils after the sad demise of six local youths.

Sri, that's the trouble, having a mistress in the first place when the wife is there and she is quite willing to do many things for the fella if only she listens to him. OK, the wife is quite demanding but then, which master is not ? On top of that mistake, he even took her to the bar when his intention was some drinks and that too quietly ?

The Raymond Davis affair got it all rolling. Before that it was just a little cat and mouse game between ISI and CIA, but Pakistan had big backers back in Washington, in State Dept. in CIA, in Pentagon, in Senate.

In the field there was some serious dissatisfaction but it wasn't getting conveyed properly to the powers that be. They only said the the relationship was complicated and the men in the field should put up with the inconvenience while the generals and the admirals try to sort the equation with TSPA COAS. But politically Washington D.C felt that Pakistan was their launda, and one would have to keep the insecure guy a little humored.

When Raymond Davis Affair happened, instead of dealing with it quietly and letting Davis go, the whole Pakistani Establishment and the people made it an affair of National H&D and the Army even encouraged it. That was tactical brilliance.

So issues that were being dealt with by the officials and soldiers were now catapulted all the way to White House. Pakistan made Obama beg for the release of one CIA contractor. In fact USA gave Pakistan enough of face saving cream with the diplomatic immunity angle, but when Pakistan saw USA was desperate, it forgot its aukat. It brushed off USA's offer to save Paki H&D. Pakistan wanted to make USA beg some more. And it showed even more tactical brilliance.

Pakistan made the big boys and big girls in Washington beg, and that is something Washington was not going to forgive its launda. Suddenly the faith of the politicos in Washington was rattled. A "do kauri ka launda" had humiliated Washington in front of the world powers. The President of a superpower was not succeeding in getting one contractor released from the custody of a two-bit failed biatch state. And they all giggled!

This time Pakistan had hurt Washington's pride and standing in the world, the priceless bread and butter of a superpower.

Pakistan finally released Raymond Davis on March 16.

Later on one hears that on April 16, Gilani met Karzai and told him to dump USA and instead to align with China.

The two-bit launda had become somebody else's launda even though America was paying the fees. Those politicians in Washington who had a very bitter taste in mouth due to Raymond Davis affair were not even given time enough to rinse their mouths, that Pakistan carried out another tactically brilliant move par excellence.

After that it pretty much clear for Washington, that the usual velvet hand approach to Pakistan was not working, and the iron fist needed to be taken out. There was nobody anymore in Washington power circle to credibly dissuade the circle from not going after Osama bin Laden. So on May 1st, the President orders the SEALs to go and hunt down Osama bin Laden.

There were many in Washington D.C. who were expecting Pakistan now to come groveling and plead innocence about knowing Osama bin Laden's hideout and to turn over everybody who was part of the OBL conspiracy. Nothing of the sort happened. Instead Pakistan played hurt and made a big deal about their sovereignty being violated. Then they went on a hunt to capture all those they thought had helped USA catch Osama bin Laden. They then refused to hand over OBL's wives and others from the compound for questioning.

So basically the 1.25 trillion USD that the USA has spent already on their wars, would not have been spent; the 7400 casualties the Coalition has suffered, would still have been alive; all because Pakistan decided to tuck away Osama bin Laden in some compound in Abbotabad. And who knows what ISI role was in 9/11 itself.

And still Pakistan acts as if it has done nothing wrong.

After OBL not many politicians in Washington would be willing to speak for Pakistan. Those who do, do it on the explicit purpose of stopping the relationship unravel far too quickly as long as the Coalition is in Afghanistan.

Obviously USA saw the light, that keeping so many soldiers in Afghanistan was not tenable anymore and it was only a matter of time, before the relationship ruptured completely, and Pakistan does not allow NATO cargo to be transported through its territory. Hence the speed in the drawdown.

Washington has decided that the marriage is over, but the separation will not take place till the child is not in freedom out of danger in Afghanistan.

Then the daggers are going to come out in earnest. Wasn't there some deadline for the end of July?!

This must have been a very interesting trip for Hillary Clinton to India.

Just some thoughts

There are over 50,000 Pakistanis in Norway and lots of Somalis around Oslo. If there is any hand of the Muslim immigrants, it is going to play into the hands of Siv Jensen and her Progress Party, modeled a bit on the Freedom Party in Netherlands.

Time to throw out the Pakis.

What did Norway ever do to the Pakis? Perhaps these yoyo's forgot their geography. :) Or maybe out of sheer jealousy. I have visited norway. It is breathtakingly beautiful. You will even forget Switzerland. Request to all BRFites. If you visit any international news sites on this topic ensure that you comment and mention Pakistan . Whether they are involved or not people should think they did it.

Gakkakad, this will be counter-productive if it turns out they did not do it - a very slim chance indeed. Better to wait a little, the connection will emerge in due course, and then we can go to town on the basis of truth. Always better and always hard for them to back away from. Only a little connection is needed, a small opening, and we can do an unoiled GUBO with tons of info in various places... but better to wait for the opening, or we will simply appear no better than the Paks who shout Kashmir even if somebody farts on a pacific island.

Guys, even if there were no TSPians there, they must be the first suspects because there is simply no other country in the world today that funds, brainwashes, plans, trains and sends terrorists to all corners of the world, like Pakistan. Let's remember that almost 200 terror incidents since 9/11 have significant TSP connection.

'Wise S M Krishna will outsmart inexperienced Pak FM'

so says Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in TOI.
Rehman said Khar is a businesswoman and "does not have any diplomatic and political experience" and pointed out that she would now face an experienced and wise leader in S M Krishna when she travels to India for talks
Besides JUI has always expressed its displeasure at women occupying any place outside the home, including criticism of Mohotorma Benazir.
