Lilo ji,

1) it really depends on the extent to which Solar has been stressed. Modi wants India to take an international initiative in this regard in a similar way as there is an OPEC, which kind of indicates one could even export solar power.

3) Modi has often spoken that "Government has no business to be in business". He also said that if however a PSU is sick, he will ensure that it doesn't fail.

4) Modi said, that India should become an exporter of weapons rather than an importer. That can still mean that India simply has the production facilities for weapon systems designed in other countries. But Modi has also said that India should become a Knowledge Economy, which means R&D.

Some background to the moves in Kerala

Published on Sep 05, 2012
By M.G. Radhakrishnan
Caste-based organisations NSS, SNDP form Hindu Grand Alliance in Kerala: India Today
The Hindu Grand Alliance jointly proposed by the once warring Nair Service Society (NSS) of the upper caste Nairs and Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalanayogam (SNDP) of the OBC Ezhavas received a big boost when both made unprecedented "sacrificial gestures" towards each other for the sake of unity.

The two most powerful caste-based organisations of Kerala's Hindus, who form 55% of the state population, have rescinded from their entrenched positions on an issue - reservations - over which they had bitterly fought each other for ever.

NSS took the first step when it withdrew on August 27 its petition filed in Supreme Court in 2008 against the state government's then decision to raise the "Creamy Layer" limit eligible for reservations for backward communities from Rs.2.5 lakhs to Rs.4.5 lakhs. Next day, SNDP returned the gesture by announcing the withdrawing of its petition against the previous United Democratic Front government's decision to give 10% reservation to the economically backward among the upper castes in educational institutions. "We don't mind giving the poor among the upper caste a privilege if it would help Hindu unity" says Vellappally Natesan, General Secretary, SNDP.

On September 3, the two organisations jointly took another step forward when its leaders signed a common agreement to work together. The historic pact was signed by G Sukumaran Nair. NSS's General Secretary and Natesan at the latter's residence near Alappuzha.

However, both decided not to form any common political organisation and agreed to continue their independent policies on political, religious and social issues.

Other major points in the agreement are, 1. Never meddle in the internal affairs of the other organisation 2. To cooperate in protecting majority interests 3. Resolve differences including those on reservations through consensus, compromises and conciliation.

"This is a historic move towards Hindu unity. We have been constrained to take this step in the wake of unprecedented appeasement of two minority communities by the present government. Minority communities have established their hegemony in Kerala's political, economic, educational and social sectors and no more deserve the special concessions and privileges" said Nair.

Both Nair and Natesan lambasted the UDF and LDF for appeasing the better organised minorities -Muslims form 24% and Christians are 19% in state population - and neglecting the majority community for the sake of votes.

"Hindus are neglected because they are divided on caste lines. We propose to organise the community ranging from the upper most caste Brahmins to the Dalits and Adivasis" said Natesan. NSS and SNDP run number of educational institutions, hospitals etc and claim the support of Nairs and Ezhavas who form 13% and 23% of the state population respectively.

NSS and SNDP have annual budgets worth Rs.95 crores and Rs.75 crores respectively. They have called for a socio-economic survey in the state which they said would prove the marginalization of majority community vis-a-vis the two minority communities.

Interestingly, this was the third attempt to forge unity between the 98-year-old NSS and 109-year-old SNDP in the recent years. But all previous attempts had collapsed over the reservation issue. NSS always had stood for economic reservations as against the SNDP's entrenched support for caste reservation.

Though both NSS and SNDP had their own political parties - both defunct now - and were partners in the UDF during the early eighties, they did not see eye to eye on reservation issue. Even the earliest attempt to unify the organisations in sixties by forming the Hindu Mahamandal had proved short lived. The differences and caste prejudices between the two organizations came in the way five years ago when Natesan and the late P K Narayana Panikkar, the then general secretary of NSS attempted for unity. Both ended up slamming each other over the membership to Travancore Devaswom Board, the state government appointed body administering the state's temples and even over the appointment of non-Brahmins as temple priests.

Their hostilities only increased after the tough talking Nair took over as general secretary in 2010. Even though both had backed the UDF in the last assembly elections, SNDP used to nurse a soft corner for the Left too as most of the Ezhava community belonged to the CPI(M). Even as late as April, Natesan had announced he would never try for NSS-SNDP alliance again as the project was a "dead baby".

But what has forced these organisations to suddenly bury the hatchet was the surrender of the UDF government to the Muslim league's demand for fifth berth in the state cabinet. With this the state cabinet for the first time saw members from the minority communities of Muslims and Christians outnumbering the members from majority community. This was the consequence of the slender 6 seat majority of the government being brought to knees by the Muslim League and the Catholic church-controlled Kerala Congress, the second and third largest constituents.

Following this there was also a string of other favours too wrested by the League from the beleaguered government and the weak Congress that provoked the Hindus. "No Chief Minister in the past showed such capitulation like Oommen Chandy before the League and the Kerala Congress" said Nair.

However, the NSS-SNDP project for Hindu Grand Alliance has hardly found a consensus among all upper or lower Hindu castes. Though some Dalit groups have welcomed the move, some others have opposed it as a gimmick. V. Dinakaran of the Dheevara Sabha (a Hindu fisher folk caste) has slammed Natesan for walking into the trap laid by upper castes. Kerala Brahmana Sabha too has opposed the move as a bargaining strategy to corner all privileges and favours for the Nair and Ezhava communities.

Though both NSS and SNDP swear it would have no truck with it, BJP sits licking lips at the new alliance. V. Muralidharan, BJP state President has welcomed the alliance and said it is a major step towards BJP's goal to organise all Hindus.

He also claimed that BJP's unprecedented show in Neyyattinkara bypoll this May - when it raised its votes from 4% in 2011 to nearly 30% - was on account of NSS and SNDP's support. But both Nair and Natesan refute this and say they have no sympathy for BJP's political philosophy.

However, many Muslim organisations interestingly agree with BJP on this issue albeit for different reasons. For they have warned that NSS-SNDP alliance would finally help BJP as it would lead to communal polarization. No less remarkable is the silence of both UDF and LDF about the new unity moves lest it might provoke the powerful caste lords.

Lilo ji, NM has said little on economic issues. He cannot get into the depth of it all in the little time he has to present his case. He can justifiably rely on his track record. Beside he will be working on the 50000 ft altitude issues. So i guess chalta hai.

RajeshA ji has a mostly indicative post so here's my indicative reply.

PVNR had a good strategy for his time. That of picking the low lying fruits. For newer Indian leaders the benchmark is a bit higher because the lower lying fruits are all gone now. Also people today understand their economic interests much better (1 hiring for every computer kind of commie logic cannot fool people today).

1) Solar - A novel idea is the shifting of benchmark from 'cost per unit to consumer' to the 'balance sheet of the solar IPP' courtesy Modi.

2) Infrastructure - here again NM has a lead ably supported by Gujju business interests. Hope these business interests remain with him.

3) Disinvestment - this is a minefield that requires a lot of deal designing/making effort and the tick sizes may not justify a direct involvement. NM can however hope to free up some serious bureaucrats. I have a hunch that there would be a good bench strength of some seriously skilled babus in Indian babudom.

4) MIC - I believe Seculars would be happy with this :) and some quick success stories can be had here. NM is the best man to chalk out a way forward for the Indian private sector.

5) Computerikaran - For business execution and administrative clarity this is a must. The second stage of development can be unleashed. Again not something that will require a lot of investments. Start with computerization of land records now. It can be done now and can yield a lot of revenue too. Also people are happier if they can avoid meeting the babu.

6) Accountability - Again this can give faster and longer lasting outcomes. Get GST in, fight for it. Federalism be damned. If people could live with Kongis riding rough shod over federalism so can they with NM.

7) Skills development - Will remain dependent on opportunity creation. Beside a lot is still doable in the private sector. The governance of the private sector education has to be strengthened.

8.) Entrepreneurial spirit - Move towards eventual abolishing of BA (Pass) kind of graduation and start 3/4 generic but different difficulty level, B.Com type courses for students who are not into sciences. With extra credits for a 3 month slog period under a gujju businessman. Saala bahut ho gayi Baampanthi aur bahut ho gaye shahi tukde ki raajneeti.

9) Agri business has a huge value proposition in organic farming. If properly advertised/educated the organic output side will grow fast. Promote twin tracked strategy. Treat Agri business as actual business with full measure of legal and administrative support to it. Keep forward trading away from smaller farmers. Facilitate easy terms loan to these smaller farmers but no loan-maaf melas.

10) FDI in retail is not retractable now. FDI was a low lying fruit that is already consumed now. However there is still a lot of black money lying around and it is sticky money, meaning it is not going to go away easily. So use it in Maldives. Turn Maldives into another Mauritius. Persuade both to have an Indian presence there and keep them out of Chinese hands.

11) Knowledge economy - Knowledge economy cannot survive in a fruitful manner in the longer run without a full ecology of manufacturing/services/Bio-sciences/MIC. So present it as a full vision to the nation with a clear mention of objectives+timelines and put up persuasive measures in place. Stigmatize the catch-phrase usage of it by challenging every boodhi jeevi whenever he has the temerity to mention knowledge based economy in MSM.

12) Tourism - start with religious tourism within India. Promote facilities both in private sector and under shrine structure. People are ready to shell out more. Unfortunately facilities are still stunted. The value addition in facilities will help a lot of people in a lot of ways.

NM cleared backlogs of more than a million cases that had accumulated by making mobile courts and incorporating night courts in urban areas. Thus we can expect a significant overhaul in judiciary if NM is at the center and mechanisms to address justice faster. This is a very significant plus as speedier justice strengthens the faith in citizenry like no aspect along with a roaring economy. NM has the experience of having been there and done that with a million plus cases of backlog..so he will use that experience at the center.

^^^ very good move for Hindu unity. In India, Hindus currently identify themselves with the narrow identity of caste, not with the wider identity of their religion. Monotheists benefit from this. The best way forward is to get caste based organizations together under a single umbrella to serve wider Hindu interests. So this agreement is very good news.

Will not Zaid Hamid or Pagal Sehgal be more acceptable if they were less "green"? If not, the converse is why is Kafila acceptable?

Ergo, trash like Kafila should be out of here (or should be put in BENIS material).

PS: When I mean "green" I mean in the baki sense of green.
The left has a self-serving moniker 'liberal media'. They are hardly liberal. They somehow think as they speak in English, they are somehow more progressive, modern and the 'live and let live' kind of liberal minded. Ironically the 'liberal media' lives in a tiny bubble of self-serving delusions and is the least open minded. The traditional Right in the West was associated with dogmatic traditional values and the Left evolved as an alternative. That paradigm when applied to a country like India looks ridiculous since the Right in india is actually more liberal, open minded, understanding, and pluralistic because of the uniqueness of Hindu thought where 'experience is central, skepticism integral, text subservient, and belief voluntary'.

As Left in the West is associated with the word liberal (contrasting with the anti-science, pro-church Right), our English media would like to think they too being Left by inference 'liberal minded'. The Indian right is more accurately described as the 'Liberal right' though I would probably prefer to avoid the whole left/right paradigm as it evolved in a different context. its again ironical since I hear there is some church ownership of many English media channels!

Christian leaders from Kerala meet Narendra Modi: Haindavakeralam/Deshgujarat
Supreme head of Mar Thoma Syrian church Kerala Rev. De Jopseph Nar Thoma Metropolitan visited Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Sunday. Dr. Josef during his talk with Gujarat Chief Minister recollected Kerala’s Christian Mar Thoma Church work of rehabilitation in three villages of Kutch in post 2001 earth quake period.

Image

Josef was agreed to Chief Minister Modi’s opinion that no solution can be achieved through violence or guns in the world, and the human kind can progress only on the basis of brotherhood and living together.

Rev. Denian Mathew, Rv. Jobike and Dr. Sam Mathew were also present in the meeting. Dr. Josef presented Matho Ma Church’s memento to the Chief Minister.
Modi seems to have been busy softening up the Christian vote-bank in Kerala.

Modi has also been vocal about the deaths of BJP Karyakartas in Kerala. Why this uptick in violence against BJP there unless some people were feeling especially vulnerable to the growing clout of BJP. All this does show Modi's special intereest in Kerala.

the backlog was about a million cases but the clearing up was about 10%. Which is good only and not great. His pro-active style of administrating justice delivery is however exceptional.

His input is on two counts:

1) He seems clear that quasi-judicials have limited applicability and generally not a good idea and instead regular judiciary has to be strengthened;

2) his strategy of making the thing mobile. Though I do not know how this functions. However yes a lot of litigation is not about the curx rather about the Misc. applications that arise in the course of litigation. So a lot can certainly be fast-tracked and made much easily available.

Modi visit sparks protests in Kerala: TNN
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The visit of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi here on Monday sparked protests in Kerala, with the Democratic Youth Front of India and National Democratic Front activists taking out marches against his visit. DYFI activists burned his effigy in the state capital.

Mr Modi, who arrived here to address a Hindu Maha Sammelan, stressed the need to eradicate practices like untouchability, and pointed out that his government had taken a step towards promoting inter-caste marriages by offering couples who chose to wed from dalit and adivasi communities Rs 50,000 in an effort to promote unity among various sections of society.

Stating that he was in Kerala as a swayam sevak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Mr Modi said one reason for communal strife in the country was the stand of some sections that theirs was the only right way and all other ways of seeking almighty were wrong. In contrast, the Hindu community acknowledged the different ways of seeking the almighty, he said.

In Tirur, where recent violence between the cadres of the RSS and the NDF had led to the death of one person and communal tension in the region, chief minister V S Achuthanandan visited the residence of the deceased and said the government would deal firmly with communal outfits.

In a related development, Indian Union Muslim League state secretary and union minister of state for external affairs E. Ahmed denied reports that his party had adopted a soft stand towards communal forces.

Reacting to statements that IUML was taking a soft posture towards the National Democratic Front, Mr Ahmed said his party did not need anybody's certificate for its stand.
Some old news, but just wanted to show that Kerala is very much on Modi's radar.

Why I am scared when Narendra Modi wins?: Blog - Praseed Pai
The hate perpetuated in the Kerala media against Narendra Modi is very big. They are essentially feeding into the politically vocal Muslim and Xian groups.

The Channels of Kerala will be talking about Gujarat 2002 riots ( which as a Keralite , most of us do not have any concern other than the Governance issue in a democratic country. It is ultimately the people of Gujarat to decide to make him their chief minister or not ), why he did not apologize for that?. They won't forget to show that minorities live in fear over there.

The Malayam channels will get a channel rating and fact that, most of Xians and Muslims are programmed to believe that Narendra modi is a villian, boosts the credentials of channels.

When the people who sees this cannot vent their anger, they will be rude to their neighbours who do not share their political views.

The same thing happens when Israelis kill Palestenian militants.

It seems , a section of people in Kerala , are more concerned about what is happening outside of kerala and blame some local communities for all their trouble.

This mentality of some people can be a source of trouble for people like me.

Baby’s day out causes panic in Kerala!: Niti Central
Narendra Modi himself is in Kerala on the April 24. He will visit the Sivagiri Mutt, which is an important place for the Ezhava community of the State. Modi’s visit to Kerala has already been hailed by the Nair Service Society and the Shree Narayana Dharma Paripalana, who are increasingly getting disappointed with the appeasement politics of the UDF.

The hype around Modi’s visit to Kerala is growing by the hour. The mutt that Modi is visiting is known to work extensively towards the cause of social equality and creating a society that rises above differences of caste or community. In a sense, that is exactly the message Modi has been successfully spreading in Gujarat – development transcends all barriers of caste or creed and that we must create a society based on aspiration for a better life, and not on sectarian divisions fuelled by vote-bank politics. This is the reason why India awaits Modi’s Kerala visit eagerly.

My understanding of kerala politics is diffreneces between various Hindu outfits are reducing due to the threat of abrahamic faiths. they are active in all respects and reducing Hindus to also rans.
Though BJP has its supporters they tend to transfer their support locally to other party candidates.
IIRC RSS has strong presence in kerala. It has lost many supporters to murderous attacks by non BJP parties including communal parties supported by secualr ones.

with NaMo coming into fray, will gravitate some sections of the support into active votes. many or many not win seats but augurs well for the future.

This is a much need boost if capitalised well by the party as No sickular party wants anything to do with Hindus.

Lets bring realism into the energy discussion. Solar is just one component of the mix and NaMo hasn't claimed anything to the contrary. Oil will remain undisputed #1 for the next 50 or 100 years or more. It is absolutely essential for heavy transportation, plastics, and fertilizers. So unless new discoveries (of oil) are made, most countries will depend on oil producing countries for their supply and basically to run their economy. The best discussion on the importance of oil in the global economy can be found here:

http://www.quora.com/Oil-Exploration/Wh ... xploration

The five (little appreciated) facts on oil are:

1. Oil is important. Shockingly, sometimes horrifically important.
2. It’s big. Capital B-I-G BIG. You have no idea how big oil is.
3. Oil is wealth. Not just wealth for producers, but wealth for everyone who uses it.
4. The oil industry is a really safe place to work.
5. Oil companies don’t really make that much money.

Advani's address in Ranebennur in Haveri district on Sunday lacked firepower

BANGALORE: People expected a high-pitch campaign. But BJP patriarch LKAdvani's speech at Ranebennur in Haveri district on Sunday lacked fire and was bereft of issues. Nearly 10,000 people had gathered to hear him speak. Advani who was behind schedule by two hours spoke for just 20 minutes.

He neither referred to the performance of the BJP government in Karnataka nor about the perceived failure of Congress-led UPA government at the Centre  . Neither did he mention party's bete noire BS Yeddyurappa who launched his KJP at Haveri. People expected Advani to take on Yeddyurappa at Ranebennur which is in Haveri district

Advani referred to the party's growth since Independence and said the erstwhile Jansangh and now BJP had become a national party and an alternative to Congress only because of its policies and principles against corruption and terrorism.

While mentioning about the development works taken up by the BJP governments in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Chattisgarh, he said of late Karnataka was also being talked about for the development activities launched by CM Jagadish Shettar.

In a veiled reference to those in the party facing charges of corruption, Advani said: "If there are differences, the workers should discuss with the leaders. But corruption and violation of law will not be tolerated."

Advani's speech lost the tempo as he sought it to be translated into Kannada. Disappointing the crowd, he suddenly ended his speech and sped off.
Singh, Sushma make up for Advani’s soft speech

CHIKKODI/RANEBENNUR/BANGALORE: While BJP patriarch L K Advani's address in Ranebennur in Haveri district on Sunday lacked firepower, party president Rajnath Singh and its senior leader Sushma Swaraj made up for it by attacking the UPA government and lauding the BJP's performance in Karnataka.

Claiming that Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh were the only governments to give interest-free farm loan, Singh called the UPA government "one of the most corrupt". He said corruption and misappropriation under two UPA regimes had run into Rs 5.5 lakh crore.
....

On his part, Rajnath Singh took the issue of corruption in Karnataka head-on, and made an attempt to explain why and how former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa walked out of the party.

Singh said the party decided to ask the Lingayat strongman to quit as CM after he was found allegedly involved in mining scandals. "The party doesn't spare leaders facing corruption charges. I, too, won't hold office if charges are made ( against me)," he said. Singh said Yeddyurappa should not have quit the BJP.

The BJP president said he hoped that the BJP would retain power with Jagadish Shettar at the helm and extend interest-free farm loans, besides doubling the loan amount to Rs 2 lakh. He regretted that the government was led by three chief ministers in five years. "We had to change (CMs); it was inevitable," Singh said.

Sushma Swaraj said she was pained by party infighting. Addressing an election rally at Malleswaram ground in Bangalore, she said: "The infighting was in the past. We have learnt our lessons. We will give you a clean and good government and a government where there is no infighting. Today, we are united, while Congress is a divided house.''

While taking on the opposition parties, she said Yeddyurappa's KJP had no future. "After having seen the administration of the UPA government headed by the Congress at the Centre for the past nine years, do you want a Congress government in the state?'' she asked.

Citing the CWG, 2G spectrum and Coalgate scams, she said, "Through their corruption, they have covered all the three worlds: Aakash (sky) - 2G spectrum; Dharthi (earth) - CWG; and Paataal (inside the earth) - Coalgate.'' She didn't forget to call New Delhi `unsafe' for children and women and blame the UPA for it.
Even on the eve of an important state election.... this guy is being subjected to such a blackmail that he cant even find his voice to criticize the dynasty at the center,
Blind to the above pathetic state of Advani , now Shatrughan Sinha jumps into the fray and compares Advani to Kunwar Singh ji.
BJP should fight polls under Advani's guardianship: Shatrughan Sinha

The former actor said LK Advani had experience and vision.

BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha today said the party should go to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls under the guardianship of LK Advani as "experience and vision" are needed to guide the party.

"Like Veer Kunwar Singh, who fought the British at the ripe age of 80, Advaniji who is also 80 plus has enough energy left to guide the party in the upcoming polls," he told a function on the eve of the birth anniversary of Kunwar Singh organised by BJP.

"Experience and vision are needed for guiding party and the country {experience in what ? Loosing couple of National elections ? Mucking up gains in Karnataka and Himachal ?} and Advaniji has these qualities," Sinha, who regards the veteran BJP leader as his political inspiration, said.

"Lack of experience cannot be compensated through youthfulness," he said in a veiled remark on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, talked of as a strong PM probable of the party in 2014.

Sinha's comment follows that of Yashwant Sinha who vouched for Advani as BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

Oil is not an issue, but the price of oil is. And the price of oil is dictated by demand. To the degree that solar and natural gas are substituted for oil, it reduces demand for oil and therefore its price. Citi published a report a few weeks ago that US oil consumption will peak and then go into decline forever as soon as this decade.

The Kerala related developments (Baby John related protests, and subsequent issue of regret from him) plus the CPM protests against the Modi visit to the mutt; keeps Modi on the front pages once more. Can he benefit from them? Looks like it is another opportunity to show case how politicians and vested interests are blackmailing, threatening, coaxing ... Indians to not meet Modi - an elected politician. Pinarayi Vijayan (CPI-M state secretary) cries hoarse over 'secular' mutt turning into 'Hindu' mutt. Here are politicians questioning people who meet another politicians, or inviting politicians to honor some occasion/event.

Like RajeshA says, Gentlmen (no ladies here), Kerala is in play. Watch this site: http://www.haindavakeralam.com/ to understand what is happening on the ground. The site will highlight items that MSM misses.

Very true. Please read this if it interest you. What Saudi gets is for oil is not xxx$ but its xx$+ yykgs Gold. Because Us$ is loosing value, the equation has changed from xxx$+yyyyykgs Gold. The game is almost up. Also remember its only Saudi who gets gold not all OPEC producers, because currently only Saudi matters. A foreword just for tasters-

"Think now, if you are a person of "great worth" is it not better to acquire gold over years, at better prices? If you are one of "small worth", can you not follow in the footsteps of giants? I tell you, it is an easy path to follow!" --ANOTHER (THOUGHTS!) 1/10/98

[Follow contemporary writings of "ANOTHER" and "Friend of ANOTHER" at the Gold Trail]

"If ANOTHER's claims are true -- that a consortium of oil states has cornered the gold market (and given the impressive circumstantial evidence, this could very well be the case) -- these "footsteps of giants" become the most salient and persuasive case for gold ownership I have seen in the past decade, if not the full twenty-eight years I have been in the gold business." -- Michael J. Kosares, president of Centennial Precious Metals, Inc.; author of The ABCs of Gold Investing

Foreword
When the once highly secretive London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) -- its venerable membership comprising the world's largest gold dealers -- published its daily clearing volume for the first time in January 1997, it rocked the tight-knit world of international gold traders and analysts.

According to this first of many subsequent LBMA press releases, thirteen hundred tonnes of gold (representing more than 50% of the world's annual mine production) changed hands daily in this fog-shrouded center of the global gold market. This figure represented over $10 billion per day and $4 trillion per year in bullion banking activity!

The gold market had always stood in austere, quiet contrast to the highly charged, mega-volume world of stocks and bonds. Now this first LBMA report forced analysts, investors, and brokers to reassess their understandings of the gold market. While some revelled in the glow of the large LBMA numbers, others began to raise some very important and rather unsettling questions. First, Why was this much gold on the move? Second, Where was all this gold going? And third, Where was all this gold coming from?

Then, in October of 1997 at the internet's only gold discussion forum of the day (hosted by Kitco), a series of remarkable postings began appearing under the pseudonym "ANOTHER", offering plausible answers to those questions. What followed in a seemingly incongruous stream of thought over many months was, in the fullness of time, seen to blend into a logical whole by many astute readers following the complete text. If you are not similarly moved to at least reassess your own view of the international financial scene after reading what's revealed below, then you are either firmly entrenched in your world view, or you've been numbed by too many hours of Wall Street's cheerleader (CNBC) and too many Friday nights with Louis Ruykeyser.

What matters most to us here at USAGOLD is ANOTHER's educational value to all who would take the time to read and think through his (at times) arcane and cryptic commentary of international economic dealings behind-the-scenes. ANOTHER demonstrates a feel for and understanding of the gold and oil markets that indicates connections at the highest echelons of international finance, yet for reasons having to do with his "position," as he has indicated, he wishes to remain anonymous. If his "THOUGHTS!" are theory; they are good theory. If they are speculation; they are reasonable speculation. If they are supposition; they are well-grounded supposition.

In the final analysis, ANOTHER offers one of the more plausible hypotheses for why the financial markets have acted as they have in the past few years, and therein lies his immense value to the reader, no matter who he is. Again, knowledge as is conveyed in his series of "THOUGHTS!" is rarely to be found outside the highest levels of international finance, and is seldom to be seen bandied about on the front pages of The Wall Street Journal or your favorite financial newsletter.

As explained by ANOTHER, an opportunistic arrangement for massive physical gold acquisition among important petroleum producing and exporting nations could be comfortably facilitated within these astronomical trading volumes now being publicly revealed via the LBMA. For the oil states this meant receiving real money (as opposed to government-sponsored paper) in payment for their depleting oil reserves. For the industrialized countries, this meant a continuing supply of cheap oil to fuel the economic boom already in progress. These transactions were to be cleared through the bustling London gold market. Up until late 1996, the volumes were a tightly kept secret so "the deal" proceeded without the knowledge of the general public.

When the LBMA went public with its figures, it raised the shroud off "the deal." But by then, according to ANOTHER, it no longer mattered. The oil states had already (almost inadvertently) cornered the gold market. As implied by ANOTHER's own words, his motivation for these postings was the discovery by "big traders" in the Far East of this opportune facility to buy gold at ever lower prices. Their subsequent heavy purchases of physical gold upset the delicate balance. Now there was no longer a reason to keep it secret, and hence, the revelation of this extraordinary tale.

His choice to use an Internet forum to tell his story is surely a "story" in itself. Many who have read ANOTHER's "THOUGHTS!" speculate why he would choose this particular venue for his revelations. Why not a magazine article? Or a book? Rather than turning this Foreword into a treatise on the merits of the Internet, let it suffice to say that if ANOTHER and his motives are as implied, then there is probably no better venue than the Internet; allowing his "THOUGHTS!" to be disseminated rapidly, anonymously, and without editing by intermediaries. In addition, they could be efficiently targeted to go directly to the core market audience -- the gold analysts, brokers and investors who frequent such Internet sites as this, devoted strictly to the yellow metal. And after all, as a utility, isn't this capacity for specialization and instant communication what the Internet is all about?

We encourage you to find time to read and consider these remarkable postings of ANOTHER with an open mind. In the field of gold and international economics, these posts are sure to remain as fascinating and worthy of careful study as anything you will find on the web today.

A note on the text: No attempt has been made to correct typographical errors, misspellings, punctuation, grammatical and/or textual errors as originally submitted. This archive of ANOTHER's online commentary is presented here in its unedited entirety in the order his "THOUGHTS!" were posted via the Internet -- beginning at the Kitco website (from October 1997 to April 1998) then proudly hosted here at our expanded USAGOLD website (from May 1998 onward) through mutual agreement and cooperation with ANOTHER.

Rahul Gandhi has not been properly tested | Adam Roberts
Following the Economist magazine’s special report on India (India: In search of a dream), the magazine is organizing its India Summit in New Delhi on 24 April to outline the country’s prospects and challenges. Mint is a media partner for the event and will be covering relevant portions of it. Adam Roberts , the Delhi-based South Asia Bureau chief of the magazine, sheds the magazine’s tradition of editorial anonymity to talk about the evolving economic and political scenario in India.

Are you as clueless as everyone else about what Rahul Gandhi thinks?
I surely don’t know more than anyone else, but we know something about him. We know some attractive things about him. He seems willing to be self-deprecatory, not too pompous, not too full of himself, quite genial. We know some other things about him which may not go down well with voters. I think it was a mistake in that CII (Confederation of Indian Industry, an industry lobby) speech where all his references were about Spanish night clubs or friends returning from China. Is that with the vision that you want to present yourself? But he is well meaning. We know some useful things about him. He is not firebrand, he is not terribly aggressive. He is not going to be hugely hostile. But we don’t know anything about his views on policies. I would love to sit down with him in a very friendly, informal way just to talk through what he believes. One fear I would have is that he is just terribly influenced by the person he has just spoken to :) . He has not been properly tested. He has taken too much time tinkering with the youth wing of Congress and has not spent enough time on how India will be a stronger country, less poor, more equal, more attractive, more cleaner.
What are your thoughts about Narendra Modi, the other potential prime ministerial contender from the Bharatiya Janata Party, especially with respect to Rahul Gandhi?
If it does become a battle between the two, then I think Congress is in trouble. Modi has these two sides to him—the good Modi and the bad Modi. We all know about 2002, his utter inability to apologize for that. You don’t have to accept responsibility, but to show sympathy, to make it clear that you will never let that happen under your watch again. Just to show you care in the basic limited human way. So with that side of the bad Modi, you have anxiety about his ability to hold a coalition together, his ability to make compromises. On the other hand, Rahul probably will not be a bully, he is someone who can make compromises and hold the coalition together. You can see the BJP is worried; the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the BJP’s ideological parent) is worried because they don’t know whether they can control him.
Instead of Congress versus BJP, the fight could become Congress versus Modi, which could be a risky strategy. But then there is the good Modi, who understands how to get his state (to) run better. He has got investment, he has got infrastructure working and India is desperate for the sort of things that the good Modi represents. The problem for Congress is they don’t have anyone who could compete in a presidential style with Modi. Narendra Modi is among “the” (most) professional and strong politicians I have ever met, not only in India but generally. You look into his eyes, he has drive, ambition and confidence. He is motivated and he really wants power and he is honest about saying it. He is very driven, which could be terrifying. Generally, India goes for a more modest and conciliatory leader. So Modi is a risk. He is a gamble for the BJP and a gamble for India.
Foreign governments also seem to have woken up to the phenomenon of Modi, while till a few months back he was considered an untouchable. Have they realized that his chances are bright for the prime ministership and hence positioning themselves accordingly?
It is true that they are positioning themselves. But I think it is just a bit more than about the prime ministership. Why did Britain want to cozy up to Modi? They want to trade with Gujarat. They see Gujarat as one of most dynamic states in India. There are a lot of Gujaratis in Britain. All the parties in Britain would like Gujaratis (to) vote for them. So there are commercial aspects driving this as well. When you look at the US, the ones who are really pushing for Modi is the business community.

When One have lived whole life in the world of Vanity then its natural for the person to loose the ability to grasp anything substantial or full of integrity.Like Tenali Ram explained , It is better to keep mouth shut and thought to be Dynastic Doorman than open the mouth and remove the Shuqq.

Django unchained as D4 gets weaker.
Court orders case against Sonia Gandhi
Apr 23, 2013, 03.41AM IST TNN

HYDERABAD: A local court has directed the Kushaiguda police to register a criminal case against Congress president Sonia Gandhi for allegedly cheating people of the Telangana region and "having dual citizenship" on different names.

The petitioner also alleged that Sonia Gandhi was holding dual citizenship (Indian and Italian) on different names. "While being an Italian citizen with name Antonia Maino, the Congress chief has acquired an Indian voter ID card and citizenship in the name of Sonia Gandhi, which is illegal," Agarwal stated in the petition.

Darul Uloom key to Nitish anger

Nitish Kumar may have warmed the hearts of Hindu and Muslim Nehruvian secularists with his comment that one has to do many things in politics, from donning a tilak to a topi, a pointed dig at Narendra Modi’s fear of wearing a skullcap during his sadbhavna fast. But this was also an admission that politicians like himself make hollow gestures for political mileage. Modi took the riskier route of avoiding false association with a faith he does not practice, which is very different from showing disrespect.

People often do not realize that the distinction between Price & Value carry important existential and daarshanic threads in them. Understanding the darshan is more important (to generate a maanyata, shradha, anusaashan) than predicting (with its concomitant highs/lows).

Mao, Indira & VS Achuthanandan Offer Narendra Modi a model each to wipe out dissention: Economic Times
It's up to the Modi camp to sustain the tempo now. It believes, the sooner dissenting allies are driven out, and rivals in the party suppressed, the better. The camp's warning of unleashing 'groundswell of cadre support for Modi' on BJP leaders resisting his elevation has to be seen in this context. For the Modi camp, trying to force the issue, there are three models to choose from: It can take a leaf out of Mao Tse-tung's tactic of 'bombarding the headquarters' during the Cultural Revolution to purge every perceived dissenter/competitor in the Chinese Communist Party.

Or, if that is too alien, it may fancy doing to BJP's organisational leaders what Indira Gandhi did to her Syndicate! Never mind that she was then a popular PM (unlike BJP's aspiring PM with an image issue) when she nationalised banks, abolished privy purses and ensured VV Giri's victory in the presidential polls to crush the Congress Syndicate.

Again, if the Indira model is anathema, the Modi camp can ape VS Achuthanandan, who unleashed the 'cadre rage' to force the CPM polit bureau to name him the chief ministerial candidate. The risk here would be to presume that BJP-RSS leaders would cave in. As the Modi camp grows impatient with rivals, an encounter looks inevitable.

panduranghari ji, a service motive and aadar-bhaav is in a challenged position here these days. And I am interested more in doing than discussing. Past discussions and studies. Some other time perhaps.

RajeshA ji, the cadre rage is riding on a bigger swell of silent support-frustration cycle. The negotiating sort of leadership, may get past the rage if its lucky, but the frustrations if not ventilated will be an even bigger trouble. People could just loose interest in whatever little is left of BJP. Indians loosing interest is at some level rooted in the underlying tyaga-bhaav. That disinterest is what these guys should be fearing. That is what the SM segment supporters are fearing and hence their rage. A mis-diagnosis will be fatal for BJP.
