Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
The Big Surprise of 2014
While many on the BRF are seeing polorisation in western UP as some thing beneficial to the BJP. The counterpoint is that the other parts of UP are exposed to other political parties and they may benifit from the incompetence of the MSY son.

Can anyone here throw some light on Haryana politics: Why is sushma hell bent on avoiding alliance with INLD. Is it better to just stay with HJC??
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Can't say, but she has been active in Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and I believe Karnataka politics. Over the years she has built up a legacy in these areas and is not willing to go new ways!muraliravi wrote:Can anyone here throw some light on Haryana politics: Why is sushma hell bent on avoiding alliance with INLD. Question is whether she is now working with NaMo and Rajnath or whether these are all her own initiatives! NaMo and Rajnath can use her and her status as not close to them for keeping more balls in the air.
For example, NaMo can ask her to talk Kuldeep Bishnoi into merging his party HJC into BJP promising him considerable say in the party's state unit and Haryan, and still go ahead with an pre-poll alliance with INLD.
Only if Hooda loses to get any LS seats for Congress, would the Congressi Jats be willing to switch allegiance to some other party, which could be BJP. In the long run, BJP should try to take over the Jat constituency.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Boss my take is (and no one knows the number, but among Hindu castes, Brahmin are highest number in UP, more than Yadavs, but then there are counter numbers as well). 60% (OR X%) of B vote is committed to one party, rest (y%) is the opportunistic part that swings around. In fact quite a decent % of this vote is dienasty nostalgic, but that is a small number, and they will never vote for anyone. Only kaal can take care of that. It maybe that y% maybe swinging back to where 60% (or x%) is parked. But did I not see Kalraj Mishra not that enthusiastic at Kanpur say compared to Bajpai or KS ji.
It's irony, If KS was left to his fate, we maybe talking about third term of NDA with him maybe the PM candidate. But fate no one knows!! We may have had a 3-4 trillion economy, surajya and suraksha!! But some people could not think ahead of their ego!!

Vijay Goel loses Delhi CM candidate race as RSS calls the shots
appointments within the BJP come without the approval of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has been reinforced yet again. This time Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel learnt the hard way that keeping the RSS happy is part of every BJP leader’s job.
The RSS stiffly opposed Goel’s chief ministerial candidature for the state ahead of the December Assembly elections. While Goel claimed on Monday that he had never sought to be the party’s CM face, insiders say that Goel’s high-handed approach after taking over the party’s reins in February alienated him from the RSS. The party’s front runner for the CM post now is Dr Harshvardhan (who uses his first name), who not only enjoys the RSS’ confidence but also has the support of senior party leaders, including LK Advani, Nitin Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj.
A well-placed source in the BJP said that Goel lost the chief ministerial candidature race due to strong opposition by RSS’ Delhi prant pracharak (state unit head) Anil Kant. “Kantji was not happy with Goel’s style of functioning and he (Kant) is the one who strongly opposed Goel’s candidature. Kantji’s opposition has cost Goel dear,” the source said.
Others too were unhappy with Goel’s one-man show in the party. Among them were RSS Delhi chief Kulbhushan Ahuja and Mukesh Punyani, who works as a link between the RSS and the Delhi BJP.
Another BJP insider told dna, on condition of anonymity, that ever since Goel took over the party’s Delhi unit in February, he stopped consulting the RSS on party affairs.
“The RSS leadership in Delhi has been unhappy with the way Goel is running the party. They brought it to his notice and when they failed to note any change in his style of functioning, the RSS leadership in Delhi stopped talking to him,” he said.
Goel, sources said, ignored the RSS while announcing his team despite the RSS’ objections in the appointment of district president, block president and state office bearers. Feeling left out, the RSS stopped giving its suggestions and refrained from taking interest in the party’s affairs in the city, he said.
Ironically, Goel should have been the last person to alienate the RSS. He rose to the party’s top position in the state because the RSS withdrew support to his predecessor Vijender Gupta, a popular corporator in Delhi.
“Despite leading the BJP to victory in all the three civic body elections in April 2012, Gupta was removed as party president to make way for Goel when the RSS withdrew its support to him over corruption allegations,” he said.
With elections around the corner, the RSS has been avtively participating in BJP’s decision making. BJP sources say the party has finalised Dr Harshvardhan to be its chief ministerial candidate and that a formal announcement will be made following a parliamentary board meeting, expected to be held by the month end.

the reality is "Party Cadres" are unhappy with Vijay Goel particularly after Vijay Goel refusing to press
for the case against Sheela Dixit use of Govt. fund in election campaign case, what he did was he collected few
old retired men from his mohalla and did a symbolic march, that too was not completed.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
There is no RSS involvement. Goel is not popular with BJP cadre in Delhi. He was pushed by Advani and now the putsch has finally come.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
RSS may have been miffed with Goel because as he was LKA man, he too may have been opposed to RSS involvement in party affairs.
However the reason why he has lost in the CM sweepstakes is not just because of that. He is indeed an organization man but one who likes to control too much, not involve others in programs, and work with only a subset of the cadre. Also he doesn't seem very charismatic. Basically his approach was perceived as not corrupt but power-hungry. He was perceived as a politician and not as a leader.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Actually it is incredible how well BJP and RSS have succeeded in changing the guard in BJP as well as placating the old guard in BJP without any untoward rebellion.
BJP must now ensure that not only they win Delhi but that AAP cannot win any seats at all, thus keeping Delhi as a bipolar contest in the future. Without any representation of AAP in Delhi Vidhan Sabha, AAP would disappear.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Yes AAP needs to be nipped. The bigger fear is that if they do well in Delhi, they will get massive funds to do damage in the LS elections. Given their meteoric rise, 6 months would have been a long time for them to do khujli. But the election is still not done, though HV can not b attacked the same was as VG.

Why BJP made Harsh Vardhan Delhi CM candidate: word from Modi: Hindustan Times
By Shekhar Iyer
Why BJP made Harsh Vardhan Delhi CM candidate: word from Modi: Hindustan Times
BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's "growing worry" about the party's prospects in Delhi played a catalytic role in the naming of Harsh Vardhan as chief ministerial candidate.
Even though his rally at the Japanese Garden in Rohini on September 29 was billed as a big success, Modi was "disturbed" by reports that the BJP was losing ground to fledgling Aam Admi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal.
BJP insiders said Modi got key aides and party officials to give him an assessment, which warned of serious setbacks in many areas unless the trend was reversed by projecting a "credible" face.
Modi agreed with the assessment by Nitin Gadkari, BJP's in-charge for Delhi, that Vardhan was the best bet in the circumstances.
Though he viewed Goel's organisational ability an "asset", Modi is understood to have concurred with views of LK Advani, Arun Jaitely and Sushma Swaraj, all of whom have favoured Vardhan for a long time.
BJP president Rajnath Singh, who had appointed Goel as the Delhi party chief in February, was initially reluctant about "changing horses mid-stream" but went along with the views of other leaders when shown survey reports.
BJP general secretary (Organisation) Ramlal, who supported Goel, also came on board when the RSS brass pressed for Vardhan's name.
Goel probably blundered when he refused to take other Delhi BJP leaders along with him when he set about revitalising the local units.
The fear of Goel's ability to swing selection of BJP candidates in his favour saw many leaders rush to Gadkari with complaints to ensure "justice" for all factions.
A "turning point" in the episode was when Arun Jaitely agreed with Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj’s assessment that Vardhan had to be brought to the fore to re-energise the campaign. Jaitley agreed that Goel's name was not catching the imagination of Delhi's voting class though he had worked hard.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
AAP setup shows how politics in dilli can be manipulated directly by funding from outside. However these outside funding agencies aren't under obligation to be answerable to CBI or such Indian investigation agencies.

good that Dr Harshvardhan is made the BJP cm candidate. beter late than never.
it will be good for uncommitted voters who wereput off by Goel - whatevr may be the reason is not a vote catcher nor cadres happy with him.
OTOH good that low purush acolytes are removed one by one.
--------------------------------------------------------
I believe aap is eating into congi votes a little more than BJP. there are some concerns from congis.
Intially the assessment was aap will eat into uncommitted voters and ensure easy win for congis.
But it is not exactly panning out as congis/aap expected.
overall better for aap to become a prime player with bjp rather than congis.
congis need to be decimated everywhere incuding delhi.
aap will be more easier to remove later than well entrenched congi network even though the same network follows aap.
simple reason is -- this will remove nehru dynasty which need congis to survive.

Harshavardhan is perfect. He is a doctor, a professional. Who doesn't respect a doctor? He is considered honest, just the kind of guy who should run where AAP is proliferating. He is considered a good speaker, may be not NaMo but still something one needs, and VG was not.Chandragupta wrote:Either Arun Jaitey or SS should be projected as Delhi CM. If the opponent was just Sheila Dixit, then of course some heavyweight like Arun Jaitley or Sushma Swaraj would have been the right choice, but not when AAP is also in the field.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
A CM candidate face for BJP changes the whole dynamic of the election in Delhi!
Now the debate can turn to the qualifications and achievements of individual candidates! If one pushes Arvind Kejriwal one step back based on qualifications and achievements, then one would be able to push him a lot further back on his association with sympathizers of Kashmir separatism and Maoism, and then still further back for calling Batla House encounter as fake.
Till now all these issues have been kept out of MSM but a CM candidate can make accusations and then they would have to be taken up by MSM as well, and then people not in Social Media too would know what is wrong with AAP.
AAP's charges that Dr. Harsha Vardhan is BJP Delhi's Manmohan Singh doesn't gel as former is a 5 time MLA. Dr. Harsha Vardhan doesn't really give AAP any further surface for hitting.
