Levant crisis - III
Re: Levant crisis - III
crater depth is impressive
Re: Levant crisis - III
Crater depth must be like 3-4 m ? Some kind of delayed fuse action mechanism in play.
Not sure the type of aircraft flying Su-30SM or Su-34 ?

Crater depth may be deceptive. The cave-in may have exposed the Underground Palace.
Re: Levant crisis - III
Al masdar news. This is 40km sw of raqqa where tiger force is trying to capture resafa junction. One road is to raqqa one to sukhnah and one back west to salamiyah
DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:45 P.M.) – The US-led international coalition shot down a Su-22M4 fighter jet belonging to Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) near Rusafa town in southwestern Raqqa countryside.
Syrian aircraft was conducting an air raid on positions held by the so-called “Islamic State” when the airbase lost contact with the pilot, about an hour ago.
At first, technical failure was considered the reason for the aircraft crash.
However, some 20 minutes ago, Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that it was coalition air force that had brought the SyAAF warplane down.

As per map tigers have circled around the sdf enclave in tabqah to head for resafa capturing a lot of oilfields. With the fairly weak sdf not in a position to take raqqa quickly...they have been asked to move east and south of tabqah under nato air support to try and block the tigers and grab what oilfields they can

Persians have stepped in to tide over manpower shortage on syrians side with pmu and afghans being moved in to patrol static fronts and hold static positions in concert with ndf while the regular syrian army nd hezbollah all march east from various axes.
They are also goading the iraqi govt to step up efforts to control and clean up the border tracts. Al qaim is a mandatory objective. Being anbar province the shia pmu units may not be used but warlike desert tribes..probably the same lot who helped the govt id and destroy the two huge isis convoys fleeing falluja

Looks like US forces are trying hard for SAA not to reach Syrian Iraq border in any substantial numbers hence the shooting and scaring tactics.

Re: Levant crisis - III
Syria frontlines @SyriaWarReports
#IS strategy is to tactically leave some Syrian land -> begin struggle between #SAA (Russia&Iran&Hezbollah) & #US (terrorists&turks&kurds)
^^^
so it looks like entire southern desert and southern countryside of raqqa has been vacated by ISIS - they are present along the river in madan, DEZ, mayadin, albukamal and in sukhanah in strength. maybe few 100 cut off in eastern hama now trying to sneak away under the tigers nose.
from their pov, they know the saa is unlikely to spare them. but get out of jail cards might be possible with the sdf , many of whose same sunni kinsmen joined the isis in the last few years .... look for sudden captures of towns along the euphrates with isis mysteriously melting away while fighting bitterly in sukhanah and against the tiger forces.
the syrians & persians are probably looking to bypass all this as plan B and move through the desert via T2 station to the albukamal - al qaim border to put a stake in the ground. it needs coop from iraqi side. and there was a high level syrian delegation meeting iraqi leadership in baghdad last week following which iraqis finally cleared their side of the al-tanf border and met up with the syrians militants camped on the other side.
if left unhindered the tigers could either make directly for DEZ via vacated desert and/or
creep to Sukhnah from behind for a hammer and anvil strategy
the deserts look bleak but all of syrian oil and gas lies under...incl a lot of it around DEZ

Re: Levant crisis - III
the territorial map is old but one can see the DEZ to iraqi border along euphrates is rich in oil and gas. could be split 50-50 if the syrians manage to relieve DEZ and march south to the border. if the PMU pushes in from the east could be 80-20 in favour of shia crescent.
rest of it the govt has under its control now except sukhnah , except a smallish ops in hasakeh under rojava

rest of it the govt has under its control now except sukhnah , except a smallish ops in hasakeh under rojava

Re: Levant crisis - III
imho it was a strategic error by the nato planners to focus on raqqa .. it has no real value in the war unlike the oil rich areas south of DEZ. they stopped about 50km north of DEZ at ash shahdadi. perhaps arab militias could not be goaded or induced to fight on further. the kurds were reluctant to even send forces for raqqa as they do not view it as part of rojava.
now they are stuck with 1 hand in the monkey trap and isis is defending raqqa tying up lots of manpower that could have been deployed to grab more land and block the saa.
their other problem is the same as saa - lack of trained manpower and weak logistics.
the pmu with its 140k listed headcount is the biggest force in the region by a long way.

my feeling is 80% they will head toward sukhanah now from its backdoor and keep clear of tangling with strong ISIS presence along the river towns. this will also reduce chances of clashes with SDF which they cannot afford to waste time on.,,keeping off roads and moving fast across the country... the SDF is anyway not interested in going to DEZ. between dez and raqqa seems to be less oil/gas...the meat is from dez to albukamal. every 'dog in the fight' is after it.
sukhnah has a lot of isis to club down and a lot of oil/gas.

Re: Levant crisis - III
persians have release grainy drone footage of BMs hitting isis positions. I can see 3 hits, the 4th hit is not there in recording atleast. dez is way too far for small tactical drones...so they are using MALE reaper type drones of their own or cheen origin ... and uplinking it via satellite. the quality of video is rather poor so maybe it lacks a thermal camera for night work. the russian orlan drones and the searcher2ski have better but not HD footage...atleast for public release.

Seems to be fairly accurate for a 700KM BM if the target were shown in the crosshair of the drone camera.
Great propaganda victory for the Iranians.Ofcourse this is kahepe nazar, kahepe nishana. The launch was probably let the Saudi know they(or houtis) can accurately target their palaces..
Now that everyone and his uncle has shown off their "mizzles", leaves out two loosers. The Chinese and us.
Pretty sure the Chinese will show off theirs(Saudis may fire their stock), couple of decades before the thought of using Brahmos will be discussed in GOI CCS!
