1989 : Rahul Gandhi wasn't eligible for admission to St. Stephen's College, Delhi due to poor marks.

Gvt declared him a shooting champion & granted him admission through a sports quota.

The family has always treated India as their colony—no wonder he doesn't want MERIT.

Naturally, *merit* is a wholly foreign concept to this man, whose position is owed entirely to the sheer accident of birth…

Rahul Gandhi now says "Merit is completely flawed and unfair idea.

This entire narrative is an UPPER CASTE Narrative"

Bala Saar,
https://x.com/sagorika_s/status/1905126 ... 8qqhA&s=19
A friend owns a small sporting goods store in Bangalore. Regardless of the government in place, he and other businesses around him are forced to pay lakhs in bribes. Lakhs.

Someone from the Department of Metrology will come in one day. Go through EVERY item in stock so they can find something where the label has fallen off or is less visible. They ask that it’s okay for them to give him a court date so he can resolve it. Or he can pay a “fine”.

In a few days, the Department of Labour comes in. They will come with several people and go through every book and registration. Find something to blackmail him about. Then ask for a fine. Mind you, this is a person that is a stickler for transparency and is very organised.

Then there is the GST audit. The slabs are very weird here. It goes from 2.5% to 18% even though everything is sports. They will find one entry in a thousand within the inventory and repeat threat of courts.

A businessman close by to his store told them no, they couldn’t do this and even he had political reach. They gave him a date to resolve it in court where he spent months trying to respond to the summons. Unsure which department it was for.

Then there is the trade licence. They need an NOC from everyone about the business. They can go and ask people in the neighbourhood if they are okay with the footfall or if it gets too noisy. If they can frame anything as a complaint, they do.

There are well-known characters in the process. A man, well-dressed, well-known to businesses across town, makes lakhs in a day. He sits at the store and does not budge until he finds something. Keeps conversation light. Finds something. Asks to be paid.

Add here the random drop-ins by the cops who tale away goods worth thousands for 200 because “if something happens, like the lock on your shutter door is broken or your store is vandalised, you will need us. Help us out for now.” That is a hardly veiled threat.

This is understood to be normal. This needs to change.
There will be millions of such examples happening all over Bharat, every day. People have to factor in such inescapable corruption as one of the items of cost of doing business and get on with it.
The babudom is so entrenched and creative, that's why I said (in this thread I think) one wouldn't know where to start or how. :(

On March 26, 2025 there is an advertisement by the Uttar Pradesh govt in Malayala Manorama newspaper in Kerala describing their achievements in the last 8 years. Finally some serious improvement in presenting the achievements of BJP governance. At least a few sections of the advertisement state the progress made from the year 2017 to the present. Still, a lot of data is given with no context, such as X crores to Y category of people, X number of facilities opened, etc. What the common man wants is to understand meaningful information about the progress made in comparison to the previous governments, not raw data.

Lots of data were presented. Stating a few interesting ones for the record.

1. Infrastructure

A. 6 Expressways completed. 11 in construction. After Ganga expressway 55% of expressways in India will be in U.P.
B. 491 km of Expressways in 2017 is now 1225 km in 2024.

C. 32,000 km of roads were constructed. 25,000 km road broadened and strengthened.

D. 4 airports in 2017 are now 21, including 5 international airports.

E. Jewar International Airport will be the largest air cargo hub in the country.

2. Law and order.

A.
As per NCRB data,
84.41% reduction in organised robbery, 77.43% reduction in robbery,
41.01% reduction in killing,
66.40% reduction in riots,
54.72% reduction in abduction & ransom,

17.08% reduction in dowry deaths,
26.15% reduction in rapes.

B.

222 criminals were killed.
28,000 criminals arrested.

C. 11 lakhs+ CCTV camera installed.

D. Response time of police control with the contact number 112 was 25.42 minutes in 2017, and now it is 7.24 minutes.

3. Spirituality and tourism.

A. Number 1 in attracting domestic and international tourists.
B. 66.30 people participateed in snan of Mahakumbh 2025.

4. Social welfare and economy.

A. 56 lakhs+ houses built in PMAY.
B. 1.8 Lakh+ street vendors got a total of 3000 crore in PMSY.
C. 2.36 crore + families got tap water in the Jal Jeevan project.

D. 8,58,750 General category students got a total of Rs 221.95 crore scholarship in Pre metric.
E. 48,13,347 General category students got Rs 5499.86 crore scholarship in post metric.
F. Per capita income increased from 46,000 in 2017 to 1,24,000.
G. The unemployment rate in 2016 was 18%, and in 2024, it was 3%.
E. Fair processes in the appointments of govt jobs, 8.5 lakhs govt jobs and 3.75 in contract jobs. (My comment - Modi talked about this particular issue in the election campaigns. More emphasis on the numbers and a colourful presentation of its impact would be helpful to imprint in the minds of voters)

F. 2+ crore jobs in the private sector.

5. Women empowerment.

A. 20% reservation for women in police.
B. 14% of women employees in 2017 is now 35.1%

I was in India recently and tried to sell couple of flats I inherited. Then I found your aadhar card had to be validated for everything. Problem was I have no idea what phone no or email address I gave when I registered for it, more than a decade ago. Ok, I went on line and set up an appointment for updating the phone and email (on line updating not allowed for whatever reason). 9:30 next day, reach the place (above Metro Station in Hyderabad). Found I went up the wrong staircase and had to buy a Rs 10/- ticket to cross over to the Aadhar Office. Was let in at 9:40 (few people were already ahead of me), interviewed by couple of the staff members, wait my turn to be photographed and do the eyescan (they said because of the no of years that passed I had better get them updated). 10:10 I am out. No hassles. No demand for any 'fee'. Like clockwork. Noticed on the screens of the staff a count down clock, like they have to finish each customer in a specified time (?). By the time I reached home my records were updated. Impressed.

Then the fun started when I started to sell the flats. Looks like the rates are fixed, some thing like 0.5% of the sale price the buyer (luckily not me) pays for registration (besides the stamp duty and the registration fee). Another fee for authentication for powers of attorney which I needed from my sister with whom I owned a flat jointly. Though I had a PofA (registered too) they said it has expired and not valid (never heard of power of attorney expiring). Then my sis sent me a notarized power of attorney - no they said it must be REGISTERED. Never heard of it either. Then we approach the SR at B'lore where my sis stays and not exactly mobile. There is 'fee' for him to come to her house (20k). But then they said I (the beneficiary of the PofA) must be present - never heard of that either. Any way I fly back to B'lore from HYD and get the PofA executed and registered and carry it personally to my town. It has to be 'authenticated' by local SR- the 'fee' - Rs 6k + 4k for urgency. Suddenly the clerk says you must get the B'lore SR certify by email that the PofA is Genuine. Never heard of this either. Anyway I barge into District Registrar's office and she agrees to 'authenticate' it.

Amit Shah blames West Bengal govt for India-Bangladesh border fencing delays, says 'TMC workers indulge in hooliganism'
“The fencing work of 450 km is pending because the West Bengal government is not giving land for it,” Shah said, adding that the ruling party in the state has repeatedly hindered security efforts. He further alleged that whenever authorities attempt to proceed with fencing, “ruling party workers indulge in hooliganism and religious sloganeering.”
TMC demands completion of fencing
Rajya Sabha Trinamool Congress MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray on Thursday called on the central government to expedite the fencing of the India-Bangladesh border on a war footing. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Ray highlighted that 865 km of the 4,096.7 km border remains unfenced, posing security concerns.

The CCPA guidelines prohibiting mandatory imposition of service charges by hotels and restaurants has been upheld by the Delhi HC.

The service charge on food & beverage bills are only voluntary in nature.

judiciary decide and appoint themselves, investigate themselves, punish themselves and also decides to govern the nation.

Why the heck do we waste money on elections

judiciary has no jurisdiction. they know it.

The GoI should clarify to the judiciary in no uncertain terms that they cannot implement it as it falls outside the purview of judiciary.

+ anything where lawyers get involved. The PoA business is just a part of how lawyers do rent seeking and make their money (also deliver it to other public servants involved). They make sure the process on the ground is convoluted beyond the process that you'll find online. They then seek their fees to smoothen out the process. They would even make you run in circles after getting the money.

Looks like a lazy or dumb (take your pick) officer is being called out here.

Delhi HC rejects Centre's order cancelling OCI card of academic Ashok Swain
The high court, on July 10, 2023, set aside the government's order, saying it did not give reasons and "hardly gave any indication of application of mind".

The high court had directed the Centre to pass a detailed order within three weeks giving reasons for exercising its powers under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The petition said despite such specific and unequivocal directions of the high court to pass a detailed order, authorities padded the July 30, 2023 order in a callous manner by merely paraphrasing the provisions of law.
But if this stands, the OCI program itself needs to be looked at afresh with language added to the law to clarify matters.

per wiki

Binayak Sen (Hindi: बिनायक सेन, Bengali: বিনায়ক সেন) is a paediatrician, and public health specialist.[2] He is the national Vice-President of the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).[3] He is the recipient of several awards including the Jonathan Mann Award, the Gwangju Prize for Human Rights, and the Gandhi International Peace Award.[4]

Binayak Sen originally started working as a paediatrician extending health care to poor people in the rural-tribal areas of the Chhattisgarh state, doubling up as a human rights activist. While Sen has worked with the state government on health sector reform[5] he has also strongly criticised the government on human rights violations during the anti-Naxalite operations, while advocating non-violent political engagement.[6]

In May 2007, he was detained for allegedly supporting the outlawed Naxalites which would violate the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act 2005 (CSPSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.[7][8] Sen first applied for bail before the Raipur Sessions Court and then the Chhattisgarh High Court in July 2007, soon after his arrest.[9] Sen spent over two years in jail on charges of acting as a courier between Naxal leader Sanyal and businessman Piyush Guha. He was also accused of having associations with the CPI (Maoist), a group linked to the Naxal movement.[10] but was granted bail by the Supreme Court of India on 25 May 2009.[11]

In 2010, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by Raipur Sessions Court, Chhattisgarh, for sedition and helping Naxalites to set up a network to fight the State.[12] He was granted bail on 15 April 2011 by the Supreme Court of India which gave no reason for the order.[13] Sen has filed an appeal before the Chhattisgarh High Court and the case is pending.

Judges have become law unto themselves. Their unbridled power needs serious look and constitutional amendments to make them accountable to the parliament. They keep interpreting the constitution in creative ways to serve their own interests and keep increasing their interference in every organ of the state. As a start, we need a provision where laws passed by 2/3 majority of parliament and majority of state assemblies (like NJAC Act) are outside the purview of the supreme court, as these represent the overwhelming will of the people.

Also, any court judgement that goes to increase the power of judges should mandatorily need parliamentary approval.

Not sure if this is a good move. To attract and keep service staff, restaurants will have to increase their pay to compensate for the uncertainty and probable loss of tips revenue, and of course recover the same from customers in the form of increased prices. Or reduce staff and increase work load on employees, who will end up struggling to serve customers like before and will end up getting less tips which are now optional. Overall service quality will take a hit and the restaurant business will be impacted.

If restaurant owners don't increase pay, the service staff who make meager earnings in most cases will be hit.

A better solution would be to include say 10% service charge as mandatory and ensure the money is paid to staff and this should be audited.

The customers can always tip if they feel they got great service.

Cyrano ji,

These restaurant owners run on profit margins of around 60 - 70%, that is the usual margin for this industry. Greedy hotel owners start out with expensive menus but about 80% fail to make the cut and they shut shop.

Most restaurants fail because the greedy owners don't understand the dynamics of pricing vis-à-vis the paying customer, and also the financial and social kinetics of the catchment area that these restaurants service.

For every 50-60 restaurants that fail, a few good ones will always make the cut because of their focussed attention to all round quality in every aspect of the business

Customers are very savvy, and can always tell if the restaurant's offerings represent value for money. They may get taken for a ride the one odd time, but many will never return and will also tell their friends and relatives to avoid the place. Soon, the portion sizes will reduce, and the number of items on the menu will decrease, staff will dwindle and the online reviews reflecting poor service, bad food, and complaints, will increase along with evidence of poor hygiene and at home, the owner's shrill demands on the father in law for more dowry will skyrocket.

Malls and "high streets" in cities are always the exception. The floating population comes to these places, not to eat the food, but to be seen in a trendy and hep places. The restaurant owners in such places get away with charging outrageously high prices and serve terrible food and rarely is there any blowback

People will not tolerate unjustifiable higher prices, so let the owners raise their rates and see their customers moving to places more reasonably priced outlets.

Either way, their strategy was only to increase margins, one way or the other.

people from the NE end up working for a fraction of the amount paid to local staff who end up getting displaced in their own states

This is seen in every city in India, but more so in the south

The staff at restaurants other than the 5 starred places, usually use untrained staff, or alleged khansamas, or some guy usually called the "master" who is normally scruffy, visibly unhygienic, and more often than not, unbathed and reeking of tarra. The owners pay accordingly.

BTW, how is the customer, in any way, shape or form, responsible for the well being of restaurant's staff or it's owner.

The capitalist owners' always want uncomplaining and docile socialist customers.

This is a good move for India.

In france, one knows that they are more socialist about such things. Their 10% tip is built into the bill

They didn't even fight in the two great wars, they let others do it for them and in "victory" they dressed like vainglorious peacocks and paraded grandly down the Champs-Élysées.

Let's see... There is no easy solution for this. In any product + service business the challenge is the same.

Like you pointed out, hygiene and food quality is a huge risk when eating out in India.

Remember the recent expose of dog meat being supplied to big hotels and restaurants in Bangalore? Quelle horreur !!

When in India I rarely eat out now, and when I do it's only pure veg places.

Especially, in pure veg places, watch out for the paneer.

From what one hears, and in comparison, the dog meat may be preferable .....

Pic 1- Judge Yashwant Varma. Allegedly, crores of rupees found at his residence. SC merely transfers him & set up in-house inquiry. No FIR.

Pic 2- Justice Chinnaswamy Karnan, after serving 6-mth jail term for writing letter to PM #Modi Ji alleging corruption against 20 Judges. SC charged him with contempt of court & gave 6 months imprisonment.

Corruption isn't a problem, Alleging or Exposing Corruption is the real problem in 'Indian' Judiciary System.

Sanyal is referring to Indian CEPI board member is Gagandeep (cherry) Kang from christian medical college vellore...she is based out of Seattle involved in bill and melinda gates foundation[/b]

Not surprising, CMC Vellore is run by missionaries who are funded by NGOs from UK and Australia mostly.. with deep rooted connections in particular American universities. They run a whole gamut of drug trials funded by western pharmaceutical companies. Pfizer, Eli Lilly , major vaccine manufacturers contribute a lot to their kitty funding studies and trials on Indian population especially in Tamil nadu. ..this has been going on for decades.

Of particular interest is the number of christian missionary NGO s working around vellore in tamil nadu

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai wrote in his X post, see the full post and the many attached images which provides a sample lists of the corruption.

https://x.com/annamalai_k/status/190629 ... hrClg&s=19
Tamil Nadu CM Thiru @mkstalin should answer the following questions.
...

We have given one sample village for the people to understand the magnitude of this corruption.

2)Are you aware that the states with three times or five times more rural populations have received lesser funds than Tamil Nadu under the MGNREGA scheme?

3)When do you plan to fulfill the poll promise of increasing the MGNREGA workdays from 100 to 150?
.....

MGNREGA irregularity in one panchayat in Erode District in Tamil Nadu. (2/4)

Since Northern rural area population is higher and are lower in development how come Tamil Nadu received more MGNREGA money? I didn't know that corruption of this scale is possible!! I had read earlier about the geo-tagging of the works completed, specifically selected productive jobs etc so as to ensure that money is not wasted. What are the suggestions to avoid this kind of waste and corruption?

It would have been better if Annamalai had provided the screenshot of original proofs or how to check the authenticity of the allegations of corruption. Each person who wants to know the truth searching through the cumbersome processes of verification in internet is not an ideal situation.

We need to focus, SRajesh ji. :)

Among the 13 blocks are three blocks for mining construction sand in the coast of Kollam - and three blocks for polymetallic nodules off the coast of the Great Nicobar Islands-

The real target is in the andamans and it's not only for offshore mining.

These projects have major security implications for the cheenis and not in a good way either

the rest of the places mentioned are mere window dressing and are just to divert attention.

some loser h@lfbreed puppet has just been wound up and triggered by his ching chong puppet masters to perform the standard issue, NGO SOP mandated, environmental belly dance routine, per the embedded algorithm

slimy jairum rubbish had said the same thing a few weeks ago but no one paid him any heed, so the ching chongs have now sent in a rusted तोप, but of a slightly larger calibre (capable of firing only blanks, BTW)

And this is what our enemies have already done to us
The Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, was shut down in 2018 due to environmental concerns and protests. The cheeni funded and instigated this economic attack on India, helped by anti India locals in the state ruling party

The amrikis/frogs were behind the koodankulam protests to slow/stop the building of nuclear power plants

hong kong is due to return to complete chinese sovereignty in some years from now, if current agreements are not extended, which means that many companies may prefer to shift out, if similar financial facilities and enabling ecosystems are available somewhere close by

Fears loom over India's 'Hong Kong' project on a remote island

India plans a multi-billion ‘Hong Kong-like’ development project on the Great Nicobar Island

There are many flaws in this govt too. Especially Modi is not able to reign in on the corruption of states, nor can fix the Judiciary that's now openly flaunting their new powers. Corruption at state levels are at all time high where the leaders are acting as if they are not afraid any more to loot the people and everything is done in front of the people. Lot of Wokeism is there in the govt way of functioning and his minions are bringing more sufferings on the people. Also technology which is supposed to help the people has now become a double edged sword bringing the govt into peoples lives. Govt is not yet able to abolish many laws that are useless for humans, giving Bureaucracy power and reach to the people to loot them. He is expecting people to see it and act also by correcting the voting mistakes. And the peoples reach to redress governance issues are limited to there. People cannot override or decide once they have elected a state govt. 5 year term should be reduced to 4 is my opinion, since the damage done will be little less at state govt levels. Once the people has seen it, experienced the sufferings, still the action is missing.

Well said. 240 cannot be the standard excuse for the next 4+ years for Modi & BJP & NDA allies to not take drastic measures needed to rev up India's transformation to the next level.

Chetakji
Thanks for the update.
And a belated Happy New Year to all Lunar Calendar BRFites.
A question to all Bhailog ( and mind you this is purely out of the box and some might say too much of eating Obattu effect!!  ):
given the 240 debate, what if the WAQF bill doesnt pass muster??
Can a setback be used as weapon, meaning, call snap election end of this year and let Yogi take reins!!
Given public disgust at the woke infested opposition and judiciary, can it lead to a 400 Paar!! 8)

Also
May I ask a question:
Why do we BJP and their spokemen go soft on Owaisi and his ilk??
I mean just by All India to the Razakar party has made him and the party Uber Secular in the eyes of woke-shit media(at least some of them)
I had read somewhere that the choosing of leader of AIMIM is like annoiting a Mars-e-Momeen as Risaldar or Sardar or some such thing??
In effect he is a leader of a Secular Janjhaweed(if there is one such group)
Or is it really that he is B team propped up by BJP just to cut Momeen vote??
