B.C. MP Sukh Dhaliwal, meanwhile, told reporters he met with Carney early Wednesday to express what he says are constituents' frustrations with the decision to include Modi.
"The RCMP has clearly stated there's credible evidence Indian agents were involved in the assassination of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil," Dhaliwal said of Nijjar. "It's a bad idea" to include Modi, he said.

Dhaliwal said Carney is "very strong" on the issue and will represent Sikh concerns about Indian interference and transnational crime when speaking to Modi.

Liberal MP Karina Gould, a past cabinet minister and leadership contender, said human rights should be on the agenda when Carney meets with Modi.
She also criticized the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who will not attend.
"I understand why they were invited. Part of diplomacy is having these conversations — you don't shut the door to them," Gould said. "But we're also standing up for values that are important to Canadians."

Why do I get the sense that the India China US relationship is like ghar ki murghi daal barabar. But when push comes to shove it's the Ghar ki murghi that one relies on.SRajesh wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025 11:33 AmberG Saar,
The worry is not so much as 'Taskent 2.0' but what public utterances the 'Blonde Bombshell' will come out with just before, during and immediately after the G7!!
Given that there are two further engagements with China : BRICS and SCO all depeends on what compromises POTUS has made in his negtiations with Dragon for a G2 world!!
Both would like to maintain the aura of sophisticated military toys but : given all that they do in real life is beat the crap out of countries with Gen 1.5 techs
Wouldn't be surprised to see some startegical type pappi jhappi around G7 or soon after. See Amber bahens post earlier.
How does this square with what you posted earlier? viewtopic.php?p=2651753#p2651753

Then they wonder why jatt Sikh faces and names dominate the crime pages.
Prime Minister Modi has attended every G7 since 2018, which is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Indian technology, and the leadership position India plays in its host of venues from G20 and beyond. So, as Chair of the G7, hosting the Prime Minister in that context is entirely natural, entirely consistent. I fully expect the Prime Minister of India to be in attendance at the G7 in France next year...,"
Since the mid-1980s, the PMVE threat in Canada has manifested primarily through Canada-based Khalistani extremists (CBKEs) seeking to use and support violent means to create an independent nation state called Khalistan, largely within Punjab, India.
.....
While there were no CBKE-related attacks in Canada in 2024, ongoing involvement in violent activities by CBKEs continues to pose a national security threat to Canada and Canadian interests. In particular, real and perceived Khalistani extremism emerging from Canada continues to drive Indian foreign interference activities in Canada.
In December 2018, the Canadian government released its annual 'Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada'. This was the first time the Canadian government had made an outright mention of 'Sikh extremism' and Khalistan in its annual terror threat report.
The report said Canada continued to face threats from “individuals inspired to commit violence based on other forms of extremism, including from...Sikh (Khalistani) extremists”.
The report further mentioned that attacks by Khalistanis in Canada were extremely limited, but "some Canadians continue to support these extremist groups, including through financing".
Following the release of the report, Trudeau's government faced backlash from Sikh groups, who campaigned for deleting references to Sikh extremism and Khalistan.
Notorious Khalistan supporter and chief of banned outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, accused Trudeau of labelling Sikhs as "terrorists" and seeing them only as a "cash cow" to help fund elections.
The report posed a dilemma for Trudeau's Liberal Party before the election as the Sikh diaspora formed a notable part of its vote bank. Organisers of the annual Khalsa parade in Surrey had threatened to bar any member of the Liberal Party from speaking from the platform during the Baisakhi event.
Moreover, at that time, there were at least 16 Sikh MPs in the Trudeau government, including four in his cabinet. The then Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan was a Sikh as well.
GIVING IN TO KHALISTANI PRESSURE
In the eye of a storm, Trudeau's government gave in to the pressure and published a revised report in April 2019. In the new report, the mention of Sikh extremism and Khalistan was gone.
