Modi 3.0 - Bharat

India’s NSA Ajit Doval’s eye-opening lesson after change of regimes in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal
Re: Modi 3.0 - Bharat
this guy is an opiniated ass. The very fact that his "article" has been published in the @timesofindia is damning enough
My article in today’s @timesofindia.
I argue that while it is the duty of the state to ensure compliance of visa conditions, it has no business to assess the scholarship of a professor.
India must guard against any impression it has closed its doors on foreign scholars

Re: Modi 3.0 - Bharat
There has been a flood of articles in Indian media supporting this foreign professor's case. This happens every time a Western professor's visa is denied by Modi Govt. Coupta and Indian Express are old culprits in promptly carrying these articles supporting the foreign professor's case and criticizing Indian govt., even though Western countries routinely deny visas to Indian professors. The US and UK embassies have iron-like grip on Indian English media and they have cultivated stooges who write articles on their command, pushing their interests against the Indian govt. I have a strong feeling the anti-Diwali campaign in Times of India is also being run by these embassies.

sanjayc ji,
This is the typical "लोग क्या कहेंगे" syndrome, where the rule of law is given a cursory go by because of the apprehension that some goras may say something derogatory.
dasgupta is a dying relic of the of the diehard colonial mentality, masquerading as an intellectual and yet so very eager to find himself a political sinecure in some BJP gaddi or other
Such buddhi jeevies have an ingrained compulsion to grovel at the feet of goras, hoping that some crumbs off the table may be directed their way
Taking any stand (except the anti India stand) on any topic is alien to such people
This would not have gone unnoticed in those political circles that he aspires to move in
His choice of words in the article is quite revealing: "thought police", "unsavory reputation", "saffron ecosystem", "preemptory deportation" vagera, vagera......
perhaps this would help one better understand the bengali baboo's angst at being sidelined by the BJP
dasgupta was considered as a potential candidate for the position of High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, and that he himself had expressed a desire for the role.

One thing I noticed on my recent visit to India is that immigration at the airport was questioning the intent to enter India pretty thoroughly. Even for those with OCI.
This questioning increases the possibility that someone is truthful about their intent, but is now going run afoul of some of conditions of the visa they were granted.
We hear of these cases only when someone is otherwise connected to be able to get their story in the media.

By Nandini:
|"The year was 1980.
Indian television had very little to offer, and it was around this time that one of my friends knowing of my interest in theatre, asked whether I’d be interested in joining a show being put up on Doordarshan. The person leading the initiative, she said, was someone she knew, the daughter of a senior bureaucrat posted at Doordarshan.
Even at that age, I could tell the script was nothing remarkable. The entire setup was rather amateurish - more suited to a college festival than national television but we nevertheless had a great deal of fun rehearsing this parody on Shakespeare.
Now, to the actual story.
It was around Diwali, and our rehearsals were held at her residence in Pandara Road. The doorbell seemed to ring endlessly, one uniformed chauffeur after another, or some junior aide arriving with gifts.
From behind the mesh door, she would call out, all of eighteen years old, “Kya laya?”
“Madam,” the man would begin respectfully, “Saab ke liye TV laye hain.”
“Rakh do,” she would order, and the item would be placed on a table kept specifically for the purpose.
Sometimes it was a dinner set. Sometimes a food processor. A cut-glass vase.
But god forbid if it was dry fruit or mithai.
“No perishables! No perishables!” she would shriek. “Vapas le jaane ka!”
And sure enough, the man would reappear the next day with something more ‘desirable.’
For the rest of us, still naïve, cocooned, and unaccustomed to such “transactions” - it was fascinating to watch someone barely older than us manage this little economy of favours with such flair.
Two years later, that same girl married and moved to the US. My friend, the one who had introduced me to her was doing her master’s there.
They met by chance at a mall, where she suddenly realised her companion was shoplifting. Horrified, she distanced herself immediately.
Not long after, the girl was caught in the act and even served a short jail term.
It must be said - those who never learn to pay their way eventually find it difficult to live in a world where they must, like the rest of us."|
