I wonder what happens in Maharashtra now. While the state government is not in danger, its likely that Ajit Pawar MLAs and other elected representatives of various bodies will revert back to Sharad Pawar. This may cause some changes in some bodies…
My read on the situation:
Ajit Pawar was Charade's only hope of continuing the family business/"dhandha" via politics. Now he is gone. Charade himself is at end of career and there is no future of NCP with him.
It seems like the widow of Ajit (Sunetra) is being pushed into a leadership position. She would contest byelection on Ajit's seat and also possibly replace Ajit in the MH cabinet. So obviously it looks like they will stay in NDA.
According to media reports, Ajit's "last wish" expressed in meetings was to merge Charade's NCP (SP) with his party (NCP), given the results of the recent assembly and municipal elections. My interpretation of that is "the united/merged NCP would continue in the NDA with Ajit as leader".
On Charade's side, there is only Supriya Sule, who is a total disaster in politics like U/R Thakre...all useless and entitled dynasts with no capability of their own. Let us see what her moves are. My guess is that Charade will tell her to throw in the towel, join NCP, ride piggyback on NDA, and just maybe one day break away as the principal opposition.
As for BJP, they have absolutely no need for NCP, Ajit, Sunetra, Supriya et al. NCP is existing in NDA and MH sarkar as a BJP courtesy.
All the goodies remain with the BJP which has controlling interest all through the political chain.
All "partners" are bit players and no one will leave because everyone thinks that each will have something to gain.
if anyone outside the established chain tries to muscle in, that branch will be amputated without mercy. Parts of this branch are already radioactive with the dilli brigade, and the local branches have strong ties with sickulars, with a history of repeatedly demonstrated inclination for gaddari
No matter who said what about "iccha" for merger, the reality is that the fadnavis led dispensation was going to cut them out of the BMC administration because they fought the mayoral polls separately, aligned with jihadis.
At stake are the RS seats, MLC seats, chairmanship of various committees, govt companies etc, along with other sundry "malai" positions that come with car, house and security attached. No one is going to leave, not when such largesse is visible to them and everyone in the ecosystem will be hoping to get something for themselves
But alienating the gaddar branch at this emotionally surcharged time will be political suicide.
The son is enmeshed in a land scam and so he becomes a non starter because of some "thick" files that exist. The other runs the family business.
The scramble has already started to fill the political vacuum that has been created. grandpa and daughter are unacceptable contenders currently but one never knows how the chips may fall, especially in family politics but the beti has been intemperate in her behaviour towards the current CM and has no demonstrated capability for govt work or or even the hint of any sort of administrative competence
"Outside" support for the ruling dispensation is looking more than likely, even as the clock ticks and reality starts to bite, and that is what fadnavis may possibly do to counter the blackmail of a greedy ally
