The Next Gen Corvette (NGC) project for 5 hulls (GRSE) +3 hulls (L2 bidder, thought to be GSL) is underway with contract finalization expected by end March 2026. The NGC is slightly bigger than the Project 11356 Talwar class but displaces considerably more. Expect similar combat systems as the P17A to be installed. In other words, the NGC is a sort of mini P17A. More details will emerge in the coming years. It is likely GRSE will outsource construction of some NGC hulls to a private shipyard.

NGC could be this. Yes Rakesh-ji, the second image in your post.

8x Next Generation Corvette to get CCS nod | Doctrine Shift

Major Boost to Indian Navy’s Combat Power.

1. The plan to build 8 Next-Generation Corvettes (NGCs) will:

* Replace ageing ships like the Abhay-class corvette
* Strengthen littoral warfare capability (coastal + near-sea dominance)
* Add distributed firepower—many smaller, lethal ships instead of only a few large ones

In modern naval warfare (especially after Ukraine & Red Sea lessons), smaller, stealthy, missile-armed ships are extremely valuable.

2. Shift Toward “Distributed Lethality” Doctrine. Instead of relying only on big ships like destroyers (e.g., Visakhapatnam-class destroyer), navies now:

* Spread weapons across multiple smaller platforms
* Make it harder for the enemy to neutralize the fleet in one strike

NGCs will likely carry:

* Anti-ship missiles (possibly BrahMos missile or next-gen variants)
* Advanced sonar for ASW
* Modern air defence systems

So each corvette becomes a mini, multi-role combat vessel.

India’s ₹4000 Crore Mine That Can Sink Any Warship

As tensions rise in the Strait of Hormuz, naval mines are once again shaping modern warfare. But what is India building? Chakra News breaks down the ₹4000 crore Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM)—a smart, indigenous system designed to detect, track, and destroy enemy ships and submarines.

Yes, indeed. Have your own test facilities and simulation stuff.

The Indian Navy knows what is really required and they go about things the sane way. Can't say the same for the Army and Airforce.

> Boosts propulsion & hydrodynamic validation

https://x.com/DefenceDecode/status/2040 ... 43219?s=20 ---> India establishes Cavitation Tunnel for advanced naval R&D. It is a critical test facility for studying fluid dynamics and cavitation effects on underwater platforms. Enables design of quieter submarine propellers, hence enhanced stealth. Improves warship efficiency & durability. Reduces acoustic signature, boosting sonar performance. Supports development of next-gen torpedoes & underwater weapons. It will reduce dependence on foreign testing & design inputs.

Raksha Mantri lays foundation stone of Large Cavitation Tunnel at NSTL, Visakhapatnam to boost naval research & testing capabilities
https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage ... g=3&lang=2
03 April 2026

https://x.com/DefProdnIndia/status/2040 ... 69336?s=20 ---> Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on 03 April 2026, laid the foundation stone of the state-of-the-art Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT) facility at the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), a premium laboratory of DRDO in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The facility will significantly enhance India’s naval research and testing capabilities, marking a major step towards achieving technological self-reliance.

https://x.com/DefenceMinIndia/status/20 ... 94916?s=20 ---> If I talk about this Cavitation Tunnel, I feel that it wouldn't be right to consider it merely as an infrastructure project. In itself, it is an enabling system. Through it, we will be able to improve propulsion systems, work on noise reduction, and further strengthen stealth capabilities. Moreover, it will also serve as a backbone for the design of submarines and ships. This project is also a symbol of the success of the resolve for Atmanirbhar Bharat. Under the leadership of our Prime Minister, when we began moving forward with the slogan of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat,’ there was only one resolve in our minds. That resolve was this: we must make India self-reliant in every sector that is connected to India’s security system. This resolution was grand, and it came with numerous challenges as well. But we received ample support from every sector. Our industries, our academia, our MSMEs, our youth, our researchers—all made efforts in this direction. And today, we are witnessing its results at the grassroots level. Today, there are many areas where we have become completely self-reliant: Defence Minister Shri @rajnathsingh

https://x.com/Neetivaan/status/2040049318346764391?s=20 ---> Let's understand what Cavitation Tunnel is, in an easy way.

A cavitation tunnel is like a water laboratory, scientists put inside a big glass water tunnel, then they make water move very fast to create bubbles and study cavitation.

> small submarine models
> ship propellers
> torpedoes
> underwater vehicles, etc.

Cavitation tunnel helps design quieter and better propellers so submarines don’t get detected and destroyed. This is a very good step.

VIDEO: https://x.com/ANI/status/2040033557876486258?s=20 ---> Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh says, "Under DRDO, the work done by NSTL (Naval Science & Technological Laboratory) is a benchmark in itself. The research being conducted here on torpedo systems, decoys, underwater mines and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles - all of this is taking India forward in the direction of making it a strong naval power. Your growing capabilities indicate that we are taking the right steps towards future warfare. Moreover, the way you have worked on Lithium-ion battery technology is also very important. Earlier, we used to depend on others for these things. Today, we are designing ourselves, developing ourselves, and working with small and large industries to advance it."

gotta have those 10-100KW lasers and small canister launched anti drone systems in 100s on board now. Hope the new destroyers and frigates are designed with that in mind.
