Re: Understanding the US - Again
^^^ that is why I speculate there is something fishy. Of course, this young man may have developed some mental disease after his academic years.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
^^^ Also two hours after a man with a shotgun fired shots at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, sixteen of the most prominent MAGA influencers on X all posted the same message.
The message was not "thank God the President is safe."
The message was "this is why we need the White House ballroom."
And this same refrain from POTUS right after ..(" I want the WH Barloom .." "Honored to be among great impactful people (for only those who are target ..." etc)

Re: Understanding the US - Again
IMO, this person demonstrated genius in using the scientific approach to conduct the attack.
In that he went in with no assumptions that the hotel would be locked down and highly secure. Found an opening and exploited it. This attack stands out in its simplicity.

"This attack stands out in its simplicity.....to lobby for a Ballroom...!!

Re: Understanding the US - Again
Maybe he was bitter that what he thought about his potential did not really translate into anything approaching fame. All the rhetoric that is going on against Trump, he, too is blaming Trump for not achieving the fame he deserved. After all he had been living with his parents even after plunking down huge sums to go to CalTech. Even if he had both need-based and merit-based tuition awards, it is still quite expensive to live in the dorm. Scholarships cover only tuition and such but not room and board (AFAIK).
Re: Understanding the US - Again
@vera_k ji, no no no.
He found a way to direct his bullets through a Calabi–Yau manifold and use some of the extra spatial dimensions to guide them to the target. Should be fairly easy for a genius-level graduate from CalTech. He might even have found a way to make the bullets travel back in time and hit the POTUS when they are entering the concourse.

By the way, the gunman's full name is CT Allen, Cole Thomas Allen. That is a dead give away that this is a false flag op by Trump to lobby for the new grand ballroom.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Aah. The insanity defense. I am sure defense attorneys will certainly try for something like that, inspite of finding a manifesto from CT Allen.

On a serious note, here are results from an opinion poll conducted by Kettering Project/Gallup Democracy For All Project, July 7- August 25, 2025.
Americans' acceptability of political violence

Age 30 to 44 21%
Age 45 to 59 13%
Age 60 to xx 4%

The White House Correspondents Dinner cannot be held in a White House ballroom.
For one, that would be like me hosting a party held by you. Second, Trump’s ballroom, monstrosity that it is, is designed to seat 999 people. The Washington Hilton International ballroom seats 2,670 for black-tie events.

Trump to Rename ICE as ‘NICE’? Viral Post Sparks Fresh Immigration Policy Debate in US – Here’s What We Know
Amreen Ahmad, April 27, 2026
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly supported a viral suggestion to rename Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as “NICE” short for National Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The idea emerged from social media and quickly gained attention after Trump reshared it on Truth Social, writing “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT.”
ICE is a key federal agency under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for immigration enforcement, deportation operations and detention oversight. It carries out more than 100,000–200,000 removals annually in typical enforcement cycles, depending on federal priorities and border conditions. The proposal has triggered political debate, especially as immigration remains one of the most divisive policy issues in the United States.
Trump Endorses Viral “NICE” Idea
The discussion began when a social media post suggested that renaming ICE to “NICE” could influence public perception, as media outlets would repeatedly use a softer-sounding acronym.

Re: Understanding the US - Again
The delivery of the speech by King Charles of UK had both Dems & Repubs clapping and smiling, so the Dems do like Kings albeit of another nation. Surreal behaviour of both parties agreeing with Charles and UK. SoreAss was scowling perhaps in his hideout in NY. Interesting the Brits cite common law etc but much of their law originated from India's Chanakya rule. They had sanskrit scholars translate India's law and adopted the same for their nation and the world.

King Charles III speeches to Congress and at the White House - both are masterpieces of style in rebuking Trump in the most polite language possible.
Am not supportive of the monarchy but they certainly have good speechwriters and an art of speech delivery. Worth seeing what can be adapted from that style.

Trump is demanding Zambia to hand over its mineral rights by end of day tomorrow or the U.S. gov’t will cut off the country’s access to the AIDS medications that are literally keeping its citizens alive.

Conditioning HIV treatment on free mineral access isn’t diplomacy, it’s extortion.

^^^
The situation centers on a leaked U.S. State Department memo (first reported by The New York Times) regarding a "trade-for-aid" strategy. Here is the breakdown of the current status:
The Trump administration is reportedly leveraging PEPFAR (the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) funding as a "stick" to pressure the Zambian government.
The Demand: - Zambia must sign a "Bilateral Compact" giving U.S. companies preferential access to its vast reserves of copper, cobalt, and lithium—minerals essential for green energy and tech hardware.
The Deadline: Is a "May 2026" cutoff to finalize parts of the deal, which aligns with my note about "tomorrow".
Approximately 1.3 million Zambians currently rely on daily HIV medication provided through this U.S. aid.
Over 90 global health organizations sent a joint letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio this month, urging him to repudiate the strategy and calling it "holding lifesaving medical aid hostage."
This not OLD but the current and developing news. The reports surfaced in mid-March 2026 and have reached a critical point this week.

Ji aid was cut virtually halved last year,
https://foreignassistance.gov/cd/zambia ... igations/0
Furthermore, why does the narrative presume that American taxpayers are responsible for Zambian patients and not the Chinese who are currently asset stripping Zambia? If the Chinese want the copper then let them fund Zambian healthcare.

It's a tried and tested method, Lisa ji.
china uses the very same technique in nepal, maldives, beediland and lanka and India provides the goods and money to sustain the locals without getting anything in return
these jokers all fear the cheen but have no objection to constantly freeloading on India and still cursing India for not doing enough for them
the cheen neither care nor bother to help them out in any way, and no one dare call them out
The amrikis are pioneers in the use of this modus operandi, and the cheen have refined this modus vivendi in to a fine art
the amrikis and the cheen do not let social good in any form to contaminate their predatory business dealings
the narrative has nothing to with the amriki taxpayer, who is as much a victim as the average zambian is
If any aid was halved, it was merely a negotiating position to force concessions from the hapless zambians, and unlock long term preferential access to their vast reserves of copper, cobalt, and lithium.
It's the age old colonial way that the big boys conduct their business with the marginalised countries, leveraging without conscience, any and every weakness/need that can be capitalised upon.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Chetakji,
Situation in this case is regretfully more complex. American diplomats were regularly buying Free American Medicines in pharmacies all over Zambia. Zambian government was repeatedly asked to stop this leakage and in effect declined as the correct pockets were being lined by this corruption. US said, fine, we will stop this aid. Now this all Trumps fault even though it was the Biden administration that found this corruption!
Translation - American taxpayers owe Zambian politicians a living.

Lisa ji,
one gets the point that you are making. This is something of a universal problem in almost all low income countries
BTW, similar things happened in many countries, including India, with medicines and supplements that were gifted by several UN agencies, directly to the concerned governments, and specifically meant for the low socio economic and marginalised sections, for gratis distribution, medicines and supplements, which more often than not found their way to the open markets for sale.

Let us say there was no foreign intervention in Zambia, then these 1.3 million Zambians would not be alive; but nor would any foreign power now have leverage over Zambian mineral wealth.
