In another incident, a rickshaw driver was shot dead in Ayub Goth in the Sohrab Goth police precincts. DSP Irfan Bahadur said the victim Asad Ghazi, who hailed from Mohmand Agency, was in his rickshaw when an unidentified passenger shot him dead and escaped.
Foreign donation was not available for him to pay the bill. Dispute settled in accordance with time honored paki traditions. :D

Since he spent much time in India, he can act "Sikh", he is a good asset for ISI and can be used to foster trouble in India. His beard and long hair are already at acceptable levels.

One 1000 years of RoP violence, and India has learnt zilch.
Could he have been turned in SDRE prison?

The very fact that he is so hale and hearty and smiling from ear to ear would mean that even the ISI would be having a 1000 questions as to whether the returning TFTA is the real deal or a RAA agent and might even think of bumping him off if unable to decide.

I surely do not believe( or hope not to believe) that the SDRE agencies are so naive esp under the present PC+ Pillai combo...

Requiem for a lost country - FB Ali
But it is not this country that I mourn. It will survive, as will its hardy people. Like the lowly of the earth everywhere, survival is about the only skill that their forbears bequeathed to them. They will pick themselves up, bury their dead, and resume their threadbare lives ‒ till the next calamity strikes. For, with Nature up in arms, it will be the drought next year, or the year after, or another flood, or some pestilence. If, at some point, the country begins to totter, one set or other of the hollow men with the guns will take it over. No joy there, for all they think about is war, all they care about is “the enemy”. To them (even the well-intentioned ones) the country is just a base to be used to mount their campaigns.

The country I mourn is the Pakistan that was meant to be, that could have been.

But imagine this: India, a country that faces a debilitating conflict over Kashmir with Pakistan , goes to build tens of small and medium sized dams on all the rivers flowing down to Pakistan, and everything is supposed to work out smoothly?
They look at Pakistan causing debilitating conflict on India. What a joke.

Going through the Nasa images of Pakistan floods, I am simply left wondering if the flood story is for real? Somehow this whole drama of 'Biblical' and "Worst ever disaster" is not adding up. 20 Million displaced and 20% of pakistan being under water is pure bull.
Has 20% of Paki population living on the Indus river bed? Otherwise it does not add. Moreover going through the pakistan Population density per Square kilometer along with the route of Indus as available on Wikipedia, this is a huge farce that's being pulled on the unsuspecting western world.
In India too we had floods in Punjab, Haryana and now in Leh, Why the loss of property and displaced people is miniscule? Yes we have better infrastructure and robust system too but this is fishy. Yes the rains have been more than normal but what about the breaches the landlords have created in order to save their fiefdoms.
The floods in Pakistan are deliberate and created by the ruling elite for..
1. The money it will get the country in the name of relief
2. Garner sympathy for the 'Victim of terror' Country
3. Finding a reason to stop the collaboration on War on terror
4. Debt write off - This is the biggest bet

The rains have been 'Allah sent opportunity' for this corrupt elite. They will eave no stone unturned to milk it. God save India as there will be 'New Shiny toys' for the Paki generals now post this flood.

Chandrabhan,

This is bacause the ROW has been warning of a collapse of the TSP for ages. Now that, the flood of a minor nature is being taken as the push that results in the faliure of the TSP.

Some choice NUGGETS from the Urdu Press - TFT
Zaid Hamid’s wife leaves him

The great ‘hate speaker’ on TV in Pakistan, Zaid Hamid was quoted by daily Express as saying that he and his wife had begun to disagree as a result of which they had parted, but it had nothing to do with his relationship with the false prophet Yusuf Kazzab because his wife had left him only recently and Yusuf had been killed in jail a long time ago. He said Yusuf Kazzab had ruhani ilm (spiritual knowledge) like Ashfaq Ahmad, Prof Rafiq Akhtar, and Wasif Ali Wasif, but Yusuf had crossed the limit (apay se bahar). He said he had fought in Afghanistan as a jihadi to which air force MM Alam was witness.

ISI supports terrorists

Daily Jang reported that the Punjab government had revealed that the basic reason for terrorists not getting punished was the army’s refusal to let its officers testify and the ISI’s protection of the terrorists. In the cases of attack on the army bus and the killing of General Mushtaq the accused were kept in custody for a year after which no witnesses from the army were coming forward.

Why Abdul Qadir hates America

Famous columnist Abdul Qadir Hasan wrote in Express that one reason he hated America or got out of hand (bay-lagaam ho jata hun) could be that he has never been invited by the Americans to visit America. It is quite possible that since America never once offered to buy his loyalty, he is put off, he wrote. Everybody in the media was bought by the US.

Clerics happy over terrorism?

Writing in Jang Nazir Naji speculated that the ulema and clerics of Pakistan could actually be happy in secret that Data Darbar was attacked by the terrorists. According to him this attack might prostrate the government who could then request the clergy to take over Pakistan and run it according to their lights. It is quite possible that some religious leaders could be sending the message to the terrorists: carry on, the moment of victory (fatah mubin) is near.

Drop the Kashmir issue!

Daily Jang quoted prime minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider as saying that Pakistan should set aside the Kashmir dispute with its status quo and sort out other problems with India. He said he had advised the Pakistan government that it should extend to India the Most Favoured Nation under the WTO. In daily Nawa-e-Waqt Chief Editor Majid Nizami said that Kashmir had to be taken with force of arm (zor bazu) but the bazu (arm) of Pakistan had become weak. (Prime Minister AJK Raja Farooq Haider has since been replaced.)

Terrorists of Ahmadi massacre held

Reported in Jang the Lahore police had arrested a dozen terrorists from Lahore who had attacked the Qadianis in the city killing a hundred of them. Large quantity of weapons including explosives and anti-aircraft rockets were discovered. The mastermind of the attack on Ahmadis was also held. Daily Jang abstained from naming the Punjabi terrorists and their organisations but daily Pakistan (5 July 2010) reported that they belonged to the banned Harkat Jihad Islami and Fazal Mehsud Group. According to daily Waqt, Punjab was home to 217 banned terrorist organisations with 4,000 men working for them. (Commissioner Lahore declared the Qadianis were killed by India and America. He declared that Data Darbar too was attacked by India.)

Leave terror, catch ‘mujra’!

Reported in Jinnah the Sahiwal police, freshly trained against terrorism, successfully completed their commando mission of catching dancing girls :) doing what they triumphantly claimed as mujra. It was the birthday of a Q League politician who was kosher for attack under an N League government. The dancers were led by a dancing girl Saira Khan. The police acting like the Peshawar police, who caught a bunch of khusras after being trained to fight terrorism, gave evidence of limitless bravery. :rotfl: They also confiscated all the cars and motorbikes parked outside the cinema. The terrorists who are true Muslims watched the derring-do against immorality with great appreciation.

Justice Khwaja Sharif and Black Water

Quoted in daily Waqt Chief Justice of the Lahore Court while pursuing a suo motu case in relation to the bombing of Data Darbar in Lahore advised the police to pursue inquiry against Blackwater, the American company which was being named in reports. {He is the pro-jihadi Chief Justice} Nawa-e-Waqt (6 July 2010) quoted chief of Jamaat Islami Syed Munawwar Hasan that the Data Darbar bombing was carried out by Blackwater. It also quoted Hafiz Said of Jamaatud Dawa that Blackwater had done the deed, after reporting that while banning 67 renamed terrorist organisations, the Punjab government had made an exception for Jamaatud Dawa.

Justice Khwaja Sharif speaks again

Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Khwaja Sharif told a gathering at the Judicial Complex at Sambrial that the judges will dispense justice without caring for their lives. He said Pakistan’s atom bomb was opposed by the yuhud and nasara (Jews and Christians). He said conspiracies being hatched against Pakistan will have to be countered.

‘Hatha-Pai’ in IRSA over water

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt delegates at the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) went into a clinch (hatha-pai) after acting chairman Shafqat Masud ordered the Chashma Canal open for irrigation in Punjab. Sindh and Punjab are divided over the issue. The federal representative started exchange of blows with acting chairman after the decision.

Saadia Dehelvi recounts the fortuitous happenings that prevented her migration to Pakistan in TFT
Each year as the tricolour unfolds on the ramparts of the Red Fort, I offer prayers for my grandparents’ souls thanking them for choosing to continue making Delhi their home. This is the city where my ancestors lived for centuries, their remains having mingled with its dust. I escaped the pain of migration and feel deeply rooted in Delhi, loving its people, culture, history and monuments. It is the threshold of the Sufis, of my beloved Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusrau who gave the capital its vibrant pluralistic ethos.

It could have all been different, had not destiny intervened. Amidst the communal strife of 1947, my mother’s mother left her husband and took all seven children to Pakistan. Nana , my maternal grandfather refused to migrate from the land of his ancestors saying, “Is the Allah in Pakistan different from the Allah in India? If God will protect us there, He will protect us here.”

Nana refused to leave his home and business, but Naani Amma wasn’t taking chances; not even with Allah. :) In the October of 1947 she boarded a Dakota plane to Karachi.

In Karachi, Naani Amma rented a portion of the palatial house belonging to Sadaqat Ali Khan, the brother of Liaqat Ali Khan, the first prime minister of Pakistan. Along with her sisters, Ammi was enrolled at a local school. Meanwhile, the elder brothers debated on whether India or Pakistan should be their country of residence. The family missed the gali kuchas of Dilli, its language, cuisine, and other aspects of the capital city’s culture and traditions. They finally decided to go back home and join Nana in Delhi.

The midnight of 18th July 1948 had been announced as the cut off time for nationalities to be decided. There were a huge number of Indians who wanted to come back from Karachi and not be declared Pakistanis. Air facilities to Delhi were packed beyond capacity so the family had no choice but to fly to Bombay, touching Indian soil on the last evening of the deadline.

Interestingly, at the time of partition Abba , my father’s father too had refused to budge from Delhi. He said, “I would rather be killed in Delhi than leave my ancestral city.” Similar to Naana ’s story, Abba’s family left him to explore the possibilities of Pakistan. However, they did not stay for long. After a quick round of Pakistani cities, my father then a student at St. Stephen’s College decided the country was completely alien to them. My father and his brothers returned to Delhi, never regretting the decision. The two families later came together through the marriage of my parents, with me inheriting the legacy of our collective passion for Delhi.
Which is why when Pakistan told its people in the early years (and continues to do so occassionally) that India was entertaining hopes of re-establishing an ‘Akhand Bharat’ encompassing Pakistan within its fold it was mischievous. Though such a concept of ‘Akhand Bharat’ was spoken of by a few sporadically, it never gained currency in India. Of course many Indian leaders during the nascent and intoxicating days of independence, felt that Pakistan may not be able to survive as an entity for too long. Moreover, there was no clear idea, at the time of Partition, of the future relationship between these two newly created countries. People had relatives and assets across the borders, including Mohammed Ali Jinnah. The noted Pakistani columnist and commentator, Khaled Ahmed, says that “Jinnah never thought that India and Pakistan would be hostile neighbours. The fact that three institutions in India - including the Aligarh Muslim University - were named beneficiaries in Jinnah's will clearly goes against the state-sponsored version of his life.”

Pakistani litteretaeurs like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Saadat Hasan Manto or Mohammad Saeed have captured the confusion of division and the ambiguity thereon. One of the prominent Muslim League politicians of that time, Ghulam Hussain was not only completely against Pakistan but also said that Jinnah himself was not completely convinced about that. Individual families also were confused to such an extent that some in the family migrated to Pakistan while others remained in India, just as Saadia Dehelvi has described. For example, later day Indian President Dr. Zakir Hussain decided to stay in India while his brother moved over to Pakistan and ended up as a federal minister later on. Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary in the early 60s was M.Ikramullah who was the brother of the then Chief Justice (later Vice President) of India, Justice M.Hidayatullah. Such examples, not only among elite sections of the Muslim society but also among ordinary folks, are plenty. It is because of this division of families that we have today such a great demand for visas for travelling to each other’s country. Opinions and assessments expressed, therefore, during this time of great confusion could not be taken as deterministic foreign policies of a nation. No doubt, some leaders, including Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, thought that the partition was only temporary and Pakistan would be re-united with India on its own volition. Such expressions were not meant to be harbingers of armed aggression, though Pakistan decided to misinterpret deliberately.

From Najam Sethi's editorial in TFT
he only institution to come out smelling of roses is the Pakistan army {and of course, its extension, the Jama'at ud Dawah}, whose chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, is all over the place in immaculate khaki, supervising high-profile relief efforts. Some people are therefore hankering for a return to military rule, security and stability over “unaffordable niceties” like elections, democracy and representation.

Chandrabhan, ^^ I agree. It can be summed up by a modified sentence of Madam Albright, "Pakistan was an American headache" and turned now successfully by Amirkhan as "truely an International headache". For 60 years, corrupt feudal fifedom pakis built things as they liked and lived on any land they wished which they got free from fleeing Hindus and Sikhs of India before 1947. Now bad karma has caught upon them. To those who assume that paki's are innocent should go back 60 years and check them who they were, these were the same people who grabbed the land and homes of massive number of hindu sindhi's and sikhs who fled to Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab. Paki UN is turned truely green coloured by paki's who have PhD in International Begging. They have every trick in their thesis you name it, a) Creating a threat of civil war to push people out in west in name of refugee's b) Plundeing the aid in name of these civil war threat c) Aid money in name of Taliban d) Getting free oil in name of Madrasa e) Shiney toys in name of defense and strategic interest both from china and amirkhans f) Aid in name of Taliban's in Karachi g) Aid in name of building schools, colleges, infra yada yada h) Loans from IMF, WB on cooked up numbers g) Aid for free market access to reduce poverty. i) Aid for any crisis. Pakis have got is all right and perfected. Amirkhan is leading all this with advice from its "stupid" thinktanks who are nothing but the bunch of totally failed professionals writing thesis on a whambam political topic and heading so called "Strategic think tanks" all bull-crap. They seem to master thoughts of a totally alien culture and way of thinking. Only Amirkhans in the world can afford it and have it for GUBO advice. Now that money tap has been controlled by white house, they has indulged themselves into new field of activity, how to turn a mini crisis or a mini disaster (or create a disaster out of thin air) into a International disaster or International humanitarian crisis followed by Aid flow and then to be followed by Aid Conferences and Air pledges. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Having said these, I like Paki foreign services, it is such an efficient department that it never ever allows the world to take name "Pakistan" out of their mind so much so that stupid Amirkhans are led into believing that poverty will turn pakistan into a jihadi nation. However, most of studies of Taliban, 9/11, 7/7, bali bombers have shown time and again that poverty and jihad are totally unconnected things. For me, these terrorists are simply psychological rats who are born to simply blow things up without any reason and are filled with hate for whole world and to justify this they use religion. The difference is that in west and developed nations they are locked up in prision and in rest of the world they are always out in open creating nuisance.

Floods in Pakistan the aftermath of Kargil war
Pakistan Army's agile move at Kargil sparked Indian minds and made them take appropriate steps to safeguard their captured territory from any future assaults. Now strategically, any new assault like Kargil is impossible but the outcome of cowardly decision of the Lion of Punjab Mr. Nawaz Sharif gave India every chance to take revenge from Pakistan by blocking all the key rivers entering our Country. The decision of Building numerous dams on our waters was purposely taken by India to make our country desert or whenever required push the heavy flow of water to create havoc on our lands.
I bet, Indians would be smiling and laughing on our helplessness and must be contended on their achievement that they can win any war against us without firing a single bullet.

From http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report_in ... ak_1427089
"At this time of crisis, the governments of the two countries must cooperate with each other in bringing help to the afflicted. They must rise above the doubts and suspicions that have kept us apart for so long," the Balusa Group, which works for peace between India and Pakistan, said in a statement.

The statement issued by former Indian foreign secretary Salman Haider and Pakistan's former national security advisor Mahmud Ali Durrani, maintained that this emergency could "open a new window of opportunity for a better relationship" between the two countries.

Haider is the India convenor of Balusa Group while Durrani is the Pakistan convenor.

"This is the time for Pakistan's immediate neighbours to rise to the challenge, especially India, which is familiar with the destruction that an errant monsoon can cause. We, therefore, applaud the Indian offer of $5 million to the UN-led relief efforts, which has been graciously accepted by Pakistan," the Balusa group said.

The group also expressed the hope that this will be regarded as a beginning and would be followed by "substantial enhancement of this amount" and supply of medicines and other relief material from across the border.

In the old days US aid used to come with a big sign showing a handshake and the words
From the People of the United States of America to the People of XXXXXX

Indian aid should go in with an appropriate middle finger sign.
From the People of India to you *&^%King Pakis - And no, we haven't forgotten Mumbai, AND No! We haven't YET opened the dam gates ..

OTOH, the Pakistani State has been the perpetrator of several crises to Indian security and it continues to support terror against India and refuses to cooperate with GoI in prosecuting the 26/11 terrorists and those who preach jihad against India. It continues to harbour within its territory most wanted Indian terrorists whose extradition India has been asking for several years now. It continues to print and circulate fake Indian currency.

Why should India alone cooperate with Pakistan when it is having a crisis when all that Pakistan does is to keep on scheming and executing terrorist attack after terrorist attack while feigning ignorance about the non-state actors.

I think India should assure Pakistan of all help it needs. They just need to tell us what is needed at this juncture. Man and materials would be kept ready in their hour of need. Afterall we are neighbors. May be they can send us Dossa ier to us of their requirements.

Is Indian media blacking out Pakistani flood crisis ?
By Mayank Austen Soofi in TFT
(Mayank Austen Soofi is a Delhi based writer who works for Hindustan Times)
On August 16th, I received an e-mail from Navaid Husain, an architect in Karachi. “The floods have knocked Pakistan to the absolute bottom. 20 million displaced people.” I immediately called Saeeda Diep, in Lahore. Diep was shocked that the biggest tragedy of her country was not causing even a whimper in India. “It’s worse than the Indian Ocean tsunami and Haiti quake but for two days I read the Indian newspapers and found absolutely nothing on Pakistan’s flood crisis. Indian news channels were busy bashing Pakistan on terrorism.”

Is it true that Indian media is silent on Pakistan’s worst natural disaster?

“Understandably, there is a considerable coverage of the flash floods in Leh but so little space has been given to a far far greater natural disaster across the western border,” says Andrew Buncombe, the Independent’s Delhi-based Asia correspondent who returned from flooded central Punjab last week. “However there is a blind spot within the Indian media towards the current, obvious suffering of the Pakistanis. Instead, the stories have largely focussed on issues such as the weakening of Pakistan’s civilian government, the increased power of the military and procedural difficulties in processing India’s donation of $5 million – which is not a massive amount given the scale of the floods.”

Indian journalists may not agree. “In Hindustan Times, we are carrying 7-8 column space daily on the floods,” says Samar Halarnkar, the Delhi-based newspaper’s editor. “You can’t do more because your readership doesn’t care about calamities such as floods, unless it’s happening in their own backyard. This is a modern media issue. It’s not about Pakistan. How many people know that Bihar is suffering a severe drought currently?”

According to the journalist Tavleen Singh, “The truth is that there is very little sympathy for Pakistan in India after 26/11. Also you may not be aware that after the Kashmir earthquake Indian construction companies working on rebuilding houses on our side offered their help to the Pakistani government and it was rejected. As far as I know the Indian government’s offers of aid this time have also been turned down.”

A news-magazine that reflects the aspirations of the country middle class, the 152 page India Today, is not completely insensitive to natural calamities. There is a full-page picture with an appeal for charity for the victims of the flash floods of Leh, the Buddhist town in Kashmir. That the next-door nation has millions homeless, its agriculture destroyed, its live stock dead, is not considered newsworthy for its readership.

“In Amritsar, I watched the live telecast of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s 40-minute-long speech in Delhi Delhi’s Red Fort,” says Diep. “If only he had mentioned about our tragedy… just one line on how sad he is… it would have made us Pakistanis think that yes, Indians care.{Frankly madam, why should we Indians care when all that you do is to plot immediately for the next destruction of India after receiving the aid from us ?}

“In Amritsar, I watched the live telecast of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s 40-minute-long speech in Delhi Delhi’s Red Fort,” says Diep. “If only he had mentioned about our tragedy… just one line on how sad he is… it would have made us Pakistanis think that yes, Indians care.{Frankly madam, why should we Indians care when all that you do is to plot immediately for the next destruction of India after receiving the aid from us ?}
the reason why indian media is not covering it is because Pakistan High commission is NOT processing Jurno Visas. This has been constant source of frustration. I think thats why no good coverage s coming. I don't have a link to this but Last week this was discussed in details in one of Barkha Dutt's program at 10 PM.

They still seek validation from the ramparts of Red Fort?

Gilani defends accepting Indian aid
"I would like to ask the critics of India's aid on what ground we should refuse it. It will be a narrow approach if we refuse aid from India," Gilani said while talking to reporters.

The move has been criticised by some politicians, who linked the matter to the ongoing protests in Jammu and Kashmir.

Gilani said, "Would it not be a contrast if we refused the aid? On the one hand, we are stressing on the resumption of dialogue with India and on the other, we refuse its aid. We should come out of this approach and give a strong image to Pakistan."

I wonder if a member of Sonia's or MMS's family had been stabbed to death on-board Indian Airlines Flight 814 like Rupin Katyal was, would we still see such 'goodwill gestures'?

Until and unless members of the ruling elite are killed in the countess Pakistani attacks India has and will face then nothing will change and the appeasement of Jihadis will continue.

Do the SDRE agencies have a choice, under the WKK in charge at present, who seems determined to beat previous WKKs in charge, IK Gujral and Morarji Desai? Better inactive leadership (Gowda) than such activity!

Any particular reason some posters are using "RoP" instead of saying Muslim or Islam? Seems weasel-ish.

What is he smoking Dude? I read the article in the Newspaper and was scratching my head since then. I think syndicated writers somehow feel they have a license to be bizarre...
Aiyar represents many of the typical urban elite in India, well off, well connected, and full of center left dogma when it comes to nationalism, and absolutely clueless about the reality when it comes to Pak. Some of these fat cats were outraged by 26/11 purely because their watering holes got struck, as compared to the umpteen attacks on places frequented by the "others". That was just worth a "tut tut" - it happened in Gujarat (riots!), Assam (disturbed area!), diwali (oh Delhi!), trains (overcrowded, could be somebody else!)...

Their outrage lasted for all of a few days, and they are back to singing paeans to WKK-giri, and how dastardly/communal/perverse anyone who doesnt think like them is. (Note claim that some Indians may take perverse pleasure in what is going on in Pak) - but then again he is not like those some Indians, he is more cultured, humane and civilized.

The problem is that these jerks have a lot of mindspace and power via the media, their wealth and connections, and tend to use it to the hilt to perpetuate the status quo. The status quo being we put up with Pak, no matter what it does.

OT:The current royal family of India did such gestures in the past. They pardoned off Nalini (one of Rajiv's killer). However they did not pardon Satwant Singh (killer of Indira). Priyanka Gandhi visited Nalini in the TN prison as well with jesuit spirit of pardoning.

Thanks Arun. There are plenty of images of flood victims reaching up for something that is being handed out or being thrown from a lorry or helicopter. In most cases, even if a few people are not reaching out - their gaze is fixed on the objects being thrown or the people handing out the stuff. Also, if stuff is being handed to you - your eyes have to remain open - especially if it is falling from above - you can get hurt.

Neither is true for the picture above.

About smirking - there is only a little difference between a smirk and a grimace - but if you look at photos of grimacing refugees - of which there are many - they are different from those in this pic.

Finally - it should be easy to test if I am biased. I have downloaded all the suspicious photos. It should easy for me to take the faces alone, out of context and put them up for comments on what the expression seems to be. I will definitely do hat at some time in the future when these faces are forgotten.

all posed photos.

some of the reuters/afp/cnn types must be going around constructing such photos probably. I have seen such posed shots in books by famous photograpers also. I saw a french woman with a big tripod kit rent a sadhu to pose for her on pondicherry seaface one morning!

I cannot see the images but I can guess what image you are referring to. The comments seem to be identical except for one correction. What am I missing?
