Interesting so the author of the article is saying that common man in Sialkot is == to Taliban. The lynching was carried by common abdul from the street. This only confirms that common man in Pakistan has already crossed the line and nothing can be done.A_Gupta wrote:http://pakteahouse.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... the-heart/
The Sialkot lynching is a mirror image of another lynching which we have conveniently forgotten. This takes us to 1994 when the Taliban, made and molded in and by Pakistan, invaded the UN-protected enclave in Kabul where they lynched Dr Najibullah and his brother. After lynching them publicly, just like their brethren have done in Sialkot, the Taliban hung the corpses of the two brothers and mutilated them; they even chopped off their private parts. At that time hundreds of people cheered on the Taliban as they disrespected the two corpses just like the hundreds of people did in Sialkot; the only difference being that there were no mobiles phones available at that time. Again, it is our “Pakistani” Taliban who Pakistan Army thinks are “good Taliban” who last year dug up a pir from his grave and hanged, and not just hung, him. You can go a few more years earlier in 1984 when General Zia sent his notorious lashkar led and supervised by no other than Brigadier Musharraf aka General Musharraf, the enlightened, the moderate. This proto-Talibanic lashkar not just burnt alive hundreds of the Shias of Gilgit, it burnt alive the animals too owned by the Shias. Of course, this can be justified because those animals were not human, Muslim, or Pakistani.

This is the operation in which Musharraf is supposed to have worked closely with Osama bin Laden. Are there more sources to corroborate this? We need enough credible sources for this to be added to the Military Career section of the wikipedia article on gola.

Pakistan's floods have left a country that's too difficult to rule - by Con Coughlin in Telegraph
In a country where most of the agricultural wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few feudal landlords, the misery being experienced by millions of dispossessed and impoverished citizens is inevitably going to stoke the fires of dissent. Atlaf Hussain, the exiled leader of the Muttahuda Quami Movement, articulated the suspicions of many Pakistanis when he accused some landlords of deliberately diverting the waters to neighbouring villages in order to protect their own crops and livestock. He is now demanding a French Revolution-style redistribution of land among the masses, and has issued a call to "patriotic generals" to fulfil their duty by establishing martial law.
However, what is different about this crisis is that, for once, the generals don't appear at all interested in taking responsibility for a country that is teetering on the verge of collapse.

Dying cattle scream for relief in flooded Pakistan
Pulling a goat by an ear while cuddling her toddler by the other hand, Janat Bibi made her way through knee-deep muddy water in the flooded rural area of Sukkur in southern Pakistan's Sindh province, screaming loud for veterinary care of her cattle as half a dozen frail water buffalos and cows limped behind her.
"Yes, there are doctors for humans but what about my ailing cattle," Bibi, 29, a mother of four children, fumed out concerns about her family's lifeline, the cattle, as livestock is not only food for Pakistanis but are money making machines. Over eight million small and landless farmers raise cattle as their only source of income in Pakistan.

Purification of TSP from less pure Ahmadiyyas continues
When Habib Peer closed his Germantown newsstand last year and moved back to Pakistan, his passport made no note of his religion.
Since 1990 he had been a resident and citizen of the United States, where being an Ahmadiyya Muslim is no offense. But in his homeland, Peer's faith made him a target, his family said.
On Thursday, as he drove with a young nephew through the southern city of Sanghar, two motorbikes approached his car. One of the masked drivers fired a handgun twice through the open window, instantly killing the 60-year-old Peer.

Anti-India mindset hurting Pak relief

From when did CR become a WKK or is it just point scoring over Pakis. The United Nations has appealed urgently for helicopters to reach tens of thousands of Pakistanis marooned by the calamitous floods while scores of choppers idle in Indian hangars in the face of Islamabad's reluctance to accept aid from New Delhi.
Amid reports that nearly 800,000 people stranded by the floods can now be reached only by air, the UN put out an SOS for choppers for a disaster that has markedly rendered Pakistan's fetish for F-16 fighter jets irrelevant. "We need at least 40 additional heavy-lift helicopters, working at full capacity, to reach the huge numbers of increasingly desperate people with life-saving relief," Marcus Prior of the World Food Program said in a statement.
India meantime is sitting on some 300 utility choppers spread across its air force, navy, coast guard and army without moving a muscle because of Pakistan's obvious reluctance to accept help from New Delhi. Even that acceptance came after pressure from the US and the international community that hinted that Pakistan could not expect the world to come to its assistance while it selectively spurned help from close quarters.

The United States will divert $50 million from a development package for Pakistan towards relief funds, the top U.S. aid official said on Wednesday after touring a flood victims camp run by a charity with suspected links to a militant group on the U.S. terrorist list.Officials in Pakistan and its ally Washington are worried that militants could exploit the disorder caused by the floods, and the government's slow response, to gain recruits. The United States, eager to see stability in ally Pakistan, a frontline state in its war against militancy, has so far been the most generous donor. It has provided 25 percent of aid commitments and contributions, the U.N. said.
Let me be clear: This disaster represents a major logistics challenge. We are committed to supporting this significant relief effort as much as possible," U.S. Agency for International Development head Rajiv Shah told reporters. After touring a camp for flood victims set up in a school, Shah told a news conference that $50 million would be diverted from a five-year, $7.5 billion development package for Pakistan to help the flood relief effort.

Like a cup of tea brewing good cheer, a mango offers goodwill and the truth that life, despite all that happened in the past, starts again afresh every moment, with this moment, now.![]()

Shiv, if you know Ahmed Rashid's personal history you'd hardly be surprised by its tone. This is after all a man from a privileged Pakjabi background who took up arms against the Pakistani Army - that puts him in a rather special category.shiv wrote:What an amazing article. Why has he written it?Prem wrote:The Anarchic Republic of Pakistan
http://nationalinterest.org/article/ana ... istan-3917
The "London Group" was formed in the late 1960s and early 1970s - leftist student intellectuals studying in Britain who wanted a revolutionary movement in Pakistan to cut the army down to size and re-orient development towards social justice. They chose to begin by joining the Baloch resistance. Ahmed Rashid, Tariq Ali, Najam Sethi, etc were all part of this group. They took on aliases, learned Balochi, and fought a guerilla campaign based on their understanding of Che, Fanon, Debray, etc, ambushing Pakistani Army patrols and raiding outposts. Rashid was not the most accomplished of the group when it came to his soldiering skills, but no one accused him of chickening out.
When Zia ul-Haq chose to try to end Bhutto's war with the Baloch war by declaring a ceasefire and issuing an amnesty, some of the Baloch and the London Group chose to go in to exile in to Daud's Afghanistan - Ahmed Rashid was amongst them, and this was the source of his access and his knowledge of Afghanistan's political scene.
Rashid is no longer much of a Marxist, but he's secular enough to hate and fear the Taliban, and he continues to loathe the Pakistan Army and its deformation of Pakistani society. He is one of the few Pakistanis who rejoiced to see the Taliban thrown out of power in Afghanistan in 2001, but for the last few years (see "Descent in to Chaos") he's been dreading the possibility that the PA with dishonesty and greed is going to pave the way for a Taliban takeover of Pakistan. He has been consistent in his message that the US ought not to strengthen the PA when attempting to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda. It is a pity that more Americans did not listen more carefully to him.
Tariq Ali, who returned to London incidentally can't stand Ahmed Rashid. Ali has remained a Chomskyish Marxist and sees his former comrade Rashid as a cheerleader for imperialist intervention. Rashid on the other hand actually lives in Lahore - I think he'd welcome the devil if it meant keeping the Taliban out.

'No Doubt' India and U.S. are Behind Pakistan Flood Disaster
Could it be that India - with American backing and Afghan connivance - has engineered the worst flooding in Pakistan's history? And to what end? Call it a conspiracy theory or call it an analysis, but columnist Ahmed Quraishi of Pakistan's Pak Tribune outlines how India, by opening up dams it controls up-river from Pakistan, is the cause of flooding that has affected up to 20 million Pakistanis and covered almost a fifth of the country.
By Ahmed Quraishi
August 17, 2010
Pakistan - Pak Tribune - Original Article (English)
Map of dams included in the Indus Waters Treaty, a water-sharing agreement between India and Pakistan, brokered by the World Bank. Signed in 1960, the treaty was a result of Pakistani fear that since the source rivers of the Indus basin were in India, it could potentially create droughts and famines in Pakistan, especially at times of war.
AL-JAZEERA NEWS VIDEO: Was the partition of India and Pakistan 'worth it'?, August 21, 00:22:22
There is a very sinister aspect to the flooding in Pakistan that no one in the media is discussing. While there were rains and flooding in some rivers of the country, the size, scale and gush of water suddenly pumped into these rivers defies logic. This is especially true considering that rains have slowed down since the breakout of the floods on July 29.

MINGORA, Pakistan –When the floods hit the Swat Valley four weeks ago, nearly every bridge was wiped out and miles of mountainside roads crumbled into the raging water.Hundreds of thousands of people have now been cut off from the rest of the country, but they are still crossing the rivers, slowly and sometimes dangerously.Flood victims use a cable car on a river as they transport food to their camps in Matta, a region of Swat Valley in northern Pakistan on Aug. 11.In the town of Mingora, we found a booming raft business. The boats are crudely strung together with planks of wood and inflatable tubes. They don’t look like they could pass a safety test in a swimming pool, let alone crossing the fast-moving Swat River. But about 1,000 people a day still wait in line, pay 20 rupees (about 40 cents) and stack everything they can on board until the planks buckle and the rafts sink low in the water.
The Pakistani military is overseeing the crossing. They picked the location because they said it was the shortest and calmest crossing. But looking out across the river “short and calm” are not the first adjectives to come to mind.
