This does not antagonize Russia in any way. India has found a way to align with USA and Russia again!

This time it is more expensive for us - boots in AFG - but stakes are higher for India - so cost is higher.

There is broad Indian political consensus around relations with USA regardless of the party in power - starting overtly with IUCNA in 2005. Why?

Is India that naive to not see that all of this is for CRE of Indian nuclear capabilities or are we missing something?

I am beginning to believe that this will end with Indian boots in AFG. This is my theory. It is rather simplistic. But I believe many things at such high level are very simple. USA needs to get out of AFG - it has enormous amount of ARMS stockpiled in there. They cannot move it out, nor destroy it. ...

IMO NASAMS II is the order to fend off Patriot vs S400. We can afford have one more system in addition to Akash - we need that many units of Akash style system. Great analysis Rudradev! I think we will see more technology sharing deals from the west to enable India stand on its own against the new China-Pak-Russia axis. Having a 2-engine fighter line like F-18/Rafale is a real possibility in this scenario as MKIs may not be upgradeable to full potential!!

GE aviation is in serious financial trouble - any deal here will be similar to what SU-30MKI was to Sukhoi. GE aviation is too strategic for USA to give up. And GE aviation has to stay independent - cannot be acquired by Boeing or LM as that will essentially end EU and USA co-opetition
