Pakis are really dumb. By suspending the Simla Agreement, they have made the Line of Control (LOC) null & void.

This throws open the door for India retaking PoK (at a time and place of its choosing) legally and militarily. Now that it has been suspended, Pakistan cannot "un" suspend the agreement...without India "re" acknowledging the terms of the agreement. These morons don't think before executing such gems of wisdom! Allah has ordained it, so it must be good onlee.

earlier, PoK retaking had the additional character of the CPEC road passing through the area (so cheen can get involved)
with the CPEC in shambles.. this maybe a blessing for Cheen to use as pretext to drop CPEC. they anyways got the monies they wanted to get.

in the current geopolitical window, most countries are OK if we bomb Pakistan back to the stone age. China will make some noise but they will not risk any action. The Dumbo Paki Generals have miscalculated really bad this time.

Let's also assume that its a limited war. The world community get both sides to restrict military action to the area across the LOC (our actions are confined to POK) and avoid escalation by not using air power. Rules of engagement similar to Kargil, except that the army can cross the LOC.
Artillery and Air power can hit targets across the LOC while broadly staying on our side.

What are our options in this situation ?
Specifically:
1. What forces does each side have along the LOC. What additional forces can each deploy, without weakening their posture elsewhere.
2. Where can territory be captured.
3. What kind of strategy should we be looking at ?
4. What do we need to urgently to fix before a limited war starts ?

In order to inflict damage we need to be able to absorb damage too. Question is how much are we willing and able to absorb in lives (military and civilian), resources, equipment, and a potential long term economic downturn. What we can or should do depends on the answer to this very important question.

But one thing is certain, if there is to be a military response, there can be no half measures this time. And the targets have to be be very visibly the paki army personnel and facilities. Not launchpads and training camps for jihadi cannon-fodder. The attack has to be disproportionate and visible. And preparations need to be made to defend against the inevitable counter-attack and respond to it and so on. If that requires time, take the time. Either do it right or don't do it at all. Show them we don't give a shit about escalation. Surgical strikes or Balakot part 2 will not be enough this time. If that's all we have the stomach for, then better to concentrate on non-military responses like IWT suspension etc.

I am not being jingoistic now but exploring the realities of poor investment over the years...

w.r.t to a balakot++ like strike I think our hands are tied because we haven't invested in quality deterrent, and our babu's / generals have wrapped all the deals in red tapes resulting in almost no acquisition for decades.

If we had > 100 Rafale with meteors, or 24 submarines to enforce a naval blockade, or few dozen 5th generation stealth fighters then we could have sent a decapitating action across line of control, not just destroy a hostel but destroy all top LeT & JeM leadership. I hope RM wakes up and does some emergency procurement now. Ditch the RFPs, go direct via G2G and beef up our assets to give our military significant edge, double the scorpene order, double ATAGS, get few dozen F35s, order hundreds more Prahaar and Brahmos.

Y I Patel ji, very informative post. Pakistan suspending Shimla agreement looks like a desperation to lure India into a conflict. You know better, but another possibility is India need atleast several days to prepare for a war. To collect intelligence, planning, practice and to move military assets to forward areas.

The above news on IAF exercise mentioned only Meteor, and air to surface missiles Rampage and Rocks. As per a prominent defence handle Rampage and Rocks is the main stand-off weapons for IAF and Brahmos only for very high value targets since a year ago.

Udhampur encounter updates:

An Indian Army special forces para commando was killed in action, and two others sustained injuries during a fierce encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday, two days after the Pahalgam terror attack, sources said.
The gunfight broke out during a search operation launched by the security forces in the area, following inputs about the presence of terrorists.

According to sources, the soldier who laid down his life was a para commando from the elite special forces unit of the Indian Army. The two injured personnel also belong to the same battalion. The martyred soldier was Hav Jhantu Ali Shaikh of 6 PARA SF, the Indian Army said.

“His indomitable courage and the valour of his team will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in this moment of grief,” the Army said.
