Crude supply is adequate and refineries are operating at full capacity. Petrol pumps are functioning normally with no dry outs reported. PNG and CNG supplies continue at 100 percent. Commercial LPG users are being encouraged to shift to PNG through CGD companies with incentives and quick connections where networks exist.

To curb hoarding and black marketing, states have activated control rooms and intensified raids while Oil Marketing Companies are conducting inspections. The Union government has also requested states to allocate an additional 10 percent commercial LPG to entities supporting PNG expansion and advised consumers with both PNG and LPG connections to surrender LPG while urging citizens to rely on official information, use home delivery and avoid panic booking

I think this is just a not-so-worthy attempt to get into politics. Do not think this lady has any experience in politics, and is just trying to milk the situation, and sympathies she may get following the tragic incident. IIRC, even the mother of the Nirbhaya girl had some political ambitions, which was quickly put down.

Looks like in Bangalore where many of the eateries either closed down the shop or reduced the items on the menu for a few days, the rural regions around the city had no much problems at all. Which kind of gives me a feeling that hoarding was attempted, and city hoteliers also thought they could put pressure on people and try to increase the food costs. But that seems to have got thwarted in no time.

Not everyone is greedy to milk the situation. Concern seems genuine. If the Party don't have strong candidate in that constituency, there is nothing wrong in giving ticket. Rather than winning or failing, it set's the agenda of the party for the whole nation to see.
There were issues and limits to cylinder supply for hotels. They are cutting items to ensure not much food and LPG go waste or there is some control over the usage of LPG. Till day before yesterday the LPG for hotels are not yet fully over. Since reports are coming of restoration of LPG supply for hotels as well, this concern of hotel owners will be over within few more days.

Honestly, as someone who has traveled a lot, India is the best country I have ever traveled to. It’s incredible. I will have been here for 9 days when I leave, and there is still so much to see and do. My experience has been amazing and India is portrayed negatively in the media as a place Amercians should avoid, but I realize a lot of that is completely made up.

The people, food, culture and hospitality culture are just incredible. I have felt safe and comfortable the entire time I have been here and India will truly be the next big super power. This country has incredible potential and you have to see it yourself to understand because the media only makes it out to be 3rd world.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Indian people are the nicest people I have ever met. I am very grateful for my time in India. I have enjoyed it so much and I hope I can come back every year.

Next time I want to visit South India. I have tried to do as much as possible these last 9 days but there is still so much to see and do.

All good things come to an end. I’ll be back (hopefully soon).

I love India. My misconceptions have been corrected. I have nothing but nice things to say.

This is an alternate to LPG. Ethanol is converted to DiMethileEther (DME) and under pressure it is liquified, storable in LPG cylinders and the flame is similar. NCL has a catalyst that converts 100% from Ethanol to DME.

As Sushant said, the real problem will happen in the long run. Probably a month or two from the time of Strait of Hormuz closure. Each day the number of tankers coming is lesser than the numbers required. Those 1 percent 2 percent 3 percent reductions will add up and consume the internal storage. To resolve this, govt must be pushing the oil and LPG to the consumer as much as possible right away.
All petrol bunks to be filled to the brink with multiple tankers on standby. LPG cylinder number be increased for consumers from 2 to 3 and from 1 to 2. Let people store it in their vehicles and LPG at home giving a space of 2 weeks for petroleum to LPG for a month.
Then ask people to maintain full tank fuel all the time.
Meanwhile get as much as crude and keep running refineries at full capacity. This gives us around 2 more weeks of fuel with the people when the petrol bunks go dry.
First step should be to reduce the days of booking back to 25 even do it alternate days and push cylinders to hotels and restaurants. Let them store it.
Then tell the people that they have option for a third cylinder and deliver it.
The delivery mechanism and booking mechanism need updated to cater to the rush.
Same with fuel. Once tankers are stationed at every Bunk and tankers moved through rail to each state, announce people not to panic, but start filling full tank whenever they go to fill the fuel and maintain full tank. The tankers are parked for them to see and assured to avoid panic. This will help govt to bring in as much as crude back to refineries and fill storage tanks again. Mix it with the Covid time $25 strategic reserve if you want ot keep the price lower. Just for calculation purposes and peanut counters to feel satisfied.
The Communication from Modi govt should be very clear too. They must state the obvious that the crisis at the moment did not exist as we have enough for next 2 months, but it will hit us from so and so day. So we all have one month time to start filling our vehicles full tank and maintain it. This should be a request from the government to the people to fill their vehicles full tank without any panic and in a very disciplined manner for the next one month.

Ji I said Energy Imports not Feedstock and yes it will happen in our lifetime. Just like how virtually all trains are electric, everything else on the road will be electric. All domestic and industrial power requirement will also go electric not just because of war but more importantly, because of the cost gradient. Solar is and will remain the cheapest long term source of energy and all our competitors will be going Solar. India will have no choice but to electrify via Solar.

India went from 45% electrified rail network in 2014 to almost 100% in 12 years. Nothing said by me in unachievable. Nothing.

It is not possible to generate base loads using solar or wind alone. We will always need to burn coal or gas. One should always burn gas if its a choice between that and coal given the dire pollution situation we have. Nuclear will not scale up to 100 GW despite what GoI thinks - the politics are just messy.

Ramping up supply for peak times is not possible without using coal or gas. Note that with shift to electric, usage patterns will change as well, resulting in peaks at nights when people charge their vehicles.

Gird scale battery storage is an option but that drives up cost and not sure if possible in a country like India

The more emergency situation exist, the more the chance for implementation and success of Indian solutions to world problems. There is great opportunity to export these mixed LPG as well.

DME can replace LPG, says CSIR-NCL amid West Asia supply concerns
Amid supply concerns linked to the West Asia crisis, scientists at CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) have identified dimethyl ether (DME) as a promising indigenous alternative to LPG for domestic use.

Researchers said DME is a clean fuel with properties similar to LPG and can be blended into existing LPG systems without major infrastructure changes.

CSIR-NCL Director Dr Ashish Lele said the institute has developed a patented technology to produce DME from methanol using an indigenous catalyst, enabling efficient and scalable production.

Scientists added that up to 8% DME blending requires no modifications to cylinders, regulators, or burners, while higher blending levels are also feasible.

With plans to scale up production through a demonstration plant, DME could emerge as a cost-effective and energy-secure solution for India.
