The Modi government is going from bad to worse in the matters of education. It was never its strong point to begin with and lately with incompetent ministers it has made itself a legitimate target of criticism. Consider this:

Right to education act: before 2014 BJP spoke at length about how discriminatory this was and the need for change. There is no talk at all about this now as if it never existed. BJP even changed IPC but not this!
Syllabus review: the Left had a strong presence historically in writing school syllabus and influencing student minds. The expectation was that would be rewritten to at least remove the overt leftist bias from the likes of Romila Thapar and ilk. Nothing has happened.

Self goals:

NEET fiasco - every year we have paper leaks. The ministry is incapable of holding exams in a fair manner and the close access enjoyed by coaching class mafia
UPSC exams - someone needs a reality check on the length of the questions that prevent students from finishing in allocated time
CBSE fiasco - the latest one and the most infuriating. Tons of cases in the media where the new digital exam marking is not working out. From filled sheets being marked as blank, valid answers being marked as wrong, pages left unscanned resulting in half an answer sheet to another students answer book being scanned , the list of errors is endless.

Each of these errors results in serious consequences for a person who has spent a year or more studying. What the BJP doesn’t understand or blithely ignores is that it doesn’t just infuriate the student, it also p*sses their parents and friends off. The students of today are likely born in 2010 onwards - they have no experience of a non BJP government. They see this nonsense and think how incompetent this government is. Add to that external factors where CIA, Dhruv Rathee, RaGa and likes of Cockroach party trying to incite them we have a perfect storm in the making.

How that Dharmendra Pradhan is still around one can’t fathom.

Accountability / Acceptance of Responsibility: Pradhan publicly acknowledged the failure, stating, "I take responsibility for the mental anguish faced by 22 lakh students."

If you ask me the whole JEE, NEET tests are unfair if the syllabus for board exam students is allowed to be set by the states. If the center wants to keep Education in the dual list then let NCERT syllabus and books be set the standard for all states. Let the states focus on education infrastructure alone. This is one way to destroy the test training mafia.

Second we claim ourselves to be IT Super Pawar. Then keep the test questions random. Student A should not have the same question paper as Student B but should preserve the same subject ratio. It is a college project for many comp sci students - Why cannot we implement this in mass scale?

Third you want to be fair to the students publish a book for free that provides answers and explanation of concepts for the last n number of tests. Let them study that instead of paying the test training institutes. Why are the answers to these questions a temple secret? Why are we again creating a priestly class of training institutes that poor deserving students have no access?

Finally you need to build the necessary education infrastructure where you are only testing the student aptitude for a certain career. They should never be competing for a place in a institution through these tricky test scores (granted there will be some competition). It shapes the young minds into thinking that cracking these tests makes them smart. You are killing innovation, real aptitude at the bud and creating troves of glorified STEM clerks. Then we complain about screw driver giri .

It is not impossible for Modi govt to do all of the above. We build transformational road infrastructure in a decade. Same can be done for education. First find a Gadgari for education infrastructure and fire the current one.

I am hope this happens. I have worked on aspects ofthis project nearly 20 years ago. Even today it remains closetomuy heart.

At that time lack of GoI follow through resulted on it being shelved. There are considerable engineering challenges.

As a young PM I had even tried to anticipate challenges and dedicated 2 years plus of my firm's R& D time. I really hope it materialises.

There are other challenges too. This will only bring Omani gas and not too much to India. Need an overland connection to the Qatar and UAE gas grid. And given that the Barrakah nuclear plant has started generating a sufficient amount of electricity in UAE the earlier Qatari has capacity being used to generate power in UAE maybe available.

If they can pull this off it will be massive.
