I am hope this happens. I have worked on aspects ofthis project nearly 20 years ago. Even today it remains closetomuy heart.

At that time lack of GoI follow through resulted on it being shelved. There are considerable engineering challenges.

As a young PM I had even tried to anticipate challenges and dedicated 2 years plus of my firm's R& D time. I really hope it materialises.

There are other challenges too. This will only bring Omani gas and not too much to India. Need an overland connection to the Qatar and UAE gas grid. And given that the Barrakah nuclear plant has started generating a sufficient amount of electricity in UAE the earlier Qatari has capacity being used to generate power in UAE maybe available.

If they can pull this off it will be massive.
Noob question. Can such a pipeline be subject to peacefuls blowing things up? In other words how can we guarantee security of this thing? In my mind once we have it, we will become dependent on it. How do we manage disruptions that will create a energy hostage situation.

In the long run, any external source of energy we depend on can become a knife to our throat. Witness what's happening with the Strait of Hormuz right now. With a pipeline this is mitigated somewhat, because (a) it's really difficult to blow up something that deep under the ocean (b) if there are multi-nation economic dependencies on the pipeline, especially on the part of the energy suppliers, it discourages attempts at malfeasance by peacefuls-- especially Pakis, who depend on those same supplier nations' largesse for their survival.

Monitoring this may be aided by unmanned submersible drones. I think UCSVs are a critical investment India is going to have to make anyway to safeguard and exert sea denial throughout its vast Indian Ocean sphere of interest, so building a system to patrol the pipeline can be a good place to start.

No guarantees Williams-ji. But having supply routes increases resilience. As of now only AmirKhan, Lizard and the Bear have the capability to hit the pipeline underwater. Unlikely anyone will hit the Oman terminal near Ras al Jinz given it's neutral and equidistant political stance. Attacking Indian end remains a possibility. The great thing is that starting in Oman, a nation with favourable relations with India, it is likely to be pretty safe provided we can strike a long term deal with Oman for gas.

For reference the Arabian Gas pipeline grid through which gas from other countries can be sent to India. Oman produces about 150 million cu.m. gas daily which may not be enough to supply India's needs (currently India imports about 125 cu.m. daily and growing). Pic Source: Research Gate

Ooh I like Suvendu a lot. He kicked out the illegals swiftly and now onto cleanliness. I wish the other BJP states institute such discipline quickly. In general cleanliness is much desired throughout India. Next the rivers should be cleaned up quickly to improve India's image in the world.

Forbes Magazine:
India’s Rupee In Crisis As Global AI Boom Leaves Modi’s Economy Behind
https://www.forbes.com/sites/williampes ... my-behind/
by William Pesek (more about him below)
Few countries have been knocked off balance as sharply. The year began with Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party celebrating a supposed “Goldilocks moment,” insisting growth and inflation were perfectly aligned.

In hindsight, that was wishful thinking. The rupee was Asia’s worst‑performing currency in 2025, sliding 5%. It’s down another 5% so far this year, a clear sign that all that Goldilocks talk hasn’t aged well.

Granted, Modi’s government couldn’t have foreseen the U.S. and Israel attacking Iran. Or the surge in oil prices putting India’s $4.1 trillion economy in harm’s way. But Modi’s BJP has had roughly 12 years in power to heal the pre-existing conditions India carried into this energy shock.

Namely, twin current-account and budget deficits that are now putting the rupee in harm’s way. The trade war that U.S. President Donald Trump launched in early 2025 — and in his first term as leader from 2017 to 2021 — should have been enough of a wakeup call for New Delhi. Now, the rupee is at an all-time low. Perhaps heading to 96 to the dollar.

Analysts at Nomura speak for many when they observe that India’s chronic imbalance problem reflects "a more volatile global environment, but it requires a deeper rethink on how India should manage the external sector in the coming years.” In other words, this problem isn’t going away. In fact, it could get worse if events in the Middle East worsen — and this latest vaguely-worded “truce” unravels. Odds are high it will.
...
...
...
There was much high-fiving, for example, over premature reports that India was surpassing Japan in gross domestic product terms. Not so much. And Team Modi seemed to miss more than most governments that artificial intelligence was about to have quite a moment.

This explains why India isn’t celebrating zooming past Japan. It’s suffering through headlines about how its stock market just got eclipsed by Taiwan’s. It’s quite a feat by an island with a population 1/60th of India’s. Modi’s economy is 4.2 times as large as the $967 billion economy President Lai Ching‑te oversees.

History will show whether a broader stock index that relies so heavily on a handful of companies is healthy or a recipe for a crash. Here, think Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., SK Hynix and Samsung in South Korea and Nvidia in the U.S. Yet India, despite benefiting from the data center craze, lacks a main AI player. If India is harboring its own equivalent of China’s DeepSeek, it’s high time for a press leak or two.

All this leaves New Delhi less in a place that’s “just right” than in one that requires the Reserve Bank of India to be on battle stations around the clock, defending the rupee.
An Indian take on AI model that I have seen s is that they are a commodity; it is what you build with them that adds the value. I don't know if that is a good strategic view or just tactical justification of where India is.

Who is William Pesek?
William Pesek is an award-winning, Tokyo-based journalist and author known for his columns on Asian economics (most notably for Bloomberg, Forbes, and Asia Times).
(AI summary)
Pesek’s view on India is characterized by a stark contrast between acknowledging the country's immense potential and expressing deep skepticism about its current economic execution.

Critique of Headline vs. Reality: Pesek frequently warns investors not to get blinded by India's high headline GDP growth rates (such as periods of 8% growth). He points to underlying metrics—like the slide of the Indian Rupee—as the true indicator of investor doubt and structural imbalance.

Failure to Deliver on "Make in India": He notes that despite high-profile campaigns designed to increase manufacturing to 25% of GDP, the sector has stalled or even shrunk below its starting benchmarks. He argues that Prime Minister Modi’s strategy focuses too heavily on gimmicky, short-term milestones and high-profile foreign investments rather than the "heavy lifting" of structural reform.

Unequal Distribution: Pesek argues that India's current growth model fails to adequately scale down to benefit the middle and lower classes, leaving the economy vulnerable to external shocks like global tariffs.

Praise for Institutional Discipline: When India does get praise from Pesek, it is usually directed at technocrats who force accountability. For example, he heavily lauded former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan for maintaining high interest rates and resisting the urge to inflate asset bubbles, holding the government's feet to the fire to build real infrastructure instead.

A massive, synchronized effort is on to disrupt the data localization requirements by India. The argument is going to be: “India doesn’t have data centers, so don’t push for this”.

Do not believe for even a minute that such “reporting” is without motivations.

Global NGOs and media are being moved around like pawns on the chessboard. They may not feel or know that they are part of the bigger agenda at play here - some of them will receive Pulitzer Prizes and others will get Magsaysay Awards for their “efforts”.

At the end of the day, they are just pawns in a bigger techno-economic war.

Looking at that Pesek article. Yes we could do more BUT… there is an entire generation of these greying journalists who have witnessed the East Asian miracle and enjoyed their massage tables that will never stop simping for them. They will do it for free.

Hence Bharat needs to -
1. Do some spectacular infra/mil/space/tech feats to capture narrative and imagination. $$ should not be spared in this pursuit.
2. Clean up cities, improve tourism as a STRATEGIC sector and capture the imagination of younger foreign tourists. YT is doing its bit, I see some of them climbing forts in Maharashtra and checking out less known tourist spots. Almost every Western tourist has been to SEA and East and they will be looking to explore beyond.
3. Where are our Confucius centres ? Not the ones run by babus…. We lack standards everywhere but they won’t happen unless it is created in the country first.
4. Why don’t we have a Mowgli themed safari or Panchatantra themed entertainment park. Why do families go to Dubai and why can’t we provide family based entertainment in our country ? We have some water parks etc but can we weave an Indian mythology theme that is not overtly religious
5. Hence that cabinet needs reshuffling big time and some bold young leaders should be inducted

The loudest alarm bells for Rahul Gandhi aren't coming from BJP supporters any more. They're coming from his own intellectual ecosystem.

For years, @Ram_Guha was among @RahulGandhi's most loyal intellectual defenders.

Now even he seems to have run out of excuses.

When long-time darbaris start questioning the gandhi family's leadership, Congress's inability to reform, and its refusal to nurture alternative leaders, it says more than any criticism from political opponents ever could.

Guha's assessment is brutal: Rahul Gandhi "lacks discipline, gravitas, and a curriculum vitae" to be a serious challenger to Narendra Modi, and even when he takes up an important issue, he rarely pursues it in a sustained manner.

When long-time darbaris start admitting what critics have been saying for years, the problem is no longer perception.

It's Rahul Gandhi...

Importantly, the PV modules, wind turbines, and energy storage systems are mostly made in Bharat. E.g, the PV modules are supplied by Adani Solar which is vertically integrated from silicon production to module fabrication with indigenous components. Chinese components are minimal.

A good move. No more has to work with his hands tied. He is free to be part of NDA as well or support NDA if needed. Also will not have any issues in perception preventing amoung the oldies and turn people's liking into votes as well. Winning seats is now much more easier. Can also get good workers from both BJP, AIADMK and DMK or any party. Anna becoming the CM will turn TN into a powerhouse.
BREAKING: Annamalai Begins Groundwork To Launch New Party By End Of Week, Sources Say
Annamalai preparing to break from BJP, to hold news conference within 10 days. Party sources say he has begun outreach to BJP grassroots workers and is laying groundwork to form a new political outfit in Tamil Nadu. Insiders say Annamalai may visit Delhi soon and is likely to seek meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah before making a final decision.

Initially, he plans to launch a political movement under his nonprofit “We The Leaders,” aiming to unite like-minded individuals and build a volunteer network to groom future leaders from the grassroots. The movement could evolve into a formal party later; sources add his immediate focus is to counter Vijay’s TVK and strengthen his political base after the BJP’s heavy loss in the 2026 state elections.
