Re: Delhi Case Follow-up thread

In India, I am currently seeing that common people have more wisdom than the self-appointed intellectuals (retired judges, NGO types, TV anchors, professors, etc.) In other countries, it is the other way round. That is why I have turned completely in favor of bringing back Jury system of some sort,...

Re: Delhi Rape Victim Dies-Express your outrage.

I want people to raise up and demand for fundamental changes. And those fundamental changes should be: 1) Direct accountability of the police and judiciary towards mango people, which can be implemented only through peaceful wapasi/recall procedures for officials whether promoted, appointed, or ele...

Re: Solutions to Making India a Safer Place

Procedural changes will have to be made to avoid making people approach law enforcement this difficult. No amount of procedural changes will ever work unless the police chief knows he can be kicked (and most peacefully) out of his job directly by the public the day a significant portion of them dec...

Re: Solutions to Making India a Safer Place

We have seen culture, religion, politics, India, being Indian , foriegn countries, modernism, shame, being posted as analysis for this law and order issue. It is as if India never existed before and has to be taught how to live in this world. All these are mere distractions, if I may submit most hu...

Sorry for asking this, but since google didn't help - are there two Jagannath Temples in Orissa?

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/no-entry-in- ... 011-3.html

I thought Jagannath temple in Orissa only meant Jagannath Puri temple in Orissa.

Re: Treatment of Indians Abroad

from the firangi's perspective, they are a race (white) .. indians are not their race.. (sdre?).. so it is racism.. Actually, many consider Indians as caucasians as far as 'race' is concerned. The (smart musharrafed, as someone put it) comment was meant to highlight the defence put up by some to de...

Indians can't claim to be victims of racism because Indian is not a race. I've seen quite a few firangis say that.

@ BijuShet, RM has already answered that in the Neta-Babu thread.

RM ji, you rock ! Don't worry about the naysayers --pretty much the same kind of people who would have laughed their stomachs out at the very thought of India being a democracy, in case we haden't been one today.

Re: The Curious Case of Daood Gilani alias David Headley & co

Another opinion.... Indian intelligence agencies were on the “tail” of an American connected with 26/11. This they followed up along with the Bangldeshi trail and were on the verge of getting to Headley which is when the US picked him up. And put him in custody so that he is kept safe from Indian in...

1) You are still trying IMO to pass off humans as a commodity. This has been a fundamental aspect of human behavior that is, in fact mentioned as a very matter of fact thing to do in the Koran - i.e using humans as a commodity (as slaves). The same Koran is purported to be the fount of egalitarianis...

Shiv sir, you have coined the term Indic core, you define it. As far as I am concerned, there is no such Indic core (the kind you are trying to define). Indians are as dishonest, honest, miserly, generous, foolish, wise, selfish, altruistic as anybody else on this earth. I think India just needs bet...

BTW Shiv saar, how do you reconcile the repulsive poverty glorifying Indic core values with the widely practiced Lakshmi Puja during Diwali (worship of Goddess of wealth and prosperity).

What about the culture of honoring Saraswati (goddess of knowledge). Is that core or periphery?

What you have described above is the result of perfect market competition . Do you think workers in the west are treated relatively better because their employers are more generous? Blaming an imaginary 'Indic core' for the behavior is just a wasteful exercise, typical of an Indic intellectual onlee.
